Similar thing happens everyday in every city in Nigeria. I have witnessed several policemen in broad daylight descend on a bike rider who somehow did not stop at the right point in traffic, each of the policemen moved in to get their "high" with a kick or punch to the rider, dragging him to the ground before taking him and his bike to their parked van. Its a shame. Why must a Navy officer watch his bodyguards act in this nature if he isnt the same breed? Lawmakers in this country should put a stop to this sort of act by any uniform officer in this country. I guess its news because its a lady who was beaten. Men are brutally dealt with like this daily. |
Well, I guess that on Nairaland a good thread is one that people cannot rest unless they say something. However poster, GOOD as HOW? Talking about % of Nigerian raised childeren then HELL NO!!!!!!!!!! cos of the following reasons, poor EDUCATION HEALTHCARE FEEDING INFORMATION (exposure to proper TV programmes, books, information from parents and guardians or even teachers) RECREATION (No playgrounds or walk and talk, sports etc) etc etc etc Most families and parents do not concentrate on where, how and who their children mix or play with. Most growing children emulate their already arrogant parents, older brothers and sisters or aunts uncles, teachers etc, who will not stop at picking a quarrel or saying bad language at an offending neighbor or stranger in their presence. etc etc etc so poster, before you make me say too too much you need to define what aspect of GOOD you are looking at. cos an average nigerian kid, take from a random sample, is the kid hawking on the street, selling for the mum at the market, trecking to and from school or simply just hanging at a neighbor's window or sitting with mature relatives watching a silly nigerian movie. HOWEVER if you conduct an intensive search you will find some kids JUST LIKE those raised in yankee. |
ha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha oh my God!!! This is a joke right? |
Trying my hands on PS3 online games. GTA4, Need for speed Pro street, Sega Rally revo, Motor storm, Medal of honor airborne, resistance-fall of man etc I upgraded my PS3 firmware to 2.5 (successfully). Registered with PLAYSTATION NETWORK. Updated GTA4 files on my PS3 with a 20MB download(took bout 30mins to download) Tried to get on GTA4 online couldnt join any server. No servers on Sega rally revo. Need for speed Pro street requires I download a 770MB file to my PS3 to play online. This is a lot of work before I can enjoy the games. Still have to try!!! |
Do Nigerians really do all these? RACING MOUNTAIN CLIMBING WALK AT THE PARK BOAT RIDE PICNIC abeg where? Anyway in Port Harcourt, certain things are not possible. RACING- you will end up killing an okada rider or be thrown off the road when you ram into the next pot-hole. MOUNTAIN CLIMBING- simple, No mountains! WALK AT THE PARK- You most likely will end up loosing you phone in the process or all personal belongings on you, kidnapping is possible. BOAT RIDE - You will definitely be over run by sea pirates or be caught in cross fire between JTF and militants if not taken for a militant yourself. PICNIC - You will be kidnapped. So make the ransom money available to family members before you proceed on the picnic. |

@osites I didnt know about the GTA4 for PC until i read your reply. That sounds great and I will sure be looking out for it maybe by end of this year, it should be out November. But the required system specs are quite high which is usually the killer for PC gamers, though it all sounds interesting on PC as GTA4 is planned to have an expanded multiplayer component, improved graphics, and a gameplay clip editing suite when it hits the PC in November. The recommended specs are as follows: * OS: Windows XP SP2 * Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better) * RAM: 2GB * Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space * Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader * Drive: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive but I have GTA4 on PS3, and its not first person which makes keyboard and mouse play slightly out of place for me. I am looking out for FARCRY2, Crytek has done an impressive job on FARCRY1 and the 2 version is a must have game since its first person. I love first person games. |
Is there anyone from Ekiti here on nairaland. Can we see a photo of the plates and spoons so we can verify the concerns of the parents? I think the parents will not complain about juju if they are paid the equivalent of two meals a day monthly per child to enable them feed their children well at home. And the govt will get twice as much commendation for this. |
I WILL DEFINITELY REVISIT THIS POST WHEN I HAVE MUCH TIME. ITS A SHAME FOR THE POLICE BECAUSE YOU SEE THEM GO INTO ALL SORTS OF THINGS JUST FOR MONEY. IN PHC THE POLICE ARREST PEOPLE FROM 8PM FOR WANDERING JUST BECAUSE "SOMETHING GO DROP AT THE END". THEY STOP EVERY TAXI IN FRONT OF THEIR STATIONS FROM 7PM FOR THE SAME REASON. tHE ONLY REASON WHY THEY GO AFTER OKADA AFTER 6PM IS FOR THE SAME REASON. HOWEVER SOME PEOPLE GIVE GLADLY, IF YOU HAVE COS LATE AT NIGHT, IF YOU DRIVE AN EXPENSIVE CAR ON A LONELY ROAD YOU WILL BE HAPPY TO SEE POLICE INSTEAD OF MILITANTS. BUT ITS JUST TOO MUCH. I THINK THE FORCE NEEDS TO BE REFORMED. BETTER ORIENTATION, BENEFITS, AND WELFARE MAY HELP REDUCE THE TREND. I NO SURE SHA! |

I think I must say that the FRSC isnt doing enough to ensure road safety in Nigeria. CURRENT TASKS/ ACTIVITY OF THE FRSC -Provide drivers licences and Vehicle registrations -randomly check Compliance to vehicle safety gadgets -Fire extinghuishers -Caution signs -Spare tyre -Jacks -Brake lights -Turn indicators -Use of seatbelts My rating of these tasks contribution to road safety is about 20% My suggestion FRSC should be empowered by law at the national/ state level to 1. Seal-off (declaring a state of emergency) highways or roads duely considered as unsafe for use, in terms of their surface condition, security and terrain, thereby compelling govt to fix these concerns immediately once this is done either by repair, patrol or night lighting. 2. Maintain presence in road junctions and heavy traffic areas to ensure compliance to road traffic rules. 3. Advice and enforce govts to site markets and bus stops at areas that do not constitue a nuisance to traffic flow. 4. Enforce parking and stopping rules within the city and highways to decrerase traffic congestion and accidents. 5. General light and heavy vehicle road worthiness certification and legal impoundment of scrap vehicles on our roads. 6. Maintaining FRSC outposts and camps with Emergeny and rescue support (Ambulance, Tow van, metal cutting and lifting equipment etc) on our highways. 7. Maintaining night patrols within the cities and highways to check night driving, social influences to driving behaviour, overloading and undesired behaviour of commercial vehicle operators. 8. Direct support by police or integration into the Nigerian police force traffic unit to ensure prompt arrest and prosecution of defaulters of traffic rules. 9. On the scene education and enlightenment/ Testing of traffic rule defaulters and support, training and rehabilitation of offenders of traffic rules to ensure better community of road users. 10. making the highway code available to all motorists and riders and carrying same in their vehicles at all time. 11. Enforcing federal and state govts to develope unsafe terrains to improve visibility for drivers especially where its caused by bushes or trees and installing road signs at relevant points on our roads and highways. OR NAIRALANERS, WHAT DO YOU THINK? |
We can only say the movie industry is young and experiencing "teething problems" when there is a serious effort by all involved to make good movies and eventually it doesnt turn out so good. Technology is one of the most important things today in making good movies. The equipment, the set and editing software etc, all add to the ability to produce a good movie. Even adding computer generated images. I have been in a small movie village in Mumbai, India sometime and I had the opportunity to see a movie being made. I believed if a fly went past the camera it would be part of the script. They were repeating one part over and over, there was a market place put together just for this movie a train station with two coaches with handles that allowed them to be rocked to imitate the train behaviour on the rail, flashing lights manually operated to look like the train was moving past light posts. It looked pretty easy especially when you realise that these were not real coaches nor real rails, but just fabricated for this purpose and repainted or relocated to fit any movie. Nigerian movie companies should begin to think of putting some life in movie production. acquire some acers of land in one of those villages we make our movies and begin to set up movie style villages. This takes some time but will go a long way in making our next generation movies better. After a while we will no longer need to come out to open streets to make movies where we cannot stop the public from hanging around to watch. Some things can be made just for movie purposes when you have the determination, and with this other support talents will be discovered, like stunt men, stunt drivers, special movie technicians etc. I specifically would like to develope special effects for the movie industry. For instance in a high tech communications center, all of the flashing light panels and screens are just dummies made for that purpose. People will be willing to invest in all kinds of things the movie industry might need. We cant talk of teething problems when movies starts from crappy storyline and no talent displayed by the characters. A movie with a good storyline may turn out very yukky if all characters say their parts as if read from the pages of a book they've seen for the first time. The Nigerian music industry is good today cos its backed up with a lot of technology and good talent. A bit of innovation could make a lot of difference in our movie industry. |
@samosward If you are in PH I can give you NFSMW on a DVD with some enabling dll files. It will run on your PC. I have the original NFSMW but seems one of my discs are corrupt. I don't believe those computer village games work. Every copy I have bought ended up with a bad issue. I always buy my PC games outside Nigeria. However I am not a soccer fan and its probably the only game I cannot play. I wonder if there are prefered starters or deserts of Nigerian origin for our meals. Everytime you order a Nigerian meal in a Hotel or restaurant, what you ask is all you get. What kind of starters and deserts can we have for instance with a Dry Fish, Vegetable soup and pounded yam? Ekpang Nkukwo of Akwa Ibom/ Cross River origin. etc |
I always wonder each time i compare nigerian meals to foreign ones, if we can ever make our dishes more presentable or appetising than they usually look on the plate. Regular Nigerian dishes are not garnished with anything, just the way they are dished from the pot after cooking. Our sauces made for things like snails or meat are not dressed with anything or I am not aware. Is it possible to do this for Nigerian dishes or is it completely out of place? |

michelin89 Are you saying mobile phones used by children shouldn't be checked at all? From what age do you think this should apply? I agree they will see the unknown / fascinating things someday whether parents like it or not. When children start saving these materials in their phones, I think that calls for concern. |
