AjalaDtraveller: I have one experienced medical doctor friend here. He works in the warehouse. He is passing through difficult exams and certifications and he said he needs to pass them to be retrained, although it's shorter term than for a fresher. But it's really been tough for him. This is someone who was qualified to work before. Yes you may relocate but you have to pass through this hurdles to finally get the licence to be able to practice in first world countries. Its not as easy as people think. It depends on the country. Lots of Nigerians are able to complete the UK licensing exams from start to finish in under a year. They do this while still working in Nigeria and now migrate and start work after the exams. Moving to countries like Saudi Arabia is easier. The issue is migrating without a stable source of income before passing exams. Also, one should know what countries are in more need of doctors and hen8less bottlenecks. For Example, Canada doesn't need as much doctors in relative terms as UK and since they pay higher, prefer to poach the few they need from other developed countries |

She wasn't satisfied so she went to a private laboratory opposite the hospital. She tested herself for malaria and typhoid with malaria returning very high. The lab recommended additional antimalarial to her drugs but she opted to revisit the Dr to properly prescribe drugs for her.
The Dr sent her out of his office without looking at the result saying he gave her the right prescription for what she complained. Lol. The lab should have prescribed the additional antimalarial they recommended. I'm still wondering why someone would have to take two different antimalarials together |

InvertedHammer: / He is right.
Pass USLME exams. Then if lucky, get Residency placement of minimum 3 years. Then one can do fellowship (for specialists).
To practice in US as a doctor trained in Nigeria will take about 6 years for very intelligent and "lucky" ones. \ That is because in the US system, after graduation, one would get into residency so doctors coming from Nigeria get into residency too. Similar duration of residency as is obtainable in Nigeria. The UK with a much more efficient and better health index than the US run a different system and doctors from Nigeria can practice there without getting into residency |

RonaldoVido: If a patient complains about you as a doctor abroad, you are finished. The fear of being investigated, suspended or having their practice withdrawn is what keeps Nigerian doctors on their toes abroad.
But they know nothing will happen in Nigeria.
Quality service delivery is anchored on strong supervision and it is lacking in the Nigerian Medical practice. Absolute garbage! Patients complain about doctors everyday abroad and an overwhelming majority of complaints are not even investment cos they don't meet the threshold. You'd hardly see any doctor abroad who has practiced for a long time without a patient raising a complaint |

abmart80: Generally Nigeria Health Sector is a mess. My 16 years old daughter was sick last year, she was referred to Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta from our Private Hospital. On getting there, my wife told me they dont have anything, if you need drug the doctors will be the one to direct you to where to get the drugs, you dont bring the drugs they wont attend to you. After spending some months there she get better and go back home for monthly appointment at the hospital. Later they told my wife that she will need one surgery to undertake for her final treatment. Then when I was around I took her for that appointment one day, I met with the doctors and ask some questions regards the surgery, the doctor direct me to one hospital and told me they just did it for some kid some weeks back, one is 10 years and one is 12 years. I went to the hospital, they told me it will cost me 3.2m.
The when I get back home I went online to research about the surgery and I find out that the surgery can not be done for age lesser than 18 years, then I was confused, because of this I make an appointment for her in the country where I was residing did 3 months visiting visa for her to come and do the surgery. On getting to the country I took her to the hospital for her appointment and they did series of test and xray, then give us another appointment. Then finally on the day of appointment they lecture both of us that the surgery can not be done until she is 18 years, because it will affect her in the future if they did it now. They retained her appointment and told me she should come back after two years for the surgery.
And Nigeria doctors already done same surgery for 10 years and 12 years old kid without telling them what it may cause them and their parents in the future.
May God save us all. So vague. What is the name of the surgery? |

Rita5: Hmm lets be frank in this life please, A girl who works hard to earn a 1st class deserves more respect from you than you've shown here. Zuckerberg or no Zuckerberg. And FYI he isn't the only smart person alive. There are alot of smart people with 1st class degrees.
The problem with this thread is generalisations. I have met incredibly smart women in my life and I can say am one of those. The problem with most guys is that you guys are intimidated by smart women. You've always wanted your women dull and below you intellectually and those are the kind of girls you lot go for. And surprisingly when they show you their traits you start barking and generalising.
In this life smart women have to work twice as hard as men to even get half the recognition. We push, we fight, we claw our way to the top stomaching the hateful and inappropriate actions of men who are highly placed.
See I have come to realise that most men themselves aren't even as intellectually sound as they would like us think. They are still very much slave to their innate need to take women sexually. When we speak up, hardly anyone believes women but supports the guy most of the time.
This is a mans world it has always been so. I really hope I don't have daughters as my experiences so far isn't what I want them to go through.
I think I have digressed a bit but honestly there are a lot of smart, hard working Nigerian women out there. And educational achievement doesn't really limit this number. I have a single mom who worked to put food on the table and put me through school. Guess what she didn't attend a university let alone have a 1st class. So I do get your point in that regard but the thing is women who work hard to gain accolades shouldn't be brushed aside. But they should be given the respect they deserve.
Most of the guys I have met are insecure when dating strong women. I kinda dumb myself down abit to raise their ego but this isn't sustainable. As most times these men don't value you enough to value the sacrifices you make each day to make them happy. A womans life isn't easy really, study, learn and become great you get scorn, be basic and give them what they want and they will still say all you are good for is sex.
I realise early to stop living my life to please any man anymore. If you're intimidated then thats your headache, you don't deserve me in the 1st place. Funny enough I have really met incredible guys this way.
This was meant to be a short reply, I kinda got carried away by the reality that this thread portrays which is Nigerian girls have an uphill task from the moment they are born, to prove themselves. This! Question is how many men can comfortably date the intellectual successful ladies they talk of? We see comments Made here by same folks looking for 'intellectual ladies' against the likes of Chimamanda Adichie and Linda Ikeji which are ladies who rose through the ranks. A good number of folks would not date the intellectual successful ladies because of ego issues. Also, It's impossible for Nigerian ladies to be unilaterally dumb. If they are, then Nigerian guys too are also dumb cos we all share a pool of genes. It's the same thing I tell black folks who degrade black women. |

People keep complaining about data getting used up quickly without evidence. Most of them have apps which use the data without them knowing.
Before blaming the network providers, when next you want to recharge, reset your 'mobile data usage monitor' on your phone. That way, you can monitor how your data is used, can track what apps use your data and if the network provider is not giving what is stated.
The recurrent talk of 'opening one page and my data finishes' cannot be proven. I've noticed that most people who say this use up the data themselves without knowing. |

Fact is, even if she wore the lashes on purpose, the school should have handled the issue better.
Dragging her about and making a video of it is an absolute NO. She's a minor and those involved can get into issues for that even if she was an adult. Look at the embarrassment the girl would go through. It's not unusual for girls of that age to commit suicide after similar events |

Getting a loan at this stage of the project can be sensible especially if you can start earning from the building in the near future.
The issue would be getting the loan at a good rate and knowing your ability to pay back. If your bank is willing to give you these 'quick credit' loans that usually come at a fair rate, that'd be good. But it's advisable you steer clear from most MFBs and smaller loan organisations so you don't loose your house in the process |

Romance › Getting A Right Person On Nairaland- The Reality by jedisco(op): 12:33pm On Oct 27, 2019 |
In my time on NL, and with repeated occurrences of people coming out to 'expose' the other party, I have come to see that a good number of folks here hope to meet Mr or Mrs Right on this forum. This is not abnormal considering the format of NL and the amount of time people increasingly spend here. In that same time, I have seen people increasingly complain about the opposite sex and how they are mainly involved in 'vanities'. This is not unusual considering that for most humans, when they are unable to achieve a target, most of that energy becomes bitterness and frustration which most times becomes evident in what they say about the event. It is a natural coping mechanism. So the question becomes, if we have 'good' folks on both sides actively looking for the right person, how come they hardly meet and awful stories keep coming up.
Thinking over this, these are the reasons I find responsible
1. People look in the wrong places. Yeah 'romance section' should imply what it states, but the way the forum is set up, you'd see there's hardly any constructive discussion there, yet, you'd see lots of people invested there hoping to get someone decent. Fact is, it rarely ever happens and most fall into wrong happenings. There are lots of sections on NL which may mimic a persons real thought process. I may be wrong, but there is a pointer in a person who spends 95% of their time on NL on romance section.
2. Getting too needy early on. Fact is some are straight talking which is not bad. But I posit that one is likely to find the 'partner of his/her dreams' when you get involved in sensible discussions initially outside romance. This brings me a little back to the first point. Get involved in other sections of interest, you're much more likely to find like minds there. That's the irony
3. A person's history says alot: Even in these days of alternate monickers, you're more likely to make sense out of a person who has used a particular profile actively with varied thoughts and opinions for say three years than a profile who just registered 2 months ago. There's a reason why Seun allows each monicker to have a viewable profile. I once got a device from here, but I paid a bit higher because I decided to use someone who has been selling such products for years on NL with good feedback and mine has served so far.
Finally, no size fits all. There is no apology for where one finds the right person (as far as no crime has been committed) and NL shouldn't always be a never avenue as some people posit.
I'd love to get responses of those who'd gone on to build strong relationships with people they met here stating under what circumstance they met....
