The key to marrying more than one wife and keeping the entire family together is largely the attitude of the first wife. I was at an occasion yesterday where the man had three wives, with children from all three marriages, and most of the children were already grown. Yet, the relationship between everyone was genuinely good and cooperative. The first wife welcomed the other wives when the man played away matches and in return they all respected her and looked up to her. Yesterday honestly gave me some ideas.
Hmmmm

My brother. I wish I could type a life story here.

I really wish I could

You realise if you rent at even 500k, people will pay immediately for it right?
Is LASG doing this to make money right now or to solve a serious problem?
Or should all government solutions be geared towards profitability?
There is a market for affordable housing if the barrier of entry is low. Only LASG can provide that at large scale.
Pardon my local economics, but let's look at it this way

Google says it costs 12 million to build self con in Lagos.

As a governor, how much will you budget for building selfcons?.

Total FAAC allocation to Lagos in 2025 = 500 billion. If the government uses 100 billion to build selfcons ( doesn't make sense), they will build 8000 units in one year

The 100k earner paying 400k a year will use 30 years to pay 12 million naira back.

My brother in the Lord, how this thing go take work?

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:59pm On Aug 22
liveLongNprospa:
Why must they sell the units?
Why not rent those units out? Is there any law stopping them from doing that?
These are things LASG can actually explore. The idea is to crash the price of rent or stop the increase.
Would you admit LASG has not done even close to anything reasonable to solve this issue?
Okay, let's assume they rent. Do you think that with the cost of materials today, a brand new self con will go for 400k a year (40% of a 100k salary earner's earnings)?

You know it's not possible.

And yes, I agree that the government has not done reasonably enough, and this lapse is showing because there's a serious shortfall of private investors

Transportation and logistics in Lagos is a little better and seamless because there's Uber, Bolt, and delivery bikes. All these are product of individuals jumping in. Remove Bolt and Uber and Delivery bikes. How would Lagos be?

People are buying lands to build Terrace duplexes at 500 million. Scroll on IG. Nobody is building self con or one bedroom that is affordable. The rest are advising us on mutual funds and stocks; Telling us to invest 100 million on Dangote refinery

So we are left with the government building theirs or paying exorbitantly for rubbish.

So yes, I agree that enough isn't done, but maybe it is heavily felt because private investors are scarce

Then he's not smart enough to understand the implication of that question.
And I can't answer that question. But if Lagos state builds even more housing units and actually spends money that they waste and steal on projects like housing (again), it will drive down the price or atleast give more options to youths.

Lagos state cannot say there's no money to build atleast 200k units of selfcon year on year.

After all how much sanwo Olu babe use buy jewelry?
So, while agree with you, I still believe that it wouldn't be affordable for a 100k salary earner.

Let's assume that the government wades in to build. The cost to build would still remain the same. The project wouldn't be cheaper to build because LASG is the financier

So even reselling at a 1% profit won't make it cheaper for a 100k salary earner.

Do you agree with this?

The point I was making is that is exactly what is happening in the US right now. There is a global economic downturn and young people are either doing flatmate arrangement or staying back home with their parents

It is not a hidden thing so it is surprising that he is knocking what is happening all around him

Reducing rent in Lagos is a non starter

1) high demand
2) yahoo boys have driven up rent costs everywhere

Metroline from alakija to marina is up. If there can be a metroline into ogunnstate and into ibadan it Will reduce pressure and demand.

I took the metro to marina the other day. 1k okada to the station. 750 train trip. Took me all of 40 minutes. 15 years ago it would have taken me two hours plus by bus.

A working metro connecting other cities to Lagos is a start.
If you connect a rail to every street in Lagos, it won't change much over time.

The population will only spread to those growing areas, and with time, a plot of land in Ayobo will become 80 million.

Development needs to spread to other states. Lagos is choked to the core.

No number of metroline and anything will keep this problem at bay

The question is highlighting the problem of astronomical rent prices for basic housing options
I am sure if they asked him this, he wouldn't say people should live with their parents.

What exactly do you propose for the housing challenges in Lagos?

Because for me, we are left with few options, and the population keeps increasing.

The issue is the rent being 1m.
You are supposed to be able to afford a selfcon on a 100k salary.

Your goal as a governor is giving us solutions on how to counter the high cost of rent in Lagos state and not tell me or every other young person the reality they already are forced to live as a solution.

2017, a selfcon in Gbagada was 200k or less if you enter the bariga side. If you worked in Ikeja Electric and earned 120k as a starter, you could comfortably pay that rent then.
By 2022 it was around 400k.
Now it's like he said 1m.

What is the plan to reduce or stop the steady increase of rent?
Whats the plan to make the state for more attractive to companies that can pay salaries for people to afford cheap housing.
After all they as government of Lagos state have joined Tinubu to claim the economy is stabilized
Go back and listen to the interview again

That was the question.

He wasn't asked what are his plans to reduce rent.
He wasn't asked any of all these stuffs you wrote there.

The question is simple
"How can someone earning 100k pay a rent of 1 million in Lagos?"

How exactly is that answer a bad one?

I'm not defending his policies or whether Sanwo-Olu is more brilliant. His answer was right and compassionate.

Ironic that you live in the West and have somehow missed the exact same trend happening all around you.
The question was .....
"How does someone earning 100,000 a month, afford a rent of 1 million in Lagos?"

I think Hamzat answered well. There's no need for a 100k who's gross is 1.2 million a year, to go and rent an apartment of 1 million

He also stressed that if you're single, try staying with a relative or parent so you can save.

I wonder how this is a bad response..

Let me guess , you think it’s an African/Nigerian thing right ?

Have u ever worked with Asians particularly Indians ? An Indian will call address a senior colleague , an elderly person or anybody they respect with the suffix “Ji” behind that person’s name as a sign of respect . When you hear an Indian say “Rahul Ji “ , he is simply saying “Rahul sir “. They are so big on respect that they they won’t even call their MD or CEO by their title alone , they would say “ MD sir “ or “CEO sir “.

Whether u speak indigenous language or English language , you can always be respectful and courteous ; it won’t take a thing from you to do so .
Nigerians will trample upon anything about their culture like it's a burden.

The same people trolling Tony for copying a white man's greeting, may probably have their own culture, prostrating, bowing, doing frog jump, etc to greet the elderly.

I've worked in numerous corporate organizations. And this is the norm. First name basis. In one of my former organizations, because the MD sir was too much, the MD adopted to be called by the initials of his full name and that was enforced.

Make no mistakes, I'm not even comfortable with calling someone who is 5 years older than me by name. Not because of respect per say, but because of the way we were brought up. But that doesn't equate to respect. If that person tells you to do something, will you do it?

Title means nothing.
Can you tell me any of our local cultures that permits calling an elder by his first name?
