It's better to be safe than sorry.protect yourself Was in Enugu for a period to carry out some work. In appreciation I went to a shop one evening and asked for a bottle of Pink Lady to offer my hosts as I was to leave the following day. Getting to the house I decided to make sure the case looked clean. You can imagine my horror when the graphics on the package looked odd, on second look I noticed there was a "C" between the N and K!! Quick, I opened the bottle no hiss, I tasted it, kaaiii, it was something else! To save myself, I discretely did away with the bottle and offered cash to my hosts and left the next day... Imagine the embarrassment if they had opened and drank out of that when I had left! Probably might think I was out to poison them!! |

Eriokanmi: Lies. They're just playing a title for tat game ni. Our government said their university certificate was worth nothing, which had discouraged Nigerians from assessing a more cheaper education in Benin without strike. They banned importation of rice from Benin for years. Which reasonable neighbour does that when the fed government understood the meaning of comparative advantage?
While the ban was in force, they didn't even do anything locally to empower youths and Local farmers to upgrade their rice farming to a large scale one rather, they went to Abuja and built up fake rice pyramid to make their gullible supporters think their wicked policy was working. During the closed border, Benin Republic invested more in tourism and used same to boost their economy. I visit there always. You'd see foreigners on the streets of Benin as of you're in Europe. That's a country that's serious. During the period, their currency obertook ours by a wide margin, what used to be a useless currency in africa.
There was no allegation the Nigerian government didn't level against Benin which included fuel smuggling. Has that caused our fuel price to come down, now that border had been closed? Had that impacted our economy positively? I leave you to answer that. Benin also goes to same place we import fiel from, to buy. It's an open market
Let me correct you on your last paragraph...Benin can do much more, without us if they could survive years of border closure. What exactly do we export to them? Nothing! Thanks for this perspective. Only those who don't travel or those who travel without proper information will label Benin a small country. The Nigeria economy was booming and Benin looked to us, guess what? Nigerian people went there to diminish themselves via their institutions and illicit activities! Same way they're doing in Togo another "small" nation! In fact, Benin bleeds Nigeria and yet Nigeria hasn't taken any advantage of that country! An ant can bring down an elephant, all it needs is the little bites! |

CrownedPhoenix: Congratulations to Davido and his wife, Chioma.
That aside, we must find ways as a country to stop celebrating ill-gotten wealth on national scale.
The second part of this post refers to any ill-gotten wealth being celebrated, regardless who. You're right! Imagine that in the face of all the distress in Nigeria these rich guys are insensitive to the plight of the poor. At least half the money sprayed on a fellow rich guy would have gone to addressing shortage of small scale industry or farm or something just enough to start someone on, and the results can show in the long term. Yes government is really responsible for such but with private hands in it there can be some respite. |

AmiableMosquito: At least two people have now been reported dead. This has become a perennial issue, occurring for several consecutive years.
Well, I am almost certain Wike will demolish houses in that area because that estate is obviously sitting on a canal or major drainage. And for good measure if he starts demolition, some will call him wicked, bigot and some others will say he's targeting some particular tribe. Funny that if you asked a resident of the estate about the situation, they will say "God is in control"....no one will be proactive about it. |
