Here is Acts 3:22: "For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.'"

JohnTB was asked if he was this prophet, he said no, he also said he was not Elijah either.
But Christ later said he was indeed Elijah but never said he himself was this prophet. He later CONFIRMED through Peter who he was: Son of the living God (NOT His angel, NOT His prophet!)
