A year later, still nobody? |
Abagworo:Orisirisi agbada, buba, kembe, soro. . .kai, that will be very funny o |
I am a Yoruba man and a Muslim and I don't have any problem relating to people of other tribes and religions. I try as much as possible to be detribalized. I have defended Ibo and Hausa/Fulani on NL here in the past. I was labelled 'Fulani behind-licking guy' by somebody on NL. Of course, as a proud Yoruba man, I have genuinely defended my tribe from what undue bashing too. I am a practising Muslim, and the moderator of the Muslims section on NL. I am even more active in Politics section, and sometime Sports, where I relate and agree with other non-Muslim political contributors on various issues. Ditto for other sections. Many people here did not even know my religious affiliation. Ethnic and religious bigotry, I believe, cuts across all tribes and religions in Nigeria. I lost an election in the University because of my religious affiliation. I have met people that dislike me for no other reason than my religious affiliation. And in the same vein, I have seen people of different faiths and tribes that passionately defend me in matters some people would have allowed religious and tribal sentiments to override their objectivity. On NL here for example, popular Funmi Deepzone(I prefer to call her by real name cos she changes ID from time to time) is one of my passionate defenders, especially on that 'Kwara goat' thread that somewhere degenerated to Jarus/Ife-Eco-06 bashing some two years ago. And this is someone that dislikes my religion passionately. She doesn't let that becloud her sense of reasoning. Conversely, the only reason why some people dislike me on NL here is because I am a Muslim, so anything I say elsewhere, they look at it from religious prism and start attacking me. In real life, I think it is not this bad, especially in Lagos. Lagos is very cosmopolitan and people hardly care about your religion and tribe. I work in an office that has many Hausa and Ibo and we all relate perfectly. I'm not saying I'm totally immuned from the almost natural inclination to have religious and tribal sentiment reflect in one's action, but I try to nip in the bud before acting on the prompting. I will never deny a more quailified Christian or atheist or Hausa or Ibo a job or an opportunity because I share a different view from him/her. That's a no-no. This is why ThisDay columnist Simon Kolawole remains my favourite analyst. Through his 'Simon Kolawole live' column on ThisDay on Sunday, he has been preaching one Nigeria, despite being a born-again Christian and an Ekiti Yoruba man. |
Ivorian Didier Drogba has been voted BBC African footballer of the year, beating Samuel Eto'o and three others to the award. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/8448439.stm |
'All-time' and 'in the last decade' are two different words with different words. 'All-time' and 'ever' are interchangeably used. I guess you mean 'best striker in the alst decade'. I don't think that is debatable. Ronaldo De Lima has it. But if you mean 'all-time', i.e 'best striker ever', that will be subject to debate and I don't think I can answer that. |
@post: The truth is Islam is a vicious faith and the origin of it is from the Quran. The evidence of all these is there for all to see. Recently Farouk AbdulMuttalab attempted to blow himself up in an aeroplane bound for Detroit. What type of religion will teach someone to blow himself up ? Certainly that religion does not come from God.
Hey, Islam did not teach Farouk to blow himself up. |
FUNMZIE:You're welcome |
justfash50:Uplawal don get her alfa o . . .as yours sincerely is working out a work-in-process Hajia ![]() |
Abuzola and toba's posts of threat deleted. Abu Zola:I have always upheld it, except when I have not seen it. |
iwaboy:Nice input. These organizations are trying to return people to the path of pristine Islam as against the spread of innovative practices. I am personally a product a product of MSSN as the little I know about Islam was inspired by MSSN while in the Uni. |

Yes, but we will give a fiercer resistance. Obasanjo's assertiveness could be of help here. |
MUNEER2:Same here, half way already, but will struggle to finish b4 monghrib insha Allah. |
Barka Juma'ah. Got to mosque quite early today, unlike previous weeks. The Imam prayed for Yar'adua and talked about Farouk. |
Igba odun, odun kan |

We've started writing Egypt off again. . . as we did in Ghana two years back! |

Zimex:Yes, I catch you. So you spend the whole day on internet when I travel. I'll be back from vacation. |
My dear bro, it's okay to be choosy, just do it rightfully. For example, if you choose a muslim lady that doesn't pray (as she should) over a christian lady that claims to wannabe a muslim in order to marry u, you are RIGHT.It's not possible. I wont approach a lady that doesn't pray or cover her head in the first place. That's the minimum. But don't choose a lady simply because she is from Ilorin and not from Lagos (very typical of Ilorin people - my mother is from there and my father has Ilorin family ties too). There are ladies in Lagos who are very religious, respectful, highly educated and BEAUTIFUL too. I understand you are trying to please your parents in that regards but my dear, don't waste your time, most importantly don't loose a potential lifetime partner to tribalism.I abhor tribalism in its minutest form. I passionately dislike this 'marry only Kwara' thing our parents do. I have been a rebel in the family because of this strange stance. I try to make them see reason that I don't care even she's oyinbo or Igbo, in as much as she's a Muslim. I told them they can't stop me. And in fact, if Hajara's had worked out, I would have stood my ground to standstill and I know after serious persuasion, they would finally accept and bless it. I was ready to break the tradition by marrying that Nupe lady but due to to tribalism in her own family too, it didn't work out. So I don't subscribe to tribalism at all. I don't have any problem with Lagos ladies personally, but then, one needs to respect one's parent's wish and amke them happy, even as one tries to convince them that tribalism is not allowed in Islam. |

While I see nothing wrong in a President engaging in some funny, amusing acts once in a while( a la Obasanjo), I don't think failure to do so has anything to do with performance. |
