@HND-holder
It's very annoying.
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by ishmael(m): 6:46pm On Nov 10, 2008
if there is any difference then it should be in the course work of the HND. The HND has a technical bias in all or most courses unlike the Bsc.
CareerRe: Why This Discrimination Between B.Sc & HND? by ishmael(m): 6:24pm On Nov 10, 2008
HND holders are still facing intense discriminaton in the public and private sectors.

What really is the difference between HND and BSc?

In my opinion, graduates(both B.Sc and HND) should be more concerned about self development rather than worrying on HND/B.SC descrimination, i have not experienced descrimination as i don't descriminate against myself, i know that employers cannot resist talents even if the person is from a college of education. There are a lot of Nigerians excelling in their various careers without stepping the four walls of a University or Polytechnic, why then should we bother our heads HND/B.SC descrimination ?
You lie. why won't we be concerned about the discrimination, when unqualified university grauates are preferred to qualified poly graduates in most organisations?

PoliticsRe: Is Lagos State A Muslim State? by ishmael(m): 8:05pm On Oct 15, 2008
@dnex
Thanx jare, I have said it before that most Lagos state indigenes are muslims. Most Lagos state indigenes that are christians are converts from islam to christianity; that is why you will still see a Monrufu and a Rashidat that are Christians. (Monrufu and Rashidat are muslim names).
PoliticsRe: Is Lagos State A Muslim State? by ishmael(m): 7:29am On Oct 14, 2008
@dayokanu
You said that the political power of Lagos state is in the hands of the muslims while business power lies in the hands of the christians. Good.

But may i never hear you say that Kaduna state is a muslim state as some of you use to say; because Kaduna state has never been ruled by a christian before. Kaduna state also has a balanced number of both religions, but it has always been from muslim to another muslim on the governors seat.

very annoying and painful. Both the HND and Bsc have failed to move the nation forward.
PoliticsRe: Is Lagos State A Muslim State? by ishmael(m): 6:15pm On Oct 13, 2008
Majority of Lagos state indigenes are muslims (not fanatical ones sha). Those that are christians only converted to christianity later.

if not true, why is it that most of the Lagos state past governors are muslims.

i have read this post and i agree to a reasonable extent.
am an HND holder and work with a financial instition in Nigeria i had my promotion regularly and i know it is the grace of God that has put me here but i would want to say HND holders still have a Chance i have several friends who have HND too working in other financial institions ( even though they do not have additional qualifications yet)
so with God on your side, the sky is the limit.
i agree we HND holders need to improve on our qualifications so as not to be kicked aside but the ultimate is hard work and force on your goal
don't give up and God wont give up on you

good luck!!
Does that mean that all Bsc holders work harder than HND holders to be given more recognition and be placed ahead of HND holders ??

unless the government change the structure the way these two degree are administered, the discrimination will continue. my suggestion is that HND should be scrapped
No, not HND alone, but Polytechnics should be scrapped as a whole; cos any certificate (whether HND, Bsc, BTech, Msc or MTech) that bears the name of any polytechnic will still face discrimination.

Guys, u ar all right. BSC ---HND.
I ve my HND some years ago and because of the discrimination i'm made to work in one of the Banks using my N.D.
I worked for 2 years but i had to quit the job and go back to school for my BSC.
So, fellow HND brother " if u can't bet them, please. join them."
what you did was the right thing. HND in Nigeria is looked down at; banks use them as contract staff and not full staff. in some cases you are employed with ND even when it's obvious that you have HND.

i have decided to go for Bsc in computing and electronics, rather than HND because it is like a foundation level to a degree. Don't worry, I will be coming back to work in Nigeria after my degree
Better for you. Foreign Degree certificates are honoured here in Nigeria. When you come back to Nigeria you will see.

here is a simple task, please list things that was achieved by Lt.Col fajuyi while he was head of the western regionhuh is the ADC that died with muritala mohammed a national herohuh
You are not only an uninformed yoruba but also an uninformed nigerian.

Lt col. Francis Fajuyi barely spent 6 months in that office before he was killed and you are talking about his achievements. OBJ that had the opportunity of ruling nigeria twice, first (1976-1979) and secondly for 8 wasted years (1999-2007), what are his achievements??

Murtala Mohammed's ADC died along with his boss unprepared. He was not ready to die; infact if he had his way he would have escaped. Fajuyi had every opportunity to remain alive but he chose to die with his boss Aguiyi Ironsi; that makes him a hero.
CareerRe: HND Certificate: An Embarrassment? by ishmael(m): 10:29am On Sep 30, 2008
Some HND holders are even better than Bsc holder, but the society has made them to believe that they are inferior to Bsc holders. Until the day the name polytechnic is replaced with the name university, graduates from polytechnics irrespective of the Degree the are awarded will still face discrimination in Nigeria.
You cannot tell me that employers in Nigeria will employ a BTech graduate from polytechnic and leave out a BSc or BTech graduate from a university.

I learnt FG wants polytechnic to start running BTech programs, but in science and Technology courses only. Social sciences, management and Arts courses will be stopped according to them.

But i have a question to ask; why cant polytechnics award BTech degreees in a course like Accounting? after all some universities of Technology award Btech Degrees in Accounting?

I am glad i found this website, this is the same question i have been asking myself about Btec and Bsc,

i am currently based in the uk but having difficulties with uni :-( I am currently a BTEC ND holder and looking to go for HND. would you say, uni is the way forward or HND? n in terms of career prospect, who would get a job first?!

BTEC holders or Uni grads??
Pls i will advice you to stay away from any certificate that is not a Degree. Do not go for HND, rather go for Bsc.

Bsc holders get jobs first in Nigeria, but i don't know of other countries.

GBOKO IN BENUE!

you might probably not be aware that when dangote tried erecting a mosque opposite BCC the natives went on rampage destroying vehicles with kano, jigawa and co numbers and threatening to make life unbearable for dangote till he recinded on the decision (and i don't need to tell you about theBCC sale saga)

also when the former governor (george akume) gave out money to the small (insignificant) number of muslims to build a mosque, the natives rioted and drove them away instead

as for the research you are talking about,i don't need to research a place i am from! tiv and hausa is like two dicks with no pu**y
Pally are you saying there are no muslims in Benue state or in Tiv land? Is Abubakar Tsav (a police comissioner or AIG, i can't remember his rank again) not a Tiv and a muslim? There are a lot of Tivs in Katsina-Ala that practice islam. The idomas have thier own people too that practice islam. But does being a muslim make one Hausa? Are yorubas Hausas too, because majority of them are muslims? Are people from Auchi in Edo state Hausas?
EducationRe: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by ishmael(m): 3:29pm On Sep 24, 2008
very soon it will be BSc vs BTech, because awarding BTech to polytechnic graduates will still not solve the problem of discrimination against polytechnic graduates. Our government are the reason behind this discrimination, and until they stop discriminating btw poly and uni as well as HND and Bsc the discrimination will always be there. Employers might change strategy by asking for "Degree from a recognised university". Only God will help Poly graduates in Nigeria.

Hnd-holder:
Yes. Like PGD Education is professional.
Academic PGD was for those with 3rd class pass in the University. You must score 60% before you can be allowed for Masters and you must have a Prof who will supervise the Project.

whereas Professional PGD careless about the research content. Even some Msc are purely professional.
interested and qualified HND holders should be allowed to proceed to do Msc after their PGD. How can a polytechnic graduate with HND grow if he finds himself in the academic sector teaching if he is not allowed to do Msc after PGD?

Thanx. But how do u know which PGD is professional and which is academic? because most PGD are called PGD without anything attached to them. as for the Masters we know that there is a difference between Msc and MBA/MBF etc.

Do we have professional PGD and Masters programs in science and engineering courses just as we have in management and social sciences in Nigeria?
EducationRe: Polytechnic Wahala by ishmael(m): 1:32pm On Sep 19, 2008
Hnd-holder:
Yes they are right. Msc is master of science not master of technology. Anybody can run PGD not all can get to masters. We have both professional and academic PGD.
Why did you say they are right? if you were denied the opportunity to do Masters after your PGD would you have gotten to PhD level? Whether professional or academic PGD, there should be a way out for HND holders to get to Msc level; i believe its just wickedness, thhey don't ever want polytechnic graduates to get to that level and meet up with them (uni graduates).

hypocrates plenty for nairaland o!!!!!!
sometime ago alot of us were critisizing the north and the whole of Naija for feeding on Naija Delta fuel, now some people are saying this exercise is misplaced priority, i wonder what is misplaced about this priority? maybe some of us are scared that there will be sugar and food scarcity enh, you see it all balls to the fact that we all need each other to be a strong country. For me i am soo suprised that this project actually came from the north first, these same northerners have been accused of being mumus and cattle rearers isnt this ironic. there truely is a balance in life , hiss,
i wonder why some of us believe that nothing good can come from northerners and the north. What were we doing when these northerners were doing research on this? we were busy yarning and insulting northerners on nairaland, telling them how backwards and poor they were. Now with their backwardness they've been able to come up with a good proposal.
Let them go ahead and start it jare, i believe they will put into use all the land along kaduna - kafanchan and kaduna - abuja roads into good use now (sugar cane cultivation).

@ ISHMAEL nice response jare, some people are just sooo anxious to open theire mouth (hit the keyboard) that they forget to think before doing so.
Don't mind them; simply because kaduna is in the north they believe it has the same status as kano and sokoto or zamfara state. Kaduna state just like Lagos state has a balanced number of xtains and muslims.

Kaduna is one of the eleven northern states that chose to implement sharia law
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria

An according to sharia law, drinking, dealing in or being found drunk attracts punishment.
http://www.zamfaraonline.com/sharia/chapter08.html

Yes it's true Kaduna has brewries (which makes no sense if a state is adopting sharia law) but you should learn to attempt getting your point across without insults.
it makes sense my guy. no state adopting sharia as the official law of the state will ever have a brewery for brewing alcohol within its boundaries.

sharia has always been practiced in the north and in kaduna state before 1999, but that does not mean that kaduna state is a sharia state; rather it has sharia law/courts for people who believe in sharia and thats all.

This is from my understanding. I believe the reason why Brazil is able to dominate the sugar industry and ethanol industry at the same time is because they produce sugar from their cultivated sugar cane and produce ethanol from the sugar cane molasses. The molasses is pretty much byproduct from sugarcane, some people call it trash. Having said this… I don’t know what kind of technology they are using in Kaduna, but I will expect them to be producing their ethanol from Sugar cane Molasses and not the sugar cane itself.
Well said jo. i wonder wat the problem is with those that are not happy with the development. thank God they are not going to convert rice, corn and guinea corn into ethanol. I like the kaduna initiative, it makes sense.

some universities don't admit polytechnic HND graduates into their Msc programs even after they have obtained a PGD; what is NBTE doing about that?
