Apparently banks have different methods; in the case of GTB they debit you only if the bid is successful, (ie amount bidded is removed less the interest) otherwise, the money is untouched.

Banks have swiftly raised interest on their loan offerings. The huge spread between CBN interest from TBs and customer saving rates offers an economic blackhole for these institutions to make lots of money without any additional benefit or productivity to the economy.

Reminds me of the UK parliament recently querrying bank bosses for not raising their savings rates for customers fast enough in line with the Bank of England rate hike but rather keeping the profits to themselves. Better savings rates would encourage saving and hopefully put downward pressure on inflation

Those who think banks will have any significant reduction in profit this year will be shocked.

Ive read through all their products and it seems you can easily withdraw your funds (within 48hrs), so I'm trying to understand why it's not a better alternative...

I've not taken my time to look at this coral balanced fund but my guess is that it's exposed to the stock market.

So find out what the underlying assets are. If my suspicion is right, be rest assured that the 27% can also be a negative figure tomorrow or it can go as high as 60%.

Nothing is cast in stone.

There's time to buy dips and time to just stay out.

Most people don't have endless liquidity. The market can stay irrational longer than anyone can stay solvent.

Of that $5B they cleared, they got $2B in loans from AfriEXIM bank and $2B from FPIs.
CBN also now receives oil sales receipt from the NNPC.

And they did not need to dip into the reserves until they started the intervention.
Most of the money used for the backlog clearance will have to be repaid.
They cleared the backlog with debt.



So if it will take $3B to move the rate to 900, why not spend $10B to move it 300?
In fact, why stop there?
Why not spend $13B to move it to 100. Or $15B to make it $1 to N1.
After all, the reserves are not for decoration.

Spend the money to peg the rate and your feelings will keep it at that rate forever. Like magic!

Few weeks back, people were begging for these prices, now that it's here, no one wants to buy.

The silver lining is, it will soon get to a level where CBN can no longer afford a fall they don't have reserves to sustain.

It should start to rally again from there. Anyone holding long term has nothing to worry about.

For me, any dollar I buy, I plan to hold for 15 years while I sit back and allow compound interest do the magic.

....he is businessman bro, I believe he saw it coming. He faced same hardship when he secured UAE route. He wasn't allowed to land in Dubai or Abu Dhabi but Sharjah and twice in a week. Fly Dubai, Fly Emirates and Etihad didn't let them breathe.

I believe he learned from the Experience and should have prepared well for UK route. He has got the Government's backing, what he needs now is our backing. He is simplying appealing to Nigerians to stick to his Airlines - a good call by the way.
