Yeah I guess its worth a try but you will probably be fine with bit over 12V to charge your battery, I think!

I just got 12 yards of ethernet cable today and will be trying out the pad fixing soon. Been too busy lately no time for the DIY.
The only things I have done recently is repair computers, Install windows and programs. Actually on gaming PCs.
Today I had to replace one of the 2 power packs in my super PC cos I had some over voltage recently which messed up the power supply.
The two main filter capacitors 200V 470uf had blown their top. But I am replacing the power pack outright. I will replace this capacitors inthe pack on a later date sibnce the power pack still working, for use in any other PC.
InvestmentStock Brokerage Account Drained Of All Funds, What Can I Do? Help! by iukpe(op): 2:52am On Feb 08, 2009
Nairalanders, as I am writting i am confused of over what to do next.

A few years ago, my brother in-law who is lives outside Nigeria helped procure some items I needed for business and required that I open him a brokerage account with the amount equivalent.
At the time there was a fellow who was marketing for a stock firm and I decided to open the account with the firm. He was the account officer and assisted with all transactions in this account. I bought a few shares with the money, NBL, WAPCO etc.

Through the period I had always just checked how the stock was doing and would pass the information out to my brother in-law.
In 2006 when the brokers opened their website, my in-law was anxious to access his account online and I requested his details from the stock broker and balance but he was unable to do so since their site was not as set up as he expected.

In 2007 when I visited my in-law, I requested for his statement from the account officer and he gave me a print out which i passed to my inlaw. When I returned I tried to reach the account officer to clear issues my in-law had raised over accessing his account online, only to realise that the account officer was no longer reachable on phone in any way.
I decided to visit the broker's office and presented the account details only to find out that all stocks in the account had been sold and cheque collected.
I walked up to the manager to complain, he admitted that the account officer was a fraudster who worked with them and had duped a lot of customers of up to N40m.
He advised me to write a letter of complain which I did.
To my surprise up till this day and after several other letters and meetings with the broker nothing has been done and no response to the matter.
It's as if they are rather waiting for me to get frustrated and possibly forget about the matter.
They have requested my in-law's phone number, e-mail and other details etc which I have provided.
I got a notorised letter from my in-law introducing himself and since the account was in his name.

What do I do about this matter? I am withholding broker name and other details for obvious reasons.
Please someone help cos I am out of ideas.
PoliticsRe: What Are The 5 Most Developed Countries On The African Continent by iukpe: 12:27am On Feb 05, 2009
I am not sure I know which country is most developed, but I am sure its not Nigeria.

Development

Systematic use of scientific and technical knowledge to meet specific objectives or requirements.

Extension of the theoretical or practical aspects of a concept, design, discovery, or invention.

Process of economic and social transformation based on complex cultural and environmental factors and their interactions.

Process of adding improvements to life by providing, electricity, drainage, access, roads, utilities, healthcare, rail transport, schools and security.

Personally I have observed that Nigerians feel we are "too much"
That's a good thing, but it should not make us loose the drive to get better. In the real sense, comparing our population to our rate of development I consider we have a long way to go.

If we refer to countries like Ghana, Libya, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa etc I fear that we may add 2 more before Nigeria.

We need to work our way to the top by developing the things that make us "too much"

Human resources, Natural resources and our advantage of almost zero natural disasters or sudden change in geologic conditions.
GamingRe: Question About Ps3 by iukpe: 12:14am On Jan 27, 2009
I have a PS3 sitting in my living room hooked up to my LCD TV. I must say its one of the best things ever built after the computer.
Any case, I bought my PS3 in PH over a year ago, and I have bought blu ray discs from Dubai and the USA and all play the same so that may mean they are all region compatible or something.
I play my locally sourced DVDs on it too and i cannot remeber it rejecting any.
Its a great multimedia center and i have bought games from Dubai and the USA all the same but not from the UK. What I have not bothered to check is which DVDs might be pal or whatever.
I may have to look into much detail to verify the region free concern that you have.

No tech likes to mess things up while working on it. Unfortunately, thats what just happened as I was setting up to test my monitor with a PC. It looked to me like the CRT board with its metal shield wasnt sitting properly in its place. So I thought I push it back in place and oops! a spark and back to tick tick tick.

I traced this to a damaged LM2445 IC which is a CRT driver chip which was shorting its 80V supply from the power supply.

Back I go to the electronics parts market within the week. This could have been avoided.
I guess the CRT board metal shield is a bit too close to the board cos I only pushed a little, and have to pay for it.

In anycase, I got IRF630 in place of IRFS630 its the same thing i guess but with a metal tab instead of full plastic case. So i will had to isolate the heatsink from the main board grounding somehow before installing the transistor.

No more tick tick sound at powerup but i didnt get the "no signal" background either. so I need to look further.

I think its time to test with a PC VGA input.

I had to move this one from a different topic because I think this is the best place for it.

LG CRT desktop monitor 710S Tick tick tick sound at powerup
power LED blinking orange.
Opened up the cover . Disconnected CRT HV yoke, scan coil wires and other grounding connection and degaussing to allow paneld to be removed from metal mounting.
Placed panel in a suitable position next to crt to test.

Reconnected CRT HV yoke and scan coil, then powered on. Tick tick tick present.
Obviously /hopefully something was shorting.

Powered off an discharged 400V 180uf filter cap after recieviung a nasty shock.
Tested all secondary rectifier diodes at secondary end of PS SMPS. No shorts seen.
Disconnected 50V and 15V output rectifiers at cathode.
Powered up and tick tick tick gone. Green light blinking but no HVT action.
Re connected 15v sec rectifier diode back to pcb and power on. LED still blinking green but with gegauss relay operation .
Installed 50V sec rectifier diode and tick tick tick returns at power on.

So something is definitely shorted at the 50v SECONDARY LINE.
Next I isolate as many components as possible related to the 50v dc output line.
Short which was traced to IRFS630 a 200V N-Channel B-FET Transistor. Gate and source shorted.

I will source for this component this week, hope that will fix the problem.

A friend of mine has a Creative Inspire GD580 surround PC speaker system that stopped working.

After inspection I realised the Audio chip TDA8510 is dead. I cannot find this chip in PH. Can someone tell me where to find this maybe if I can get it in Lagos.

If my search for this IC is unsuccessful, My option will be to rebuild the amplifier section with more available audio ICs.

The TDA8510J has 3 audio amplifiers in a single chip.

Sometime this week I am going to start to fix a few PS2 gamepads I have had out of my Gamecenter in the last year or so, there are over 50 of them including some xbox pads.
Very frustarting, some of them were not really used for 2days.
I found out the problem with most of the pads are the cords. Those are the ones most difficult to fix I should say.
So I am going to be swapping their regular cords for Ethernet cable since I found out the PS2 padsd liike the ethernt cables have 8 lines.
This might not be easy but worth a try.

I am attaching a diagram showing wiring for two types of PS2 pads.
For the sake of reference, the pin numbers on the plugs will be fixed reference, while the numbers are done looking into the plug from the pin side holding it with the flat side upwards.

I do a lot of these at home almost everyday when I think I have had too much of PC and PS3 Gaming.

I will be posting a few of my experience here from time to time and I hope techs out there or just hobbyists, and hands on fellows will feel free to do the same.
If there is some trouble reviving that old or perhaps favourite gadget that just stopped doing what it should and you just dont think you should let go, maybe we can find a way of making it work.

So lets set the ball rolling.

Sorry guys, didnt mean to be so long before communicating. Just happened. I have been around the other forums.

Well, electronically, not much is happening. I have a few projects I have worked on recently but all at various stages of completion.
However I still get my hands on a few things from time to time.

I will post a few of my troublew shooting and repairs mainly kind of do-it-yourself for me.

This one is a CRT monitor I think I should revive than junk, and this is where I stand this morning.

CultureRe: Is Repainting Houses Against Nigerian Culture? by iukpe: 6:00am On Jan 22, 2009
Traditionally, the African man is not made for tall buildings and fences with gates, roofing tiles, Aluminium windows, water system, paint and so on.

We just got drawn into it by civilization, and that is why there is such a problem with the way things are looking.
Buildings not painted regularly,
Buildings painted and fence not painted.
Building painted and surrounding bushy.
Multi story buildings not painted regularly as should be.
Govt offices, schools, hospitals looking shabby and horrible.

All the extra trouble of painting and repainting is just a bit too much pshycho stuff for the average naijaman including lots of govts in Nigeria.

If we had modified our original village setting through technology, thatched houses built to schools, govt offices and our traditional style homes. of course without fences or gates the paint issue would have been taken care of, by the beautiful red color of mother earth on all our buildings with a touch of green bushes around.

AutosRe: Okada Ban In Portharcourt by iukpe: 3:18am On Jan 22, 2009
No more bike accidents- Good
No more abuses on the roads -Good
Less noise- Good

Bike riders were unsafe, untrained, arrogant, irresponsible, dirty etc etc

Lets think of what next to do about getting people from one place to another without bringing back the bikes.
AutosRe: Okada Ban In Port Harcourt by iukpe: 3:12am On Jan 22, 2009
Its the 22nd of january today and I believe if Okada had been in place there would have been some casualties from bike accidents from 1st to this date.
Deaths, broken limbs etc. Some of the most horrible and gruesome accidents in the state have had okadas involved. If you go round the state capital today, you will see little or no accidents which used to be a daily thing.

Some lives have been saved. And that is the greatest thing on earth.
Kudos to the government.

Wider roads and more taxis is the way foward now.
taxis should learn to go anywhere and the drivers plan their routes according to passenger requests, thats what taxis are about, instead of waiting to fill up at one point like the buses.
The govt and NURTW should ban taxis from waiting in a line for passengers now that they are painted in the state taxi color as a means of forcing them to ply more routes to make money.
I think everything is kind of on track. It would have been impossible to see the real picture or implement anything with the okadas plying the roads.
Nairaland GeneralPort-harcourt City Is One Big Market Place. by iukpe(op): 3:01am On Jan 22, 2009
You can buy almost anything on any street in port-harcourt, I mean anything.
Food stuff, clothings, hardware, Generators, building materials, mobile phones or phone parts and accessories, kitchen ware, Audio and music CDs and DVDs.
Home appliances and electronics, beverage, wine, meat etc.

Though a true modern-day city shouldnt have this profile but I mean its so easy and convinient. Port-harcourt is truely a unique city.

Market-city not Garden-city
PoliticsRe: Mallam Ribadu Dismissed From The Police! by iukpe: 10:07am On Dec 25, 2008
Abeg, was Ribadu such a bad guy before he was picked for the job of EFCC boss?
Was he not a sound disciplined police officer with commendable records?

Why did all this wahala begin as soon as he left the job? why was he simply not tried in a law court for his conduct as EFCC boss. I am sure the police has the tools to prosecute any officer that goes against the rules of carrying out fair duty.

Why demotion, arrests etc etc and all this happening so fast.
We all know this country well unless we are pretending not to.
There is no smoke without fire.
If Ribadu runs for fear or to safety let us think twice about it.

Fowl we de run for daytime, somethin de pursue am-o!

Lets remember Kudirat - RIP, and NAFDAC boss escaping death for doing a great job.

Was the corruption uncovered twice in the Nigerian police by Ribadu staged?
Were all the Governors prosecuted during or after their tenure in the last administration wrongly accused?
Is there no more corruption in the Nigerian Police force as we speak?

I am asking because I do not know him before the EFCC job and all that has followed. He may have done some bad things but for being a pioneer boss of an agency that has made public officers for the first time in Nigeria to be committed to service to some better degree than ever known, I think my rating for him is still above 50%

If we had a weak non performer as first EFCC boss no one will have anything to remember.
What kind of message are we sending to upcoming EFCC bosses?

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Seeks N59 billion Loan To Build New Satellites by iukpe: 12:26am On Dec 05, 2008
Does anyone know what kind of contracts are associated with this satellite project thing, I am interested.

Let us look at the brighter side!
N40 billion plus N59 billion is not too much for our Nation's Technological advancement.

If the satellite thing is successful, it can provide jobs in the future for NIGERIAN ASTRONAUTS.
Maybe we could develop technology using sunlight reflected from the satellite to generate much needed electricity to power our industries.
Youths can be trained to repair this satellite so next time it will not PARK itself as it was said, and then get missing at the end.

I own a small company and currently into general supplies/ construction, and am really interested in this satellite project I will like to know how to register with NigComSat Limited as contarctor.

Is anyone getting through with PS3 online? The new 2.52 firmware seems to be holding things up for me.

YES!!!! I started playing my FARCRY 2 on PC from the 26th of Nov 2008 and , Phew!!!!!! its good.

Though I must say the game play isn't as real as the first Farcry, the gameplay actually captures your senses when the action comes. hopefully there will be no monsters and creatures on this one.

Ubisoft should have done a better job on the storyline for this game.
In anycase its something to keep me busy into the xmas season as I start my vacation on the 3rd of December.

"Politicians are people who spend your money and get praised for it"

Its sad that in Nigeria non performers have been praised for doing nothing, let the man do his job. In the land where there is so much to do the normal things, the little things stand out.
Sustainability is what we really want to see in any projects in any state today. So Fashola should build foundations for his successors to build on.

PoliticsHouse Asks Fg To Reject $3bn World Bank Loan by iukpe(op): 11:28pm On Nov 14, 2008
Opposition has continued to mount against the offer of a $3 billion loan for infrastructural development by World Bank, with the House of Representatives passing a resolution rejecting the facility.
The House urged the Federal Government to reject the loan describing it as a “death trap” which should be avoided considering the fact that the country had only a few years ago managed to secure partial pardon of a backlog of debts owed the London and Paris clubs of creditors.

I think we should take this loan, since we cannot see what the past loans did to our currency and we are such a good country at managing financial resources.

Maybe the Ministry of health will spend billions of Naira soon to order equipment for marrow transplant to cure AIDS in the country.

Nigerians who have ideas have never been encouraged by past governments.

e.g.
1. Dr Ezekiel Izuogu- Nigerian made car Z-600

2. Brino Gilbert - Counter Collision Gadget (CCG) a device that has the capacity to avert accidents on the road, air, sea and rail.

3. Mohammed Bah Abbah - pot-in-pot cooling system for refrigeration.

4. Philip Emeagwali - Gordon Bell Prize winner on computing with over 41 inventions submitted to the US. Patent and Trademark Office.

THIS IS THE REASON WE LACK INDEGINOUS POWER, MEDICAL CARE, RAIL ROAD AND GENERAL TRANSPORTATION, ETC
AND WE HAVE NOTHING TO SELL TO THE WORLD OTHER THAN OUR HUMAN RESOURCES AND OIL.

Its really not whether its govt duty to support them or not, but what do you think when these people are asking for the support or recognition from a govt that when unseated will be blamed for billions of unaccounted naira. I am sure the Wright brothers got support from their govt at the time either license to try their invention or the piece of land to experiment.
