ogascomax: No Christian should fight science, I don't fight science. God created science and gave men wisdom even in the Bible days to create things. Scripture speaks of three kinds of knowledge and scientific knowledge is one of them. We need science in this last days to advance our work and our Gospel. But when science contradict the one who created it then will need to set that science right or correct that science. Like I said they are questions about evolution and the big bang theory that they could not answer but the answer is in God. Because nothing can exist without nothing. So one question is where did life come from. You cannot prove to me that things just begun to exist? What is the history of existence? Theories were built around to many scientific assumption. The fact that science could come up with some stories of evolution does not make evolution true or the big bang. 1.How can the creation of an all powerful and all knowing god contradict it's creator? So this god created science knowing it would contradict and mislead it's people? 2. There is proof of dinos, human tail etc which negates what is in the bible. So are you saying god creates science which is proving him a liar? 3. What are the questions about evolution? Just so you know, there's plenty evidence of evolution. We are evolving. Every other animal is evolving. There are organs in the human body that are completely useless like the appendix etc. They point to earlier use which is now useless due to our current die since we have evolved. Same with the human tail, which again evidence exists. 4. Yes,science cannot categorically state how we started to exist but instead of cooking up stories,it is investigating and researching. Religion is inserting a god into this knowledge gap. Are you aware that your version of the creation story is one in a thousand others(which are almost the same). So how do we know your particular story is legit. Do you know people inserted their god into previous the knowledge gap we had about floods, lightning etc. But currently we know how they exist |

Dreambeat: There is what we call autonomy in medical practice. You can only transfuse blood in this case if it's an emergency AND the person doesn't have what we call capacity to accept or decline treatment. Even with this, you have the family to contend with. It is not a that straight forward decision by medical personels. It is easier to transfuse if it was a minor in an emergency. Truth is, you cannot transfuse even if it's an emergency and the patient is conscious and has compos mentis (capacity), a doctor can't transfuse if he declines |

Dtruthspeaker: In your God hatism you obviously do not real eyes that you are looking at from the wrong end.
The question is on why people who need professional help go to pastor instead of the professional?
And my own answer is that they goers know that their problem is not medical and all. Especially as we all know that if they have a little headache they have already gone medical. So for them to abandon medicines to go and see pastor babalawo already tells you that they know it is not medical. That is all I said.
Nowhere did I say that the pastor would solve their problems which is where you are attacking coming from. So you have miss fired. So you see how atheism makes you make silly and unnecessary errors? And how do they know the headache isn't medical? So if a doctor cannot manage your headache, you automatically assume it's beyond medicine? Ever heard of tiers in healthcare? The many cases that people assume are beyond medical help are cases that have been referred. For example in the case of the headache you talked about the GP may have referred to a neurologist, and the daffftt patient assumed it's beyond medicine |

steadygo: Lol. You are sending your own people to death over religious ideas that even the bringers have progressed beyond. Have some shame. Why can a pastor not give help where his capacity is and allow a medical professional to do the same? What does a pastor with little to no medical knowledge know about diagnosing advanced illnesses? It's a shame what religion has done to our society, instead of celebrating and seeking for advances in medicine, we celebrate the ill-advice of pastors. Why can a humble and considerate pastor not bring himself to say he does not know and he's church member should meet a medical professional, does the 10 commandments not teach "Thou shall not bear false witness"? The funny thing is that those pastors seek quality healthcare when sick. I know one popular Port Harcourt pastor(he's yoruba) who was hypertensive, diabetic with dyslipidemia. This man comes to our clinic before he goes for his shouting match on Sundays to 'heal the sick'. His folder is very thick. He's dead now |

Flipmac: Yesterday I had sex with my partner. After a few hours, I started feeling a burning/cooling sensation around my penis and scrotum. No itching or discharge. The only thing I feel is the burning sensation.
What I can best describe the sensation is like rubbing Dustin powder or pepper around one's private part.
I am feeling like this could be an STD from my partner. But I don't wanna make any accusations without being sure.
It's been over 24 hours now and I'm still feeling the burning sensation.
Has anyone experienced something like this? What could it possibly be? It's not STD. There is usually an incubation period of days before symptoms manifest. What it could be is micro abrasions from the sexual activity, which may be rough. U can use emollient or just ignore it cos your mind would play tricks on you |

Akinpedia: Haba, Oga! With all due respect, this is exactly the kind of 'spiritual illiteracy' I was talking about.
The 'Virgin' Claim: Are you saying that every woman who has ever given birth to a child with a congenital heart defect, Sickle Cell (SS), or Down Syndrome was 'promiscuous'? This is a heavy insult to millions of virtuous, hardworking Nigerian mothers who are battling medical challenges they didn't ask for.
Genetics vs. Spirituality: Sickle Cell isn't caused by 'sin'; it’s caused by AS meeting AS, or AC meeting SC, or AS meeting SC, or AC meeting AS. If we keep telling mothers that an unhealthy child is a 'mark of wrongdoing,' we are pushing them into the hands of fake prophets who will extort them while the child’s condition worsens.
The 'Exception' Argument: It’s not an exception. Over 150,000 babies are born with Sickle Cell in Nigeria every year. Is that an exception or a national health crisis that requires Doctors, not just 'deliverance'?
This mindset is why we are where we are. We would rather blame a mother’s 'conduct' than admit our healthcare and genetic education have failed. This is Dtruthspeaker. You're not getting anywhere arguing logically or factually with him |

Even at that is it the 2yr old who will run up and down looking for pastors? No. It is the mama who does it of which we are all wondering why. And that is where you see she knows something we don't know especially as it is a serious mark of wrongdoing for a mother to birth an unhealthy child. And go and check you would never see a virgin birth an unhealthy child. How can a virgin give birth? |

Many Nigerians are schooled (they have degrees) but they aren't educated enough to question illogical dogmas. When fear enters the heart, 'schooling' flies out the window. That is why a Professor will still carry a bottle of 'holy oil' to fix a car engine. Good point. The quality of our educational system is so poor. Even the lecturers themselves are 'schooled' (borrowing from your lingo) and not educated. So what is the fate if their students? Imagine a consultant telling residents that there is a 'God factor' in medicine. In saner clines, her license would be seized but hey, this is Nigeria |

Christianity Etc › Re: Between Faith And Fact: Why Do Nigerians Trust Pastors Over Doctors And Lawyers? by jaephoenix(m): 1:23pm On Dec 26, 2025 |
Akinpedia: Good day, Great Nairalanders.
I’ve been observing a recurring pattern in our society that I find both fascinating and deeply worrying. We live in a country where a man will be diagnosed with a stage 2 ailment by a specialist with 30 years of experience, but he will ignore the prescription and head straight to a prayer mountain because his Pastor said, 'It is a spiritual attack.
We often encounter individuals facing serious legal challenges who, instead of immediately seeking the assistance of a skilled and experienced lawyer, choose to 'sow a seed' in hopes of a miracle resolving their problems. This approach, relying on chance or faith alone, often delays the necessary professional help that could effectively address their legal issues and lead to a favorable outcome.
Why is this the case? I’ve identified a few reasons, but I want to hear your thoughts:
The Failure of Systems: Could it be that our hospitals, often perceived as places of healing, have unfortunately become death traps for many? Additionally, is the sluggish pace of our legal system contributing to this widespread sense of frustration and hopelessness? Perhaps this is why so many people find themselves turning to pastors and spiritual leaders, seeking comfort and guidance, because the so-called 'professional' alternatives have repeatedly let them down and failed to provide the support or solutions they desperately need.
The "Hope" Factor: Professionals often deliver the cold, hard truth with blunt clarity (for example, saying, 'You have only 6 months to live'). On the other hand, pastors and spiritual leaders tend to offer comforting words that many want to hear, such as, 'You shall not die but live.' Could this difference simply be a way for people to cope with the harsh realities and difficulties of life? Is hope, in this sense, nothing more than a psychological mechanism designed to help individuals endure and find meaning despite their challenges?
The 'Spiritualization' of Everything: In Nigeria, there is a widespread belief that behind every event, no matter how small or seemingly ordinary—whether it is a village fly buzzing around or a sudden car breakdown—there is a spirit or supernatural force at work. This deep-rooted cultural perspective often leads people to interpret everyday occurrences through a spiritual lens. Given this worldview, one might wonder whether, in the eyes of the average Nigerian, a Pastor who claims to understand and communicate with these spiritual forces is considered more 'qualified' or competent than an Engineer who relies on scientific knowledge and technical expertise to solve practical problems.
Charisma vs. Cold Logic: Pastors tend to be much more empathetic and charismatic in their approach, often connecting deeply with individuals on an emotional level. In contrast, professionals in various fields may adopt a more detached and transactional manner, focusing primarily on efficiency and outcomes rather than personal connection or emotional support.
My Question to You: Is this total trust in religious leaders the reason why we aren't progressing as a nation? Or is the Pastor simply filling a gap that the Government and Professionals left wide open?
Let’s take some time to discuss this topic in more detail and explore all the relevant aspects thoroughly. I have had so many instances of faith vs facts in my practice, that I have lost count. Just 2 days ago, I saw a 38 yo woman who was brought by her elder sis. She has a large tumor of the left breast and from the history and examinations,I suspected it's malignant. I told the patient and she didn't even flinch. Her elder sis was the one aggrieved and asking what they are to do. I just told them to see the general surgeon. The patient herself said her pastor told her nothing is wrong with her. I just shrugged mentally and told myself natural selection should take its course. Then the regular 'I will deliver like the Hebrew women' crew. These guys avoid caesarean sections like plagues to their detriments, often unalive |

ogascomax: Evolution and the Big Bang are scientific models, not eyewitness facts. Biblical creation is a historical claim based on revelation. The debate is not science vs faith, but which explanation best accounts for reality as a whole.” The Big Bang explains expansion, not creation It assumes: Space Time Energy Laws of physics …already exist The Big Bang explains how the universe expanded, not why anything exists at all. It does not explain the origin of matter, energy, or the laws governing them.” “Why is there something rather than nothing?” Science has no answer. Theology does. B. The cause must be beyond space, time, and matter The universe began to exist Whatever begins to exist has a cause Therefore the universe has a cause That cause must be: Timeless Spaceless Immaterial Powerful Intentional “That description matches God far more than a random physical process It's the almighty God that put it there and science created a system around it to suit their argument. Science were created around God's creation. Science created science to explain God's modal or creation scientifically to make it make sense of their arguments. If you want more points I will deliver them to you and I am 💯 sure that you won't have answer to the questions I will even ask you. Science cannot answer all scientific problems including the ones they created with their theory.
God has washed my brain, while science has washed your brain. I prefer my own washing against yours. Yours will lead you to no where while mine has a future, eternal life a life with God. Again, did you research in evolution at all? Where did you see it as 'scientific models'? You don't need eye witness in proveable facts. For example, do you need eye witness to verify if gravity is real? No! I gave you points like tail bone, which I'm sure you didn't wanna research on. Do you need eye witness to verify tail bone? No! It's right there in our body. Evolution and big bang don't prove creation since we dont know how the earth came about ,but your bible creation story doesn't hold up to scrutiny. The story is riddled with inaccuracies, how do you want us to accept it? Assuming for the sake of this discussion that i believe the earth was created, how did you know it was your favorite god that did it and not the Flying Spaghetti Monster or thousands of other gods? You said your bible is based on eye witness. Who are they? I can believe in science cos I can verify it's product. The phone you're using to type this bulsyht was made by science. What did your god make and how do you ascertain it? |

ogascomax: The story of evolution and big bang theory is purely a scientific publication or fiction. Just a story by moonlight. It has zero proofs but scientific creation. It's a story that they want you to believe that it's true. Nobody witness anything, nobody saw anything. But the stories in the Bible are undeniably correct and true. The prophesies and how what the prophets says would happen and how they happened. So many prophesies from the scripture have happened. These are prophetic words of thousands and hundreds of years ago before it happened. Even Quran could not deny the power that Jesus manifested. He can only be God that can resurrect from the dead and can ascend back to heaven. Oh my word. Evolution is something anyone can read up if he or she really wanna learn, but not theists like you. You prefer ignorance. Humans are currently evolving as we talk. Macro evolution takes millions of years to become evident. Humans had tails. Even during fetal development we have a tail which later regresses. We have an appendix which does nothing in the body today but it was functional when humans depended on raw meat and other foods. Same as wisdom tooth. Even our current anatomy shows a tail. Right now that you're arguing ignorantly you have a tail bone. Yes you do. Google it. It's a remain of when we had longer tails but they regressed. I don't need to go on and on. Big Bang has been proven with evidence. And guess who discovered it,a priest! The bible you are defending has been found to be historically wrong. Egypt never enslaved Israel,no time did the sun or moon stand still and definitely no time was there mass resurrections from the grave I realized arguing with theists decline my brain cells cos they don't know anything and don't care to know. |
