I'm interested in this man. I think I first read about him on NL some months back when somebody mentioned him as his role model.
Gotta read about this man.

Lagosbobo ,
My main guy. smiley

I didn't want to respond cos the mighty Jarus himself says the thread should be for you & ify alone cheesy

However,I must say that I honesly wish every so called religious person could take time to ponder on their beliefs rather than be quick to cast aspersions on others.

On the 4 issues I raised, thank you for your detailed analysis,i think a lot of threads exists on NL that thrash out these things.

My point really was to show that uplawal should not be quick to bring down other people's faith cos we all still require further contemplation and research on our beliefs.

You have taken the pains to analyse these passages of the Q'uran, tho' I do not agree with all you have posted, but my point is clear.

Reading those passages as they are could suggest some mistake (emphasis on suggest),so someone picking the Bible too and jumping to conclusions or sayng the Bible is false ,christians are liars etc is not being courteous at all.

Lets us,spend time on the spiritual aspects of our religion. . . praying, fasting, worshipping. . . .and not waste God given time insulting other people's beliefs.

We can argue respectfully on doctrine, theology, history etc. . . but not think the worst of the other side.

Like I said earlier religion isn't like Man U vs Arsenal, its much more serious than that !

Cheers man.
A reasonable input there. . .but please, I no mighty anything o. I've just been given the job to 'monitor' this place and trying to ensure there is sanity as much as possible, while, of course, not ruling out the possibility that as a human, I may have my excesses and shortcomings.

I honestly don't care about all these geo-political groupings. They don't add to or take anything away from me. I'm a proud Yoruba man from Kwara and care less where Kwara is grouped politically. All these Middle-belt, North-Central etc don't add anything to me.

Politics › Re: The Downfall Of Northern Supremacy by Jarus(m): 8:28pm On Feb 12, 2010
I hardly comment on dumb threads like this, but seeing respected Nairalanders dropping their points here, I can't help commenting.

My opinion on issues like this is well known - other parts of Nigeria is as guilty as the north. I don't believe in the argument that 'because northerners have ruled Nigeria more than any other region, the north is therefore Nigeria's problem'. This is most illogical.
The question we should ask ourselves is: Has there been any difference when a southerner ruled? Obj? Ironsi? (Let's forget Zik, he was ceremonial; and Shonekan).

Corruption and bad leadership in Nigeria know no ethnic or religious boundary. Which states of the north are Tafa Balogun and  Alamesiegha from?
Obasanjo ruled for eight years and we were hardly better off than IBB.
From this same north we are bashing comes folks that qualify, whether we like it or not, as passionate fighters for the enthronement of good governance and rooting out of corruption - the Ribadus, the Balarabe Musas, the Dangiwa Umars, the Sanusis(much as many will disagree).

This is why I have problems with people that, at the drop of a hat, blame the north for every problem with Nigeria. It's a pity some informed analysts also reason like this. If anything, we Southerners(oh I'm a Kwaran, don't know whether I'm a northerner or southerner) should be ashamed of ourselves that despite all our education, some gworo-chewing, cattle-rearing abokis(to use critics' words) are dominating us. It only shows they are better strategists than us.

On religion, let me start by saying that I'm a Muslim, a practising and proud one. I admit that some of my Muslim brothers unnecessary go berserk on trivial issues, and I have openly condemned them in the past (See my articles 'The Danish Cartoon and the Borno Killings' The Punch 04/03/2006 and 'Farouk: What a message!' Daily Trust 11/01/2010).
But the way some people go around demonizing Muslims and Islam for every problem of Nigeria, as demonstrated by this poster and co-travellers in that blighted mindset, is as uncharitable as it is exaggerated. Of course, as a Muslim, it is disheartening watching groups like Boko Haram, Kala kato, Maitatsine disturb peace and orderliness, or a Farouk Mutallab misguidedly  perpetrating a dastardly act, even as deeper insights and analyses sometimes show that these people are 'overblamed'.

I think the earlier we learn to manage our differences and do away with this mutual suspicion and blaming, the better for us.

Stop all this childishness.

Both Soludo and Sanusi did/are doing a good job.
Peak of childishness. What is the essence of asking us to vote when you campaigned for one candidate. That is the question rigging.

How come then i become a masquerade anytime i enter this evil NL, oga jarus can u pls xplain why
Honestly, with the way some people talk here, even the most gentle person in real life could be turned into a 'tiger' here.
I was discussing about NL with a Hausa colleague, who joined NL recently, and I asked him whether he used to come to Muslims section and he said he didn't use to come because he can't withstand the blasphemy that goes on here. He will become provoked. He can't withstand a non-Muslim calling Allah and the Prophet(PBUH) all sort of names as some do here. That is why he doesn't open this page. And this is a very gentle, easy-going guy in real life.
So your seeming radical nature here, as opposed to your unassuming mien in real life, may be a product of the environment.

Politics › Re: Yoruba Woman Is Adamawa Senator by Jarus(m): 5:19pm On Feb 08, 2010
becomricch:
I did live in Adamawa state.

And beaf you get problem,

The reason she won was because Nyako and Obasanjo were running at that time, look some people won election in the USA because of the Obama factor.

Really Adamawa has mixed people. I live in Mayo belwa, yola, and Numan.

Even the present Governor Murtala Nyako niece was one of my student. His home town is Mayo belwa . If the governor remember very well. The house infront of his house was were the corpers use to live.

I even was living in the governor brother house at that time. The town had a television viewing centre were they watch television , not too far from Nyako house. One of the Nyako family read If i remember very well. Urban and regional planning or was it geography i cant remember. He use to smoke. And the other Nyako never liked him because he was smoking, I think he final was able to teach at the university in Yola, I think that was what I heard when I got back to lagos. He was the radical in the Nyako family. he was a funny man too. He love talking politics too. He use to be very close to my friend , who was a chemistry teacher at the secondary in Mayo balwa. This Nyako family can discuss politics so much, I wonder where he is now.

Tola is another town in mayo belwa local government. that place far my brother. Food stuff was cheap in tola.

Bachama people are mostly christain. 95% of bachama people are christain. The luther church headquarter in Nigeria is in Numan, very close to the Numan general hospital. It is close to road going to gombe. From Yola, the bus use to drop us infront of the luther church , those days.

The head quarter of numan local govt that that time was not too far from the Numan hospital and was just opposite and close to the school.
The luther church use to have a library at that time.

I was in larmode the cradle of the Bachama people. When the hama bachama die many years ago. One of the child was my friend. I was in bolo, ngurore. demsa. I worked at savannah sugar , near Gwana.

In Yola most people are fulani. In song , most people are fulani. In michika some people are fulani. mayo belwa have so fulani too.

Guyuk is not fulani. Jada and Ganye are not fulani.

The mostly fulani area of Adamawa state are Yola South, Yola North, Girei. Fufore, Song, Gombi, and Hong

see the map below. it tell you the fulani areas. the fulani mostly live up the river. but yola was down the river, while larmode is up the river, not too far from savannah sugar area. to the road going to gombe road.

Thanks LagosBoy,I just found out my initial post has been deleted.

@Jarus-I normally avoid joining issues with modeartors but I really feel the level of censorship on this board is getting ridiculous!

One of the earmarks of a great mind is the ability to accept contrary views. I asked a simple question which the well respected Lagosboy has responded to, in detail.

We need to be conscious of INTOLERANCE ! Most times we assume its the uneducated ,unelightened that are intolerant, but actually the level of intolerance exhibited by 'the educated' is unbelievable, tho' exposure also counts(no offence).

You do not have to agree with everything everybody posts, but the individual right to make comments must never be denied.

Please take time & dwell on this.

Deepzone
Kobojunkie

Well at least I still Becomerich
Xavier, I'm still very much around, only that I do more of reading these days than contributing.
Deepzone is also very much around, only that she posts under a new username. In fact, she's on this thread!
As for Kobo, I don't know where she is currently and that's the subject of this thread. I may disagree with her on many issues but there is no denying the fact that she is one of the most incisive contributors to the NL politics section. We need to know where is she is please.

And for the records, Kobo is a woman from Ikorodu. There had been fierce debate over her gender before, with a thread opened to discuss, but shortly before her disappearance, she edited her profile to display her gender. The reason many people doubt her gender is because of her gut; she doesn't come across across as a woman, as many Nigerian women tend to have apathy for politics and political debate. It took time before I also became convinced she's a female.

@Edoyad
The whole of Adamawa is in North-East. No middle-belt here. Chuks is correct with his assertion.

Nice one everybody. Like any other literary effort, I don't expect everybody to share the same view. No. It's just not possible, especially in issues like this.
I knew it will stir debate before posting it here, and that's the beauty of it. We all hold different positions and disagree on different issues. I have never expected my views to be accepted by everybody, but I like making it public, so as to see it challenged, and if convincingly disproved, reviewed.
