An A109 was and always will be a helicopter primarily designed for transport... Hence its a transport helicopter

Mechanization is a major reason Nigerian farmers aren't productive. If you look at rice yeild outputs you'll notice Nigerians lag behind lots countries. I believed Nigeria should copy India's policy on farm mechanization by renting out farm equipment. I'd also like to know if these service centers are government run or private sector.




Anyway I dont like the borrowing. The government has shown it doesn't take these debts seriously. The best example is the rail with subsidized ticket cost. I would like an alternative method for increasing Mechanization.

The coys supplying the equipment should be given incentives to establish service centers Nigeria. Then there is fleet management systems that squeeze out value from the machines in a structured way.
They will hire each machine for average of N60000 per hectare and Nigeria has over 30million hectares.

A109 was developed as a utility chopper. These new A109K, A109M and A109EM versions that NAF are buying are for armed/scout purposes.
They have standoff capable canons, rockets and even a small missile.
What I like most about them are the sensors.
They will enable ground troops sense ambushes before the enemy knows they have been detected.
The choppers can engage at standoff distances and destroy ambush positions and gun trucks. These choppers are useful against bandits and Boko Haram (if they are on the move). I won't advise using them against bunkers or well defended positions. MI 35Ms are for that.
The A109s are one third the price of MI 35Ms, easier to maintain for Nigeria because NAF has used the type for more than 12 years.
There are even many civilian pilots/technicians in Naija who can put the chopper in the air in minutes.

It is one of the most sensible procurements made by NAF in recent times..

There are add-on kits that come with the military versions of this chopper.
The military versions have good armoring for the crew.
I have posted stuff about the HFORCE package that the manufacturer developed for this chopper. It is one of the best scout/attack solutions in the world. There are at least four combinations of weapons and EO sensors

Nigeria should buy six more Alpha jets and equip them for CAS and internal security. I see an ongoing requirement for 40 Alpha jets with the right sensors and ground strike ability.
That way we can preserve newer stuff like Super Tucanoes and JF 17 Block 2 for longer range, stand off attack.and higher precision strike roles
