For those saying privates in the Nigerian Army earn 13k a month and 2Lt end 37k, its not true. Right now a private in the Armed forces(Army, Navy & Air force) earns about 31k a month and a 2Lt earns about. Some junior officers in the military especially those who are pilots in the airforce more than some people who work in banks as contract staff (HND holders) presently. Some of them earn as high as 150k in a month; and remember no NEPA and water bills to settle; and no house rent to pay to any landlord. The pay is a bit reasonable in the armed forces now. |
gbolahan85:And then the same GT Bank does not believe in HND holders, and employ them as contract staff and not as regular staff of GT Bank. Why is like that please if HND made the bank to be what it is today?? |
Ajike:My brother that's the truth o. Nigerians like big big words. Degree looks big while Diploma looks small. Look at the reforms Ghana just did. All Polytechnics are to award BTech Degrees. This is what we call educational reforms not the nonsense OBJ, his Education Minister and others did last year that eventually got cancelled by Yar'adua. Let Nigeria follow the foot steps of Ghana. See Ghana wey Nigeria dey look down at, their policy makers reason better than our own here in Nigeria. |
@Hnd-holder This is what we call educational reforms, not the rubbish OBJ and his education minister did in Nigeria last year that eventually got cancelled by Yar'adua. Let Nigeria do the same thing as Ghana. Why is it taking Nigeria a whole century to do such a thing?? After Nigerians dem go dey say Nigeria better pass Ghana, say Nigerians get sense pass Ghanaians. Na now i know say Ghana get sense pass Nigeria. Na wa o. |
Let govt change the meaning of the " " in HND from Higher National Diploma to Higher National Degree; may be that one fit help holders of HND. I think it's the word Diploma that the society hate. |
Will nigeria as a developing country ever cross the thin line between developing and developed and enter developed fully without polytechnics?? Look at Taiwan, Malaysia and other countries, they are doing better. |
The " " in HND should be changed from Diploma to Degree. Instead of Higher National Diploma it should be Higher National Degree; may be that could help, and make people respect products of nigerian polytechnics.Just a suggestion sha. |
onikoyi_a:Thanx. God will help all of us whether HND or Bsc. Abi God dey discriminate? |
richness:Well said my brother. Those heading polytechnics, those making decision for/against polytechnics in nigeria are all university graduates. Until people who passed thru polytechnics (holders of HND certificate) start taking decision for polytechnics there wont be any significant progress in the polytechnics. |
@akinalabi That is where d discrimination starts from (home), before it extends to the larger society. |
ayoade117:My guy i'm in the same school of thought with you. It should be abolished so that people wont go and waste their time there, only for them to be rejected by employers at the end of the day. The one that pains me most is the government; some government parastatals discriminate HND holders. What reason(s) have they given for not wanting HND to be given the same treatment as Bsc?? No body has ever come out to say any thing meaningful. |
ibadan poly, yabatech, imt enugu, kaduna poly, bida poly, kwara poly all do HND in statistics. Uni ilorin, uni ibadan, uni lag, ife, UNN, unical also do Bsc in Statistics. Unilag call theirs Maths+statistics. Apply for DE and go for Bsc. |
did your name come out? beware of hnd sha. |
Dont do HND o. Pls do Bsc and go 4 ur Msc. |
@Ajike if you are in doubt try and carryout a survey you will come to agree with me that most parents who have children in uni and poly tend to respect those in the uni more; and in terms of pocket money, project money and all that, the child in the university gets more than the one in poly. It may sound naive, but i tell you it's the truth. |
bunna:Better. It's a good idea. After ur ND apply for DE and go to the university where u will graduate with a Bsc; thats all. I tell you don't let anyone decieve you to go close to HND. Even in our houses parents and neighbours discriminate against HND holders; they give more pocket money and respect to kids in the universities than those in the polytechnics. |
when u are in the polytechnic they console u by telling you that hnd is equivalent to a degree, not knowing that even the government parastatals and ministries hate hnd certificate; they discriminate hnd holders, they even started it before the private sector. |
My own advice is that people should stop patronizing polytechnics; rather go to a university and get a Degree. HND is as good if not better than some of the Degrees, but who cares about that?? since nobody cares why not go and get a Degree and save yourself some stress. HND is a stressful qualification in Nigeria. |
But i thought the don't offer Accountancy in the universities but Accounting?? How comes Uniben gave u Accountancy and not Accounting?? YabaTech offers Accountancy, while ABU Zaria offers Accounting from what i know. |
Polytechnics in Nigeria are looked at the same way we look at Technical & commercial colleges today. Universities are looked at the same way we look at conventional secondary schools that offer pure secondary and comprehensive type of education. Ask yourself ,do people like or want their kids to go to Technical/commercial colleges?? |
Wether HND or Bsc the most important thing is to be able to impress people by being innovative. |
ariblaze:Fauziyyu Ma'aji was actually the Provost Marshal of his set. You guys passed out in 1996 abi?? Do you know Ezekiel Aluko?? i think he's a year your senior. |
Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm; says the Lord. |
how can alpha jet of all jets be deadly?? It's used for advance fighter pilot training and as a light bomber. if you call alpha jet dealy what would you call F-16/17?? |
segoye2:Wetin you dey do for UK?? Come to Nigeria and join the Army as an other rank and see if life no go tire you. |
@Pilot955, Which company where u in? When did u pass out? Na wa o. So Exboys are on this forum. What regular intake were u in ACA? I'm sure You met Kuponiyi, Oraeki, etc I heard they are in 301FTS Kaduna. Well I hope say I never blow your cover sorry O ! @pain Hey, so you know Seun kuponiyi and Emeka Oraeki?? They are my friends; they are in 301 FTS now for Transport pilot flying. What about Suleiman idris? Do you know him? What about Fauziyyu Ma'aji? You know him too? They are all ex-boys in the NAF. |
ChiefS:NOUN awards Bsc, so go to NOUN. |
@HND-holder HND holders are treated as outcasts in Nigeria. Even Government paratatals and ministries discriminate against holders of HND certificate. Companies and corporate organisations see HND holders as the best materials for contract jobs. They are employed to do the same work together with holders of BSc certificates, but their own terms of employment are always different, usually low pay and no good benefits compared to employees with BSc. But the funny thing is that they do the same job in the same office; but they are seen as the best materials for contract jobs. |
my brother, fashi thar HND thing and go for Bsc. Why worry ur self to get HND form?? Buy DE form and go to the university and do Bsc, that's my own advice. |
henrijin:That's what they always say that poly graduates are better than uni graduates; but why is it that uni graduates are preferred to poly graduates?? That's the question i' ve been asking. |
oloksman1:i hear you!! Ore mi, moti gbo. mistake lose; mi'oni 3rd class. Olorun ma'je. Teachers and lecturers do the same job jo. Or do lecturers preach while Teachers teach?? |
oloksman1:Now what is the difference in the job of a teacher and a lecturer?? No be teach all of them dey teach?? I hear you;Lecture ko, Tutor ni. |
