oyb:is Alhaji a doctor? I know that is the work most Naija professionals do in Saudi |
Princek12:I worked with one of new appointees. He is the new Group GM, downstream, a position which is likely to be in level 3. I must admit he is one of the most brilliant Hausa man I have met in the private sector. Of course, his Hausa intonation does not betray him, but he is one very analytical fellow. I will say he deserves the post. He is an ABU Accounting graduate and holds an MBA from same institution, in addition to courses from Oxford. He is a Chartered Accountant and associate member of Institute of Chartered Taxation of Nigeria(CITN). He is in his late thirties. He was in similar role in a leading private oil and gas company before joining NNPC. For him to have been considered good enough to head the retail department of this highly ambitious private sector company, managing over 500 stations, he is good enough to manage the downstream unit of NNPC. |
I don't see nothing wrong in going bombastic, if you have the right words. I use bombasts(the very few I know) too when I'm writing, especially when I'm replying an insult or feel strongly about another person's view. I personally value creative sentence construction than using big words, though. chic2pimp:Much as I'm not freaked at his vocabulary profligacy, I think it's comparison abuse, and matter-of-factly, an insult, putting Jakumo in the same bracket with Kosovo. Haba, Jakumo knows the meaning of his words and applies them fittingly most times, but Kosovo comes across as someone that just looks into dictionary, digs out any word and applies them, without recourse to its contextual appropriateness. And to make matters worse, his penchant for falling short in simple tenses is irritatingly disturbing. Jakumo takes care of this area well. |
biina:I typed the figures in a hurry, didn't have time to add everything and be sure I have covered everything, as I was already tired, did the posting alte in teh night. In any case, I 'm not with the paper now. God willing, I'll check the figures again tomorrow for its complete and add up. |
Why is teh OP silent on the source or author of the article, I hope OP is not trying to say the article is his. In any case, this article was written by Lamido Sanusi, now CBN governor, in, I think, 1998, shortly before Obj became president. |
![]() Yeee, Obahiagbon has talked again. . . anytime he talks, all of us roll on the floor, falling on one another in laughter. Let me print this and review with my friends at home. We always look out for his bombast. |
chamotex:If he had picked up Poly JAMB form as advised then, he would be nearing finishing now. I hope he took to our 'couragement' This thread could have gotten me sacked from my place of work two years ago, with the way I laughed ![]() |
@ topic, The incident is not fresh. It actually happened alst year and it was extensively discussed on NL at the time, but it appeared the picture had not been made public then. When the picture was made public a couple of weeks ago, a 'fresh' story, other than the initial, true one, was cooked to back up the gory picture. Immediately the picture and the new story was brought here a couple of weeks ago, some of us that discussed it last year called our attention to the fact that the new story appeared 'fishy'. I think now that the driver has clarified, it is clear to all that the robber did not order any driver to 'drive over passengers with no money'. The true story is what the man narrated here. It happened last year, and it was discussed here then, but the picture was not public now. |
NEPA, ethno-religious and political uprisings, expressways of death are disasters already. . . God please we don't want natural disaster. |

@topic, Caught the bug in December last year. I had wanted to get one since early last year but I can't justify dropping such money to acquire such when I still had E71. My E71 got slight problem in December last and I used that as excuse to change phone, switched over to BB, and gave my brother the E71. Admittedly, it was more of me-tooism that pushed me into buying one, as that appears to be the 'in-thing' in office. |
Beaf:Okay, from the stats I have with me here, there are 36 Senior managers(levels 1-3). The only person in level 1 (barkindo) is from Adamawa. The next person and only the person in level 2 is from Edo. there are 34 in level 3, with Katsina and Oyo having 3 each. Abia, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara(I'll also fill that spot one day insha Allah ), Ogun and Rivers have 2 each, and Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Borno, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Osun all have 1 each. The following states do not have anybody in Senior mgt level(1-3): Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross Rivers, Ebonyi, FCT, Gombe, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Ondo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara. I don't think this statistics is skewed in favour of any region. However, if the NEW appointments is what shored up the northern percentage to even that 31%, then this may call for alarm, but it may be argued by the same token that they have been marginalized all these days. I took that news seriously only because it's from Businessday which is not known for undue ethnic cries. I personally know one of the new appointees(a top notch in my company) and he is a northerner. |
Lying in front of me now is the distribution of NNPC staff(Mgt and Non-Mgt) by state and region, as published by NNPC in today's edition of The Nation. NNPC MANAGEMENT STAFF DISTRIBUTION DELTA 77 ANAMBRA 75 RIVERS 67 OGUN 62 EDO 54 IMO 50 AKWA IBOM 45 KOGI 40 KADUNA 38 OYO 39 LAGOS 36 ABIA 33 OSUN 31 ADAMAWA 27 BORNO 25 KWARA 25 CROSS RIVER 25 KANO 23 KATSINA 23 ONDO 23 NIGER 18 EKITI 15 ENUGU 11 BAUCHI 10 KEBBI 10 BAYELSA 10 YOBE 9 GOMBE 8 PLATEAU 8 BENUE 7 TARABA 7 JIGAWA 5 SOKOTO 5 NASARAWA 4 EBONYI 2 ZAMFARA 2 BY GEO-POLITICAL ZONE(MGT STAFF) SOUTH SOUTH 277 SOUTH-WEST 204 SOUTH-EAST 166 NORTH-WEST 106 NORTH CENTRAL 102 NORTH EAST 86 There are other statistics, which I don't have time to be typing here, but all show that the news above is orchestrated. Check The Nation newspaper of today. Let anybody with contrary facts publish his statistics, and stop quoting figures from eth air. I don't know when this mutual mistrust and unfounded alarmism will stop!!! |

asha 80:I don't have any problem with we Yoruba speaking northerners(Kwara and Kogi) coming together to form a state and come and joined to our brothers in the South West, but I have a number of issues to raise. 1, The first division will come from the name of the state. Oya is the Yoruba name for river Niger(I think). The Okun people of Kogi(Kabba and co) have been clamouring for Okun statefor long. The Offa people have been clamouring from Ibolo state for some time. We have three names here now, and I don't know how they will agree. 2, Another fierce division will come from the state capital. Offa and Kabba are two candidates for that but the latter have greater advantage being a province pre-independent. But I know my Offa people, they will rather prefer to remain under Ilorin than serving one Kabba again. Another wahala. 3, Another problem I foresee is the struggle for dominance. The Okun people of Kogi, Ibolo and Igbomina people of Kwara have strong history of rivalry right from their days as Kwara south before the creation of Kogi. I especially know my Offa people with their agidi. I'm afraid they may be strange fellows. 4, More serious agitations like Ibadan and Oke-Ogun states have not seen teh light of the day. It may take not a few decades before it gets to our turn. 5, As somebody stated earlier, instead of state creation, boundary adjustment may solve the problem. If asked to say honestly my mind, I will say we are still day dreaming! |
callkaz:This English get as e be o If I get you right, I guess you wanted to confirm what you heard that a lot of immoral activities go on in camp. It's true but doesn't apply to everybody. |
More seriously, abolishing off-side rule is the greatest disservice anybody can do to football. It takes out creativity in the role of striker. Beating defenders is the real work in striking, and less of putting the ball into the net. Anybody can put the ball into the net. But teh greatest work is how to beat those fierce men. As an amateur striker/winger, off-side rule is the rule I hate most in informal, fun football because it clips my wing, but to take that to the professional level is most unthinkable. |
@topic, Abolish off-side and I will become the highest goal scorer in a FIFA tournament ![]() Reminds me of secondary school. I was a prolific off-side scorer. I ruined so many 'sets' in secondary because of disregard for that rule. Just give me ball in my permanent place beside the keeper and I'll lead the ball into the net no matter who's keeping. Just two-touch, fast placing. . great goals. Every week I emerged highest goal scorer and every 'set' rooted for me despite my lethargic, Kanu-esque, style of play( I no fit stand injury). I still have my 'off-side' scoring boot with me ![]() |
My response to taht article here: http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/articles/guest-articles/how-not-to-defend-sanusi.html |
I also read that article in Guardian this morning and was utterly disappointed. . .and preparing a rejoinder already titled "How not to defend Sanusi'. I'm surprised somebody educated enough to write that piece can have taht low level of reasoning. Even more surprising how Guardian, a paper that is very selective in the article it publishes, found that piece worthy of publishing. |
May God heal the old man. |
NobiGod:Is this error or a case of pot calling kettle black? ![]() Oga Kosovo, Please take it easy with those 'Obahiagbonic' vocabularies. @Topic, Save the irritating maps, I personally enjoy Becomrich. Off-NL, virtually everybody close to me knows this personality called Becomrich, due to my constant reference to him in discussions. I personally believe he is mentally challenged, may God forgive me if I'm wrong, given the vigour he musters in putting forward such obviously flawed arguments. If he had been a primary five village student in one corner of Nigeria, I would have dismissed his posts as the rantings of an immature boy with access to internet, but I just can't imagine a man in his thirties, University graduate and a Canada resident making such comments, if he's sane. Altogether, he is a good source of comic relief here, and I wont vote for his banning. |
Yes, you can. But as advised, you need to have been saving before. Maybe if you had saved 20k per month a year before marrying you could have had 240k. It all depends on your lifestyle. I know many people that earn within that range and take care of a family of 3-5 with that income. And when you see them outside, you will never even know their income is that low i.e they live a decent, middle-class life. They are not based in Lagos though. Another important factor is the lifestyle of your would-be wife. Plus understanding. if she's teh understanding, not-so-materialistic type, then there will be little pressure on you. I'm also a bachelor though. |
2tait:Exactly, especially when you look at the way both rose into prominence. Both have refused to up their game. We thought a new George Weah and Zidane had arrived when both players came into limelight, but went on to be average, despite the hype thast greeted their emergence. In any case, having Martins in my team gives me more hope than Mikel. I go with this: danniecool: |
It's a very reasonable idea. . . A team that got to the final of a global tournament second only to World Cup has potential. But in Nigeria we hardly build on that. A good idea, really, but like many have said here, he needs Sia Sia to work with. Siasia knows the boys more. |
I didn't get you very clearly, but if your challenge is uploading a picture, then save the picture, and in the 'Attach' box, click browse and upload your picture. |
