Judge's Comment
A nice and interesting debate I must say. Far better performance by both sides than earlier ones they were involved in.
I also noticed improvement in the use of English by the sides, but I still saw some slips in concord. Frankly, it doesn't speak well that our university students still write "leaders does" for instance. I know it's more of failure to do proper proofreading than ignorance of that rule, but please this is a competition, no room for the slightest error, least of all things subject-verb concord.
All the 4 debaters were persuasive and also did well on facts and examples. I particularly like pseudonomer's lines on persuasion and example.
I will send individual scores to the coordinators now.
Overall, it's a decent exercise. |

olu4life: Femi Adesina had never been on twitter till 2days ago so where did he apologise again please Cos I clearly remember people clamoured for his presence on twitter last week. Check his TL again, not even up to 20tweets @femadesina I was surprised. I never checked him on twitter, but I knew he wasn't so social media conscious. But I thought he maintained an inactive account that was why I didn't bother to drag it further with him. Actually, I'm a little close to him, but don't discuss such matters. |

It was late in the evening (about 7.30pm) that I got to the spot and it must have happened shortly before then.

I don't think they know the level of damages that has been done to this country by the outgone govt. If they knew, they would even want to consult heaven for solution. I'm an APC sympathiser but I think their argument was civil. I like what they are doing. If PDP cannot do the job of opposition, these guys should be able to mobilize to scrutinise the actions and inactions of APC government. It's a welcome development if you ask me. |

You sighted an example of ceo of shell. The person is rich (I envy am self) but not richer than his employee (Shell) as against your argument. You still don't get me on this employee-richer-than-employer thing. Go and check the original post and see the part I responded to (the bolded part). On the time thing. It is another myth. Entrepreneurs spend more time on work than salaried jobs! They are not free. |

Check the part of his argument I countered (which I bolded). You don't need to be as rich as Shell to be rich. You're rich in all currency if you have N1bn in assets (cash and non-cash asset) to yourself. Just as few salaried people become CEO of Shell, few entrepreneurs become Dangote. 95% of entrepreneurs fail anyway. |

You cannot be richer than your employer, neither do you become wealthy earning a salary. Overused and abused lie. Google recently poached Ruth Porat from Goldman Sachs and she will earn $70m (N14b) in 2 years. ( http://ww2.cfo.com/people/2015/03/google-greets-new-cfo-ruth-porat-with-70m-pay-package/) She is not an employee, not part of owners of Google. Tell me if N14bn in 2 years is not wealth. Immediate sign-on bonus for her is $1m (N0.2b) Coming to Nigeria, the CEO of Shell is an employee of Shell (not part of owners), and tell me the CEO of Shell is not wealthy. I agree we should encourage entrepreneurship, but you guys go to the extreme in making your point. |

oladimejiX: Dear Sir,
Was hoping to bring up this discussion later this week, but after receiving notification of salary payment for May yesterday, payment which looks to have been taxed, contrary to our verbal agreement of 80,000 after tax, its imperative i bring this up and since it looks like you might not be in the office today i decided to send it as email, i apologize for the inconvenience.
Sir, after four months (Feb-May) of working, it has become obvious to me that i cannot cope with the pay and the logistics of the job for the following reasons.
1. coming to work everyday and closing by 5pm (making me get home very late) even when there is no IT support work to do, making me sit out the whole day like a receptionist .
2. doing admin jobs (filling invoices, taking cheques to bank, attending to generator etc.) and running errands (including going to buy drink for your son) all of which are not part of an IT support person's job.
3. unconducive work environment. (i use my computer, i use my internet, office is always hot)
Sir, managing with all of the reasons i have given above would have been a lot easier if was getting paid enough to do it, but for a contract non permanent job i am taking a pay cut to do, it is not workable. If this is all you do, I'm afraid you're being overpaid. A school cert holder can do these for 30k per month. 5pm too late to close? |
Career › Re: It's Time To Resign! by Jarus(m): 11:14pm On Jun 03, 2015 |
I used to be the biggest critic of the call for entrepreneurship. I still am, but I have toned down a little.
Having been exposed to readings on startups and entrepreneurship in general, I'm beginning to think like one already. The orientation about-turn happened in the last one year.
I still hold my view that not everyone will be an entrepreneur (contrary to what people want us to believe, that salaried job is slavery blabla), but it is an option worth pursuing.
I have a small, developing startup by the side and all the income I have made from the startup in the last 2 years is not up to my one month salary in my paid job. That's definitely not something I can think of doing full time.
I'm not thinking of leaving my job. It will be hard to sustain my lifestyle and pay the bill without a paid job that guarantees just a little below N1m per month.
Apart from salaries, other benefits in kind, like free healthcare for me and my family, are just too good to be left. My wife has given birth twice, and on each occasion, she signed a hospital bill of more than 500k, settled by the company.
I'm currently able to combine paid job with side gig, and with able full time partners, we have progressed in the last couple of months. Resigning is not an option for me now. |

Hi Guys,
We had our first Mock Session in Lagos on Sunday, May 31st and we had 9 people in attendance and I'm sure those that attended found it useful.
We did everything you'll be required to do on that day: interview, team work, presentations etc
I also took them through overview of oil and gas industry in Nigeria, PIB and other topical issues to brush up their skills.
Our next stop is Abuja this Saturday, June 6, @ Gwarinpa. We have about 8 people that have confirmed interest.
We will be flying back to Lagos on Sunday to conduct the second session for Lagos on Sunday, June 7, 2-5pm at our office in Yaba.
Then the next weekend, Saturday, June 13th, we'll be in Port Harcourt for the PH session.
We have another session in Lagos on June 21st.
Call my PA on 09092989936 to book your slot.
