studentofTruth: I understand you perfectly well. I know the stigma I have in my area. But I'm not going to dish my laptop for anybody.
I'm planning to write an open letter to our able minister of "digital economy", but I have been extremely busy during this lockdown — every freelancing platform is experiencing a surge in orders.
What is digital about the economy if digital devices are seen as criminal tools?
In my area, they have tagged me a Yahoo person — anywhere I pass now I see eyeballs (even 15year old kids) directed at me and murmuring, "he has collected." Collected from where? Is there a well of money anywhere? They don't understand that money is made by offering services and products to people and getting paid for it.
Now, I realized it was a mistake showing my neighbors my Upwork profile to enlighten them on the services I offer online. Both ignorance and envy can't allow them sleep in peace since then. Gossip and long faces everywhere; outright stupid talks from youths in the street! Bro, you aren't safe there. I'll advise you leave as soon as you can. |

Jobs/Vacancies › A 280k Mnc Job Vs. A 550k Paying Remote Job by JIREN01(op): 8:17am On Apr 08, 2020 |
A friend of mine is being indecisive regarding the challenge of picking of the two available options. A multinational job which requires you to be on the wheel almost 24-7 (intra-state travels, pays 280K excluding other benefits like travel allowance, wardrobe allowance, conferences and occasional seminars abroad). On the other hand is a freelancing job which guarantees between 450-500K monthly.
Which would you have gone for if you were in his shoes? |

StepTwo: Minimum wage is 19800 and all Corp members are entitled to not above the minimum wage. Some states chose to pay medical Corp members as high as 150k while others get whatever they get. Some places of primary assignment also reserve stipends for them. No state gets to pay medical corpers as high as that. |
Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by JIREN01: 9:26pm On Dec 28, 2019 |
safet: Good day everyone.
So I took the GRE on 1st November at Jkk center in Lagos. Had a score of 299, Q-152|V-147|AWA-3.0.
I was so disappointed with my score, I was discouraged about furthering any of my applications. You know, that ginger just disappeared, I was loath to even get recommendation letters from my proposed recommenders. However, I would like to highlight some of the must "dos" and "don'ts" in preparing for the GRE. Please forgive my blunders, also these are just my views.
Some would argue that the GRE is damn EASY even going ahead to compare with JSCE level. But others state different, saying that GRE is so HARD. Well, you can not be sure until you test your legs in it, right? I am not trying to sound like some fake motivational speaker, but the GRE is a relatively easy test. The GRE is a standardized test, meaning they are restricted. They have a standard, they have a particular number of tricks up their sleeves. So the goal must be to discern/identify as much tricks as possible before the test day.
For the Quants, acing the GRE requires three things: 1. Concept 2. Speed 3. Discernment
Concept is the actual knowledge you need to know, the rules, formula, theories, method of approach you should know. Speed is completing the task within a specified period of time, you should know of course, the GRE is a timed test. Discernment, meanwhile is the ability to quickly see the answers by inspection, ability to quickly know you’re solving in the wrong way, ability to quickly strike off wrong answers, and the ability to be able to make correct guesses. This is the most important. The gist is if you know all the concepts, and you are fast, but can't discern, you will keep falling for the tricks laid down by ETS. You can finish a section with 10 minutes to spare and get a 9/20. I was so good with the concepts but speed and discernment were my Achilles heel.
There are several prep companies with different books, a lot of them. They all have their weak points and strong points. So number one is the official ETS materials; the trio of the Official guide, official quants practice questions and the official verbal practice questions. You should be over familiar with the content of these books. You should’ve solved all the questions there. All of it, they are the most trustworthy folks. You also need the GRE Maths review, they are also from ETS.
For quants, it’s a worldwide concession, Manhattan 6 books and the 5 lb book of practice question are the best for the concepts. Then you need to watch Magoosh lecture videos. It’s not really about reading, it’s about solving questions. So you should pay attention to questions and HOW THEY ARE SOLVED. Very important. HOW THEY ARE SOLVED. You should watch the Magoosh practice questions videos for this. There are different ways to solve a question and only one ETS way of solving.
The verbal section doesn’t have a formula, no fixed pattern like quants. Just there to frustrate good people. But it’s the GRE. So it can be aced also. For Verbal, Manhattan is quite weak, but you should try to read them (books 7 and . For RC which is the toughest set of questions in verbal, Kaplan is the god. Kaplan chapter 7. For SE and TC, you need to memorize vocabs, a lot of them. Use Magoosh Flashcards on your phone, if you have more time, you can check out Manhattan 1000 and Barron 1000 word list. That should be enough. Help your pacing by answering SE and TC questions first within the first 10 minutes, then the remaining 20 minutes for RC. Also, short passages before long passages.
For AWA, the best is Princeton review.
The point is you don’t need plenty materials. You don’t. In fact, some materials are point blank bad for you. They don’t set ETS-like questions. Don’t use anyhow material you see or mock test you see. Whatever it is you are looking for, is in Manhattan, Magoosh, Kaplan, Princeton, and the ETS materials. That is all. THAT IS ALL. Others are just repetition or bad for you. Don’t spend time going through several sources, reading same thing over and over.
Conclusively, PRACTICE! PRACTICE!! PRACTICE!!! You don't want to be like me who prepared for GRE for aggregate 5 weeks with an 8-4 job. Of course you want to pray about it. Believe me it works. You’ll want to be assured that the Almighty has your back, not even just for the GRE but even graduate studies as a whole.
Create time for yourself, but that doesn't mean you have to stop living life. Be happy. Don't kill yourself. You don't need overnight, don't let it affect your life. It's a terrible thing to be sacked because of GRE overnights. It's just a test. People have gotten full funding with 299. I know there are schools I can apply to.
Let me put my profile here. Please contact me if you have useful information for me. You can also contact me if you have specific enquiries about the GRE, or like to get a memo when Leo Messi wins his 7th Ballon D'or.
Looking at applying for PhD in Immunology/Virology/Cancer therapy. UG- Microbiology, 4.39/5.00 (3.63/4.00 wes unofficial) GRE- 299, Q-152|V-147|AW-3.0
I need your advice. We all need to follow our dreams. Thanks.
Cheers.

Travel › How Do I Resolve The Wrong Date Of Birth On My Transcript by JIREN01(op): 9:39pm On Dec 19, 2019 |
I was recently able to get a copy of my transcript from school, but I noticed a wrong date of birth was included-'92 which I used for admission as my guardians were afraid I didn't make the age cut for admission, so they weren't willing to take chances or get my admission deferred till d following year. Every other documents I have has '93-Birth certificate, International Passport including my Original WAEC result..
As I'm in the process of applying to schools abroad for admission, My questions go thus:
a) Does the DOB on my the official transcripts sent to the school hold water? I feel they should be more concerned about the international passport. b) Will my admission not be terminated on the ground of discrepancies between the age on my transcript and every other document? c) How possible is it to get this resolved? As every subsequent transcripts sent from my school will keep bearing the wrong DOB. |

firstregistrar: Thank you for the detailed write-up. I had a resit of the exam last week. I got same score verbal score as yours but Q was 160. I will also use this medium to advise people not to focus too much on the vocabs. During my exam, about five-question were in the Q section repeated. While preparing, I was only fixated on learning the common words in Magoosh. For the verbal, I will advise everyone to always paraphrase the RC before answering. if you try this method, you will be amazed at your result. On the Q section, I had fewer questions on probability and counting. Congratulations on your test scores. Can you cite the materials you prepared with for the Quant section? And please, Can I have an idea of your score in Verbal? |

So I've been following the thread for quite a while for the past couple of months.I luckily stumbled on a link to a collection of materials on GRE while I was navigating Twitter, looking for fine babes to DM. I couldn't start preparation right away as I had to go for the incipient 3 week NYSC camp. I took the first diagnostic test, although, without preparation, Saying my scores were terribly abysmal would be an understatement. The reason for my poor scores isn't farfetched anyway, I'm in the life sciences, pharmacy to be precise and the last time I touched basic maths even, was probably in SS3. It's no gainsay asserting Engineering students have an unfair leverage over students from other areas...
I've started with the Manhattan series but prep has been desultory. There's a professional exam I need to sit for in the next few days, apparently, a hiatus in my prep is imminent. I haven't registered for the exam yet as I see it better to start preparation long before registering. I've called for my transcript but my school has been delaying(OAU), I'm not sure what range my cumulative grade point would fall in but I figure it should be a little above 4 point, that which isn't bad for a start. |
Education › How You Went About Securing A Scholarship Abroad by JIREN01(op): 5:22pm On Jul 16, 2019 |
Hello, erudite men and women. This enquiry goes out particularly to scholars abroad. Here's an ambitious mind willing to be schooled and enlightened regarding how to successfully bag a scholarship abroad, particularly for a post graduate degree. I've heard a number of stories about people who secured scholarship and ended up being stranded on the other side, some other few unluckily got ripped of their hard earned funds, no thanks to the horde of greedy scammers who pose as travel agents. A number of people started their career here in Nigeria off an enviable footing, some started with Top auditing firms (KPMG, PWC, Ernst and Young ) IOCS (Halliburton, shell, chevron) among others and even scaled the ladder of their career through to the top as managers and directors, yet, jettison such an enviable and breathtaking career growth for a post graduate degree most often, with an hope to switch to the academic sector. Questions 1) How did you go about it? 2) How easy was it for you in respect to the rigors faced during the course? 3) Is a track of excellent academic record and stellar grades a must? 4) And looking back, do you think it's was worth it towing the path in question? 5) Are Exams like IELTS, GRE and GMAT needed? Please share your experiences, both good and bad. |

Danjuma827: date of birth is automatically sent by the school, your school made the mistake.. the solution to it is that if you have a waec result and you are sure that the date of birth is correct in the result you can just purchase a waec pin to edit it on the nysc portal. How long does it take for it to be corrected DOB to be shown on the portal please? |

However, the wrong DOB can only be switched to the one on your WAEC result regardless. |
