When will the corrupt national assembly pass this bill? Would they be able to pass such a bill? That would be disaster for them all. |

kaeto: Some1 pls check this up, a combination of waec n neco examination for 2011/2012 in gombe state in the northern part of nigeria, just 17 people were able to make 5 credits including maths n english . And instead of accepting academic defeat, nagoma n his friends r beating their chest in this public show of shame n charade. Allah help u all o.People cheat in most of the states where students make 9 A's. Are u not surprised that these same people with A's get withdrawn in their first year in the university while those few with 5 C's are the ones that eventually graduate with good grades? This thing is a national issue and not just the north alone, though it's more pronounced in the far north. |
@Gbigbon: U're not telling the truth. Now, tell us how many of the universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in the north that are based on islamic doctrine? |
Try NOUN. |
yemorinho: It's such a pain in the neck. I'm a serving corp member in one of the northern states and teaching in this Govt Sen Sec Sch has not been a bumper ride. I was assigned to teach mathematics and my first class was in SS3. I was solving statistics and got to a point where I exclaimed '6x6'. The whole class was silent like a grave. (Prior to this time I had been carrying everyone along, with an intermittent 'understood?' and they would chorus a 'yes sir'). I then started pointing at students randomly. Some said 12, some, 10. Most others were jst mute (these were students who would b sitting 4 SSCE 3months from that time ). Only one student, the head prefect bailed the class. Was further shocked the following day when some students I had given †he task of studying the multiplication table couldn't recite 2x table past '2x5'. It goes on an on... SS2 students also can't differentiate between '2 raise to power 3' and 2x3. To say the end of term assessment was woeful would b needless. My counterparts in other northen states also exprerience same and it cuts across all subjects. It's so discouraging, as this means students can't reproduce what u teach 'em owing to lack of the basic knowledge they ought 2 have acquired before that level. This got ♍e worried about the future of these lads.which of the northern states? |
okosodo: .Why not? We find such in every region of nigeria. U may find more in the far north though. |
andrewza: only those that have never seen the horror of wish for warWe don't pray for war, but we pray for the military to come in briefly and restore peace once more again in nigeria. Mortality rate is very high in this demon-crazy. |

acidtalk: It is so sad how our educational system has deteriorated. A friend invited me to come and help him with the test given to applicants for various positions in his company.Since uni Bsc graduates have failed his test, tell ur friend to try poly HND graduates, i'm 99% confident they they will pass the test. |
acidtalk: It is so sad how our educational system has deteriorated. A friend invited me to come and help him with the test given to applicants for various positions in his company.Since uni Bsc graduates have failed his test, tell ur friend to try poly HND graduates, they are better. |
Gaybriel: by the grace of God, i finished my ND in laspo. And i can authoritatively tell you that they employ HND graduates especially those who came out best in their various schools. I know of one in my department then. By the grace of God, after my ND i gained admission to a Federal University of Technology. I can say with all sincerity that polytechnic is better than university in Nigeria. Poly gives you practical but Uni teach you how to cram. I'm talking from experience. No body is saying that they don't employ them in the polytechnics. All we are saying is that they are discriminated within the poly system. HND holders are not employed as Lecturers, they have their own cadre differently. They are employed as Instructors; and cannot hold certain appointments like HOD, Dean, Registrar, Rector, etc. even after getting advanced degrees. I have friends who had HND that are in the system too. |
GMacbeth: well spoken my brother jst imagine thatWhen u discriminate against ur own products why won't others do same? U're giving them reasons to believe that ur own products are pseudo-graduates, and hence the discrimination against them. |
Default01: Ishmeal u ar so so correctNo need to suppress the truth. It must surely come out in one way or another. |
Em-my:I'm not against the Bsc degree, i'm only saying the truth on what i have experienced first as a polytechnic student/graduate and secondly as a uni student/graduate. |
It's not a new thing. Muslims do same to xtains in the far north daily. |
Em-my:Laffss. I first u reach sef. |
Em-my:Why won't polytechnic HND graduate be equated to the university Bsc graduate? Have the uni graduates been able to show or prove in any way that they know better than the poly graduates? The problem with some of u is that u have this believe that ideally the university system should be better than the polytechnic, whereas in real sense and practically it has been proven to be false. I still have enough evidences and proofs far from assumptions why the polytechnics learn and acquire better skills and knowledge than the universities in nigeria. U have to agree here that the faulty curriculum of the university is partly responsible for why nigerian universities churn out half-baked graduates annually. The polytechnic has a robust curriculum that makes them produce competent and skillful ND and HND graduates. If i may ask, have u ever studied in any nigerian polytechnic before? Stop living in the land of assumption, it will take u nowhere. |
What are the entry req for MBA and Msc? I've seen people with 3rd class Bsc degree in nigeria bagging MBA, but have never seen any attempting to do Msc. Most skools req u to hold a 2.1 minimum to be admitted 4 Msc programme. MBA is an executive masters prog and does not give u time to do any serious research within one year. Don't compare it with the Msc that stretches u for 2 + x yrs, where x is unknown, doing both course work and research. |
wbash: Please I would like 2 know how much an o/s earns if u say a s/lt earns 50k.tanksthat was in 2006. A sub Lt earns like 180-195k monthly now. An ordinary seaman earns like 40-50k monthly. |
Krucifax: @ Poster from a career progression point of view,an MBA trumps an M.Sc for the acquisition of business management skills, fact. Also further down your career if you were in competition with an equally skilled and experienced candidate the one with an MBA normally wins out fact.Hope u know what it takes to get Msc? How can u say MBA is superior to Msc? I'm laffing at ur ignorance, and i feel u don't really know what the Msc degree is. In nigeria every Dick & Harry can get MBA within 12 months while very few people go for Msc and it takes a minimum of 24 months to get it. Some people even spend 48 months to get Msc, and u are here saying that MBA is superior. I pity u. |

Em-my:Forget about what the British may call it today. There is no polytechnic system of education again in the UK because they have achieved all they needed to achieve with it. They are now focused on advanced research & development which is only obtainable in the university system; that is why all polytechnics today in the UK have the same status as universities. In Nigeria the definition is different. It is a hybrid institution of higher learning where people learn both theoretical and applied skills in science, technology, business, and commerce. Nigeria still needs the polytechnic for technological advancement and growth, unfortunately it is being played with. |
Em-my:I did attend one in Nigeria where i bagged the so-much praised Bachelors of Science Degree (with honours). But i still insist with experimental, practical, and live proofs that university education at undergraduate level in nigeria is not as robust as what is obtainable in the polytechnics. Don't bother asking me how and why i said so, cos I passed through both systems. If u want to hear similar views, only ask those that have studied in both schools before, and not those that studied in only one of the schools. |
Nigerian govt are discouraging people from going to polytechnics with the discrimination against Polytechnic HND graduates. |
chuksk9: Xup galz, pls i need a vry honet nd matured reply.the nigeria navy nd airforce which one is preferable to join either as a cadet or thru recruitment.tanxBoth are very ok. They need mostly technical specialists, unlike the Nigerian Army. |
Nadoson: Mr X-fire. Ur talkin as if ur in dispute wit HND grads. Let me educate u smal, graduaitn 4rm a uni doznt min dat ur good. Do u knw dat educationl system in Poly is mor stressful & ellaborated 2 versitys?. 4 instanc, year 1 & 2 stdnts of uni uz 2 do secondary schl courses yl Poly wil introduc u 2 a new & advanc cours durin ur year 1.That's ok. |
