Culture / Re: Who Do I Serve First? My Husband Or A Guest? by jill(f): 4:49pm On May 27, 2013
Thanks guys,

Even though i'm still not certain of the culturally acceptable thing, i'll just go with serving my husband first, if guest is his peer.

If older, i'll serve guest first.
Culture / Who Do I Serve First? My Husband Or A Guest? by jill(f): 12:18pm On May 25, 2013
Hello nairalanders,

I just want your opinion on this situation.

If my husband and I have a guest, and i am to serve drinks, food etc. Who do i start with?

My natural inclination would be to start with my husband especially if the guest is his peer?

Is this culturally acceptable? How about if the guest is older?

Investment / Re: Dangote Last Ipo - Flour by jill(f): 8:09pm On Feb 04, 2008
@ iykeD,
Dangotr flour listed today at 15 naira and did the max 5% appreciation to close at 15.75 naira. We can expect it to grow steadily like Dang Sugar till it reaches a peak price, don't want to guess what that'll be

I saw the allotment list. Only those who requested for the min no. of shares 1000 units, got full allotment. I've already received my returned funds through my broker. Good thing is they are paying with interest, though the interest will come later.
It's bye-bye to IPO's for yours truly,

And just who did you think the "bad bad people" i was referring to in my earlier post were/was, Opoks! ? !!

Adrianic, thanks. It's good to be back. Even though the thread is sort of tense now, but the way i see it, even brothers fight. It would be strange if there was no friction from time to time.

Ehido , yes, there were three sets of letters. I got one saying that they were placing me on hold till there were suitable openings cos of the no. of people they could take at the time. They of course ended by saying it was no guarantee of employment. Did anybody else in the house get one of those??
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Way Nlng? by jill(f): 8:00pm On Jan 08, 2008
Hey pips, I'm here o!!!!  i haven't disappeared like some bad bad people are saying  grin

A happy new year to everyone on this thread! Hope this year brings us what we most desire.
i have been unable to post for a while cos i mainly access the internet from the office and we had a few upheavals which saw my internet access being denied for a while. But i'm happy to say that it was restored today and one of the 1 st things i did was get onto this thread to find out what had been happening.  That is not to say that i was really itching to post anything. Since NLNg sent me my Waiting list letter "not a guarantee of employment"   and after duly congratulating successful candidates, i settled into a kind of quiet, not alien to me, but i see i missed a whole lot and will be happy to get into the spirit of the thread again.

Bonny people, hope the Island met ur expectations. I hear it's a lovely place to be.

Signing out for now,

Hi Everyone,
its been a while since i dropped a line on this thread and i'd like to start by congratulating everyone who got a letter inviting them for the medicals. Kenosky and Wandel you've done me proud and the sky is your limit. smiley

I didn't get a letter but i'm still hopeful and know for a fact that a few more people will be getting letters. So Kuwena, please do not give up hope. Your story is a touching one and probably explains the depth of all your previous posts. People who've experienced pain and hardship usually come through it with a new outlook and maturity that might be lacking in their contemporaries. i wish you all the very best and fulfillment. Do not turn your back on your brother and fiancee at this trying time,
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Way Nlng? by jill(f): 6:40pm On Oct 08, 2007
so thats mainly what I know about NLNG and its operations, Also i hear they send the graduate trainees on a 6months training programme to the UK, I don't know weda its everybody or only the engineers and techniciand doh,

Uche, its just the tech guys, poor me  cry

Kuwena, you are a true poet.  Wish i could churn out stuff like that,  guess i'll just have to be content with reading all the beauties this thread has to offer.

Kenosky, Adrianic et al,  hope you re having a beautiful day.
Much luv

grin grin grin     didn't know you speak chinese too, Adrianic

I've been in stitches  grin since reading the last couple of pages of this thread. You guys can write!!! and funny things too

Kenosky, Poetic Justice IV was long over due , and didn't disappoint one bit. Sorry i've been missing in action. Was due to technical hitches here n there  wink I await "season V"
expectantly

To all of us waiting for our letters, i said this earlier and i'll say it again, we've waited this long, a few more weeks/months  lipsrsealed i didn't just say that won't kill us. I don't think we should call, write, e-mail, text etc.  The good company will contact us when they are ready for us, its simple and straightfoward, right now they aren't! I'm sure they are on auto reply right now, wat was that again?  " the results are not open for public consumption?" They'll keep repeating that till we tear our hair out in frustration  angry   undecided cry        grin grin

So, pips, lets chill here on our thread, keep each other company, have good laughs and as certain as the sun rising tomorrow, successful candidates will be called God willing we'll be there!!

Pak welucome o!!

I rest,          for now

I mentioned poetry in my last post and here's Kenosky, able to recall that good ol' nursery rhyme,
"Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water( na village them dey then  grin)
Jack fell down and broke his, was it head or neck?, and Jill came tumbling after"

At least Jill didn't break anything, thank God.

Adrianic, I have some good news and some 'bad' news,
which one do you want to hear first,

Lets start with the 'bad' news,

Bonny grads are going to be competing for the slots we're after,

A a, don't blame them, na their papa land( i don't know why my surname isn't Dokubo, Harry or some other NLNgacious name). These guys are assured of a good no. of slots (don't have the exact figure) and a whole lot of the technician jobs on the plant go to them as well,

The good news is that we may be having more than 70 people taken.
The coys setting to expand operations and they had to revise estimations due to the demand for staff from most of the depts. That's part of the hold up, i heard, so let our hearts beat faster,  smiley

@ samuelokun,
i say welcome to the thread.

nite all

This thread is the bomb. Its good to be able to drop in here and chill,

Adrianic, you're the best. You always get me going with your posts. Just wondering whatever happened to Wandel, our good friend in Kebbi State, i believe? Haven't heard from him in a while. Ehido too has been missing in action though i can understand how things catch up with people and all of a sudden you realise a week's passed with no contribution from you to the fast blooming thread.

Like all Federal Institutions, NLNG has to satisfy its host community, in this case, Bonny, (who always says, " We go get for Bonny"? hmm )
Yes, we go get for Bonny but only if we keep the indigenes happy wink
That's why NLNg had to conduct a separate test and interview for Bonny grads.
This was concluded a few weeks ago and ours was put on hold so they could include the successful candidates on the list

Now that all the possible tests and screening must have been done, whats going down now is what affects all corporate decisions, bureaucratic bla bla
Line managers have to pick candidates, MD has to sign off some stuff etc.

We've been patient this long, a few more weeks won't kill us, i think its actually not knowing if we have one of those highly coveted comfy spots on THE LIST thats giving everyone this anxiety, cos i'd wait sweetly and happily till 2008, if i was certain of the outcome. I've gone from a fever of anticipation to calm despondence and back to anticipation and i think anticipation is good for the soul. smiley

Anyhow, i'm glad we have football, the house of reps and poetry, yes poetry(i've seen wonderful lines from some NLNg hopefuls) to distract us.
Patricia Etteh deserves to be relieved of her position and banished from the house for her brazen thievry. Na wa for these people leading us o.

Pips i'll sign out now,
one love all and lets keep the thread going

NLNG. BRING MY LETTER

Hey everyone, I'm glad to be here today!!

The way i see it, we're long overdue for the likes of Opoks and crew on this thread. It takes a lot of maturity and wisdom for people from different backgrounds and leanings to interact on a forum like this, give different opinions on issues and still remain chummy.

Then along comes Opoks, trying to educate us from his well of wisdom and experience wink and only succeeding in exposing sorely deficient social skills.

Effective communication lies in putting across what you're saying clearly to the other party.
If you meant no harm or insult, the onus is on you to clearly communicate your intent/opinion, without putting peoples backs up.

"Remember they know that a good no. of us are in paid employment already. Very reliable sources say that you will be asked to pick a date on which you can resume with a one month time frame. They expect us to give notice at our present places of employment at this point."

I forgot to add that the date for induction will be spelt out to you in the letter and you are supposed to respond, telling them when you can resume.

Nice day all smiley

NLNG BRING MY LETTER

I'm still here and let me say something on this resumption date issue.

Ehido does have a point. Big companies are never in a hurry when it comes to recruitment.
They like to take their time.

At the assessment centre, i remember being told we would be contacted by the company in September. Now , we all know that this may be the stage at which we'll be sent for medicals. At this point you don't have an offer letter in hand. The clinics will have to send a report to NLNg who will then send out offer letters to us.

Remember they know that a good no. of us are in paid employment already. Very reliable sources say that you will be asked to pick a date on which you can resume with a one month time frame. They expect us to give notice at our present places of employment at this point.

Infact, to my consternation, this source predicted resumption in JANUARY angry !!!!!
Now do not crucify me as the harbinger of this info o! Remember we have a pact to keep each other informed. I'm just telling what i learnt.

Bottom line is we will be resuming at NLNg whether tomorrow or december does not really matter. Non NLNG hopefuls would be wishing , 'O that their problem was WHEN they would be resuming, grin
So, lets thank God for little mercies. That we're still in the race at all is a matter for serious thanksgiving to the Almighty and lets not lose sight of that.

Now, i want to resume tomorrow, if possible, but lets all keep in mind that it may be later than we have come to expect.

One love all smiley
Love everybody on this thread. 'nite my lovely people and give thanks to God tonight for having brought you this far.

NLNG, BRING MY LETTER

" O, what wonderful people NLNg will be welcoming in the next couple of months!"

I think i must have been doubly lucky the day i stumbled upon this thread because these days, the words of Kenosym, Adrianic,Wandel, Kuwena and many more have been my main source of sustenance.

You guys deserve all the best and i can't wait to meet everyone . We don't even have to wait till resumption. We may be sent to the same hospital/clinic for medicals. I remember i met a couple of colleagues that way when i got my present job.I am running late and was just about closing but after reading the posts for the last 2 days, i'm overwhelmed by an emotion i cannot describe and just had to make this contribution.

Yes NLNg is a humane establishment. You are treated like a human being. They lay great emphasis on their human resource - you and I. An establishment i believe that lives by this -

“If you leave us our money, our buildings, but take away our people, the company will fail. But if you take away our money, our buildings, and our brands, but leave us our people, we can rebuild the whole thing in a decade.”
This is more than can be said for many companies, especially Banks, who make sure they milk every drop of productivity from you. Why do you think they are dropping the min entry age? 'cos they need our youth and energy for the punishing hours they set. I know NLNg is no playground but at least you are well paid for any stress you may have to go through.
You have a well defined lunch break(an hour or more), because they realise that as a human being, you'll need to take a break to refresh yourself so that you can come back in and give them all you've got. That is opposed to banks where you may have to dash out for 15mins to grab a bite and even then you may be called in to attend to a customer or the whims of your boss.

Every employee is entitled to at least 1 foreign training each year. Some key departments have more than this. This is much better than what our colleagues in Mobil and Shell have these days as most of their training is being brought down here to save cost. As a friend of mine put it, ' why send 20 people abroad when you can bring in 5 trainers? I don't know if NLNg will toe this line soon, but for now we re the lucky ones. smiley

God, i really need NLNg to bring my letter o!!

I'm out people.

NLNg. BRING MY LETTER

@ Adrianic and Wandel, thank you for those kind words. Your posts on this thread are inspiring to say the least.

A lot of us are looking forward to receiving our letters or calls this week or next. It would be great to hear the final word from NLNg but i'd like to say that even if we do not hear from them in the next few days, weeks etc, we should not let worry or anxiety make us feel down or question God.

Our present signature says it all. NLNG bring my letter. It could be tomorrow or next month for all i care, but i know that NLNg will, Bring my letter and to my doorstep too smiley

So Kuwena and all our people who just passed out. Rest should be on your minds now.
People do suffer from exhaustion when they push themselves too hard. Here you are coming off the stress trip called NYSC. You should be catching rest and refreshing your minds so that when we are eventually called, you will be able to give your best and more,

Adios for now all and the best of the day to you

NLNG TO LAGOS!!

hEY Everyone, missed posting on my fave thread. work's been taxing, but i'm glad to be here today.
Kuwena, thanks for those re-assuring words. I believe we'll all make it by the special grace of the Almighty.

Adrianic, thanks, i'm still with you on Loyalty but just want to point out that, I'm a female ooo! Not a brother, so next time, i'll fly with "sister" grin!!

@ all NLNG hopefuls, I promised to give us a mini breakdown of divisions in NLNG. This is my own little contribution to keeping morale up and hope high. I got this info when i was prepping for the Interview, just incase i was asked about the company, , you know, so i'd appear well informed wink,

There are 6 major divisions-
HUMAN RESOURCES - they deal with all recruitment (testing, interviews etc), plan staff career progression within the coy, Employee welfare etc.

FINANCE - they deal with controls within the coy, treasury, etc,

PRODUCTION - handles technical services ie, plant maintenance etc, Engineering, Health, safety, environment and Quality ,etc

COMMERCIAL- These are the guys who market the LNG to buyers( international corporations etc.), remember its a sellers market. You have something the whole world needs, great hmm,

EXTERNAL RELATIONS - deals with community relations, publications of the company and all dealings with the media and external bodies, headed by the able Siene Allwell Brown, from NTA

BONNY GAS- This is the Shipping subsidiary for NLNG

So, that's it. Hope we can all find a place within the GIANT called NLNG.
I know where i want to be. Do you?

Gotta face work now,
I'll be on later , have a great day all!

NLNG. TO L.A.G.O.S

Hey pips, I think patience should be our watchword now.

I remember they were quite firm about the fact that we should wait to be contacted by them and not vice versa ( i sure say them never recover from the multitude of calls wey them receive after the 2nd test grin )

Meanwhile we can keep our morale up by sharing info on the company. I did get a breakdown on the divisions and departments in the coy when i was preparing for the interview and i'll share that in my next post.

A thought,
Remember during the interview we were all identified by tags eg a7, b1, was anyone asked for his name during the CBI? A friend of mine was asked and i'm wondering why?

ciao,
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Which Way Nlng? by jill(f): 8:01pm On Aug 10, 2007
NLNG. To Lagos

@ Adrianic, those words on loyalty to your present establishments just blew me away.

Why? 'cos i've been feeling that nonchalance you so clearly described.
I feel soo strongly that i will be joining the NLNG bus come September and i can't wait, but i've decided to bide my time, give my best to my current employer and make a graceful exit when the time comes,

Fellow NLNG hopefuls, Kuwena, i'm happy to finally join you as we all await September.
Lets not forget that we will have to squeeze in the waiting period between when we are called for medicals to resumption.

It can't come soon enough for me and i've chosen Lagos cos the corporate offices are located here. Abuja is just a liason office and not a place any NLNG management trainee would want to be posted to ( lets think about our careers as well)
Bonny is the Bomb for the technical guys and you'll be allocated your own apartment!!

Hope to continue posting till the very last day till resumption and after and since this is a late entry, i'm still going to clain -- NLNG I'm In ooooooo!!!!

So so sorry my dear. Its appalling how inefficient services can be in this country. You can make a formal complaint at their offices in Calabar if it will make you feel better or you can forge ahead with your life realising that something even better could just be around the corner and all you have to do is work towards it.
I wish you all the best and keep your ears open for other tests.
