Education › Re: What Influenced Your Choice Of Course In School? by Jarus(m): 6:05pm On Jun 11, 2012
My dream career in secondary school was banking(due to influence of late Dr Femi Adekanye, CEO of Commerce Bank) but my favourite subject was Economics.

I wanted to go to Unilag to study Banking/Finance and had already completed my UME form. My brother, a graduate of Unilag, advised that I choose Economics, which is more encompassing, instead of a narrow banking/finance. He also advised against choosing Unilag due to the very tough, often not merit-based admission process. That was how I changed to Economics and Ife.

Confirmed from a very reliable source. The Faruk Lawan subsidy scandal is unfortunately true. Fell for set-up by EFCC, SSS etc. Deleted many names from the subsidy indictment list. Now, I have no doubt again that the only politician with 100% integrity is a dead one.
Politics › Re: Farouk Lawan (subsidy Probe Committee Chairman) In $600,000 Bribery Scandal by Jarus(m): 4:39pm On Jun 09, 2012
When I saw this topic, my mind raced to Sanusi's statement at the subsidy townhall: 'these fuel importers are so rich that they can bribe anybody. Everybody has a price'. Olisa Agbakoba jokingly interjected 'not me' and SLS also replied with joke: ''yes, 1 trillion cannot buy Olisa, but 5 can'

I don't want to believe this, but if this is true, then there is serious trouble o

Bontee: Even the owner of facebook has to give way to a management team to take over the actual running of facebook and see what we have today. This one man business approach is not good for nairaland and i don't know why there has not been cohesion, joint planning and decision taking system in managing this site.

That is what i told semyd4life that it was strange for me to see moderators coming here to indicate interest as this is something that should have been trashed inhouse before coming up here. There is no way you can moderate for free for so many years ( That female moderator from italy has been doing that ) and suddenly you want to start paying the new ones for fighting spam. It shows lack of appreciation for the work done by the present moderators.

I still repeat that no forum is greater than it moderator, users, partners and managers, seun should thread wisely. It is not really about the money because i am aware that most of these mods are working class so they can take care of themselves.
I have to agree with this. I honestly think NL has reached a stage where mods should be rewarded.

Donxavier: . I was kind of like in a dreamland going through all the posts from the beginning to now. I strongly believe that the easiest way to get in is still through the keenly contested recruitment processes for trainees. I mean just with your ordinary B.sc Pali. What's the point of spending almost E20k on Msc abroad when you can get in with your ordinary Bsc. Unless Ofcourse you didn't make a 2.1 or above. I am speaking strictly for entry level positions. I know the 2.2 forces one to get a foreign degree just to at least get an audience with these coys in this very competitive times but I ve heard stories of guys getting in with a 2.2. I think the a very pertinent question is How do guys who finished with a 2.2 in sciences or engineering chart their way into the MNOCs in Nigeria? What are their realistic prospects? Real life experiences needed.
Yes I know a number of 2-2 grads that got job in oil companies @ entry level, Schlum specifically. Well I think it's a combination of luck and being able to prove oneself when given the rare opportunity. Not sure Shell, Chevron and others relax the 2-1 and above rule, but maybe oil servicing and independents do. And of course, after entry into the industr, class of degree has limited use in moving within the industry as experienced hire. Plus, if you are able to get in as entry level with 2-2, try do your Msc/MBA asap so your first degree becomes less relevant in moving on. The 2-2 lucky guy I knew in Schlum was affected by a lay-off less than 2 years after, but I don't know whether it was due to performance or qualification.

ZUBY77: Nairaland is a big forum. one person can hardly do that job. The job also requires constant monitoring of new registrations especially from flagged IP addresses. it also requires constant monitoring of hot topics since some people posses the habit of posting irrelivant ads in hot topics.
I would have loved to help out free of charge but i dont think i will have the time. I can help out on a single section though.
Best understanding of the job so far.

One of my major problems with GEJ right from his acting presidency time is his demonstrated belief in use of federal purse to achieve any goal.

His campaign was the most expensive in the history of Nigeria
50m 'transport fare' for SNC
7000USD per delegate bribery on eve of PDP convention
Now, 20m for northern leaders

Raxxye: @Jarus. Impressive! U really had a time of ur life! But I hear in Sokoto the sun does not set, but continues till midnight with all its heat and glare!(lol), plus flies perching on ur mouth, eyes, nose, etc. Wonder how u guys coped!
Sun set actually, but the heat continued even after sunset. I mentioned up there how I skipped camp lunch because of I dare not trek few metres to the kitchen to pick my food.

Heat was to the extent we slept under trees in open fields on many nights; you dare not sleep inside the room.

Anytime I can't avoid trekking under the sun, I first emptied pure water satchete on my head.

Hired. Closed.

And yeah, I don't see anything wrong in that. As you have already noted, driving is a private position.
Just like anyone will naturally prefer Hausa as gatemen for their skills and commitment in the trade.

Submissiveness and humility were the principal reason I settled for that, anyway.

All the above were within my 2-3 days-a-week stay in these PPA villages. I actually stayed in Sokoto metropolis for 80% of my service period. In fact, after getting comfortable with my principals and NYSC Area Inspectors(Kabiru in Rabah and Sanusi in Gudu - we still talk till today) I don't show up in these vilages in 3 consecutive weeks sometimes.

I was initially staying in MCAN lodge, Sheikh Gunmi college, miyetti Allah area of Sokoto, later moved to Old Airport/Offa road.

Spend mornings @ vendors stand, either that of govt house rd or Bello way r/about(most).

Spend afternoons reading for my ICAN @ City (medical students)campus. Mixed with their students and still get in touch till today.

Early evening playing table tennis @ Sahara hostel road, or in cybercafe surfing Nairaland, or at DAM restaurant

7-10pm @ Daddy smart recreation centre, meeting with other corpers and bankers, yapping, gisting, playing table tennis, suyaing, zoboing, kunuing, watching football

I can't forget Yakoyo amala spot @ Emir Yahaya junction

It was an adventurous one year I will never forget in my life

PS: I joined NL in service year in Sokoto.

My yawa saw me daily reporting @ state NYSC secretariat, Kalambaina, for 2 weeks

Had series of meetings/quizzes/drills with panels, state nysc exco, sss, etc b4 finally meeting with state commissioner for education.

Later reposted to Balle/Gudu as a punitive, protective and reoccurrence-preventive measure

Resumed Balle, met the principal, who initially shakara that he will reject me because I can write petition against him as I did against the governor.

I promised to be a good corper and I resumed. I was taking PHE in Rabah, now Maths in Balle. Balle pupils were more brilliant, so I was encouraged more, compared with the discouraging dullards of Rabah.

Always having issue with principal around stay in Balle. I told him I can't stay there Mon-fri, cos no network, no good water, no good food. He once threatened to report me to nysc secretariat at sokoto town

We later became friends sha, very nice man, actually. Sometimes, we reclined together on mats under the tree(school principal o) and yarn about Lagos, about his life etc. The man fear Lagos, he said he had only been there once.

Hardly attended any CD. Wetin concern me with CD

Got one Abeokuta woman selling Yoruba foods, that's where you find me every morning and afternoon

Corper colleagues in Balle included Moses, Rose, Kanu etc

Played football match: police vs corpers as part of sendforth. Top-strike for corpers team, but fired blank. Ended goalless

Posted to Rabah, 30 mins drive from Sokoto township

Spent 3 days there

Was given accomodation, corpers lodge 2(the guest house built by Sardauna himself). Rabah was Ahmadu Bello home village.

Hardly network. You will practically climb a tree b4 u have faint glo reception

Ran back to town after 3 days. But did show up Mondays and pass a night or 2 every week.

Had running problem with my principal

Made a number of friends, corpers(Kola, Goke, Kalu, etc) and indigenes(Jamilu, mallam Hassan, Jamilu2 etc)

Entered state govt yawa wen I wrote an article criticizing Gov, and I was flung to another LG, Balle, 2 hours from Sokoto town, few miles from Niger republic

2007/2008. Sokoto
Too eventful to narrate in full, but let me just list the events/places/people

FARFARU CAMP
Stayed in camp mosque thruout camping period, only went for parade once

Sun so scorching that I forwent my food many afternoons because I can't enter the go to kitchen under that sun

Hardly wore camp uniforms, put on my buba and strolled to town almost everyday

Only activity participated in was cheering my platoon 3 football team in matches

Didn't go for endurance trek; wanted to go actually but developed headache the night before

Always in the midst of boys arguing(most of those guys are still my friends till today)

Remember one guy asking me the day camp closed: this guy, and you will say you also came to camp?(Referring to my indifference to camp activities thruout)

Copped a 2005 Toyota 4runner couple of months back and it's doing fine.

However,am of the opinion we are all at the mercy of all these airlines.we will never know the true nature of the aircrafts we fly until something terrible happens.God save us.
As per jimoh,no beefs intended but since the first day I saw him at OAU,ife where he came to do a talk,he has never looked someone I like.he runs his mouth a lot.
If that was 2005, then I was also around Oduduwa hall that afternoon. Wasn't at the lecture but passed through the place while coming from HSLT. With his Hummer and policemen around, it was more of a celebrity show than motivational lecture. And I hadn't even formed opinion about him that time sef. I began to lose my respect for him when he needlessly made childish remarks about Dangote and Otedola in refinery sale period of 2007. Since then I disregard him with every action/statement from him. Too 'bushy'.
