@EmmyK', Could you prove to me that education is the only way of making a genius? |
Musikilu Mojeed, the award-winning investigative journalist that is the key guy in PT was actually frustrated out of Punch in 2009 or so, before NEXT grabbed him and later co-founded PT. |
I laff when i hear o.a.u students sing:'most beautiful campus in africa'...lol in terms of beauty, that skul is losing mehn....the skul is poo in terms of beauty and neatness.....
My honest take on ABU-OAU debate. AESTHETICS: I have been to both school. I finished from OAU, have a sister that finished from ABU, but had also been to OAU, and confirmed OAU is more beautiful. I think OAU is better. OAU has more eye-popping structures, ABU structures are mostly ordinary, but I think they do well in terms of maintenance of their environment, lawns etc. If OAU was how it was when I left in 2006, I will say ABU has better maintenace culture. But I was there again last year and saw that they've really improved in that aspect too. I was surprised to see the lawns better maintained, etc. We should also not forget that OAU lays claim to being the most beautiful university in Africa unchallenged(and used to be actually, until recently when it becomes arguable). If it wasn't, this epithet would not have survived for so long. In fact, it was rated the 25th most beautiful estate in the world in 1985 or so. We can not say all these are just hype by OAU alumni. It must have substance for it to have endured so long. I think it is only in this our generation that the comparison begins to surface. Over all, I think OAU beats ABU in terms on beauty. LAND MASS: I used to think OAU had the biggest land mass, but I have been confronted with convincing evidence to give this to ABU. Although, this cannot be confirmed by just mere visit that I did, but I think wiki entry is sufficient. Wiki says ABu has the largest land mass. Mohammed Haruna, the Nation columnist, also described it as such in his tribute to ABU at 50. Another testimony to the fact that OAU trumps ABU in terms of beauty is, all articles that eulogise ABU with great superlatives, from wiki entry to Mohammed Haruna's tribute to school's official articles, did not mention it as being the most beautiful, but conveniently hammered on it being the largest in sub-saharan Africa. It is only in informal gossips like this that we compare ABU with OAU in terms of beauty. Also, I don't think OAU students dispute ABU having a larger land mass. So, it is indisputable that ABU trumps OAU in land mass. ALUMNI: I think ABU and UNN have the richest alumni list in Nigeria. But the reason is actually no brainer: While the North and east had respectively ABU and UNN only in the golden generation of scholarship in Nigeria (60's-70's), the West had UI, Unilag and OAU to share its bright minds. So, taken individually, I think ABU has the most intimidating list of alumni in Nigeria, followed by UNN, and then by UI, Unilag and Ife in no order. The first graduate president of Nigeria, Yar'adua, for example, is an ABU alumnus. I don't want to start rolling out others, but I am personally convinced ABU trumped OAU in terms of intimidating alumni RECENT PRODUCTS: As is evidenced from this thread where products of OAU and ABU are murdering grammar in an embarrassing fashion, it is obvious that both schools, like many other Nigerian schools, are losing it. I am a product of OAU and of course know many very sound products of OAU of my generation, but I know very good guys from ABU too, smart guys. ACADEMICS: I think down here, we underrate ABU. Forget about Boko Haram, forget about the general perception about the north, ABU has always been and is still in the same class with the UIs, OAUs, UNNs and Unilags of the south. I have studied products of the school and I make bold to say they compete well with us. Conclusion: I did my first degree in OAU. I am a great fan of OAU and believe OAU brings out your potential more than any other school in Nigeria. If I were to do first degree again, I will still easily choose OAU. I may not be able to argue that OAU is the best school in Nigeria, but if I were to advise younger ones, I will tell them to try OAU, not only because of what they will learn in classes but what they will learn beyond classes on campus campus. But ABU ranks second in terms of my personal respect. They have very quality lecturers. I wont mind taking a second degree in ABU. |
I spend less than time on Nairaland these days, but I accept the challenge. My terms: - Choose a topic of your own - Choose a time which should not be between 8-5pm weekday. If it's not convenient for me, I will modify - Spell out the modalities |
As for business cards, well, there is nothing wrong in being different, being a maverick, pulling some unique stunts, like the 'EMPLOYADAM.COM' guy, but I'm not sure Nigerian employers are moved by such. |
Acidosis: 6. Recommendation letterNot so relevant. As a matter of fact, a friend with recommendation letter from no less personality than Alhaji Lateef Jakande (former governor of Lagos state) came to my then office and asked to see the CEO. Of course, she can also see the PA to the CEO. Her letter was received by the CEO. I doubt the letter wasn't dropped in the bin after she turned back, or at best filed with many other useless letters she receives on daily basis for the CEO, who is too busy striking deals to attend to petty matters like someone looking for job. |
I treated most of your concerns in this article: http://www.jarushub.com/common-interview-questions-and-answer-tips/ But I will be offering more on the thread. |
aventura: I am a nairalander.Where is your compound on Nairaland? |
0lumide: The right question this lazy minded prof should be asking is:. That's my problem with PA's analysis too. I don't think the backwardness, north and south of Nigeria, has anything to do wth religion. We just have bad leaders. On Sanusi, el-Rufai, Ribadu and co, I think prof wasn't fair to them too. None of them was a state governor to turn the north into Dubai or Kuwait or Qatar. Sanusi donated to the reparation of Kano (a norther city), we called for his head. Now you're saying he is watching while the north retogresses. What else do we want? This is beyond the Sanusis and Ribadus of this world. El-Rufai as FCT minister had powers to turn Abuja into the Qatar we are talking abot, he almost did. So what else do we want? However, I understand Pius was only mentiooning those guys as sample of sane guys from the north that can effect change. But we need to understand that this beyond them. Their real, elected leaders are more accountable. |
aventura: Suraj. - Jarus. I would like to engage you in a one on one debate on any topic of ur choice. I go like defeat you, ur own don too much.first, who are you? |

ilugunboy: As a Moderator-emeritus....do you have viewing privilege in the mods section?. See this man o . I see beyond mods section, private, invisible section sef. I have paid my dues on Nairaland, and the owners hardly turn down my special requests, from discount in advert to ability to get a thread deleted or taken to hp or removed, to decision on who should be a mod or not. Now, that is Moderator-emeritus . I won't repeat a class, I was a moderator 4 years ago. |
No Jarus, please. Dude is simply a self-promoter.
I wont even take the offer. I'm Moderator-emeritus, bigger than moderator, to self-promote myself again. ![]() |
I was so scared when my wife was in labour, I didn't agree to doctors' and my boss' CS advice until it was almost getting late. "ise abe" (operation) is still seen as very big deal here. I'm aware some women also prefer it in other countries, and getting popular even in Nigeria, among the elite |
Almost what I predicted. A good draw for Nigeria. Nigeria-bosnia match the most critical, just as Nigeria-Uruguay that we lost was teh most critical in Confederations cup and the Nigeria-Greece match in SA2010 our undoing. Iran is a walk-over. |
price? |
These oyinbo sef. Every small thing, suicide. Ok not small thing, but suicide |
filcast: good to know. Pls advise me on how to achieve this. My friend suggested moulding blocks and storing, buying bags of cement etc. He opined that storing such visible materials encourages and motivates the individual as stored cash can be diverted to other things when pressure mounts.I also advise against saving cash. You may save for a couple of months to be able to buy land. Once you have land, get a good architect for a decent plan (which costs less than 100k, did mine 50k in 2009), put the plan beside your bed, so that when you want to go to bed almost every night, take it and look at teh house on paper, it will motivate you; start by committing 50-80k from your salary to it every month. It will interest you to know that 50k will buy 300 blocks. In months you have some other commitment, no problem in leaving it for that month. Before you know it, within 2 years or even less, you will have a house of your own. |
virago: It should be GIVINGThanks. Let me go and edit the article right away. To think I read the article more than 10 times without spotting that. |
I'm a guy and I feel more comfortable in sandals (except when I dress officially that I must wear shoes). |
Tha own goal was far from being Obaobona's fault. In fact it looked like he wasn't the one that scored the goal in my eyes, but I guess I didn't see that part of teh clip well (he backed camera). |
what about 150k earner?
I started mine when I was earning 163k per month...and I'm not even one of the most financially disciplined person you can think of. |
