I THINK THE COMPETITION IS WELCOME. THE MOBILE PHONE ERA HAS BROUGHT AN EXPERIENCE FOR NIGERIANS WHERE PRICES DROP. PHONES BECOME CHEAPER AS NEW MODELS ARE INTRODUCED AND THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF FREE THINGS COMING IN DAILY. I HOPE THIS COULD BE EXTENDED TO OTHER SERVICES LIKE ELECTRICITY AND TRANSPORTATION. |

michelin89, I think there are a lot of important reasons to have your child carry a mobile phone. I know some children have mobile phones in the boarding house. Lots of parents give these phoes to keep track of their children for security reasons. Some parents get their children simple phones, like VISAPHONE type, no fancy, no memory cards or bluetooth connectivity, some parents get their children a bit advanced phones with all the good features. When I was a teenager there were no mobile phones but I was very mature at heart. Today there is a lot of exposure to rotten material, via music used as ring tones, voice recordings, voice calls however cannot be avoided. Videos and internet. Parents may not necessarily pay the all bills, people can send recharge numbers to anyone so it may not be a benchmark for checking the phones. I know some teenagers receive "Good" mobile phones as gifts from relatives or friends even if their parents did not desire to buy them such phones. I know of a case with some issues in a home over a mobile phone gift to a teenage girl, which was more serious than her elder brother's phone. It wasn't a pleasant experience for her either when their father decided to seize the phone to avoid all the controversy in the house. However I think children's mobile phones should be checked by parents from time to time perhaps until they are above 15 yrs. Also it might be a good thing to restrict phone types to call and sms feature phones only. Visaphone and starcomms maybe. |
I lifted the post below from a nairalander's reply, I am just wondering why churches tolerate fake practices for any reason. Can one just start speaking in tongues at will during a conversation or prayer. post by webguru Re: Falling Under Anointing - Hoax, Real Or Hypnosis? speaking is tongues is vital for building your faith and helps u to pray on things you cld never think of praying on i also used the excuse that it wasn't compulsory when i didn't speak in tongues. Get the gift of speaking in tongues. Everyone can get it and must! |
I am wondering in this age of mobile phones how many parents take their time to ensure that their teenage or even younger children do not keep undesireable media in their mobile phones, like pictures, music or videos. Today we have all kinds of material circulating the mobile phone world and can be transferred easily without physical connection of persons or devices. What exactly should be the responsibility of parents and the extent of commitment to this kind of check if actually it is proper. |
We all know the way around our neighborhood, but what if I visited your state, how do I find a street in Surulere in Lagos I have never been to before in Ondo and the rest. I agree that estimating the time for arrival might not be realistic considering our unique situation, but if I had to visit Ondo for a wedding or festival, I would need to know exactly when I get to some points like city halls , church, streets etc. GPS and road mapping information could also be very useful for truckers and goods delivery personnel. |
Basically what the GPS does is, locate your position or the GPS position by tracking and receiving signals from satellites in space. It uses the signals from this satellites to tell its exact location on the planet, North and East references. Speed, time of the day. The Garmin GPS receivers I have used can plot your routes so you can find your actual travel path even out in open sea. You can never be lost with it. basically I have mine to my car dash board most of the time when I am driving and it keeps a log of my trip and routes always. Again you can create way points to mark some important locations like your church, school, Library, filling station, banks, restaurants, hotels name it. There are GPS maps available for several models of GPS for some major cities in the world. These are useful for visitors, travelers and tourists because you can find your way around a lot easily than you can Imagine. My disappointment has been that there is no road maps anywhere of Nigerian with points of interest like banks. post offices hotels etc. |
I have used a Garmin handheld GPS reciever for years now and recently acquired a Garmin 60csx handheld. I am looking at building a maps and routes database that I can share with others. Any GPS users out there can communicate. I will post my routes of PH town and some parts of lagos here soon. |

Why are millions of Nigerians still made to contribute monthly to PHCN for services not provided? If you do not use electricity or you use more than what you can actually afford you get about the same bill monthly. The electricity power lines in my area in Woji PH were recently pulled down due to road and drainage construction because the Poles needed to be relocated. The bills just came in for the same period. Why can't PHCN aggressively distribute The new scratch card meters they have recently introduced. |
I live and work in PH, where there is really nothing for recreation. No parks, no beaches, and there are no popular play grounds. I Work almost 7days every week. Is it just fast foods on sundays thats available for families? The men hang out after work, weekdays. Drink some beer, hang out at the bars before heading home, usually avoiding the annoying PH evening traffic. Its raining these days so I don't know about swimming. I have my own style anyway, I play a lot of video games and spend time with my RC toys but I am just wondering what really Nigerians do for recreation. |
For your information Omotola Jolade Ekehinde earn N750,000 per movie and you can imagine how many movie she features ina month. Genevieve earns N1m per movie which is even more than the per annum salry of a banker that works from morning till night for solid 365days. How much money is spent on these movies they make so much from? They r lucky to have the people who buy whatever movies they make. |
Just finished MEDAL OF HONOR AIRBORNE on PC. Enjoying GRID racedriver on PC on PS3 currently playing GTA4 and SEGA RALLY REVO I need to go back n finish my COD4 PC I have a feeling I got very close to the end of the game. |
I think the problem really isnt about budget, cost or the investment. There are some good foreign movies without much outdoor scene, nothing is blown-up,no guns, no fast cars or mansions, but a well made story. I have seen a few movies like, detective stories- indoors only. from police office to crime scene. suspects home, victims home etc. only outdoor scenes probably outside the police station, police car pulling up outside the victim's home or suspects office or home. Courtroom movies. Horror thrillers-shot in a small outdoor camp. Obviously these are not expensive compared to JAMES BOND, STAR TRECK AND SPIDERMAN movies. The problem I see is the story line for Naija movies. There needs to be seriousness and creativity in the minds of our script writers and producers. I saw a naija movie scene once that had to do with some top cop investigation story. The detectives were on the trail of a criminal and decided to check up his data on a PC. guess what! they went to a cyber cafe to do this. As if this blunder was not enough, the detective was busy punching away on the key board presumably making entries to call up his data, with all serious looks on his face and his counterpart's, finally they arrived at what they were looking for, heads nodded. For some reason after this, the camera man zoomed in on the screen for us all to see that it was a YAHOO website on the screen. |

BEWARE OF NIGERIAN MOVIES WHEN YOU SEE THE FOLLOWING SCENES, BURIALS, WEDDINGS, ESPECIALLY TRADITIONALS, (I saw a movie once with a traditional wedding scene, Oliver de Coque was invited to play as musician. this scene lasted nearly 30mins or more.) CHURCH SERVICE, OR DELIVERANCE PRAYERS, (You better kneel down before your screen and grab a bible else you will be idle). The producers just seem to pitch a camera on a tripod and shoot this scenes all day long. |
Mooretes, I feel like you all the time I set my eyes on most of the Nollywood movies. I don't watch them because they are not "real". At my office canteen, for some reason its on the screen 50% of the time. The fact is 2 to 3 mins into any part of the movie they do something very annoying and i get my eyes off. I wonder if they write and edit the scripts or the actors are just given a description of the scenario and they say what they want to say. I have seen old men acting primary or secondary school boys and same to the ladies. Its like a company and you act your part to get paid at the end of the month.Nolly wood movies should get real and ensure that stories make sense and have the suspense needed in movies. The movies lack intelligence. Most times I wonder what the story is all about. You have a story like "a guy got married to a girl, and she gave birth and wouldn't take care of the kid." that's all and the scenes keep circling around this. Couple married without a kid and man's family want to bring him someone else. And that's it! no flavor, nothing else to the movie just this idea alone. You find a young man with so much money but you cannot figure out what he does for a living in the movie, just his mansion and fleet of cars. The producers feel that every scene should be full of arguments and quarrels to make it interesting, I wonder why that idea. Facial expressions are fake and misplaced. And the actors are the same characters in different movies. same tone of voice, same looks, same behavior, same cloths and haircut, but they are expected to be different lives. They simply don't act characters in different movies but act parts. The real problem is, what we refer to as Nigerian Movie industry is a hijack by individuals who have found them selves doing it and there is probably no competition. I think if they sit down, put all the money together and also think of how to beat piracy, they would do a great job in selling a good product. Other than releasing hundreds of movies just for making a living. I hope Nigerian movies will make us all proud someday like our music is doing today. |

This country will not cease to surprise me any day. After several months the plane is finally found. Usual speculations follow from nairalanders. I hope its actually the plane. I hope the pilots body or any other crew were found too, not only passport-o! or photocopy of passport. If a plane crashed 6months ago it will be clear in the bushes around, broken branches and obvious mutilated vegetation. Lets get an expert to tell us when the passport was made. How often do these hunters hunt in this territory. it must be they visit there 6monthly. What of our TV stations, it must not be CNN, our cameras should go there. At least thisdayonline reports ", as at noon yesterday, the team reported the sighting of two decomposed dead bodies from an aerial picture" Aerial picture is possible at the site after 6months, whow! this brings questions to how sincere and detailed the initial search was. Maybe it was not properly funded, so as naija work also not properly done. In any case this puts to light how incompetent and unserious we are or our agencies are in Nigeria. 6 months later we are still not sure of the truth. Afterall the committee investigating the crash is reported to have submitted to the presidency, stating that it was no longer possible to locate the aircraft. |
This is from my earlier post, And I want to be the first to say this because there is always controversy when ever there is a plan to build refineries, airports or steel plants, everyone wants the site in their community or state. I want the first Nuclear power plant sited in my community so it will provide Jobs to indigenes of my state more than any other and my community will be commited to hosting and protecting such facility that will serve the whole nation. ![]() |
If the police take responsibility to act on any kind of report of criminality without involving the reporter, this girl's case probably would not get so bad. Someone would have lodged a anonymous report on time. this alone makes people handicapped when they notice something wrong. |
78xx series regulators are simple to use, they require little or no additional compos and can handle up to 1A current. the s8050 transistor supports up to 700mA only. I have a bit of concern on your 1kohm resistor and the 9.1V zener diode application in your diagram. Is this a circuit you ahve tested already? If you want more power you may want to build a power cct however that may not fit into a standard car charger enclosure. |
I think a simple fixed or variable voltage regulator should do the job for you. Try the 7808 series if you are sure you need 8v or a 7805 with a resistor set on pin 2 to give you 8v. If your modem doesnt pull more than what it needs you should be fine. |
If its not going on local TV, why should anyone worry about airing BBA in Nigeria when those who have satelite TV can manage what they want to view. |
McBrave, what ISP do you use and what speed are you getting. I am looking at broadband for my home not just for xbox live but I play PS3 and PC games too. I live in PH and will appreciate the info because i don't want to be disappointed after i have secured the connection to find out it not giving me what i expect. ogagusps3 what do you pay on monthly subscription for this starcomms 500kps? |
