fataiiyo:pally you're a disgrace to Nigerian polytechnics (Ibadan poly in particular). It's because of people like you that university students/graduates look down at polytechnic students/graduates. Your grammer and spellings are very poor. Why?? Did i hear you say something close to Statistician? You cannot be one, because you cannot even spell the word Statistician correctly. Statisticians that i know have good communication skills. Are you sure you're not a road side Mechanic?? Please always check your tenses, grammer and spellings before you post on Nairaland, because what you just posted here now stinks. Imagine, now you are making university students and graduates on Nairaland to laugh at you and polytechnics in general. |
alex406:Yes it's a great idea. But my question is will polytechnic BTech graduates be admitted directly to do MTech and MSc in the university?? Will polytechnics be running their own MTech/Msc and PhD programs?? |
I just hope they will not discriminate BTech Degrees from polytechnics sha. What i feel is the major problem in Nigeria is the school (Poly) that awards the HND certificate that people have failed to recognise and not the HND certificate, therefore i'm afraid the society might still look down at BTech from polytechnics the same way they look down at the HND certificate. A better solution to me is for polyechnics to run MTech, Msc and PhD programs so as to allow HND/BTech graduates to progress academically. |
Seun:Most universities of Technology(if not all) in Nigeria award BTech Degrees in all their courses even if it is geography, economics, accounting, mathematics, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology etc; but Engineering courses still remain BEng. |
@HND-holder I learnt FG wants polytechnics to start awarding BTech Degrees. The BTech will replace HND. How true is this story? |
YabaTech is still YabaTech; it is still a college of Technology like other polytechnics. |
if HND certificate is what is causing problem for polytechnics in Nigeria it should be scrapped and abolished and replaced with another certificate so that poly graduates can breath and eat well again. The discrimination of HND certificate has affected so many mentally and psychologically. |
YabaTech is still a college of Technology just like the polytechnics. |
Hnd-holder:But why is it so? Polytechnics carry more load than universities and yet some people still think it is not enough for HND certificate to be compared with a Bsc degree. |
akinalabi:I doubt if you know the meaning of middle level manpower. If you call HND middle level, what would you call ND?? are you going to say ND is lower level manpower if i may ask?? |
Hnd-holder:90% of polytechnic lecturers are university graduates; why is it like that?? To me polytechnic lecturers should be people that passed through polytechnic (HND program) before proceeding to the university for further studies. This also to me accounts for why some polytechnic graduates in science and Technology fields know nothing about practical technology. |
Hnd-holder:Me i would have loved both HND and polytechnic to go together. Nigerians hate HND certificate not because of the name but because it comes from polytechnic, and people do not believe in anything that comes from polytechnic; so let both of them go. |
@HND-holder I pray HND leaves Nigeria soon o, because it is a very difficult certificate. Yes o, if PDP god-father, Adedibu can die it means HND will surely pass away too. |
HND certificate has suffered so much in Nigeria. May God continue to console HND holders. |
Hnd-holder:HND-holder, you are very funny. |
In my next world i will never go close to polytechnic and HND. I have had enough of the discrimination. |
IM INTERSTED TOO. SEND DETAILS TO: ishmaelxy@yahoo.com |
My own advice is that HND and polytechnics in Nigeria should be scrapped. alot of people have died as a result of high BP and hypertension from HND discrimination. people should stop going to look for admission in the polytechnics; the better you go and learn business or trade. |
e_samfor2:The curriculum are not supposed to be the same. The polytechnic curriculum should be more technical than that of the university, while that of the university should be more theoretical than that of the polytechnics, which is what we have on ground already. |
Nigeria is a very funny country. Those soldiers were travelling all the way from Lagos to Maiduguri by road after returning from UN peace keeping, na wa o. What is the Air force C-130 Hercules aircraft meant for?? Is it not for conveying troops and their equipments? The same C-130 aircraft now functions as a plane for conveying corpses. How can soldiers from a barracks in Borno state return back from a UN mission in Sudan and are dropped in Lagos airport by a UN transport plane only for them to be asked by the Nigerian Military to travel in a convoy of military trucks from Lagos to Borno state?? I still ask, what is the function of the Air force C-130 transport aircraft? Is it for movement of troops or for movement of corpses?? The same plane that our military refused to use in flying these soldiers to Maiduguri airport was the same plane they used in flying their dead bodies to Abuja for burial. The Chief of Defence staff, Chief of Army staff and Chief of Air staff should be held responsible for the death of these soldiers. |
May God help Nigeria. Don't be surprised that even the BTech Degree from polytechnics will be discriminated like the HND. |
@HND-holder Let dem abolish HND please and allow polytechnics to be awarding BTech. NCE has no problem as far as i'm concern. |
@HND-holder why can't one or some of the senators move a motion for the scrapping of HND in Nigeria?? The HND issue is really a serious problem to Nigerians. Let them abolish HND and allow people to hear word i beg. |
Hnd-holder:That is why i like ICAN, where HND and Bsc holders are made to sit and write the same exams to see who is actually an Accountant. If NSE and COREN feel HND engineers are only Technically-oriented, it does nt mean that other fields are like that. Are polytechnic Accountancy graduates only technically-oriented?? |
@HND-holder The best solution is for polytechnic lecturers to go on strike while the students protest. This is rubbish. Na wa o, don't we have people with HND certificate in the house of assembly?? Why can't they stand up and defend the polytechnic/HND curriculum?? who says polytechnic curriculum in engineering is only Technical?? It's not true; it is both technical, theoretical and contains design too. What about other fields like acountancy, architecture, surveying, computer science, statistics, estate mgt etc; are they also only technical without theory?? |
Case closed. No point arguing over HND and Bsc again. Government should do Nigerians a favour by abolishing polytechnics and HND certificate. |
donmayor:My brother that's a good question o. it was just a mere say o; no body has passed any law. |
@HND-holder HND-holder where are u?? what do you have to say about this?? |
prosper234:Neglect of technical & vocational education. |
I think i have come to agree with those saying that HND and BSc are not equivalent. With what is going on in Nigeria now i think FG are just playing games with Polytechnic graduates, else why taking Bsc holders as level 08 officers and HND holders as level 07 officers in the civil service?? They have so decieved many Nigerians to go for HND telling them that it is equivalent to a Degree. They even ask HND graduates to go for NYSC with Degree holders; but at the end of the day they still term the HND graduate as a decorated monkey; and a decorated monkey can never be a human being as we all know, it is still a monkey. That is exactly what i feel and believe about this discrimination against HND holders in Nigeria. Chei, na wa oo. Run away from HND my brothers and sisters. |
Honestly people concern need to stand up and fight against it, else this discrimination against holders of HND will never stop in this country. @HND-holder, where are you please?? With what is going on now i have now come to agree that HND is not equivalent to Bsc in Nigeria, else Federal Government will not be discriminating. They have so decieved many to do HND that it is equivalent to a Degree. They even ask HND graduates to go for NYSC with Degree holders; but at the end of the day they still term you as a decorated monkey; and a decorated monkey can never be a human being as we all know, it is still a monkey. That is exactly what i feel and believe about this discrimination against HND holders in Nigeria. Chei, na wa oo. Run away from HND my brothers and sisters. |
I saw an advert in one of the dailies 2 days ago. Ministry of interior incharge of Police, Civil Defence, Immigration and Prison services wants to employ. They stated in the advert that Bsc holders will be taken in their superintendant cadre while HND and ND holders will be taken as Inspectors and assistant Inspectors respectively. what manner of discrimination is this?? Coming from the same Federal Government that claims HND and Bsc holders are given equal treatment in terms of FG emploment. I wonder what they want employers in the private sector to do to HND holders if they can do this. What do you guys have to say about this discrimination coming from those who are suppose to fight against it. |
