PoliticsGoodluck Jonathan nominates Ken Saro-wiwa's Tribunal Judge As Chief Judge Fhc by jensinmi(op): 3:34am On May 20, 2011
.confirms Justice Auta as CJ of high court

Despite a stiff opposition from Senator Lee Maeba, the Senate yesterday confirmed the nomination of Justice Ibrahim Auta as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

Similarly, the Senate also confirmed the nomination of the former governor of Edo State, Prof Oserhiemen Osunbor as a member of the Nigeria Law Reform Commission.

Justice Auta, who presided over the Military Tribunal that sentenced the foremost Ogoni activist, Ken Saro Wiwa, and other Ogoni activists, was nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan.

But when the Senate President, David Mark, sought the views of the senate whether Justice Auta be confirm, Senator Maeba, who represents Rivers East senatorial district opposed his confirmation, saying he played an active role in the killing of the Ogoni activist.

Just like Dayokanu and Abagworo have said.

I say the chances of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan contesting in 2015 are 100%.

All you have to do is look at the desperation and vigor he used to pursue this year's election.

No democratically elected president of Nigeria in the past 12 years has left of his own free will without attempting to remain in the position.

Think about if folks. Na who no like better thing naaaa.

jesus.:
peep are arguing against subsidy with little or poor information at their mercy.

The only thing i can more than 50% of the Nigerian populace is benefiting from the FG is PMS subsidy. At least my travels around Nigeria in the last couple of months suggests a uniformed price of PMS in states like Lagos Ogun, Oyo, Osun Edo Fct, Niger, etc at N65/litre. Meaning Nigerians that travel by car on board vehicles that run on Petrol benefits as well as average Nigerians that use small petrol generators tends to benefit as well.

A 1000watts generator requires about 5-8litres for a filled tank. At N65/litre a common man will need N520 to enjoy electricity which PHCN can supply FG will compound his problem by removing subsidy for him to buy fuel at N130/litre. Meaning 8litres will cost N1040 for a man that earns N18,000 minimum wage monthly. Remember he might have to keep buying petrol for more than 10 days as PHCN can guarantee regular Electricity

AGO, Kerosene and JET A1(Aviation Fuel) are alrady deregulated and Nigerian are crying for Help.

AG0= N160/N170 a litre

Kerosene = over N100 a litre

Jet A1= N170- N180/litre.

Allow the removal of subsidy and allow more money to be stolen by politicians. your senators and house of rep members are earning about N45 to N50 million each per quarter. Yet the 4billion being spent on Subsidy doesn't affect their salaries and allowances. N45million X over 300 house of rep members. N50million X 109 senators
Thank you jesus. wink wink wink

No he was not. There were about 17 Names on the ballot. Even if you are vehemently against Buhari, there were about 15 other candidates to be considered, many of them with actual records of achievements at some level or another.

Of the about 17 names on the ballot that day, Jonathan was NOT THE BEST OF THE BUNCH. PoliticsRe: Official :- Pdp Backs Sw Speaker As They Retain The Old Former Zoning by jensinmi(m): 3:53am On May 12, 2011
alj_harem:
ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRMAN, PDP, DR HALIRU MOHAMMED BELLO.

ABUJA, May 11, (THEWILL) – The political office sharing arrangement popularly referred to as zoning in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will basically remain the same, the Expanded National Caucus of the PDP has ruled.

Recall THEWILL had exclusively reported the details of the office sharing deal as reached last week by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and very top leaders of the PDP at the Obudu Resort in Cross River State.

The Expanded Caucus of the party at a meeting it summoned inside the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday night adopted the draft resolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, which had earlier recommended that the North East zone be awarded the National Chairmanship of the party and the Deputy Speakership of the House of Representatives; North Central zone – Senate Presidency; South West – Speaker of the House of Representatives; the South East – Deputy Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); the South South -- the House Leader, while the South East would also produce the Chief Whip of the House as presently maintained.

The current SGF, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed is from the North East, he is expected to vacate the position.

THEWILL gathered from a single source privy to discussions at the meeting, which had President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Dr Haliru Mohammed Bello, PDP BOT Chairman Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Anthony Anenih, Senator David Mark, members of the Board of Trustees of the party, PDP governors amongst others, that the party decided to stick to a previous agreement it had reached before the elections.

With the office sharing deal reached, Senator David Mark, who received the backing of many PDP governors including those from the South East (they failed to push for the South East) and the PDP executive would return as Senate President. The South East zone which had maintained that it wanted the Senate Presidency or Speaker of the House would nominate Mark’s deputy.

The Yoruba speaking states (South West) will present the Speaker of the House, where only three ranking PDP members won their re-election. Hon. Muraina Ajibola (Oyo State), an Obasanjo protégé is expected to become Speaker as exclusively reported by THEWILL earlier.

The source told THEWILL that the Expanded Caucus agreed that the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Haliru Mohammed Bello will remain in office till 2012, when the party conducts its National Convention.

The various geo-political zones of the party would have to meet amongst themselves to decide which state presents the persons that would occupy offices zoned to them.

David Mark for Senate President

@Lagosboy.

Thank you sir for talking about all the special advisers.

Now,  look at our Ministries. We right now have about 19 Federal Ministries. Each with their own minister and legions of advisers and others.

Sanusi stated, and Buhari supported that we needed fewer. Some were saying reducing this number to between 10 and 12.

This is why I still believe that Nigeria would have seen more progress under a  "no-nonsense" leader like Buhari.

Everywhere you look, we have problems.

Is GEJ going to restructure the police and tackle corruption within their ranks??
Is GEJ going to restructure the Nigerian Customs service and tackle corruption within it??
How about the Judiciary?? Are we going to institute a small-claims court process?? How about expediting trials??

GEJ wants to be the good guy. Who steps on no toes to get to his destination. He doesn't know yet that you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

Too much money is being spent on maintaining our bureaucracy. GEJ knows it. But he doesn't care. Wouldn't now have been the best time for him to reduce all these Ministries?? But NO. He won't do it. He'll appoint Ministers and keep these ministries going. Minister of Agriculture, and Ministers of State for Agriculture?? Someone please tell me what the difference is.

Look at it this way, all the attention the National Assembly is drawing is also distracting from where the real money is going. The maintenance of our Ministries and their workers, and the Presidency and Special advisers.

Forget about the Senators getting a significant pay cut. It won't happen. Let the reality of Nigerian politics hit all those new senators that are making mouth,  you will see that they will not talk about salary cuts anymore.

NYSCRe: FG Promises N5m Each To Families Of Slain Corps Members by jensinmi(m): 12:44am On May 11, 2011
Beaf:
FG gives N5m each to families of slain corps members
By Vincent Ikuomola, Abuja2 hours 9 minutes ago

The familes of the ten corps members killed in the post election riots that rocked most states in the North after the April 16 presidentail election have each been promised N5million by the Federal Government.

President Goodluck Jonathan who announced the gesture today also said the names of the deceased would be permanently immortalized as an enduring source of inspiration to all.

The corps members are Adewumi Paul, Ekiti, Okeoma Okechukwu Chibudom, Imo, Ukazeone Amsalem Chukwunonyere, Imo, Olawale Tosin, Kogi, Akonye Ibrahim Sule, Kogi, Gbejo Ebenizar Ayotunde, Osun, Adeniyi Kehinde Jelil, Osun, Anyanwu Agnes, Imo, Okpokori Obina, Imo and Adohe Elliot, Bayelsa.

With regards to those who suffered varying degrees of injuries, the president said in  addition to his  earlier directive that the respective State Governments take charge of their medical bills, the Federal Government would give each of them automatic employment on completion of their National Service.

These gestures, the president said are not meant to compensate for the lives lost or for disabilities suffered, adding no amount of recognition can adequately compensate for the deep void that their passing away has created in the individual families.

The token according to him is the country's  way of demonstrating its appreciation for the great sacrifice which these young patriots have made in the national cause.

President Jonathan also used the opportunity to warn that the  culture of impunity must stop in this country.

http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/5690-fg-gives-n5m-to-each-families-of-slain-corps-members.html
The Federal Government has no problems disbursing large amounts to Governors and campaign managers at a minute's notice; however, in this case, they "promise" the families a paltry N5 million. Give me a break  angry angry angry angry.

What would it take GEJ to have them paid the money (whatever the amount immediately)?? Which one be "promise"??
The total of N50 million does not have to be promised by a serious government. It is just done once and for all. No need for promises.

It could reduce some of the do or die politics (violence, thuggery, intimidation), and it could bring attention to previously ignored areas that women might tend to focus more on (female mutilation in some parts of the country, HIV, child labor, etc.). Am sure no diaspora can afford house in Abuja, except such is part of the looting elites
Thank you sir. I was gonna say this. After living in Abuja for a few years, and never having been to Lekki, I was surprised when someone said houses there cost N50million to N100 million. I was expecting higher from what I heard of the place.

You think N100 million is expensive, then visit Abuja. Forget Asokoro and Maitama where the N600 million naira houses are. Visit Garki or Wuse.
Before I left Nigeria, we lived in a block of 24 flats built for civil servants. During the OBJ regime, the decision was made to privatise those flats.

As of today, some of those flats (2bedroom, 1 toilet, 1 bathroom, plus living room and kitchen) sell for N50 million and up in areas of Garki. shocked shocked shocked shocked.
Wish I could call them apartments. Calling them that will make a mockery of the word "apartment." These are what you would consider low cost housing in other parts of the world.

Abagworo:
FG to build petro-chemical plant in Anambra

Federal Government will soon build a huge petro-chemical facility in Anambra State.

Special Adviser to the President on Petroleum Matters, Dr. Emmanuel Egboga, disclosed this after a courtesy call on Governor Peter Obi at the Government House, Awka, last week.  He said he was in Government House to share ideas with Governor Obi whom he described as the best Governor Anambra State has had.

Dr. Egboga said the facility which would be sited at Igbariam area, when completed, would be the biggest gas plant of its kind in Africa with the capacity of creating more than 10,000 employment opportunities for the people and make the state the centre of gas business.

The presidential adviser, who stated that gas exploitation will soon commence in the state, noted that the state, especially the Ugwuoba-Awka area has the biggest gas zone in the country.

He explained that the planned National Gas Pipeline System is connected from the South-East to the North through Calabar, passing through Ajaokuta to Kano on to Sahara and will form part of the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline that will take the country  ’s gas to Europe.

According to Egboga, the system is equally connected from South West to the North with a connector from South East to the West.

He said part of his discussion with the governor was on measure to ensure early exploitation of petroleum products in the state and commended the governor for his remarkable achievements in every sector.
Empty promises to simpletons and the intellectually-challenged.

Federal Government will soon build a huge petro-chemical facility in Anambra State.
In all honesty, WTF is "soon"??
Whatever happened to time frames and measurable goals.

Federal Government will build so and so "soon". Who gives a crap about that?? Jesus is coming "soon".  So. . what's the Federal Government's point??

Abeg jor. They should be silent and get to work. Who are they deceiving?? Certainly not critical and enlightened minds like mine.
Is their Petro-chemical plant listed in the capital expenditure of the 2011 budget?? The same budget we don't have enough to finance.

Mr. Special Adviser should know that we are not all simple-minded folks that are easily swayed by lofty promises of petro-chemical plants or airports that won't appear in the 2011, 2012, or even 2013 budgets. NONSENSE!!!
