This HND thing should be scrapped jo, so that people will not waste their time and resources going to do a program (HND) that will not be recognised and accepted in the labour market. |

Mathematicians are well respected people in US and UK. Every company there wants to employ people with mathematical skills, unlike Nigeria where people in the Arts and social sciences have upper hand in getting jobs. |

Tayodapo: Hi People
I am a graduate of Mathematics from the University of Ibadan. There is a big misconception i will like to correct quickly before somepeople discourage their younger ones from studying Mathematics. Being a Mathematician carry with it a BIG PRIDE and Loads of Opportunities.
I have never been unemployed since the day i finished NYSC. I have changed 6 Jobs in 2 and a half years. The new company always want to steal me from the other one. This is because of favour , as well as the notion that since you are a mathematician, then you can be thought anything, absolutely anything and you will get good immediately. Your analytical skills will help you learn and master any skill. Your Applied mathematics - Mathematical Modelling will help you model all manner of scenerios and predict possible outcomes.
Mathematics is life, Yes, you are correct. But how many people/companies have come to realise how significant mathematics and mathematicians are to them?? Just go ahead and get MSc in Statistics or Operations Research and make yourself more relevant. |

saintchux: There is a big discrimination in degree and HND in banking sector. Have the whole IT certification with HND some bank will not look at u, but with degree in engineering, computer science and related course will do. I don't want to list any bank here. If u want to know more of those banks send me mail. my address is on my profile. IT certification is more of an added advantage to the place am working, not compulsory. Please what are those related courses?? could they be Mathematics, Statistics, Physics etc.?? |

texazzpete: Yet another reason why Paraga consumption must be banned! Any ape knows that there are more muslims than Christians in Northern Nigeria I just hope you've not taken some paraga too. Where did you get your statistics from to show that we have more muslims than christians in the north? You could as well say that we have more christians than muslims in the south-west of nigeria. As far as i know religion was not included in the last census. Or is it because the muslims in kano and other places are quick to rising up?? kaduna and jos are in the north check out those places first before you talk. |

bolafancy: Mr Isimaila, which one is your own, that you are not so lucky doesnt mean others would also be, going to polytechnic is not a wasting of time. If you are destined to reach somewhere in this life, you will surely reach there with no obstacle. Please seal your mouth . your yoruba acsent is really cheating on you. My name is ishmael please, not isimaila. For your information I'm among the lucky ones that attended polytechnic, atleast things were not as bad as they are today. We were given the opportunity and allowed to compete with our university cunterparts, unlike what is happening today, whereby HND holders would be barred and banned from submitting their CVs not to talk of writing the aptitude test. The society today sees polytechnic certificate to be like Technical school certificate and not a Degree. Save yourself the insult and wahala and go to a university where u will be given a Bsc, BA or BTech and not HND. HND is a stressful qualification. |

bumstuff: thanks man am actually into maths and computer science @ federal polytechnoc ado-ekiti.am on with my HND now. You are doing HND in computer science and not Maths and computer science in Fedpoly Ado. Though there is maths in the course but in the polytechnic as far as NBTE is concerned it is called HND Computer Science. Some universities call theirs Maths & computer science and they award Bsc and BTech. |

dodowaski: Yes. I have a cousin with HND in Electrical Engineering. He is with Chevron and they have sent him abroad for the past two years! I have a friend with HND in Accountancy and he is a Banking Executive earning about 3.5m p.a. with Fidelity Bank.
My sister has an HND in Secretarial Administration and she is a Banking Executive with the same Fidelity Bank
I have LL.B in Law and I have not been that fortunate. The bottom line is ignore all those funny companies that discriminates against HND holders. Develope yourself and the sky is your limit. Thank you for that post. |
Education › Re: Polytechnic Ibadan by ishmael(m): 6:23pm On Sep 28, 2007 |
Tosin, don't worry it is well whether you have a Bsc or HND. But we still need to educate the society, make dem believe that polytechnics are as good as the universities in terms of theory and better than them in terms of practical; and the HND certificate is just an equivalent of the BTech and BSc. Private universities really are for the rich at the moment, but i believe soon the poor too would be able to afford the fees. |

Tosin wole: hello ishmael, am kemite friend, i read your views on the poly issue. i left secondary schl in 2002 and am now in HND2 and attemptin UME 2 times without success. not that i never wish 2 go 2 a uni but i dnt want 2 stay at home. my friends dt we finished 2gether are still @ home tryin 2 find uni in their area. think of this Have you tried getting admission in any of the private universities?? polytechnics are good but the society and labour market looks down at the HND certificate, that is the problem. I passed thru poly too and have HND too, but i still don't encourage people to go there especially the young ones. |
Education › Re: Polytechnic Ibadan by ishmael(m): 6:32pm On Sep 25, 2007 |
KEMITE: hello ishmael, how many university is in your locality that u can get admmision as easy as u have said, if u don't know what to say wit your mouth,go and blow whistle wit your mouth if u dnt know what 2 do your time online, i have two universities in my locality. There are too many universities now in nigeria (state, private and federal), unlike before when we had like say 40 universities in the country. polytechnics and their certificates are looked down at in nigeria, so why waste your time going there when your HND certificate would be classified as a certificate slightly above O'levels? and lastly i use my mouth to talk, eat, kiss etc. |

Look for the nearest university in your locality, go there and get a Bsc. |

Remove the HDD, take it to another system that you are sure is working well, remove the cables from the HDD of thw working system and connect it to the HDD and install the OS there. Afterwards remove the HDD and take it back to the system and connect it. power it on and see if it would boot to desktop. It sounds naive, but it worked for me when i had a similar problem. |

AhmedGuru: you can either use numerical solution or matix method to solve the probelm. But whichever method you choose, you can solve the problem by examinig how to solve the problem with pen and paper first. Then you can formulate the algorithm. Or better still, you can check numerical methods texts. Most Numerical method text feature algoriths. You are correct. You need to know how to solve a problem using pen and paper first before you can write out a good algorithm as well as a good program. |
