Is there a correlation or its just a 'Nigerian' thing?
Its not a Nigerian thing o. The same thing happens in many other countries.

Here in Nigeria, as Ramadan approaches, a lot of abokis selling foodstuff return to the north. The number of trucks bringing food to the south also reduces hence the hike in food prices.
The market men/women also capitalize on increased demand and raise prices cos dem sabi say no how no how, people must to buy.

Thank you mama, God bless you for taking time to explain this, now what will I do as he was given an injection orally? I just browsed it now and it is a muscular injection, God this health workers should be more careful. so this is how my son was just sigh heavily, no wonder he was just drooling all through part of it entered my mouth and it was tasting somehow in the mouth.

Now it's been 5 days since we took it orally please any health personal on this forum? should I be worried or do I need to do anything?
Good that you have equally confirmed the right injection site.
Based on findings, just take it that you haven't received the meningococcal conjugate vaccine. Since it wasnt administered correctly, it wont get absorbed/circulate as it should hence rendering it ineffective.
Wait for an interval of 4wks before taking another one i.e. if your son has reached the appropriate age for taking it.
In addition, be more vigilant when your son is being immunised. As for me, especially with all this expensive vaccines that come in single packs, I collect the pack sef, read everything especially expiry date before I allow them open it.

God guide you always.

Thank you enque, FloraEC and jazzyjazz for the replies.

I agree about reading ahead I had to do a course on immunization (still on it) both was orally given but the container for the wrong drug was syringe like although meant to be given orally. that of the Rota was like our normal lip gloss container that is tube like and has a cover.

I kept asking myself what if I didn't read about it or know the name of the drug. I would have said he was given Rota nah plus the N8,000 payment.

God will help us.

however the good side to the story is we don't get to take the wrong drug given as he is supposed to take it at 10 weeks and its N4,000. we will only require the booster much later.
The meningoccocal conjugate vaccine we received was an injection shot into the muscle. I'm not aware that it is also available as an oral vaccine.

Mammas that got meningoccocal vaccine.,can you please confirm if its administered orally /as an injection shot. Thank you

this is not an answer to your question, I just wanted to advice other mamas to be sure of the immunization being given to their babies.

I had to go for the 6 weeks immunization on Tuesday and because it's one of the nurses that sells it was a hidding something another nurse administered a wrong drug the meningococcal conjugate if not that I was reading what was written on the syringe I would have thought she gave Rota Virus vaccine, I told her it was the wrong medication and insisted even when she tried to convince me she gave Rota before the Nurse selling came to say it was a wrong one and gave Rota. We ended up taking two and I had to see a pediatric to be sure the meningococcal conjugate was safe for baby and was cleared it's OK.

Please be absolutely sure of the drug being given and ask questions because you will be the one to bear the consequences if the drug administered is not the right one.
You're right sis. I will add that mamas should endeavour to use the Internet to their advantage. Read up ahead so you understand more about your Lo.
For instance, in your case., rota vaccine is given orally. It is not an injection.

Good day mamas, pls how do I make my seven months old ebf baby to eat? He doesn't accept any other thing apart from breast.
Getting a 7months old baby to eat other kinds of food apart from taking milk can be a huge task at times.
You have to wear patience like wrapper and blouse to do it successfully. Some babies carry their picky eating style till 1/2yrs sef.

What kind of foods have you introduced.?

Try and start with soft foods such as pap, fruit(apple/banana) purees, oats etc.
You can also try age appropriate cereals such as heinz, cerelac, gerber and the likes.

please note that your baby does not have to eat a big bowl of food. Up to 4 teaspoons of food is ok as their stomach is still quite small.

giving food to less than a year old is complimentary feeding, so milk is still their main meal. You can also introduce formula and get someone else to feed him.

What kind of thread is this? I thought this thread was for new mums. I've asked several questions here but I've never gotten any answer. Abi is it only for few people. I'm not finding this funny.
Take a chill pill mama.

There are many possibilities...
Mamas online may not have a good answer to your question.

There is a search bar at the top of the page to help with your queries cos the probability that your question has been answered before is quite high

Mamas that answer questions do it out of love and care.

I could go on and on....

Thanks for the info. Hearing about rotateq being given in Naija for the 1st time and true Rotateq is given 3 times.

Uw sis. Rotavaccine 1 is taken 6 or 7 wks @ most while rotavaccine 2 is taken 8 or 9 wks @ most (based on my knowledge tho).
.
Lemme add to what you already know smiley and for the benefit of those that don't know.

One of the brand of rotavirus vaccine given in Nigeria is Rotarix made by glaxosmithkline.

2 doses of the vaccine is given. A minimum interval of 4wks is between the first and second dose.

Mininimum age for the first dose of rotavirus vaccine is 6wks just as you stated while the maximum age for taking the second dose is 8months.

It is a vaccine that helps in preventing severe diarrhea in babies. Even if the baby happens to suffer diarrhea after getting the vaccine, it can be better managed.

modified:
Just learnt that the other brand of rotavirus vaccine Rotateq made by merck vaccines is also available in Nigeria and is given in 3 doses.

It's from one of the nurses that gives immunization at Amuwo- Odofin LG health center. She buys the vaccines and gives it to the baby there. I have used her several times sha, was just hoping there's a place they give it free since some of the expensive ones they give free in some health centres are not given there at all.
Many thanks for the info.
The expensive vaccines given free at some health centres are actually sponsored by private organisations though.

The vaccines given by teaching hospitals are given to them free by NGOs like UNICEF, USAID etc. All the ones they don't give is because they are expensive and they cannot/will not buy. They have now added jara to their bad behaviour by telling people the additional vaccines are a waste of money, instead of advising people appropriately

Ar
don't mind them teaching hospitals and PHCs. its just so people can believe they offer free health worever.

The annoying part Is the manner the nurses say its not compulsory like 'if you want to waste your money, you can go and get it'.

One would have expected them to stock it and then at least sell at company price or very low margin.

on another thought sef, most of them cant beat their chest about their cold storage facilities.

My sister I'm sorry. I've been very busy.

I'll be around Ojuelegba axis in lagos. Please does the vaccine have a deadline? Can he still take at 8weeks?

Thanks for replying me. God bless
Good. Ojuelegba is quite close to Ambode health centre at somolu where you can get it for free. I think its on Tuesdays.

Use uber/taxify if you're not going with a personal ride for comfort and ease.

its not too late to get it at 8wks. If possible after getting the first dose, stay for another 4wks in lagos to get the second dose.

Hey mamas. Good evening.

I need a few ideas from you guys.

How did you guys planned for your lo 1st birthday.

Please I need ideas on party packs and other important stuff you think I need.

We are on a small budget.

Thanks
CHOOSE YOUR CHOICE
There are many more ideas that mamas have cited in time past. You can use the search button to get more.

AlphaHandMaiden:
We did the lazy parent approach and had only a photo shoot at home.

For the photo shoot I will say wait till another day. Even on a normal day, babies are unpredictable with photos. Not to talk of a day that they have punctured every where with needles.
Check your phone for a good clear photo the printer can use, maybe one that you took him recently may be going to church or another party.

For the party packs - you can add a story book, packs of sweets and biscuits., small toys. Crayons or colour pencils and colouring books.

For an alternative to the colouring books you can go online and print out some colouring sheets. Download a few as a jpg format and print it out on A4 - back and front and staple together.

For games it depends on the age. If they are under 3, e go tough oh. you can have a little story time and song time with actions.
Games like musical chairs and musical statues are also good for older kids.
A fashion parade is also an option.

You could also do pass the parcel, where you wrap a gift inside like 10 different wrapping papers and you sing a song whilst passing the parcel from one person to the other. when the song ends the person with the parcel, opens a wraper. And on and on until the last person opens the last weaker and wins the gift.

If you have a crawling babies you could do a baby crawling contents where the babies "race" from a starting line to a finish line, one of their parents will usually be at the finish line to encourage the baby,

That's all I can think of for now.
Good luck
helovesme:
Activities:
*you can get a bouncy castle (not sure if they come cheap in PH but there is no harm asking/shopping around/negotiating). bouncy castle is usually well loved by kids at parties and it keeps them very occupied.
*face painting for kids (and maybe agbaya adults grin) is another favourite for kids. again, i do not know how much this will cost but shop around, check instagram and negotiate as well
*you also have to keep the parents entertained, so it is a good idea to get a DJ (or buy DJ mixtape CDs) to play music non-stop.
*musical chairs competition for both kids and adults is also very exciting.
*sack race competition for both kids and adults is another good idea.
*splitting the kids into two teams and have each child take penalty kicks (an adult that act as the goalkeeper). the team that scores the most goals wins. this activity can also be done by the adults.

party packs:
plastic whistle, pencil, eraser, small notebook, assorted lollies, small plastic rulers, key holder, colourful hair bands/ribbons, fashion hand bands, plastic combs, sharpener, crayons, small colouring book. .. .

Just got back from church now and saw rat droppings on my cooker. How can I eliminate thilese things permanently? @queensnow is there any agbo that has the power to do this? Yes it is ok. Watch out though cos oats is fibre and it will help to give free bowel movement.
