You are very correct Ishi, but sometimes you look at those innocent kids and you can't ignore. I wish we have social services here. Bringing innocent kids into the world to suffer is a crime or should be a crime.

Make person no do the generousity wey go land you for wahala. I am getting tougher sha.
Remember this mantra, 'in this life we come alone and we will go alone' If the "irresponsible" people who bring the innocent children to suffer don't give a care, why should I? All those "na God dey train pikin" crew will make deliberately wrong decisions and choices and expect someone else to pay for it?

Attached below is the guide on custom website
I am a clearing agent. This is the Harmonised System Tarriff that contains hs codes of all articles and their duty rates. You can download it on trade.gov.ng For used cars and LCL consignments with CIF value of less than 5,000 USD you can apply for valuation from the customs command the consignment is stowed. These goods mostly don't come with PAAR. The tariff you posted doesn't reflect 0.5% ETLS, 7% SURCHARGE on duty, and 1% CISS which are included in the calculation of duty payable.

Openbusiness:
Well sir, what I mean is by current laws, full duty is 70%. But in reality, maybe only 1% people ever pay that, because it's too expensive, even for the wealthy. Remember the GEJ government implemented the laws to discourage car importation and encourage local manufacturing or car assembly plants by these foreign manufacturers. But these foreign car manufacturers didn't come, but unfortunately the 70% duty law remained in effect. But in practice, most clearing agents still clear with the old clearing charges, then grease a few palms, and car is released. This is the general system that even customs themselves allow behind the scenes. And that's why their bosses then setup FOU taxforces to close the loopholes and generate revenue, and also do eye service to the presidency that they are working. It is like the case of VIO, many un-roadworthy vehicles have roadworthiness certificates that they got direct from VIO themselves, they just paid money and got certificate, no vehicle inspection done by VIO before certification. But then VIO will still go on the road and such unroadworthy vehicles will be impounded when caught. More money for the government. Money 1 from issuing certificate to the un-roadworthy vehicle and Money 2, revenue from impounded cars before it is released. So in a way, it is a corrupt government system of like government selling guns to the thieves, then the same government will arrest the thieves for armed robbery and collect the guns back cheesy. But let me draw the line that I'm not speaking for the agent here, I don't know him, I don't know the OP and I'm not in anyway involved in this matter. I'm just talking in general terms based on my own understanding. But I'm waiting for the experts to come in and shed more light on this matter.
That exactly is the issue. 35% duty +35% LEVY, 7% SURCHARGE on duty, 0.5% ETLS 5% VAT. add Shipping, Terminal and clearing agent fee, you are spending like 95% of the FOB VALUE of your car. Check am na, who fit pay the correct duty?

222Martins:
Thanks for your suggestion. Maybe you should put an estimated figure to the shipping charges and terminal charges so we can do the maths.
I am a clearing agent but I don't do cars (too much stress and little money inside) The shipping company charges for RORO vehicle is fixed but I can't tell the exact figure right now buy it should be less than 100k. The terminal charges isn't fixed as the car might spend more than the normal 3 days free rent they give, after that, demmurrage charges accrues. Some clearing agents won't even pay up to that amount. Those Customs gnomes just want to extort you as it is a fairly recent vehicle that is recently cleared. Even if you should have given them something, it shouldn't be more than 20k (even too much sef, jus be say na SUV).
your argument should be that as long as your VALUATION gotten from customs is genuine and not tampered with and you paid according to the valuation, they have NO REASON to impound your car. If that is the case, insist that the valuation officers that signed the CUSTOMS VALUATION should be arrested too or you take legal action but in the meantime they should give you assessment for the extra duty that you want to pay. If you pay that, even the President cannot disturb you.
You can take the vehicle document to the customs command (Longroom) through which it was cleared (I think it will be PTML or TINCAN) command. They will use the C-Number to check the database verify your valuation and payment status (for a 'fee')
Good luck.
AutosRe: Beware!! My 2014 GX460 Cleared By Adexfem Was Impounded By Custom Officers Today by jaymichael(m): 10:22pm On Nov 21, 2019
222Martins:
So the 2014 GX460 i pre-ordered from Manheim through KakakiAutos since July finally arrived this November 2019. You can see the thread here: https://www.nairaland.com/5281450/experience-buying-2014-lexus-gx460

KakakiAutos recommended AdexFem as the clearing agent. In his words, "Using AdexFem will cost you more than other agents because Adexfem pays full duty on cars he clears, unlike other agents that cut corners."

I said good, i will rather go with the expensive Adexfem option and have peace of mind than being penny wise pound foolish. So i was billed N2.750M (Two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) to clear the vehicle with full duty paid and i transferred the full sum same day. Only to have my vehicle impounded today and taken to the customs office because Adexfem decided to shortchange the Government; after collecting full payment from me.

Continued: Those who have done business with me on Nairaland like Gazzuzz and others know that i don't pinch pennies, and i hate cutting corners. Out of the N2.750M handed over to him for clearance, Adexfem paid a duty of N1.5M plus other minor charges bringing the total receipted sum he paid to N1.9M.

The most annoying part of this whole incident was that while the driver was on the road today, i kept asking repeatedly if the full duty was paid so that the driver will know his stand when dealing with the custom officers on the road. Adexfem kept reassuring me that the full duty was paid. My driver and escort had a rough day along the road with the customs until we got to custom checkpoint 4 and we were asked to go pay full duty or settle them with N200k.

N200k settlement at checkpoint 4, after paying N2.750M with about 7 or more checkpoints to go through. angry angry angry angry The custom officers requested to know how much exactly was given to our clearing agent (Adexfem) for the car. My driver called Adexfem to speak with the officers but he only made matters worst by name dropping and telling them that this is Nigeria.

The custom officers got annoyed with his statement and impounded the car. I got across to Adexfem and he said it would have been better we spent N200k settling them than allowing them take the car to their office. That was when he opened up that he paid N1.9M total and used the N850k or there about to grease palms at the port. shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

To be Continued!!!
Ask for the valuation and duty payable on your vehicle and request for them to raise the D/N, generate assessment for you to go pay. Don't settle them. You can pay the Assesed Duty yourself . They can't impound your car as long as it was genuinely cleared and you paid the exact amount the valuation at the port gave you to pay. Of the whole sum you gave your clearing agent, he will pay Shipping charges, Terminal charges and other running expenses out of it.
Good Luck

Grammy award is for musicians- people who are skilled composers, songwriters, and instrumentalists. Grammy is not for freestyle artistes; not for people that sample other people's work or artistes with incoherent lyrics like the Nigerian pop artistes except for a handful that Burna boy is not part of. Burna boy does good music to some extent though but Agelique Kidjo is a musician, Grammy is for musicians and that's why Grammy is called an academic award.

I have been following the Grammies for years now, I will tell you that I was surprised to see burna boy on that list (no hating please, am just being academic and practical here). But incase Burna boy wins, then the standard for winning was reduced. Gaskia!
True.
Music/RadioRe: Why Angelique Kidjo Is Burna Boy’s Biggest Threat In Grammy Awards Category by jaymichael(m):
Litmus:
Without prejudice, Burna would win, but Nigerians must always factor in prejudices against them the more popular they become. I know Nigerians do not like this type of thinking since we dismiss such thoughts as carrying unnecessary complexes, but I’m trying to be brave in making these points. To put it simply and politely, French influence will always work against Nigerian interest when Nigerians compete against French West Africans for international/global positions likewise the English will back East Africans against Nigerians unless the Nigerian in questions is too unassailable. America may be fairer to Nigerians but blacks like Nigerians are subconsciously threatening to the world and even blacks are unconsciously susceptible to these biases since they invariable see the world, without realising, it through white eyes. In short, judgment may not be objective and may boil down to sentiments that resent Burnaboy for being too popular, winning here and there and threatening the music genre status quo. He is not a safe and patroniseable African like Angelique.
I haven't listened to Angelique's Celia album but if you have listened to two of her old songs 'Naima' featuring Carlos Santana and her version of "We are one" a soundtrack to the Lion King movie, (perfect blend of English and her FONGBE language) you will understand what Burna boy is up against. I still listen to her album I have had for close to 15 years now. These words of hers from her song still moves me till tomorrow "I'VE BEEN AWAY FOR SO LONG AND I WONDER OF THE SONG OF THE DRUM STILLS HAS ITS POWERS" Her songs has the powers to give you an out of body experience.
NB: I forgot to tell you to go listen to her song "Africa"

I don't think the RN8 will be below 60k because the RN7 I bought was around 67k. Personally, I love the U notch and IR blaster abd that's the reason why I bought the RN7.

I just watch the review on YouTube and I swear the phone is dope, getting my soon if the price of RN8 is higher
The Lenovo k5 pro is a very good phone. I used iy for like 3 months before I bought the RN7 and gave the Lenovo to my wife. The only downside is the ZUI which is very light. Zui doesn't have much features like the MIUI. It has a feature that functions like MIUI second space but you can't compare it to MIUI. The boot time is faster than my RN7 despite having a higher processor. The phone is fast and emphasis is placed on RAM MANAGEMENT.
Good luck.

Nobody kuku can force me to buy asoebi. The last time I bought aso ebi was for an annual church program two years and it was sold for almost triple the amount. The following year I locked up and refused to buy the aso ebi. I and my mum were the only people in church who didn't buy and we stuck out like white people among negroes. Wetin consine me? I chop the rice well and danced like dancing was going out of style. I REFUSE to be extorted.

Op let your madam buy the aso ebi with her money. Like someone said here, to spend someone else's money dey sweet.
The last annual convention we had in church earlier this year, they announced aso ebi #4,500 for 6 yards. I told them that God didn't send the GO to go around selling aso ebi and I told my wife I won't buy. Some days before the event, they brought some (from our pastor's wife) for myself, my wife, son and my mum without my consent at the reduced rate of #3,500 for 6 yards. I was furious that I told my wife and mother that if the clothes spend 30 minutes in my room, I will burn it and they will pay the igbese. My wife kuku obey.

I think your wife is just being interested in what people will say if she doesn't buy. But for someone like me I don't care. That was how one of my relatives brought Asoebi for me to buy for her wedding. How much she said 25k and I told her bluntly that I can't afford it cuz I just finished my own wedding then and my own Asoebi was 2k. In fact I never wanted it at all but my mum was saying how it will look beautiful. Even my hubby was willing to pay but for me I refused cuz I felt it was a total waste of fund so no need. Till today she doesn't talk to me and me no send.
Tell that your relatives that I said SHE CAN GO TO HELL. I won't buy any ado-ebi that is more than #2,500. Me I don't sell aso ebi for my occasions. My wife sef knows that if she brings aso ebi for any of our occasions, I go BURN the clothes. She knows I am serious about it. If you can't do your occasion without stressing other people, then don't do it as your power carry.
