Edoboy1: ;DThis is hard to believe any way. Expecially from the south, were kids are more exposed. If they said North or some Western states like Ibadan,I will believe. Well, there is more to it.it's a general nigerian problem. It happens up north and down south. |
Where did this happen again? I thought this only happens in the north! That means it's a nigerian problem and not just the north. |
That's the plain truth. Pls tell our educational policy makers, Head of service, national assembly members, and all nigerians. |
nedu213: Partnership Opportunities in Dataville Research Solutions Ltd.i'm interested in ur partnership. |
tosomaju: I happen to be one of the victims caught in the unfortunate web of HND. I started from pre-ND (double slap, u may call it), I climbed the ladder of all the classes in the polytechnic system within a space of 6years. I graduated with a whooping distinction, went for NYSC. And letter went to the uni to begin from 300L. 10years in all.True talk. |
In some countries, some professional qualifications and HND are considered to be equivalent to a uni degree. What qualification is the equivalent of a degree in nigeria? |
cap28: Good riddanceto what? Complete d sentence; abi u dey fear? Mother apathied has gone to rest finally. Hope she finds a place to rest in God's kingdom. |
Hawizzy: Tnx Ishmael and Teddy,i thought only one of d options is supposed to be the correct answer? Why having more than one correct options? Answer me on this first, then i can know where to assist u. Regards! |
Idacrux: @ishmael pls help! I'm a 100L statistics student in unn,and i heard u'r a graduate of statistics. pls give me hints that helped u scailed through dis programme in ur days? A.s.a.p!!yes, i'm a statistician with more than 12 years experience. All i can advice u to do is to take ur maths, stats & computer courses very serious, as being good in the 3 is what makes u a statistician. Be focused and be determined. The course is not too difficult but it requires u to give it attention. Get engineering maths, advanced engineering maths, statistics/ stats methods, probability theory, operations research, and IT text books, they will help u. Regards! |
Our education ministers are busy giving attention to nomadic and almajiri education. They care less about polytechnics and technical education. |
Hawizzy: Are there any spss gurus in d house, show urself plzzzwhat's the issue bro? |
Jobos: In addition , HND graduate in engineering lines are being appointed as Instructor to handle pratical session .HND holders also lecture in the polytechnic, but they lecture only ND levels. It is not perculiar to engineering alone, we have them in all the departments in the polytechnic. Because of the discrimination against HND they are called instructors, while people with Bsc are called lecturers. Those who handle pratical sessions are called Technologists. |
theshadyexpress: The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, has said that soldiers have killed three top commanders of the Boko Haram Islamic sect. There is no Wamakko LGA in Kaduna state. Pls don't mislead people. |
That's good bro! Kindly help us forward this analysis and evaluation to the nigerian president, education minister, house of assembly members, head of service, and other ignorant fellows in the govt who think that the poly curriculum is inferior to that of the uni and hence their support for the discrimination against poly graduates. Weldone! |
adewasco2k: I am so damn in a tight corner right now patterning my career, i need to learn spss and excel very well in a matter of 2 months, i have basic knowledge already but i want to be very perfect with it.where are u based? If u're in lagos i can link u up with a consultant dat will teach u all u need to know about spss. |
cruxifixo: let me add an interesting dimension. do you know that if you go the route of HND, MSC, PhD u can never be aaccepted to lecture in a Nigeria university because of that HND.Not really true! I have a friend who lectures in a 1st gen uni here in nigeria without having a Bsc. He has ND, HND, PGD, Msc, and PhD. He got d job with his Msc to enable him do a PhD programme. He bagged the PhD while lecturing in the same uni. |
FXKing2012: That meerah25 chic is almost a lost cause because she thinks she knows when she knows nothing.Leave her alone and concentrate on the topic of discussion. We need ur input on this good topic. |

U guys should stop all these insults and bashings. The truth is that the nigerian educational system is faulty. We have bad and low quality poly graduates just the same way we have half-baked and low quality uni graduates. My candid advice still remains, free poly for now and embrace university education. |
My best advice is for us to discourage people from going to polytechnics until govt does something about the discrimination. It is better to go to college of education, spend 3 yrs and get NCE, atleast u have hope of getting employed as level 07 officer, while knowing fully that u're not yet a graduate. Polytechnic rectors, registrars, lecturers (ASUP), students, etc. should stage a peaceful demo to national assembly and presidency to let the govt know how the poly community feel about the unjust discrimination against them. Until this issue is settled i dont advice anyone to go to poly or to do HND. |
elklehamite: I advise if there is any one in Government that is participating in this Forum to drop sentiment and take this matter up with the arms(National Assembly and Executive) of government that are in position to find lasting solution to this dichotomy/discrimination between the two graduates/institutions,it is very unnecessary and unhealthy to the Nigerian economy. The polytechnic have its own peculiarity and as such, the graduates should be allowed reach the peak of their career void of discrimination of any kind. They are aware of it. Imagine, in all the paramilitary services they have 2 cadres - superintendant cadre and inspectorate cadre. They have different rank structures and different functions to perform. The sup cadre is for uni graduates, and they can rise up to level 17. The inspectorate cadre is for HND and NCE holders. They cannot go beyond chief inspector which is level 12. The national assembly members, Head of service, and ministers are all aware of it. In the military there is no such dichotomy for short service officers who come in with HND or Bsc. What is wrong with our paramilitary services and civil service? |
The truth is that poly graduates are trained to work in industries and not civil service. They believe that hnd holders don't really have a significant role to play in the civil service, and hence the discrimination. Until the national assembly decides to look into this it will continue like that. If u plan to work in the industry where ur practical skills will be appreciated, or if u plan to be self employed, go to polytechnic and get the skills. But if u want to work for the govt and other corporate organisations where u will progress well to the top, pls go to a uni and get a degree. |
tunnamaniah: We all know that jobs are scarce in nigeria and that was why i created this thread, i want us to look into ways of making ourselves more marketable in the labour market, we should focus on the solution and not the problem, okenne as made mention of ICAN or ANAN WHICH IS A GOOD POINTthen there is no point reading statistics in the first place. Go for accounting pls! |
texazzpete: The bitterness is strong in this onetruth is bitter. Passed thru both schools. Since nigerians prefer uni and degree so be it. My advice is get a degree and rest from the wahala! The national assembly members careless about this uni- poly dichotomy, that's why it's still there. |
ebunma: You have said it all...not until Prof and PhD holders are employed to teach in Poly things will remain the same. Nice write up Femi. No, the profs and PhD holders are not technically good to some extent, so what will they be teaching in the poly? Theory? In a school where so much technical knowledge and skills are needed at ND & HND levels to distinguish the poly graduates from the uni graduates? The poly will need profs and PhD holders when they start running their own masters and PhD programmes, which would be more of theory and research. For now they need skills and technical knowledge which can be given to them by msc, bsc and hnd holders. |
Ashmark: Am happy I graduatd frm a University.Throughout my days in the University,it was Drs nd Prof that lecture me...it's not true. Some of ur lecturers had masters degree and were probably doing their PhD. I studied in a 1st generation university too. |
okenny2ky: another Statistics graduate is here in da house, Ken graduated frm Fedpoly Ede. as per for the topic a statistian can find him/herself any wher cos of the nature of the course, so prof courses like ICAN, ANAN are alwz advisable to embark onjobs are scarce in nigeria. Statisticians are not valued in nigeria also. |
Pls guys let's come together and discuss about this. We have a lot of statisticians in nigeria today but most of them have got no jobs. Those that got jobs work with the civil service mostly where they don't even take statistics serious, and a few work in banks where they are mostly concerned about profit and will never want to spend much money and time on statistical analysis. Nigeria is really killing people's morale. |
Statisticians are well utilized in developed countries and some developing countries in the area of research in business, finance, marketing, agric, medicine, drug development and production, industries, product design and development, etc. In the UK and US, Statistics is one of the sexiest professions today. Why are statisticians not well utilized in nigeria? Why are our businessmen, industries, and govt not making good use of them? |
Deeone_bangin!:yes, but in most cases you do a pgd first. |
Cmoyor: Ghost workers and we wey no be ghost neva see workif govt want to be honest let them now employ real human beings to replace the ghosts so that the N100 billion does nt go into one man's pocket. |
