I'm still a student in OAU and to be sincere if it is all these rubbish we are being made to learn is what makes a school great then no Nigerian university deserves to be anywhere near the 1st 5000. I dont really understand,is it the architecture, landscape or the product of a school that makes it great? The general practise of schools in Nigeria is to build an imposin gate for any passer-by to admire only for u to enter and see the mess we call schools. Come to OAU and see the 19th century bookshop we call a library!
To sum it up,I think any school tryin to lay claim to being the best should back it up with substance. UI backed up their's by winning the Zain challenge. Anybody else should point to what their schools have achieved on the big stage in the last 10yrs or else shut up for ever. Rant Over
Okay let me roll out OAU's in the last 10 years:
-Best African team, and third only to USA and China in the world, in SIFE Universities world entrepreneurship projects competition, New York, USA, 2007
-Best African team, and second in the world, in same competition in 2008, Singapore
-Most productive University in Nigeria in terms of research output, NUC 2005
-Most productive University in Nigeria in terms of research output, Shongai University world ranking, 2005-2008
-Most competitive University in West Africa
-Most sought-after University in Nigeria
-Best Nigerian University, Webometrics, 2007
-2nd Best Nigerian University, Webometric, 2005, 2006, 2008
-Most consistent Nigerian University on Webometric ranking. Always between 1st and 2nd since 2005.

A friend of mine,Osas in Ibadan was snatched by the cold hands of death this morning, Death as a result of natural causes is bad enough but it becomes more sad when the cause of death can be traced to avoidable causes.
He was actually filling his genset with fuel, using his cell phone that is equipped with a torchlight.Unfortunately,a call came in at this particular point in time and this must have ignited the petrol.
I was really scared when i heard this pathetic story because of how often we all must have done similar thing in the past.
Moreover,i've found out that most people also engage in this 'unsafe practice' that was why I decided to send this to all the contact numbers on my phone. If the FG and PDP had given him electricity osas would be nowhere near his gen and would still be alive now merrying and berrying with us.The PDP have sent a lot of pple to an early grave.RIP osas.

Which way Nigeria. . .
sad shocked
I also do this very well o. Off to go and text my people to avoid this common thing.
Meanwhile, @poster, sorry o.
Politics › Re: Governor Flogs Petitioner With Horse Whip by Jarus(m): 6:18pm On Feb 22, 2010
“Ikedi Ohakim flogged, flogged and flogged me ruthlessly, heartlessly and without mercy. He kicked me several times without mercy.

“The pain was much. I cried, cried and called on Almighty God to come to my rescue. I must have received well over 120 strokes of koboko.

“My blood completely stained the rug in the Governor’s office. I was in pains. I saw hell with my two eyes.

“Ikedi Ohakim continued to flog me. His brother Emma Ohakim walked in and said ‘Chineke, His Excellency, His Excellency’.

“Ikedi Ohakim said to his brother ‘Emma, this is Ikenna Samuelson. I will kill him today’. Emma simply left the office.”

He said when the pains became unbearable, he grabbed Ikedi Ohakim’s legs and pleaded with him reminding the governor that they were in-laws.
“He then shifted a chair and sat down with the koboko still in his hands,” he said adding that the governor started to shout, “Samuelson you have disgraced me in this country. You have finished me. I will kill you and nothing would happen.”

Education › Re: Tbk417, Spikedcylinder, Jarus: Come, Let's Discuss Ife Economics! by Jarus(op): 5:06pm On Feb 22, 2010
Adejumo was just average for me, jare, very easily angered which to me reeks insecurity
I agree fully with the bolded, but disagree with teh first part.
He actually gets angry too easily. I also fell into his trap in my final year, when my pen landed me into trouble. We came late and were disallowed from writing his test. After our pleas to him fell on deaf ears, I wrote a letter to his supervisor, Dr. (Mrs)Olusi(who actually had that course) on behalf of affected students. The woman tempered justice with mercy and compelled him to do a make-up test for us or make our exams 100% as our excuse were genuine. He took it up with me, and I had to beg him. I almost ahd extra year because of that incident, and other late-comers, who I had written on behalf of, under duress, dissociated themselves from that letter. It eventually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Our exam was made 100% and I had 70A, while many people taht did the test failed, and most of co-class-toppers had B. He told me that ''a student is only brilliant if his teacher says so'', meaning no matter how brilliant I am, he is the one to determine what I will score(and he can fail me if he likes) and I was afraid he would fail me in exams, leading to extra year, but to my surprise, I turned out to be one of the very few studenst atht had A. . I thought he would victimize me, but he was fair.

The man get temperament, but he is very good in lecturing, to me.

I liked Akinbobola though - The ECN 411/412 guy.He was easy going and his classes were lively, funny guy. I think he's left for South Africa now though
This man don go SA?

Don't even get me started with Expy - ugly monkey that he is. He gave me a lot of UNNECESSARY  stress. For what na? He'll send me on a merry-go-rounds simply because he wanted to sign course form.
Despite being close to Expee that I used to mark for him, he still agve me wahala. He was my project supervisor, and he made me go through 'hell'. I also had doses of those course-signing wahalas. But I can forgive all that for his humour.

pcicero:
I'm sure you can't fault Ife products!
We no dey carry last!. Anyway, Ife products stand out. See who-is-who from Ife on NL: Seun(olori-oko himself), Dayokanu(DK kan, NL sports kan), TKB417(the indefatigable sports and career analyst), Eastbay(of sports section), Spikedcylinder(of everywhere), Jarus(my not-too-humble self  grin), pcicero(one of the most informed analyst of NL), cyberG(of politics), No2atheism and many more. I challenge other schools to bring up their products on NL and let's compare notes. I just pity my very brilliant senior colleague, oyb, who may have to be in the same line with Becomricch. grin How I wish the likes of Ajanlekoko and Ibime are also from Ife.

More seriously, I think Unilorin is a very good school. They are really trying and have govt back-up unlike 'rebel' schools like Ife. They have good products. Uninterrupted sessions, although too fast for my liking. It's a very good school no doubt. But I belong to the school of thought that believes 'either Ife, Unilag, UI or no University in Nigeria'. I'm beginning to admire ABU too these days given some world class products from the school I have come across.

And to Becomricch bragging about Unilorin's land mass. I agree Unilorin is very big, having been to the school before and I was marveled at the distance between the gate and built-up areas, but the built-up areas is afr too small, and hardly takes up to 30% of built-up area in Ife. I spent 6 years in Ife(don't ask me the course I read grin) and I never knew up to 50% of the built-up areas. All those zoo, stadium, etc you are talking about Ife has it. Oh sorry, I'm being serious with BCR.

But officially, ABu is recognized as the largest University in Nigeria: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmadu_Bello_University
Travel › Re: Your First Day On A Plane by Jarus(m): 4:45pm On Feb 22, 2010
First time? Grown up, heard so much but was disappointed no big deal, though felt a little nervous but all those stories I used to hear about plane appeared exaggerated.
Frequency? Not a frequent flier, just like 8-12 times a year.
Turbulence? Experienced it a number of times but remained calm.
Memorable experience? That was the last time, a couple of weeks ago, returning from Abuja to Lagos, flying Aero, poor visibility, so we couldn't land normally. I was sleeping when the announcement on the poor visibility and the necessity of delayed landing. I woke up to see it's past 1 hour and we had not landed. I joked with the man beside me that 'hope we've not gone past Lagos, because we are more than one hour on air and we've not reached Lagos', and teh man told me that the cabin crew had announced poor visibility. A 45- minute trip eventually took  one and half hours, but I still remained calm while the hovering lasted.

I usually buy enough newspapers at the airport to be reading on board, and at times sleep off. Much as I prefer Aero and Arik(on domestic routes, of course), I usually fly the next available flight most times due to my not-so-organized nature like missing flight etc, so I have flown virtually all airlines - Arik, Virgin, Dana, Chachangi, Aero, Bellview, IRS etc.

I still dey around o.

Where is TKB?

It's been long I went to Ife, after collecting my call-up letter in March 2007, but I still want to go.

Learnt the school has been given a facelift now.

On our dept, I communicate with Dr. Shuaib on facebook. I tried calling Expy some weeks ago but he didn't pick.

While in the department:
-I was closest to Expy and Dr. Shuaib
-Expee was my course adviser and my SIFE adviser too, when I was SIFE president
-Professor Oladeji was the best lecturer that taught me. Very good in teaching, lenient with marking. His style is not not Nigerian.
-Among the younger generation lecturers, I think Mr. Adejumo is very learned and good in teaching. He demystified Industrial Economics(ECN 311, 312) and Micro Economics(ECN 301) and made them my best subjects. I give it to him as the best among the youngies, even though I entered his trouble a couple of time.
-I liked Expee and Fabroo, if not for anything, for the humour. I like humour-filled classes. I hate boring classes. Don't fault me o
-All the same, I enjoyed the dept, even though I lost election grin

It's high time our Justices began to be reasonable and realistic in jury awards. Where does he expect the policeman to get 10 million? Same thing applies to the judge that says Rear Admiral Arogundade should pay N100million to the battered lady. N2 million should be okay in teh case of the Naval officer and something like N200,000 in the case of the police constable.

These sums are just too outrageous. We are not talking about Shell or Chevron here.

The scene

Olusola saraki named his daughter Gbemi Saraki as his next Governorship candidate and his son Bukola Sarki is opposing his father publicly. This scene will result to contention between father and the son because from all indications, Governor bukola saraki will nominate his own Governorship candidate that will contest with that of his father.

Because the people dislike the candidate of the Father, they will go for the son's candidate and this will mean that Governor Bukola nominated a candidate and he won.

now

he will be seen as the next godfather and people of kwara will embrace him for going against his father in the first place,

but all the scene is a setup between them, or what do u think?
Bukola appears too refined to engage in this game. I have my doubts. I think Bukola's opposition to his father's attempt to foist his daughter on Kwarans is genuine.
