@ Ruudie,

79 won't and can never get the title this year.
A good team should be thinking of the 90 point-mark.
All these smaller teams are putting up stiff resistance cos the season is new and everyone is enthusiastic.
You will know who is who when winter comes. Frozen pitches, cold sweats and harsh conditions.
This is when Ferguson turns the screw and play his cards.
The season is far from over.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 6:20pm On Aug 17, 2007
@ Debosky,

At last . . . . . .Someone sees ma point.
A good team needs to have every kinda player to satisfy all the attacking options possible to win matches.
Check out AC Milan . . . . . . They got Kaka and Gilardino who can build and create from outside the box and score.
But sometimes, that method dont work . . . . . .Good interplay but the finishing is just lacking(United's problem).
This is where u need predators like RVN and INZAGHI or ETOO to get the job done for ya.
Players that pride emselves from defender's silly mistakes, goalkeeping errors and little details people dont even notice.
A good team needs a blend of the 2 to be double-sure.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 5:39pm On Aug 17, 2007
@ J-K,

RVN just scored a goal now for Real Madrid in a pre-season game.
Match tied at 1-1, 73rd minute.
Saviola has been there running and trying to to score but he cldn't because he is like TEVEZ and ROONEY.

RVN stepped in . . . . . . .a corner-kick flicked and RUUD was the 1st to latch on the loose ball.
He nodded the ball into the net with so much venom and his goal instincts in knowing where the ball would land for him is just exquisite.
In all honesty . . . . . . .RUUD is the god of goals. His intro has just won the match for Madrid.
Lil' wonder he has been recalled back by his national side after nearly a year.
He keeps proving his critics wrong time n time again.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 4:57pm On Aug 17, 2007
@ J-K,

I will have to go with a striker that creates his goals, scores tap-ins and help build an attack.
But, SAHA is none of this so dont even beat the drums of victory yet.
SAHA has no goal sense and he is not clinical.
Louis will blast his shots against the goalie 9 times out of 10. Saha does not place a goalie and put the ball where its most difficult for the keeper to catch.
The nigga just uses raw power and shoot . . . .if it gets in then its IN.

@ Debosky,

I am not oscillating.
Time and time again, i prefer a target man. Thats the way things are done.
A Luiz Ronaldo, Careca, Batistuta, Yekini, Weah. An out n out striker that sends shivers to the spine of the likes of Terry and Toure.
But, rather than have SAHA who would soon go back and face the surgeon's knife . . . . i'd rather have TEVEZ.
Tevez will lay 34-35 games a season with the way he is built like a GERMAN TANK.
SAHA can keep his out n out striker qualities cos he cannot be fit for more than 10 games a season.
I'd rather have TEVEZ than SAHA if Man Utd will not land a target man . . . . . . .  .That has always been ma wish.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 4:16pm On Aug 17, 2007
@ J-K & Ruudie,

U dont need to tell me the stats of last season.
20 different outfield players scored last season for Man Utd but we CANNOT ride on that luck again this season.
Ronaldo and Rooney are target men to be riled or hacked down to injuries.
Sometimes the cutting edge of a poacher wins a match.
Only God knows the impact a RVN would have done in the last 2 matches and yet u expect everyone to score their fair share again this season.
It worked before does not mean it will work again.

United should diversify how they break teams down.
Ferguson has got an avalanche of talents but unfortunately none of them is a fox in the box.
A player that will be the 1st to react to a rebound . . . . .a striker that will evade the offside trap and just nick goals outta nuthing.
RVN kinda player . . . .Target man when things go awkward and u need to throw long balls in the box.
Would Rooney/Tevez outjump Carvalho or Toure to nod in a goal?
Y'all guys should forget about last season . . . . .A master-stroke from the Gaffer no doubt but i dont wanna rely on Ronaldo to deliver 23+ goals again this season. It will be asking too much from the young lad.
Chelsea depends on Superdrog to deliver . . . . . . . . Liverpool depends on Torres and Even Arsenal are trusting Eduardo.
Who do we have? SAHA. A national deception!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase, i'd rather have Henrik Larsson back. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

@Banderas,

He wasn't taken back then cos he had no deficiencies.
How many clubs buy 11-yr olds?
Man Utd's 9 year-old Rhain Davies is still generating ripples at Manchester cos kids sometimes impress to deceive.
Messi's ailment prompted Barcelona to move in and TAKE ADVANTAGE of the situation.
His going to Barca has nothing to do with his skills? What skills does a child with growth problems got?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 1:22pm On Aug 17, 2007
@ Banderas,

Strength in depth is the ability of a team to draft one or 2 fringe players to cover up and effectively replace a 1st team member.
Judging from the number of Man Utd players that are crocked . . . . .Its a miracle how they still manage to outplay teams but scoring has been the problem because there's no target man as a centre-forward.(This is why i wanted Huntelaar + Torres).
RUUDIE, i warned u then . . . . .its 2 weeks and ma prediction is coming to pass.

However I don’t think that Tevez can really play at that traditional centre forward position
He is more a roaming forward who is most effective playing in the area between the opposing defence and their midfield. More like Rooney.
Ferguson has got two similar players there and he will have to work out a formation if he intends to play them together.
But one thing is for sure Tevez will add a tremendous amount of flexibility in terms of playing formations. And indeed as high quality cover.
Man Utd have goal sources from all over the pitch but I still think that they really need another tall and strong front target man.
I would not therefore rule out another surprise signing from Alex Ferguson (especially in the January window if events demand it).
If this happens then Man Utd will have the most potent forward line in the Premiership without a doubt.

Nani and Anderson are too young and inexperienced (especially in the Premiership) but they will make an impact this season. They are very skillful but they look  a little bit overpriced to me. Who isn't these days? SWP is £21 mill. Daniel Alves is pushing for £25 mill.
Nevertheless what they will add to the squad this season will be cover especially in the Cup games.
This will allow other important players very valuable rest and at the same time reduce the chances for the occurrence of injuries from too many games.
The addition of all these players will indeed add strength in depth which will prove extremely valuable come the latter and most significant stages of the football calendar.
Something which was so evidently missing last season.
Predicting that Manchester United will be there at the end is obvious but will they win it again? They look pretty strong to me(IF ALL CROCKED PLAYERS STAY FIT) and this is why i think most heads(KIT, LOYIKA, DEBOSKY and JACKMODU) on Nairaland are SCARED SHITLESS.

P.S.
You also claim Tevez wasn't discovered early because he wasn't as good as Messi. Thats the biggest goof  i have heard from Mr Banderas.
C'mon . . . . . . .Messi joined Barcelona at the age of 11. He had a growth hormone deficiency and his local club in Argentina couldnt pay for his bills.
Barca was alerted and they offered to pay his medical bills if he's willing to start a new life with his parents in SPAIN.
That was how Messi came to Europe and that is simply a stroke of fate so don't compare him to Tevez in that respect
.

@ Banderas,

You will start seeing Tevez's magic in the coming months.
How i wish he is starting with a striking partner so he can always drop off and cause damage.
His combo with Bobby Zamora(a mediocre player) last season was immense and he single-handedly dragged West Ham out of relegation.
Let it be known . . . . . . .I have known Carlitos since 2004 when he represented Argentina @ the OLYMPICS.
If he had been playing in a big European club early, he would have been more developed and exposed than the likes of Messi and co.
TEVEZ is class and he is marginally better than Wayne Rooney.
You have not seen 10% of this guy's ability at all because he was playing in a shitty team last season and has just joined a quality team.
Becoming the South American player of the year for 3 consecutive seasons is no joke.
If i were u . . . . ,   i would watch out for him against your club.
Carlitos is UNPLAYABLE . . . . . . . . .Better to play with him than against him.

ASSOCIATION OF PESSIMISTS.

Tevez will not SHINE this season.
Anderson and NANI will also struggle and reh, reh, reh . . . . . . . . .Thats a bag of bollocks.

2 of the players mentioned here have shone already.
Did any of y'all rival fans watch the game during the mid-week at all?
Ohhhhhhhhhhh , . . . . . . . . .Now i get it, many soccer heads cannot watch games because of the DSTV/HITV impasse.
It has condemned pundits like Loyika, Somze and Dr. KIT to beer-parlour gists and newsagents loose talks.
I saw TEVEZ for 90 minutes during the midweek and he was the best player bar SCHOLESY on the pitch.
NANI has already justified his price-tag and he is fast becoming a cult-hero. Anutha dozen virtuoso performance from him this season should see him as favourites to win United's player of the year.

Retaining the title? Its a function of many variables as mathematicians will say it.
I must admit, this is not the best of start for Man Utd but it could prove harmless if Man Utd main rivals also stutter like Man United have done.
Check this . . . . . . .When Chelsea mounted a serious challenge last season after the defeat at Anfield, everyone including maself thought(for a day) United might slip and fall apart.
However, when United slipped at Pompey . . . . . .Chelsea also failed to win at St. James's park.
United were also held by Boro at OT and Chelsea drew with Everton, Bolton, Arsenal and Man Utd.

In other words . . . . . . . . .United are still favourites as long as CHELSEA slips up as well.
I will only write off United if Chelsea wins the next 8 games and United fails to match Chelsea's results.
Its a function of many variables but the odds are seriously stacking up against Man Utd
Arsenal and Liverpool will be close to the BIG 2 but i doubt they have the clout to match their strength in depth.
The only cup available to Arsenal/Liverpool is the Carling Cup and that is if Jose Mourinho doesnt roll out his senior team to fight for it. grin grin grin grin

@ Debosky,

The whole stuffs is fuckery but i cannot really blame these TV companies. The FA are the plonkers.
SKY paid £1.3billion to the FA to show 92 live premier league games and other football competitions this season.
SETANTA paid £392 million to show 46 LIVE premiership matches as well . . . . . .
In total, SKY paid £5billion for the coverage of all sporting competition throughout the season.
It makes u wonder how Sports now became Hollywood . . . . . .The FA made so much money from this TV deals they decided to give football clubs in the premier leagues enough funds for them to mount serious challenges in the Premiership.

You cannot really blame the TV companies because how would they break even with the amount of money these TV rights are being bought.
They keep arguing if they show more matches on TV the stadium will remain empty and that will take the English football tradition away.
Traditions? When u break this down its the fans like You & I (soccer addicts) that bear the brunt.
You want to watch all 'em matches, buy football shirts and other merchandises, season tickets, membership cards u must renew every season and matchday programme magazines delivered to your doorstep every match day.
On top of it all, My club will buy a player like SAHA who would be on the bench for 7 months and play for just 2 months when part of my hard -earned income pays his wages. You gotta feel ma anger for 'em good-for-nothing players like Louis.
Ferguson must either use him after the internationals or sell him . . . . . . .enough is enough for lazy players.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 9:37pm On Aug 16, 2007
@ Debosky,

The monopoly shizzy is not only in Nigeria, it has affected UK viewers as well but u have to be one step ahead of these blood-sucking TV companies.
There are 380 premiership games in a season. SKY SPORTS normally show 88 live games and 50 games on anutha PPV(Pay-Per-View) channel which is £50 for a season if u pay early or if u want to buy per match . . . .Its £7.

After last season, they scrapped PREM PLUS because of SKY's alleged monopoly and Sentanta sports joined the frame.
This season, SKYSPORTS will show 92 LIVE Premier league games and SETANTA will show just 46 games LIVE.
Most of the mouth-watering head to head games were awarded to SKYSPORTS and Sentanta were left with scraps and some little bit of Champions league games. I watched Arsenal's game of yesterday on Sentanta and its £10 a month(Buncha tweeks).

Unless u are a soccer-maniac like me . . . . .You don't really need Sentanta but i cannot bear not watching Man Utd play so that made me join Sentanta Sports channel. Then we have another dodgy company who sets up mini-dish satellites at the back of the gardens for us.
Council workers are clamping on em these days because it means 2 mini-dishes(INCLUDING SKY'S) on your wall and they think its GROTESQUE.
These peops have no registered  companies so they can't be traced but u get to watch all the 380 games in the Premiership as long as u can bear Indian and Afghanistan commentaries. You get to watch any match which are sometimes transmitted from any TV station be it HELL TV.
That works as a one time payment of between £200-£300 and its urs till RAPTURE. I have been with em for 18 months and they always deliver although i can't stand the language but they don't show any stupid commercial ads. You watch the players march from the tunnel to the kick-off unlike SKY who doesnt show all those bits to us.

In all . . . . . it depends on the size of your pockets . . . . I love football and i try to watch every Man Utd match on TV be it the Youth, Reserves or the Senior members.
Setanta Online . . . . . .I guess they will be streaming the live feed of the Setanta sports TV so u get to watch extra matches every saturday.
I have seen their match fixtures and most of em are crap. You will never get to watch a head to head game like the one on sunday on Setanta sports but they will come good during the Champions league.
I would advice u to buy anything buyable to watch your darling team. No amount is too much for me to watch the RED DEVILS.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

40% of the gunners i know jumped boat when Jose Mourinho arrived at Chelsea.
Majority of the Chelski fans(NIGERIANS) were all Gunners just 4 years ago so it makes u wonder where their loyalty lies.

Your erections on Man Utd seems to be getting stronger and bigger.
Who have u become attached to? Tevez or Nani?
Blackburn is away in Europe right now and they are battering a team.
Santa Cruz will be deadly for u guys . . . . . . . . Bill and Toure will have to be extra careful.
Predictions: Blackburn 1-0 Arsenal.

@ Rikky,

I wld have Loyika for dinner.
Spice it up with chilli and ring onions and wash it down with a red wine.
Everyone will have a bad patch . . . . . .It may be a blessing that ours is happening early.

@ Loyika,

Don't get me wrong . . . . . . enjoy yourself while it lasts because i wont spare any team that falters.
ARSENAL, CHELSEA OR LIVERPOOL will feel ma wrath should any of em stutter in the coming weeks.
You have the right to GLOAT, POKE FUN and SHIT on Man Utd now.

Meanwhile, i think its very appaling that HiTV and DSTV are really making u guys sweat.
I am not willing to come to Lagos this Xmas after this fuckery. How would i enjoy the Christmas if i don't watch Prem games.
These games are addictive and the standard is getting better. I watched like 5 matches at the same time last night.
Was keeping tabs on the United youths in the Championships. No one mentioned it here that Arsenal and Chelsea all failed to qualify from theor groups and United is playing Flamengoes of Brazil in the Semi's this week.

Arsenal's game too was on Setanta sports and i didnt want to miss it.
The only premiership game on SKY was Wigan V Boro(boring and insignificant).
Ma Dodgy Satellite dish is the main event as it shows all Prem games but its in French/Arabic and Cantonese commentaries.
Its difficult tp follow a football game without the right language. You should listen to how those guys pronounce Benjani's surname. grin grin grin grin
Shit was so funny.

Leave Somze alone.
He understands everything . . . . . .he just doesnt follow ur line about United losing the title in August. grin grin
Somze knows we carry a huge threat when every player comes back by October. tongue

@ Loyika,

Stop tormenting us on this thread.
What is it u want with us? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Man Utd has drawn its 1st 2 games and thats the news everyone on NL sports wanna hear.
Its all good. . . . . . .I will rub it in y'all faces when we get cured of the DRAWTILITIES syndrome passed to us since we visited the Bridge last season.

@ Rikkyjen,

Fergie changes things around but sometimes u still need luck and the discipline of ur players to make things work.
Mourinho is a tactician . . . . . .but his plans do back-fire sometimes.
Lemme cast ur mind back to the FA cup Q-finals against Newcastle. Jose was losing 1-0 to Kluivert's goal and he brought in 3 players at half-time.
He will forever regret that decision till this day cos if Newcastle were Arsenal or Man Utd that day . . . . .He would have suffered his biggest defeat here in England.

Are u gonna tell me Ferguson didnt change things around against the Toffees last season OR against Blackburn at OT?
Sometimes the manager make changes but its down to the team to be patient and be disciplined to carry the tasks out as pencilled.
What Mourinho and Rafa has now more than Fergie is a good bench. That is where we should be looking at.
While Mourinho could draft in Mikel Obi and Pizarro to change things yesterday . . . .Fergie had Eagles and O'Shea on his bench.
Solskjaer, JS Park or misfit SAHA coming from the bench last night would have made the difference.

@ Rikkyjen,

Thank U very much.
Pls add to it that any die-hard fan will say United's winning streak starts in the winter.
In 2005/06 season, Chelsea was leading United with 17 points in December. . . . .By April, the lead was cut down to 7 points and it was Sunderland that put holes in United's title challenge before Mourinho rammed United by 3-0 @ the Bridge.

@ A-40,

Gabriel Heinze was a HIT at Man Utd by any standard.
He was the best left back in the country in his debut season.
Juan Veron and Forlan weren't flops as well. . . . . . .They did not stay so long to prove themselves at Man United.
If Didier Drogba had left just after his 2nd season . . . . .Who woulda thunk he wld smash 33 goals in one season.
Even Mourinho himself wouldn't stake his wages on it. Some players are slow starters while some make immediate impact.
I have seen TEVEZ with West Ham and bwoy, Apache has got qualities.
He is a prophet and he will blaze this league if what i saw last night is anything to go by.

@ Doyin13,

Mr Amistad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
U are now a United member for 30 days.
I decoded u within nanoseconds. grin grin
Le Chacal's intelligence vault is the size of Texas.

Back to footie,

I think Tevez is better than Rooney.
It doesnt say Rooney is crap but Tevez being a South American is made for football.
Ball control and Stealth is an in-born trait to all Latinos and trust me, hype has done a little for Wazza to make him look good.
Did u watch the game last night? His midget movement caused ruckus in Pompey's defence and Steve Benett didnt protect Apache at all last night.
The coming months will prove ma theory, so lets cross em fingers.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 2:00pm On Aug 16, 2007
@ A-40,

I refuse to agree with that statement.
Tevez is a better player than Rooney.
Carlitos edges it with his trickery . . . . .Wazza is too direct and his all round game is powerplay and sometimes grit and speed.
Tevez is treacherous and his all-round football edges Wazza's football brain.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Jackal(m): 1:53pm On Aug 16, 2007
@ Loyika,

Exactly ma point.
United is not where they are expecting to be but is this a new experience to Ferguson?
A manager that has been @ Man Utd for 21 odd years must have found himself in every muddy position there is.
That was the adavantage he had over Mourinho last season.
Even when United stuttered towards the end by losing to Pompey and some couple of draws . . . . .Mourinho couldnt capitalise because it was his 1st time of finding himself in the chasing position.

Secondly, we play before the head to head game on Sunday.
Man Utd plays Man City at 1.30pm and Chelsea plays by 4pm according to SKYSPORTS so stop believing in Myles Palmer and all those gunnerblogs.
It doesnt even matter who plays first at this stage as Ferguson knows the importance of this derby games.
United will never moan about not having Rooney and Ronaldo for the cruchy tie as Ferguson in his mind believes no matter the team he rolls out, they are good enough to beat anyone.
Those are the reasons why u would see Chris Eagles and Lee Martin on the United bench and Anderson, Saha and Solskjaer would be on the stands smiling.

City playing at home will make it sweet for us.
They would play the way we liked teams to play us. THEY WILL COME AT UNITED.
I don't think a manager like Eriksson would want to play defensive in front of the home crowd so it suits United.
The only snag is how the newbies will discipline themselves and give a virtuoso performance.
If Tevez, Nani and Anderson can keep em head down . . . . . .I am confident United will snatch a victory!!!!!!!!
