Hi Jay bee,

Thanks. I am not a the moment executing any performance work, I am just trying to build knowledge for my own sake.

It is not like if there is a pertinent work I have to complete.

From the little you have put, I guess it might be very technical what your knowledge base is. I am slowly trying to build a more high level knowledge like a Balanced Scorecard implementation.

Thanks anyway.
Not very technical depending on what you are reporting on. For me, the data i use is normally put together by a little data manipulation, random data sampling, database activity reports and basic statistical calculations in excel to feed into a bigger picture which in turn is turned into a monthly metrics. I normally produce one first week of every month (I am about to start on July's figures).

As for balance scorecard, i don't deal with such directly but we do have a performance and monitoring department at my workplace and i think its used for strategic planning and management system to align business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization, improve internal and external communications, and monitor organization performance against strategic goals.
I can send you an example of a balance scorecard if u wish sha.

Thanks, Ebonyj. I get you.

You will see what I do on page 4 of this topic.

I asked because a lot of my work has to be implemented and a key part of linking the implementation to the developed strategy is developing the Performance metrics. This is an area I am getting interested in and I have not done much on. So I just wanted to know more from you.
I might also be able to help ya on the performance metrics.
What targets/success are you trying to measure?
Does it have anything to do with statistics alas showing the results with graphical representation?

Subject: URGENT

Good Day!

I am Chief James Ibori, the former Executive Governor of Delta State of Nigeria.
Without much ado I have to go straight to the point of my having to contact you. Right now I am undergoing a serious probe from the present President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for misappriation of funds. I hereby confidentially inform you that I have the sum of $200,000.000.00 (Two Hundred Million USD) that I want to move into the safe custody of a foriegn partner who will invest it for me and for your participation I will give you 40% of the total sum when you receive the funds.

I can get this fund to you through any means of your choice be it through wire transfer or I can package and pass it through your international airport through a diplomatic means.

Please. let me know immediately if you can help me receive and secure this funds and please if by any means you are not interested in this business proposal I implore you to delete this message and never disclose its contents to any third party.

Thank You for your time
J. Ibori
If someone ever falls for this then such individual needs to be sent back to solitary confinement for 5years as punishment for being stupid.
First question is why would ibori contact me (just any random dude from the pool of 150 billion peeps)?

Funny but annoying that some gullible westerners will still fall for this cheap shot!
Politics › Ivorien Ministers Take 50% Pay Cut To Subsidise Fuel by jaybee3(op): 10:33am On Jul 23, 2008
The government of Cote d?Ivoire has decided to cut the salaries of its ministers by half in order to fund a reduction in the cost of fuel.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported yesterday that the Ivorien Prime Minister Guillaume Soro said the managers of state-owned companies would also have their pay cut in half to pay for the 10 per cent cut in fuel prices.

Overseas trips by government members would also be reduced to a "bare minimum", he said, according to the BBC report.

"Having heard the people's cry from the heart, the government has decided to cut the price of fuel," Soro said.

A week-long announcement of strike by public transport workers has been called off following the announcement of government?s decision.

Soro said running costs and investments in government departments would also be cut to help cope with the extra expenditure.

Housewives took to the streets banging pots and pans, youths built burning barricades and at least one man was killed in March and April as escalating food prices sparked violent protests in Abidjan.

The government agreed on Sunday to cut the fixed price of diesel fuel to partially offset a hefty rise earlier this month that caused a disruptive transport strike last week in the world's top cocoa grower.

Soro said the price cut and other concessions to transporters would cost the state 200 billion CFA francs ($484 million), the Economic Times website reported yesterday.

Soro, who met union leaders on Saturday, announced the measures at a news conference late on Sunday after an extraordinary cabinet meeting chaired by President Laurent Gbagbo approved the moves.

The price of diesel, which the government raised earlier this month by 44 per cent to 785 CFA francs ($1.90) per litre to better reflect high world crude oil prices, saw the biggest cut, falling 100 francs to 685 francs per litre, he said.

That and other concessions, including a six-month extension of the deadline for payment of road tax, would help reduce the cost of transport and combat food price inflation, Soro said.

"We have decided to create a surveillance committee to check that the prices are being respected , we will reinforce measures against racketeering," Soro said.

The cost of paraffin, used extensively for lighting and other purposes in households lacking electricity, was also cut to 490 CFA francs/litre from 550.

Civil servants, who number 90,000-100,000, saw their monthly transport allowance more than doubled to 5,000 CFA from 2,000.

"These efforts drawn up and agreed by the government amount to 200 billion CFA francs, which will have to be found from somewhere," said Soro, a former northern rebel leader who was appointed prime minister last year under a deal to reunite the country after a 2002-2003 war.

"As a result we have decided to reduce state expenses, starting with cutting by half salaries for all government ministers , and managing directors of state or parastatal enterprises," he said.

Soro said running costs and investments in government departments would also be cut to help cope with the extra expenditure and reduction in state revenues resulting from the various concessions.

Career › Re: Are Foreign Graduates That Much Better Than Nigerian Graduates by jaybee3(m): 3:52pm On Jul 22, 2008
Sagamite:
I think this has to be put in perspective.

1) Those with foreign degrees vs those with local degrees

2) Those with foreign degrees and/or experience vs those with local degrees and/or experience.

For (1), we would be assuming both would be applying for entry level.

It is obvious that the academic experience in foreign universities is far better than the local universities hence you are more likely to get a better candidate by hiring someone with a foreign degree than one with a local degree. Hence the premium you pay for foreign degree holders is well justified.

For (2), an employer would have to set a list of criteria for a job and test candidates against this list.

More often than not, the individual with the foreign degrees and/or experience would excel more in a professional and "doing the best work" environment as he has functioned at the optimal environment for this. So in most cases, the foreign degrees and/or experience holder would be most qualified or have the best potential than a local so would be paid more. Even if the local is hired due to lack of other quality candidates, most times (NOT all), you get someone with a mentality of "that is good enough, we don try" instead of "is this the best work ever done" hence the lower attraction to locals by employers.

But if a local over time develops and demonstrate all the right qualities for the role that a foreign degrees and/or experience holder has then I don't see why not he can not achieve the same remuneration.

For example, I have seen the CVs of some people that graduated from Nigerian universities with and without work experience, some on Nairaland. Based on the structuring of a simple thing such as a CV, I can guarantee you I would not hire them because their attempt is just appalling. Their professionalism level is just low.

When friends move to UK and complain to me that they kind find a job despite their experience working for big companies in Nigeria, the first thing I ask for is their CV. And immediately I get it, I ALWAYS see why.
Said it all.
Also looked at the CV's and def wouldn't employ from the one's posted.
Mistakes and lies told was so glaring dat it's untrue.
