Islam › Re: Marriage: Hijabi Or Non-hijab by Jarus(m): 9:43am On Nov 01, 2012
BahPulo: Amin thank you for the well wishes it really means a lot to me. I notice that nigerian muslims are really up to date with their deen. For example you wear the hijab more than we do in senegal it looks like sallah and ramaddan are well respected in your community, and many other things. I am not saying we don't have people with good devotions but there are more people like me (but i intend to change inchallah) muslims in name but knows very little about islam.
Quite true.

It appears to me Nigerian Muslims are generally the most conscious of their deen in West Africa. Interestingly, Muslim-other religions ratio in Nigeria is just 50-50 whereas a country like Senegal has close to 80-20 in favour of Muslims.

But I observe, even with their not-so-strong practice in those countries, they hardly convert from Islam, unlike what is common in Nigeria, especially among some Southern Nigeria Muslims. They may not be practising, but they still believe they are Muslims, even if they have lived all their lives in France or even born in France.
Islam › Re: Marriage: Hijabi Or Non-hijab by Jarus(m): 9:28am On Nov 01, 2012
BahPulo: I am happy to return to this thread and tell my muslim sisters that I finally took the hijab. I feel so liberated that I get mad at myself for delaying it this long. It's been a journey and I am glad to say that I finally reached my destination. I love the inner pose and peace the hijab has given me. I love the fact that I get greeted by a muslim wheneever I pass one because they can tell. I am taken by surprise when strangers I don't know say assallah mallaikum to me on the streets. I love the fact that my husband is happy but most of all I love the fact that I am finally doing what Allah expect from me as a muslim woman. Thank you for your prayers because if you go back to the first few posts on this thread you will see some of you prayed that Allah makes it easy for me to take the hijab He did and Alhamdulillah. MAy Allah make it easy too for our sisters who are finding putting the hijab on hard.
Congrats. May Allah strenghten you.
@Jarus, BTW, I thought you said two debates: Saturday/Sunday, or did I read that wrong? What happened to the SNC debate last week? No takers?
Two debaters pulled out. Our initial plan was that the 4 debaters would be paired to debate amalgamation on Saturday while the 2 winners debate SNC on Sunday. The other two debaters didnt show up, so we had to make the amalgamation final.

If asked to advise I wont advise a graduate to reject a 50k per month job. I will only advise him further to be on the look-out for better opportunities while diligently carrying out that one, at least to gain reasonable experience.

Beyond the pay some other factors go into it - knowledge/personality of the person, what the job entails, location etc.

When someone who has an MBA sought my advice for an offer of 31k per month in a new tax consultancy outfit, I told him to take it. My reasons: 1, knowing the guy's financial discipline, I know he can live and even save on 30k 2, you wont know that is what he is earning when you see him dressed for that job 3, tax is an interesting specialization and I know he stands to learn a lot 4, he can gain reasonable experience that can be useful in getting better jon 5, 30k better than staying idly at home earning zero income 6, by his very humble nature, I knew he wont mind

On a personal note, when I finished university, I set a standard that I wont take any job that pays me less than 150k per month. And it came to pass.

NYSC › Re: Should NYSC Stop Including Phone Numbers Of Corpers In The Year book? by Jarus(m): 4:56pm On Oct 30, 2012
oliidell: Sometime ago, about a year after my youth service, I received a call from an unknown number and this is a summary of what the person said;"...that we did NYSC together in the same organization, but he was in a different department.

He presently works in Nigerian Agip Oil Company PHC, AGIP is presently having a hushed internal recruitment which he wants me to benefit from...that he would need N100,000 to settle ppl.

He said I should bring whatever I have and he would assist with the balance-which I wud repay when I get d job..
Of course I told him I don't remember him, but he mentioned about 5 other guys dat served with me and sounded very convincing. we were more 100 corpers in NNPC Napims, so I believed him. My saving grace was dat I was totally broke, so I ddnt credit his account.

A friend of mine wasn't so lucky, he lost about N50k.. I have since realized these scammers poach numbers and details from NYSC year books.

So pls let sm1 here with clouth convince NYSC to stop publishing phone numbers of out-going corpers in the year book.

Share your experiences too
How will a graduate fall for this?

Well, e be like say dem dey look face for that yearbook. Dem dey identify maga face. cheesy

For God's sake, how will a company like Agip ask person to pay money before being given job. This is very annoying. One feels shy being addressed as a Nigerian graduate with this kind of things these co-graduates do.

I don't have any issue with NYSC publishing phone numbers. It's been helpful in contacting those I lost contact with.

Romance › Re: Would You Marry A Lady That Propose Marriage to you ? by Jarus(m): 5:27pm On Oct 29, 2012
Almost naturally, one tends to value more a lady one sees, goes for, not getting easily, but getting after loads of efforts. However, there are exceptions. For some people, the mere fact that the lady expresses(even if indirectly or just by body language) feelings for you can spur genuine feelings from you too. And when the two gel and blossom, they become mutual love.

And it is actually easy to read the motive - i.e to separate one that 'feels' for you just because of some material things in you or because of her own defect, from those that genuinely have genuine feelings for you.
Car Talk › Re: Does Your Car Turn Heads? by Jarus(m): 2:30pm On Oct 29, 2012
Sometimes, who is driving and where it's been driven also determine it's 'head-turning' ability.

Drives a 2005 Toyota 4runner SUV. Hardly turns head in my regular places(Ajah and VI),except on few occasions when my stature betrays the car and couple of watchers look 2nd time to check whether na this pako-looking slim guy get d vehicle.

It however turns more heads when my hijab-wearing wife drives it.

And turns most heads when I am in my hometown. cheesy

That's my observation.

In any case, I like good cars.
