pDude: Fvck off a$$holePdude, I have issue with your newfound tendency to refer to Nigerians at home as "locals" or other disparaging terms, since you left the country for US early this year or last year. Oyb made same similar observation to you in a thread few weeks ago. I wonder what you want Nigerians that have spent all their lives in the US - and they are many on Nairaland - to do/say. To ask for their own section where they wont interact with "local Nigerian rats"? |
It's a pity this was unleashed on my dear hometown. ![]() |
You run a general blog, so anything can get posted - from entertainment to sports to politics. I run a blog under the theme career, mentorship and political economy and anything within that theme I can publish and I use my discretion to screen some things like if it's going to be needlessly controversial. I howvere publish football once in a while under the cover 'versatility is critical to career progress'. |
I never said Akin Alabi started on Nairaland. He himself confirmed the role of Nairaland in his hustling days. |
Abu Mikey:Ogbongeblog is a huge success, but Nairaland didn't contribute much to it. The contribution of Nairaland to Jide's thriving portal is not significant. He made his name elsewhere. That's why I didn't include him. |
bharyur2103: Hello,Mr Jarus.I would like to ask your advice on something privately,but I don't know the proper channel to go through.It's career-related.How do I contact you,sir?. Jarushub@gmail.com |
5, OMO ONILE LAWYER (http://omonilelawyer.com/land-verification-service/our-fees/) : One interesting feature of this list is that all the personalities involved were/are moderators except Akin Alabi. Omo Onile Lawyer is, too. He started as the moderator of property scetion on Nairaland, going extra miles to verify land claims and all that. Today, like me, he has floated an independent portal, omoonilelawyer.com. His hardwork on Nairaland paid, through insightful advice on property dealing, has now been converted into full fledged business. If in doubt, check his fees (http://omonilelawyer.com/land-verification-service/our-fees/) Which other one have I missed out? |
4, JARUSHUB (www.jarushub.com) : Now, that’s me. I have been active of Nairaland since 2007, and subconsciously built a following that made it easy for me to hit the ground running when I decided to float my own independent platform early this year. I am quite known in politics and career sections and could have conveniently opened a portal on either niche but decided to opt for career (any fool can discuss politics). Jarushub (www.jarushub.com) is a product of Nairaland and I thank Nairalanders for making me realize I had such potential. Just 9 months after opening the blog, it was nominated among Top 5 career blogs and Top 10 overall blogs in Nigeria by the Nigerian Blogs Awards organizers, losing to Jobberman and Linda Ikeji respectively (http://nigerianblogawards.com/2013-nigerian-blog-awards-nominees/). Jarushub has gone beyond online, with its first offline conference that held in Lekki in Lagos in September. I also got invite as guest in a ChannelsTV economic and policy analysis programme, due to my activities on the web. Nairaland was my launching pad.

3, NOTJUSTOK (www.notjustok.com) : Notjustok.com is Nigeria’s most popular music blog, highly sought after by even artistes and their promoters. One of the key guys that make this blog tick is Lalaboi. In the early days of Nairaland, Lalaboi was one of the dons of Nairaland music section. Lalaboi, though still retains Nairaland ID, has practically migrated to this blog. I’m aware that lalaboi is not the main promoter of this music portal, but his influence there cannot be downplayed, and the role of Nairaland in making himself cannot be divorced from their success. |
2, INSPIRED AUTO (http://BLOCKED/) : Although inspired_m’s car business seems to pre-date Nairaland , there is no denying the fact that Nairaland auto section sky-rocketed its popularity. His outfit, Inspired Auto, is now a multi-million naira venture and leverages the owner’s popularity in the Nairaland auto section. He was also the one that delivered Linda Ikeji’s recently acquired SUV to her. I don’t think Nairaland can be separated from Inspired’s business success.

This subject had been ringing in my head for days and I considered it bloggable. I have been an active member of Nairaland for more than 6 years (far before I even registered on Facebook -2008- and twitter - 2010), and in fact, this is where I first used the moniker Jarus, which is somewhat a brand in cyber-Nigeria now. I have compiled the list of ventures, offline and online, which have used Nairaland either as launching pad or booster in their activities, and are themselves modest outfits in their own right today. 1, NAIRABET (http:///) : “It amazes me that Nigerians are hoping to make money- Akin Alabi, Nairaland, October 13, 2006 That comment has all the characteristics of one made by a hustler, if not a spammer. But guess who made that comment 6 years ago? Akin Alabi, now CEO of Nairabet, Africa’s biggest sports betting website. Today, Akin Alabi is a millionaire. So rich is he today, 7 years after that “hustling comment”, that he dashed out N0.25m for Nairaland’s independent charity team, The e-Helpers Network (TEHN). Today, Akin rides a benz G-Wagon worth more than N20million. The petty internet marketer of 2006 is now a millionaire. Akin started from Nairaland.

Guys may want to check out my blog, JARUSHUB (http://www.jarushub.com/), Nigeria's most influential career portal. |
Hmmnnnn |
Because they know Nigeria is a big market foir them. |
Virgin Finder: Jarus is being modest!it's not me. Someone posed the dilemma to me |
boay: Mr JarusIt's not mme. If you do read my blog well, you should know that could not be me. |
My own reading of the situation is this: Iyabo shared his dissatisfaction with his father with someone (maybe a confidante) and that one went ahead, obviously not at the behest of Iyabo, to write the letter to stir controversy or sold the information to anti-Obj elements. 2 things informed this my line of thought: 1, The facts revealed in the letter are too detailed to be guess work; 2, Osoba's confirmation. |

inuyasha01: . Mr, the main cause is illiteracy and inelightment. Imagine you as a person with personal pride being given crumbs by those useless thieves for you to cast your vote for them after those greedy fools would complain of bad governance. As for me, to hell with them all. Now, we know who is illiterate... |
alaoeri: Nice development, best of luck in your endeavor oga jarus. Thanks bro. |

I need your advice on something quite important. Three months ago, I was suspended from my job for a crime I am not guilty of (I suspect my boss does not want me and otehr accountants again; he suspended me and forced another accountant to resign). Since then, I have been carrying out a research on how to start and run a farm(palm tree, cassava, maize etc). I have even bought a hectare of land in a village close to my hometown in Kwara state for that purpose and secured more hectares on lease. All I am waiting for is teh season start (February/March). I must tell you I am already feeling like a boss (lol), when, suddenly, I learnt after the investigations that my boss had been mandated to call me back and he has done that. The questions now are: should I go back? Am I strong enough to start my own now? Won’t I be better off being on my own? Wont he (my boss) organise a bigger trouble for me (since he was forced me back in the first place)? Now I am at crossroads. With the job, my N50,000 per month is guaranteed, but can’t have more. With my farm, N600,000 per year is not sure, but millions can be expected, depending on factors that cannot be accurately projected. Jarus, what do you think I should do? http://www.jarushub.com/return-to-my-50kmonth-job-or-go-ahead-with-farming/ |
I hope it doesn't have anything to do with ASUU strike |
Jarushub will open physical office and compete with the Jobbermans of this worldv ![]() |
Interestingly, I was on this campus 2 weeks ago. Bad cars by those Arab oyel billionaire children....and the Indians. |
pheesayor: I remember the Fecko days on nairaland back then when the music/section was one of the most vibrant (myself, tosinadeda, ofoka, lalaboi, eldee and so many others) his thread even made the frontpage at that time, he has since disappeared.. I think mopst of the guys in the NL music section then have since gone ahead to float their own independent platform. Lalaboi of Nairalad is one of the founders of notjustok, now Nigeria's leading music blog. I must also admit Nairaland career section was also the launch pad of my now thriving career portal, Jarushub.com, as half of my readers followed me from Nairaland. |
chinnyonwu: No matter how cheap a car is u see people beating it down to unreasonable prices on dis nairaland. Must be very discouragin. am very sure na students wey no get shishi de make dese comments sef. KmtWhat do you mean? The woner said it's negotiable Poeple are putting 700-850k which is just about 2-30% slash. Is that too unreasonable? |
