CrimePolice Nab 46 Uniabuja Students For Alleged Cult Activities by jarawa(op): 5:53am On Mar 16, 2020
Forty six students of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) have been arrested by the Police for allegedly engaging in cult activities in Gwako village of Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Gwagwalada Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Dankwano Wilson, who confirmed the arrest of the students to newsmen in Gwagwalada on Sunday, said the suspected cultists were arrested around 4:00am at a forest in Gwako village, after some vigilante members who were moving around the bush suddenly came across them.

He said the vigilante quickly came to inform the police who immediately led the police team to the scene, where 46 of them were arrested on the spot, while others took to their heels. According to him, the suspected cultists were apprehended after a security intelligent, saying “most of the arrested cultists who are in their early 30s are students of the University of Abuja.”

Our reporter reliably learnt that the suspects, who are students of the University of Abuja, went into a thick forest in Gwako, some few kilometres away from the university’s permanent site to conduct ‘election’ in order to elect their leader, when they were arrested.

The DPO, however, said all the forty six suspects have been transferred to the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the FCT police command for further interrogation. Efforts to get official reaction of the University’s spokesperson, Hajiya Maryam Mohammed, on the incident were not successful as she did not pick calls put across to her mobile line as at the time of filing this report.

PoliticsImmigration Service Changes Portal For Recruitment by jarawa(op): 9:56pm On Mar 14, 2020
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a change of portal for its recruitment exercise which it announced last Friday. The spokesman of the NIS, Sunday James, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday morning.

He said the Service had changed the recruitment portal to www.immigrationrecruitment.org.ng which is currently active, adding that the decision was taken to make the portal more accessible to applicants. “Consequently, the earlier portal advertised: www.nisrecruitment.org.ng is no longer in use and not tenable,” the statement read in part.

James reminded the public that the recruitment exercise is free and aside the change of portal, all information contained in the public notice for recruitment remained valid.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) had published the recruitment advertisement in national dailies on Friday 13th March, 2020. However, applicants are complaining that the portal is not accessible.

“Each time I tried to log in, it comes out with an error,” an applicant told Daily Trust on Friday evening. The NIS was silent on extension of the closing date for applications following the hitches with the initial portal.

CrimeBandits Kill 8 In Zamfara, As Matawalle Signs Pact On Helicopters by jarawa(op): 8:05am On Mar 14, 2020
Armed bandits Thursday night killed at least eight members of vigilante group otherwise known as Yan Sakai in Wanke district of Gusau Local Government Area of the state, Daily Trust gathered. The police however said the victims were four. Residents said gunmen invaded Gobirawa village and took away about 11 cows and other animals after chasing people out of their homes. The armed men also killed a prominent leader of the vigilantes called Bala Maigora .

Some of the vigilante members from other neighbouring communities mobilized to Gobirawa for assistance, but the armed men laid an ambush, killing eight of them. The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, said: “Members of a group of local militia known as Yansakai who pursued the rustlers were ambushed. As a result, four members of the Yansakai, including their commander popularly known as Bala Maigora were killed”

“The bandits fled before the arrival of a combined team of policemen and men from Operation Hadarin Daji. Combing of the surrounding axis is being intensified with a view to arresting the perpetrators of this crime,” Shehu said. Meanwhile, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has signed a memorandum of understanding with a company in Dubai, Worldwide Jet Aviation SA, for the supply of MBB BO105 Bell 206 surveillance helicopters.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Mr. Zailani Bappa, said this was part of efforts to ensure optimum security in the state. PoliticsUzodinma: We Won’t Let Oshiomhole Be Humiliated Out Of Office by jarawa(op): 6:39am On Mar 14, 2020
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has said that patriotic forces in the All Progressives Congress will not allow the National chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to be humiliated out of office. Uzodimma who said this while fielding questions from journalists in Owerri yesterday vowed that he would do everything possible to ensure that the plan of those plotting Oshiomhole’s removal was thwarted.

The governor maintained that the national chairman has done nothing wrong to warrant his removal from office, adding that there were clearly spelt out guidelines on how a national officer of the party can be removed. He said those championing Oshiomhole’s removal want to circumvent such laid procedures by going through the back door to obtain exparte orders from the courts.

According to him, “the plot to remove Oshiomhole was a clear case of witch hunt otherwise those behind it would have come through the proper channel which is the NEC of the party but they have refused to do so because they know they have no genuine case against him”.

“Many of us, leaders of the party, are aware that those clamoring for the chairman’s removal are working with the PDP to destabilise the party but they will fail because we will not allow them to humiliate our national chairman out of the party through illegal means or by dropping the name of Mr. President”. He stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has always made it clear that as the leader and father of the party, he does not interfere with party matters, warning that “those dropping the name of the President on their wicked plans to desist forthwith”.
