@ekt_bear:

There are so many "rumors" about the demands of each side for the alliance. Looking at the personalities involved, I cannot but wonder what ACN wanted from him for him to decide it was better to lose the presidency than to capitulate. With his record, I personally think the demands may have seemed like an attempt to tie his hands. As it is, "rumors" already state that GEJ has given ACN the 30 Billion they spent on for their campaign with a 5 Billion "extra".

Many Nigerians believe Buhari has lost. Is that really true? His YEARLY pension used to be 250 Million but has now been increased (under Jonathan) to 2Billion a year. Do you still believe he has lost anything? I wonder why anyone would wish to pity Buhari with that income

I think it is Nigeria that lost
@Nuclearboy: Thank you for explaining to ekt_bear for me jor.

Buhari was the least desperate person running in this election. He has always believed that the end does not justify the means. He was not interested in selling his soul just to get the presidency.

The bible says, what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul??

What would it have profited Muhammadu Buhari if he gained the presidency and lost his soul??
Lost his soul by agreeing to give critical ministries to people who were not trustworthy or lacked integrity.

There are a lot of lessons to be learnt from the life of Buhari. I hope that God gives me the strength to walk in such a path.

A life without compromise with sin or evil is what befits a child of God.

We tried our best, we worked really hard, we fought with our sweat, time, money and everything we could but majority of Nigerians told us that they will rather think about today and not the future. A verse in the quran says "God will not change a people until they change what is in their hearts". Our people took money and voted for money which translates into them being satisfied with whatever governance they get.

Congratulations to GEJ and I wish him the best in governing the country, if he does it well good to him and Nigerians but if he doesnt no one should blame him but blame Nigerians that voted him in. As for me and my folks on this thread , let us keep the group together as we have 3 years to work hard in entrenching an ideology of good governance particulalrly in the South of Nigeria. Buhari had 11 months and he delivered, if we work hard int he next 3 years we could achieve a lot.

Let us think about how we could do this, I have ideas and I am open to suggestions from the whole house. Buhari and Bakare brought us together , we saw some qualities in them and I believe those qualities and ideology could be developed in others before 2015. Oue people need to change themselves and we have to work hard to do that, I have come to the conclusion that we have to change from bottom to the top as it is only by the barell of the gun we would be able to change from top to bottom. PDP will continue to rule for the next 60 years if we dont change as a people, may God forbid that though.

The struggle continues.
I wish to thank all those on this thread who did everything in their power to support the BB candidacy. I agree with Lagosboy on us having to stick together to enact the change required. I wish Goodluck Jonathan Good luck with his 4 years. I do hope that he disappoints me and exceeds the extremely low expectations I have of him.

@Lagosboy: How do we all continue to keep in touch and discuss.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Should Appoint Buhari As Efcc Boss by jensinmi(m): 9:57am On Apr 18, 2011
X-factoria:
Since Buhari's campaign was premised on anti-corruption, I think it will make sense for Jonathan to appoint him as EFCC boss and afford him the much needed opportunity to stamp corruption out of Nigeria. That way, Jonathan will even win more support from well meaning Nigerians who are of the opinion that corruption is our major problem and would have been on the verge of tackling a major problem in addition to those he promised to address like Power and Education.

Although, I have a strong feeling that Buhari will reject the appointment, I hope that his supporters (BB supporters) would be able to convince him to take the job if they really mean well for Nigeria. Building Nigeria to the country of our dream should be a collective effort.

I really feel strong about this. What do you guys think?
Your suggestion is akin to the Isrealis handing Hamas a nuke. shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

Jonathan will do no such thing. Your suggestion is based on the assumption that Jonathan really wants an end to corruption. I doubt Jonathan will want Buhari to expose the skeletons in his cupboard.

That being said, I'm quite happy that despite the CPC's loss, James Ibori has just landed in the UK. He will be more than willing to "sing like a canary".

He'll snitch on them all:

@Kobojunkie, Ileke Idi, and pluto04

Here are my permutations for the next series of four years - 2015, 2019.

A Buhari victory would have seen an intense war on corruption that would have brought in the likes of Pat Utomi and Nasir El Rufai into government as ministers. This would have cleared the way for Fashola, Utomi, El Rufai and those like them to run in 2015.

I have really been hoping that Fashola or Utomi would be a serious contender for 2015.

With Goodluck Jonathan's impending victory, however, I can say with 100% certainty based on the degree of desperation with which he pursued this candidacy that Goodluck Jonathan will contest again in 2015. He will be willing to move heaven and earth to make sure he remains in that position. I am also afraid that come 2019, he will push for a 3rd term presidency. This man has shown that he is extremely desperate to stay in power. Let us not forget that OBJ is the only democratic president in the 4th republic to relinquish power and that was after a long protracted battle for a 3rd term.

Now, regarding 2015 election. SW will vote for Fashola if he contests. SS will again vote for Jonathan irrespective of his performance. Shekerau will run in the North and will receive support from his people. Goodluck Jonathan will once again employ the Nation's treasury to ensure that the other zones (SE and NC) do not vote for any of the other candidates. All in All, Nigerians will once again "fall maga".

Best case scenario for 2019 is that GEJ's third term bid fails. We can then expect Sambo to jump in for his own 8 years. After all, he wouldn't allow anyone to chance him.

AND THE NPLF GET SHAFTED AGAIN BY JONATHAN!!!

First, he broke the zoning arrangement.

Next, he convinced these idiots that he'll only do 4 years as president and then zone to the north. Now, after using that tactic to win Northern votes at the primary, he has changed his tune again. This man is a criminal.

Why didn't he tell them that Nigerians could choose their leaders 2 months ago before the primary. We'd have seen if Atiku would not have whooped him in the PDP primaries. IBB gave him support on the basis of his saying he would revert to zoning by 2015.

Another factor which might have influenced the President’s position was the fact that he had also made the same promise to the Igbo that it would be their turn in 2015 to produce the president.
Look at it this nonsense, the same man who is telling us Nigerians can choose their own leaders is also the one being said to have told the Igbos they will get presidency in 2015.

People deceiving people indeed. Who knows, maybe he'll make sure we get both a Northern and Igbo president in 2015.

ACN has risen on the popularity of Babatunde Raji Fashola.

ACN is currently The Tinubu Show. Bola Tinubu is considered god by a lot of people in the ACN.

Absolute power began corrupting Tinubu long time ago.

Very few Nigerians will tell you that Tinubu is a honest man. Yeah,  Tinubu fought the federal government. TRUE. But here's my question:

I agree that MEND should first and foremost demand that their Local Government and State Governors do more to develop their region.

However, I guess it is logical, from their perspective, to blame the Federal Government for

1. Allowing the environmental decimation that has ravaged their lands, since the States may not be able to call the oil companies to task.
2. Creating an enabling environment for the Local and State Governments to chop their "kpomo"/ money.
3. Alllowing the sharing amongst Government officials of a good chunk of the money meant for the amnesty program.

It added: “If we see no sign by the new government for dialogue at addressing our key issues, we will take that as a green light from the government to commence our struggle, which will be very detrimental to all oil companies operating in the Niger Delta.”
The above statement makes it sound like they are not expecting Goodluck Jonathan back in Aso Rock after the elections.  shocked shocked shocked

LAGOS – PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, promised to give presidential assent to the Freedom of Information Bill, FOI, but on a certain condition which he, however, failed to reveal.

Speaking at the end of the presidential debate series organised by the Nigerian Election Debate Group in Abuja, Jonathan also gave his reasons for his absence at the presidential debate organised by satellite television channel, NN24.

Yesterday’s  debate was boycotted by the presidential candidates of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Congress of Progressive Change, CPC, Muhammadu Buhari; and the All Nigerian People’s Party, ANPP, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.

Anti corruption agencies
Jonathan who was the only candidate quizzed by a panel consisting of the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mohammed Garba and Mac Imoni Amarere of African Independent Television, AIT.
He also used the forum to promise the strengthening of the anti-corruption agencies in the country even as he gave strong warning to senior citizens he alleged were encouraging people to go into crime.

When asked what would become of the Freedom of Information Bill presently in the National Assembly, President Jonathan promised to give assent to it but expressed reservations about certain clauses in the bill.

He said: “The media has been my friend because the first job I applied for was to a media house, the Nigerian Tide, though some of the things that come from the media may not sometimes reflect our true state.

The media has been very instrumental to our success and we have no reservation to endorse the FoI Bill when it comes to me, except that there are some aspects of it, which I won’t go into, but it would sail through.”

Tasked on his failure to attend the earlier debate organised by the satellite television channel, NN24, he said that he could not have abandoned the matters of governance to attend all the requests for debate that were made to him. He claimed that he received as much as twelve requests from different organisers for television debates.

He said: “When the issue of election debate came up after our primaries, more than ten non governmental organisations, media houses, contacted me for debate.
The president does not have the luxury of multiple debates, we decided that the Nigeria Election Debate Monitoring Group, should coordinate and make one debate for all candidates of all the parties so that every organisation can telecast it.

That will afford every Nigerian the opportunity of watching it. Unfortunately, I travelled and when I came back at about 7:30 pm I got the information that a debate was going on. Today, it is an opportunity to be confronted with those issues that were debated.”

On the issue of corruption, Jonathan said that his administration will not interfere with the agencies fighting against corruption, but will give them free hand in discharging their duties

He added that officials of the EFCC and the ICPC will be given the necessary training and capacity building so as to position them to effectively discharge their duties of ridding the country of corrupt individuals.

On the possibility of channeling more resources to other tiers of government, notably the States, the President expressed his readiness to support the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, in effectively distributing the country’s revenue among the three tiers of government and in ensuring an appropriate sharing formula for the country’s revenue,

He noted: “The RMAFC is a semi-autonomous body and not subject to control by an outside authority. My administration will allow the body to do its constitutional duties.
The body will be allowed to determine the appropriate sharing formula. Once it comes up with an appropriate formula and once it is able to secure the approval of the National Assembly, my administration will certainly endorse it.”

On his plans for the economic development of the country, Jonathan declared that his administration’s major focus will be on agriculture. He explained that the PDP policy on agriculture will be pursued in this regard, which would encourage States to focus on two major crops in which they have better comparative advantage over other states of the federation.

While stating that his administration will revisit the issue of dams, irrigations and power, due to their immense contributions to agriculture and economic development, the President promised that a new energy policy that would encourage the establishment of micro refineries would also be formulated if given the mandate in the coming presidential elections.

Besides, he said if given the opportunity to rule Nigeria for another four years, provision of steady and adequate power supply for Nigeria, will be the priority of his administration.
Na wa o. That's the best he can tell us about corruption.

He won't interfere?? just like his policy of Non-interference over the past one year??

Why can't people see through this man and realize that he intends to propagate the status quo.

@OP, and @Jensinmi,

Fine,we know the case fatality ratio of rabies is 100%, but that does not mean you have to kill the individual psychologically even before physical death by confirming their suspicisions, The patient has already done the right thing by seeking medical attention and that is a lot better than doing nothing at all, fine, what the OP wants to know is the validity of what her relative has done. She is doubting the one-shot injection and that is where the issue is.

Sitting the patient down to scare him with what rabies is and is not, or what it will do to him is highly unethical and unprofessional and any individual with sound medical training would know that,

When it comes to handling zoonotic infections especially of a viral nature the last thing you need is a complication in form of a cardiac imbalance.
All the patient needs right now is re-assurance and being calmed.
Rabies is preventable after a dog bite. Just get the necessary shots (injections) within a short time frame after the bite.
I apologize if I did not state that in my post.

It is assembled in Nigeria hence it is unsafe, and you think with that kind of mentality you are not part of the group that will make mouth about dearth of industry in Nigeria without seeing the link between lack of demand (partly driven by that kind of retrogressive thinking) and lack of growth in industry in the country? Please spare us the sanctimonious ramblings.
@ SkyBlue

Bros. No vex o. But Is the burden of proof of a car's safety on the manufacturer or the consumer??

It is not a consumer's business to find out whether the car is safe or not. It is the manufacturer that should put all that information out.

Which Nigerian Agency will provide the equivalent of the NHTSA safety rating of these cars; most of which will be buses ferrying more than 40 people at once.

I won't buy an Innoson car now, just like I won't buy a car made by some local Chinese (Shenzhou or something like that). That is just what these Innoson Cars are.

Impress on your relation this fact.

RABIES HAS A CASE-FATALITY RATIO OF 100%.

The reason why people get the shots when bitten is that even if the possibility of getting rabies is slim to non-essential, once contracted Rabies Kills.

Irrespective of whether or not the dog is displaying signs of rabies or not, it may still have transmitted the virus to him.

Once you get it, you die. There's no cure, and no treatment. Just suffering and deterioration in health till death. It's a very painful way to die. I suggest you tell them to tell your relation that. Death is as sure as putting an AK-47 to your head and pulling the trigger.

Time to play devils advocate.

papa ejima:
This is not a scam, I was there in the Federal Government College in Port Harcourt and witnessed the whole scene. I was really pissed off because of so many reasons:

1. This lady could have avoided the scene. I kept asking how many minutes it would have taken her to remove her wedding gown. Or did she think that the test had already started so the wedding gown would gain her the sympathy of the officials to allow her to write?

2. I kept reminding people that taking her pictures and distributing it without her permission would be an invasion of her privacy but no one cared to think in the midst of the confusion.

3. The scene just portrayed how marriage has lost its value in our society. People, especially supposedly educated women, do not take marriage seriously these days. They just want to fulfill a "societal obligation" and get on with their lives. They hold other things more important than marriage as witnessed here. Most are totally unprepared to face the daunting challenges of marriage and the result is just too obvious.

4. The scene just shows how bad the unemployment situation is in this country. The venue was for experienced candidates and you need to see the desperation in the faces of people who should have been comfortably employed by now.

Under normal circumstances, no lady would allow anything to spoil her "happiest" day. But this is Nigeria, an abnormal country because of an abnormal leadership. The test that should have started by 1.30 pm did not even start until 4.40 pm. The lady arrived at around 3.00 pm!
1. Kindly note that a marriage differs from a wedding. Because urgent issues came up  on your wedding day does not mean that your marriage is in jeopardy.

2. Do you know her husband may also be unemployed?? and may have even encouraged her to go there. Afterall, when people come and eat and leave the wedding ceremony, you are still left with how to pay your bills and move on with your life.

All the noise about this at the testing center is due to our people not minding their own business. The woman is free to show up in whatever she wants.

2. We lack the ability to think critically. (CRITICAL THINKING) - Our system of education may be partly to blame for that.

Now,  if we look at it critically, we can honestly say that anyone who says Goodluck Jonathan will improve Nigeria is deluded.
If GEJ wins this election, he essentially has the following years in office - 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Note that 2015 will see elections in April and so no action from his government.

If we choose to ignore the party he is in and the immense influence that Obasanjo, IBB and co have over his presidency, we still have an easy indicator of whether things will change or continue the way they were under PDP. That indicator is the 2011 budget. It is there for all to see.

Approx $30 billion for the budget with just 1/3 dedicated to Capital Expenditure. That leaves us with approx $10 billion. PDP budget implementation has never exceeded 30%. Note that 30% was the figure given by the then Minister of Finance about 2009 budget. That means that if we are all lucky, $3 billion will be spent in 2011 on getting actual work done in Nigeria. That work includes:

1. New Roads
2. New Hospitals
3. New Schools
4. New Power stations
5. 25 or so New Airports that Jonathan is promising.

Although some will say that all these things don't have to come out of 2011 budget, we can say that at least some of it should.

It is very easy to see now that almost none of these things will be provided by the measly amount that Jonathan has budgeted in 2011. With $3 - $5 billion, how many roads, hospitals, schools, railways, or power stations can we really build??

All in all, the average Nigerian is gullible and unwilling to face reality. Nigerians deserves whatever kind of president we get.

Imagine someone (a university graduate) saying that she will not vote because God will decide.   shocked shocked shocked  grin grin grin grin

These are the kind of people we have in Nigeria. People who expect God to come down from heaven to choose the candidates and thumbprint the ballot papers for them.

WE ARE A PEOPLE WHO DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND EXPECT DIFFERENT RESULTS.

The problem in Naija is not education. In fact looking at the post on this thread, you can see what the problem really is. Twofold: Complacency and a culture that's been sidelined to fake imitations of the West and more importantly Arab.

Are you 13? If so, Sen Yerima can teach you about Naija politics. I mean, try to be more serious
Bros. Don't you know some people's internet connections are just for downloading and watching Nigerian movies and large amounts of pr0n.

In Nigeria as well, some people's Blackberries are just for chatting on BB Messenger. Not hard to find people who will tell you they don't know about this person or that person when a simple search on their phones can yield so many results.

You don't think that if:

A) it is privatized
B) Decentralized (i.e., rather than focusing on a national grid, more focus on regional ones)
C) Price of electricity is deregulated (i.e., seller can set whatever price they want)

we won't be able to achieve 100 GW in 10 years?

Under the above conditions, then an American power company can profitably spend $5 billion on power plants, and know that he will be able to make his profit.

It doesn't really take that much time to build and set up the infrastructure, if there is profit once you finish. China was building 2 coal plants per week back in 2007. I think in the SW, if you give us the above conditions we can supply all our power needs in under a decade.

Am I wrong? If so, why?
If we were 100% committed, we could make giant strides in 10 years.
Let us note that privatization is of the current infrastructure on ground. That will still leave use with over 95GW of generation to take care of.

As of today, very few Foreign Investors will be interested in pouring their billions into a place they consider unstable, like Nigeria.
With the current state of world economy, we will need over $100 billion in investment just to meet that target.
Unless we go the Pat Utomi route of using our excess crude account or part of our foreign serves to fund a Collateral Security worth several billions in a European bank, very few companies will consider us serious about Direct Foreign Investment. The few who do invest will do so slowly and cautiously with the aim of seeing what happens over a period of several years or decades.

While Chinese companies can build a coal plant in record time within China, they cannot do the same in Nigeria where we have no roads, no trains, no electricity (yes, you do need electricity to make more electricity quickly), no water supply, inadequate expertise.

If we need 30 (thirty) 300MW generating plants around Nigeria, we will need to plan (this alone is a process of months to years depending on if it is - Gas, Coal, Hydro, Nuclear or Wind). Wuru Wuru to the answer will end in disaster. Wind would require no less than 2 years of anemometry readings and research. The others will require their own specific planning processes.  Some of those stations you are seeing being built quickly in China took several years to plan and have been in-waiting since. We'd then need to find optimum locations, negotiate with the owners, pay for the land, place the order to manufacture the equipment (some of these things do take several months to construct). We'd then have to build, and then bring in the equipment.

@ Ekt_bear: Don't get me wrong. If we poured $100 billion into it tomorrow, in 10 years time, we may be there. But if we plan on doing it one building block at a time, build 4 plants today, 4 tomorrow, then. . . we have to be in for the long haul.

Lastly, Don't forget that we still have to invest in Power distribution. We stil have to invest in means of getting coal, gas, or whatever we'll be using to the nearest and farthest power stations.
