TroGunn: It's called Modesty - The gentle art of wanting something or enhancing your charm by pretending not to want it or be aware of it, with the sole aim of getting the other other party to want to give it eagerly. If he had said for religious reasons, I for hear.
Probability that this is the case is close to 1.
Career › Re: Welcome To My Office by Jarus(m): 10:22pm On Nov 22, 2012
Got my confirmation letter couple of weeks back, having clocked 6 months here. Got quite an impressive rating by my boss, even more than I rated myself.

Our oga patapata from London also came to town last week and it was an interesting experience working directly with him for three days. Tight 3 days though, all day meetings, culminating in an evening out at a high-end spots on the Island till late in the night, discussing informal things, while emptying servings of a potpourri of seafoods.

Expectedly, my deliverables in the next 1 month swell up fall-out of the action points from the serial meetings. Now,my scheduled leave is under jeopardy.

How often? Almost every week, maximum period without quarrel is 1 month.

Most times, it goes naturally after maximum one or two days, we forget the quarrel, but sometimes I beg her.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: When Your Boss Is Younger Than You by Jarus(m):
The nature and style of the boss (and your own too) will determine whether you will enjoy the working relationship or not.

In my former place of work, our Head of Dept was just 32 years and we had managers (and supervisors, even officers sef) of 40 plus under him, but he was a friendly guy and everyone enjoyed working with him.

Here too, in the biggest unit within our department, their oga is 31 years old and he is only older than 1 person in his 7-man unit, every other member of his team is oder than him. But na oyinbo sha, so easy to work it. They have good working relationship.

Personally, never experienced it, but I don't have a problem with working with a boss younger than I am. It will only motivate me to set a target for myself too.

Oh, I just saw that Cheddarking signified interest in arguing against state police. He is selected.

But we are still goin on with the new style, which is a dialogue.

So our final list

1, HNOSEGBE
2, DEEPSIGHT
3, CHEDDARKING
Politics › Re: NL Monthly Political Debate by Jarus(op):
Nobody is showing up to argue against STATE POLICE.

This means this month's edition will not be a debate but a DIALOGUE.

We have to modify the procedure then.

I hereby call out ILUGUNBOY to come and argue AGAINST state police, based on his comment in this thread on Nov 13:

Just as they say that Nigeria is not ripe for State police...I will also say that Nigeria is not equally ripe for the abolition of the Indigene-Settler policy.

Until we trust ourselves well enough on little things...then the policy stays.

Oya, the man from Egba should come and formally defend his position o. Whoever comes across him should tell him he is wanted here o

I'm going back to dig up more history.

Over the years, especially when Nairalanders of different political leanings clash, the free-for-all that usually ensue have given rise to a number of names for some Nigerian political personalities. Oya, let's create a dictionary of Nairaland-given names here.
Islam › Re: The Dilemma Of A Young Muslim Man by Jarus(m): 5:22pm On Nov 20, 2012
First, I think this is a very weak excuse for someone to start losing eeman and affecting salat.

Now, your questions:

1. Indeed, what does Allah say about such and how smart is this idea?
Clearly haram. In Islam, the methodology is as important as the intention. And this is not a matter of life and death, so dharur(very critical exception) doesnt come in here.

2. What are the alternatives open to this young man?
Find job. With his O'level, he still can find get jobs. Cleaners here collect up to N20k per month.

3. Is there anyone willing to help him? He has knowledge of computers and networking.
I hope we find. That will be fine. Javalove? Would contact him on Facebook

4. What can we do as Muslims and a society to help our young men and women in similar condition as Brother X?
Honestly, I don't think this is a very critical condition. Alhamdulilah, he is able bodied and in good health. There are people that are down with ill-health and on top of that very poor and even homeless. That, however, doesnt mean we cannot help people in such situation. Can our IT brothers work something out for him?
