House of assembly member on FB as big deal? Soludo, Senator Gbemi Saraki, ex-Minister Modibbo are all my friends on FB. Fashola and a number of his commissioners are on FB. This is not to mention Obama and others already listed here. |
zayhal:Ten people turned up. Myself, oyb, alimat2, javalove, igbalajobi, showbobo, aremugangan, yemi22, D-fearless and one other person. It was fun and interesting. We prayed our moghrib prayer at a mosque in VI and later proceeded to Mama Cass restaurant for the chop. For personal reasons, we have decided not to put the pictures here, but below is the food is the extra food we jokingly called Abuzola's food. Abuzola was absent. The hands you are seeing are those of Nairalanders.

Let me set the ball rolling by sharing this with all. We can all learn one or two things from it, as well as give valuable advice. The challenge I'm currently having in my life has to do with settling down. I never believed I will have problem finding the right partner. By the special grace of almighty Allah, I'm from an OK family, not doing badly myself and almighty Allah has been so merciful to this small, lazy bone. When I was in school I always boasted to my friends that I will never have difficult finding the right lady. I have seen quite a number that caught my attention. In my final year in the university, when my friends were scrambling to hook one Hajia or the other, I also made one or two efforts but didn't yield pisitive result. I was fortunate to get a nice job in an investment banking institution just a couple of weeks after graduating. Being from a polygamous, but intricately united, Islamic home, and my parents knowing the deadliness of being single in corporate Lagos, my parents were worried about my settling down, at least they wanted to know the 'lady'. I didn't have any. There was pressure from friends and family. Everybody was eager to know the lady. It was difficult telling them I had not found any yet. Not having Hajia at 24 was unbelievable to many, but I always joked it away. Our parents and family in Kwara are not so disposed to us marrying a Lagos-raised lady. My elder brother despite being a full Lagos person, finished from Unilag and was already a top corporate executive before marrying, was not allowed to marry a Lagos lady, he was brought home to marry. That is how selective our family are.[This is no disrespecting our Lagos sisters. You are all good. In fact, I personally don't subscribe to that idea, but we must respect our parents wish]. So the same thing was being applied to me. They kept warning me never to date Lagos person. I kept assuring them that there was no problem. But working 5.am to 11pm everyday in Lagos, there was just no way I can meet the type of lady my parents want. |
showbobo:Just stay tuned. . . ![]() |
Salam alaikum, 'Religion is sincere advice', says the prophet(PBUH). It is in this light that I feel the 'Islam for Muslims' section of Nairaland should go beyond arguing and debating to sharing meaningful advice and experience, while not drifting from Islamic prescription. Sometime last Ramadan, some of us Lagos Muslim nairalanders had a joint iftar(breaking of fast) at a restuarant in VI here. It's going to be an annual event insha Allah and we will look at the possibility of holding similar event in other locations like Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and London where we have a considerable number of Nairaland Muslims. That is how far the bond has grown. And I believe we can do better. This thread is yet another initiative I have decided to put up for sharing of events(the cheery and the worrying) in our lives. THE CHEERY -Is there anything good happening in your life you feel like sharing with us? -Is there any decision options you are undecided about? -Wish to share your good news with us? -Any challenge in your life that you have surmounted and wish to share with us? THE WORRYING -Is there any worrying event in your life? -Are you troubled with job searching or similar unpalatable post-school events? -Are you undergoing some depression in your life? -Are you undergoing a test of faith? -What is happening in your spiritual life? -What about your mundane life? -Or is it marital challenge? This is not a miracle centre please, just a forum for sharing of mutually beneficial information and advice. You never can tell which advice can change your life or other people can benefit from your advice or experience. Our in-house ustazs, Olabowale, Babs787, Lagosboy, Muhsin and others are more than capable of giving those spiritual tonics, strictly from Qur'an and Sunnah and rightly guided scholars. If you don't want to let us know your identity, just send an anonymous mail to jarusnairaland@yahoo.com and your challenge will be posted here strictly under anonymity and informed advice, based on Qur'an and Sunnah, will be given, which you can read yourself. This is strictly for Muslims and I will try as much as possible to guide it from derailment, but serious contribution from non-Muslims are welcome. Maa salaam, Jarus, Moderator |
I agree with you. He should be tried for that position. |
semid4lyfe:Much as I do not know much about your activities here, I don't think the number of posts you have here or the number of hours you spend here determine your meriting a nomination. It's more of the value of your contribution and the passion than the quantity. I may also not be a top poster here but I know I'm usually one of the earliest and consistent contributors and in fact a regular thread starter on Nigerian football, especially the during the raging debates on Mikel Obi, Super Eagles, world-classness of our players, Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles, JJ Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo etc. To this end, I'm not totally surprised Dr. Kit noticed my humble efforts and mentioned me for nomination, even though it is obvious that somebody like Sagamite(who got my vote anyway) is more deserving of it, being a resident contributor rather than those of us that only buzzed in only when SE have matches or there is a raging debate. So for that same reason somebody like Dr. Kit mentioned my name, FBS could also have been noticing your valuable, rather than quantitative, contributions. The number of posts is not that important. You deserve it. tkb417: ![]() Don't worry. It's in the pipeline. We Mods and Admin really mean it this year. We've held meetings on it, and concluded that it's coming into two batches. The general awards will come up after the sectional awards and the results will be officially published. Among the general awards are the best Mod award. Just watch out. |
If all thé voters arê well informed and fully conversant with events here, I honestly expect thé result to be like this: 1st: Ajanlekoko 2nd: Tkb417 3rd: oyb |
My best boss ever was the Head of Corporate Finance in the investment banking institution I briefly worked for. I have come to observe that female bosses are either extremely wicked or overly kind and nice. My boss was among the few that belong to the latter category. What a woman! Very nice and kind, always pampering me in the unit, not minding my naivety as a fresh grad that just left school few weeks ago, with no prior work experience. |
In all humility, I think ICAN exams as they are structured now are one of the cheapest exams around. Being an Econs grad with no background in Accounting, I started from foundation and now on the verge of qualifying. I think the hype about ICAN being so difficult is exaggerated. Baby, don't be scared. Face it. I crash for ICAN in five days and pass at ease, including winning prizes. One thing I've come to realize is that you don't need to even finish syllabus before passing(I don't cover 15% of the syllabus sometimes). Go through enough past questions and examine the solutions. You don't need any cramming, just understand the principles, just familiarize yourself with major topics. I'm surprised you said elsewhere that you've written PE1 five times, failing FA1 and tax repeatedly. That FA1, Nov 08 diet, is the cheapest exam I've ever seen in my life, source documents, benefits of IT in accounting etc. Things one can easily answer without ever opening an Accounting textbook. I agree idea may not be able to work in Tax, but then, if you can pass Costing and Audtiting in Intermediate, I see no reason why you can't pass FA1 or Tax. Yes, you can. It's very surmountable. Just keep trying |
FBS, At the risk of being accused of protesting, I think there is nothing that says a mod cannot be nominated, especially if it is not the the section the person moderates. Some Mods made the nominee list in other sections. This is just a note though, as I recognise your decision as a Mod is final. I'm even flattered my name was suggested. If anything, dominique is more consistent ,as she is consisitent poster on Naija sports. I have already voted for Sagamite though. |
It was a hard decision seeing myself on the nominees list, yet dropping my vote for Ajanlekoko. |
beejaei:O n wa yan ni, abi on safojo? Are you looking for somebody or escaping from the rain? |
Is it that you can't access the result after voting or you can't access the poll to vote? If the former is the case, then it's deliberate because we don't want the result viewable. The result will generally be announced alongside results of other sections officially before the end of the year or early next year by God's grace. If the latter, then let me know so that we can rectify whatever is wrong and make you be able to vote. |
A big thank you to everybody for honouring the call to change our signature to reflect the one year anniversary of this thread. We may now change our signatures. Thanks. |
adedayoone:During our service year, a friend entered Zenith to open a saving account with 5k, but he was embarrassed out of the bank, felt like being swallowed by the ground. He wasn't politely told the the minimum amount he needed to open a saving account was 25k, rather he was looked down upon. The guy has not stopped cursing teh abnk till today ![]() Agree Zenith na big boys bank. GTB's oft-mentioned excellent customer service is also gradually fading away. I lost my ATM and applied for another one about two months ago, yet to be given one. Before anytime, I lost my ATM, they gave me another one in less than 3 weeks. Don't mind my penchance for losing ATM cards, I've lost up to 5 in the last 2 years. |
chosen04:No. It's at Admin's discretion. You apply and he feels it's worth it, he changes it for you. I changed mine before I became a Mod. |
busybody20:Doubt if I have ever met the bolded in my two and half years on NL. |
Ifez:Read it. Quite interesting. I like short stories I can grab and finish in two hours like that than long stories. I have never read a novel. |
Obama's Audacity of Hope. Got it at the MMA1 last week Friday. |
symbianDON:Traveled this road before. Truly bad but has lesser rate of accident tha Mokwa-Jebba road. |
toba:You really need help. . . .you've been told several times that the Somali act has no Sharia basis. |
MrCrackles:Krakus, ehannan adinni of NL Muslims section . . . . . u no serious o. ![]() @Poster, Most scholars, including Sheikh Munnajid, say it is haraam. A very few scholars say it is permissible, but I personally find more convincing the argument of those that say it's haraam for these reasons: 1, It involves imagining doing it with somebody, which is prostitution of the mind. 2, The prophet has expressly advised that whosoever cannot hold it to him/herself again should go and marry. MB, as a way of staying away from prostitution, as claimed by soem people, is therefore invalid. Allah knows best. |
oyb:abi o, sacrifice ![]() The girl is more important than the shoes na ![]() |
Jarus:The funniest thing was that this my friend went all the way from Ife to UI beacuse of one sister . We were in final year then and everybody was trying to get one Hajia to stick to and evetually marry. My friend abandoned friday lectures, travelled to UI to meet thsi sister. He was wearing a multi-thousand naira shoe he bought recently. When he came back to room later in the evening, we just realized that our friend was unusually gentle. He just lied on the bed. After teasing him, he told us that (1) the Hajia did not accept for him and (2) they stole his shoe at UI central mosque where he had gone to pray Juma'at and he had to ask for one old pam slippers from a friend in UI. We can't stop laughing Till today, I still remind him of that incident and we laugh it off.Guess what? He has done introduction with that sister a couple of months ago. |
Go to Unilag. If you know what you are doing, a Unilag degree sells more. |
The Arik aircraft I travelled withj to Ilorin last week Friday was equally horrible. Throughout the 40 minutes flight, the aircraft was producing some very unusual sound like Okada. I was even joking with other passengers that is this aircraft or kabu kabu? I have come to observe that old aircrafts that are usually not in best of shapes are used for short new routes like Ilorin, Akure etc, and the good ones for Lagos, Kano, Kano, etc |
Seun:Now this is interesting . . . . |
Not everybody will be included. It was diificult arriving at these two. Let's just stick to these two, while appreciating the efforts of others too. |
Salam, Furtherance to the forum-wide selection of Best Poster in each section for the outgoing year, we have opened this thread to select the best poster in our dear section. This is official and efforts are underway by all Mods and Admin to have First Official Nairaland Awards. Part of the award categories is Best Poster in each section. To this end, Lagosboy and Muhsin have been nominated as 'Islam for Muslims Section Posters of the Year'. We want to prune down the list to one and we need your input. Kindly click the one you feel deserves the award. The poll closes next week Friday insha Allah. We appreciate and recognize the efforts of every poster, from our reverred Imam and father, Olabowale, to our upcoming sister, Uplawal. We thank everybody that has contributed positively to this section. Only Allah can reward you. BRIEF CITATION OF THE NOMINEES LAGOSBOY UK-based Lagosboy joined NL in December 2008 and has contributed actively to this section in the year. He is not known for cursing or abusing, hard as it is to be a complete gentleman in this forum, and in this section in particular. He is a very intelligent and knowledgable young man that has been deploying his knowledge to the advancement of this section. His dexterity in debating is awesome, as is his grasp of contemporary issues. His threads, one on educating female Muslims about their deen and the civil way he answers Ifyalways' questions on Islam, plus other valuable contributions, stand him out in the outgoing year. MUHSIN Kano-based Muhsin is a very knowledgable brother that has taken it upon himself to passionately defend Islam and good Muslims here. He has been a consistent contributor to this section since 2006, and has not relented in his efforts. He is also not given to fighting, tempting as it is. Coming from a region that is especially not known for softness in matters of religion, Muhsin's maturity is worth commending and appreciating. He has continued to feed us with daily spiritual tonic through his thread on Hadith of the Day. Muhsin is no doubt a worthy ambassador of Muslims on NL. Maa Salam, Jarus, Moderator |

) . I only started coming to this section in the last 3/4 months or there about of this year, I don't support any football club and hence I hardly post in the football sub-board (don't think I've posted in that subsection more than 10 times this year) and I only post in this section just some days before, during or after any of our National team matches or sometimes just on some topical issues concerning our National teams. I doubt if any of the regular posters on this board know me sef. I think my Nairaland User Statistics says it all.
