KOMKOKO:How comes you know fortran then?? i thought FORTRAN is used for mathematical and scientific programming? |
inspireme:i value my HND cert too. |
In Britian HND is less than BSc in value and quality. To get HND in UK you spend 2 years, and sometimes it is done in a university that awards Bsc in the course you are pursuing your HND. All you need to do to get HND there is to spend 2 years (without carrying out any project/research work) out of the 3 years Bsc program and get out with HND certificate without honors. From the above HND is not the same thing as BSc, neither are they equivalent. But in Nigeria, you spend your first 2 years pursuing a National Diploma (research project compulsory); after which you go for one year compulsory working experience scheme, then back to school and spend another 2 years, do a research project and graduate,(5 years all together like the BEng and BTech programs) but instead of them giving you a Bsc or BTech or BEng you are given HND with out honors. You can see why there is a discrimination between HND and Bsc. But go through the course curricula for both HND and Bsc in nigeria, you won't be suprise to see that the HND is richer in content and course work than the Bsc. May God save the proposed Polytechnic BTech certificate from discrimination, amen. |
I'm sorry for criticizing him that way. |
gabscity:i disagree with you here. once a school has the status of a university whether it was a secondary school or primary school before it does nt matter. what matters is that the school is called a university. so my friend, a Bsc from Ado university(if that is what they would have called it) will also be seen as a Bsc like those from other universities; atleast Banks will recognise it and employ you as a full staff and not contract staff. Polytechnic BTech will obviously face discrimination as some people will be looking at it as a re-branding of polytechnic HND; and as such will still be looked down at because the name of the awarding school is a polytechnic and not a university. |
HND certificate is not the problem. The problem is the name of the school that awards the certificate; they call the school POLYTECHNIC. Polytechnics are not recognised or seen as a school for higher learning by some people and as such they discriminate or refuse to recognise the HND certificate issued by it. If HND was to be the name of the certificate being issued to university graduates no body will look down at it, because it is coming from a UNIVERSITY. Like wise let the name of the certificate issued by polytechnics be Bsc; they will still discriminate against the Bsc because it is coming from a POLYTECHNIC. |
@HND-holder We can no longer wait again. Thank God u people have waited on our behalf before. The thing is paining me day by day. |
Hnd-holder:This is not the issue of getting the white paper, it is in black & white that customs advertised for employment recently and discriminated HND graduates by saying that they will be employed as inspectors (level 07) instead of Assistant Supt of customs (ASC) (level 08). @HND-holder Please tell me, is there any discrimination that is worse than this?? Even Prisons and immigration are currently recruiting and they are doing same to HND graduates, taking them as inspectors (level 07) instead of Assistant Superintendants (level 08). I tell you there is still discrimination against HND holders and it is the Federal civil service that is worst affected. |
@HND-holder They are still discriminating against HND graduates; if not how can dey be employing them as level 07 instead of 08. |
Hnd-holder:It is possible you don't know what is happenig in the ministries now. HND, whether in engineering or arts start are taken as level 07 officers in immigration, civil defence, prisons and customs. The latest and most annoying is that of customs; they specified the courses they need and Engineering was part of it, but there was a clear distinction: (i) University Degree holders (Engineering, science, soc sci. etc.) - Superintendant Cadre (ii) HND holders (Engineering, science, soc sci. etc.) - inspector cadre Check Daily Trust Newspaper and see how a lot of Nigerians are asking Those concern why the discrimination even when they said HND and Bsc are at par. |
@HND-holder No gains until they remove the discrimination completely and not partially against HND holders. Why should HND holders be employed as level 07 in the federal civil service instead of level 08?? is level 07 not meant for NCE holders?? is level 08 not for HND and Degree holders?? How comes dey are employing HND holders as level 07 officers now?? Let them address this issue o. |
@HND-holder Let them list the gains well well. But there is no gain when HND holders are still employed and given the same level with NCE holders (i.e. level 07) instead of level 08 in the civil service. Let them address that issue o, else there is no gain anywhere. |
@HND-holder why are they employing HND graduates as level 07 officers and Bsc holders as level 08 officers in Customs, immigration, prisons and civil defence?? This is injustice of the highest order and we are very sad about it. Please help us pass our complain to David Mark and Umar Yar'adua. |
@HND-holder Can't FG wade into the way NSE and COREN have been treating polytechnic Engineering graduates? |
@HND-holder FG have not yet done well, to me i give dem 65%. Until they address the issue of employing HND holders on level 07 instead of 08 they will not get my 100% |
@HND-holder Please what is the entry level for HND holders in the federal civil service? is it level 08 or 07?? please let us know. |
@HND-holder What would happen to holders of HND who were recently employed as Level 07 officers (inspectors) instead of Level 08 (one star) in immigration, prisons and civil defence?? Are they going to regularise and give them their correct Level (i.e. Level 08) immediately?? |
Good development, but what will happen to those who were employed as level 07 officers with HND in immigration service, prisons and civil defence to mention a few. Will they be given their correct level (i.e. Level 08)?? |
@HND-holder That's good news. so what will happen to HND holders who where employed in the civil service and placed on level 07 instead of 08. Will they be given their rightful level (i.e. level 08)?? Civil Defence, Prisons and Immigration service employed HND holders and gave them level 07 instead of level 08 while Bsc holders were given level 08. Would they be given their rightful (level 08) grade now?? |
It's not suppose to be asked for, but in Nigeria it is always asked for. For the guy to be on the safer side let him just register and sit for GCE again and make a Credit in English if that is what they want. Actually a lot of people got waivers in either maths or english while going into the university or polytechnic those days (a Pass in English for sciences/technology & engineering courses while a Pass in Mathematics for Arts/humanities & social sciences was acceptable then), i dont know of now; things might have changed now. |
There is nothing wrong in writing PCE and gaining admission to read accountancy in the polytechnic. You can go into poly and do ND Accountancy, after your ND run away, if possible flee away from poly and continue your education in any university even if it's a Local Govt. university where u can graduate with a Bsc (Hons). Holding a polytechnic certificate is very stressfull; i'm talking from experience. The new BTech may help reduce the discrimination sha, but lets wait and see. |
@HND-holder weldon o. |
texazzpete:I'm happy that both of you have become friends now. Yes o; you too, you sabi the theoretical aspect pass dem abi no be so? |
DE form is on sale; why not buy DE and go into 200 levels in the university? |
texazzpete:You are very funny but i believe you sha. Polytechnic BTech would still be seen as a rebranding of the HND certificate. |
Let dem go now; sebi dey want to follow ASUU. |
what a question. Alright, register for both and sit for the exams you will be able to know. |
@texazzpete You too take it easy. Thanx for your great respect for holders of Nigerian HND certificate. But you have not come out to tell us why on earth the HND certificate in Nigeria cannot be compared with the Bsc or BTech certificate in Nigeria. I thought the HND certificate was a Technological qualification equivalent to a Bsc or BTech certificate that was why i agreed to do the HND program. Can u tell us what the difference is between the curricula of polytechnics and universities? Can u also tell us those that do more work in academics both practical and theory? Lastly do you think BTech certificates from polytechnics (as already proposed in Nigeria)will recieve honours and recognition like the BSc and BTech from universities? |
@HND-holder Please take it easy with that Degree holder. |
Preference will still be given to university BA, BEd, BSc and BTech Degrees over polytechnic BTech Degree that's what i know; except if it's not Nigeria. Employment adverts will soon start reading " A university Degree required", which will automatically disqualify polytechnic BTech Degree holders just as it's been done to polytechnic HND holders. A lot of things need to be put in place before this discrimination can stop. |
My own is that poly BTech may face discrimination like HND |
abdurrazaq:That's it o my brother. If Universities were to award HND certificates to their graduates no body will discriminate them. I think this discrimination has more to do with where the certificate was obtained from (the name of the institution) than the certificate itself. BTech obtained from polytechnics i'm afraid may face discrimination like the HND certificate. May God help Nigeria. |
