I prepared only with 'IELTSLiz' and took practice questions from 'Ieltsonline'. I was actually expecting a higher band score than this but I still thank God all the same Congrats chief. I heard from a source Masters in some universities does not qualify you for a Post Graduate Study Work Permit. Does a Masters degree from the following universities, including Saskatoon, Manitoba, Winnipeg, Northern British Columbia, New foundland, Regina, or Royal, qualify you for a PGWP following your PG Study. I needed to ask so as to know what I'm getting myself into. |

The first was in the University I graduated from and the second was in a research institute. Funny thing is, I did both jobs before NYSC. Career › Re: Pharmacy Vs Nursing: Which Is More Lucrative? by JIREN01: 8:22am On Sep 08, 2020 |
bizme: You are very correct.
I got into pharmaceutical research in Europe years ago without writing any licensing exams. I still visit Europe every now and then without any such licensing exams. I have worked and lived in Europe for years working in an area of pharmaceutical research without any such licensing exams. The problem we have in this thread is that people who have zero knowledge of the Pharmacy and Nursing professions and the ones trying to provide information about the two. It would really be good to stick to what people do know. That's impressive. You must be in the Research/Academia. |

sweettease: For nurses it is available even without a BSc and just 1 to 2 years experience, paid employment from the start with full benefits and sponsorship. Imagine the education and experience required before you can even come close to having such in pharmacy research. You mean you didn't need to write any licensing exams before practicing over there? To answer your question, no significant education- or working experience is required. Just your bachelors degree and 1 or 2 publications in reputable journals will do. And most of them just found of a way of getting their undergraduate theses published in collaboration with their supervisors. The major (if not only) edge Nursing has over Pharmacy is the ease of conversion by the licensing body (before being eligible for practice) in a different country. Besides that, I really don't see much to it. |
Career › Re: Pharmacy Vs Nursing: Which Is More Lucrative? by JIREN01: 7:34am On Sep 08, 2020 |
sweettease: Good to know the tides have changed. Do you mind sharing with us the short/long term benefits/pay of such partnerships to the pharmacist? The pay is based on negotiation so there's no fixed amount; however, it's generally in the range of 900-1.3M/year and above for the license and 150K and above for the salary based on my observation. Your question regarding the short-/long-term benefits is unclear; except for the fact you get paid, which is general for every discipline, I really don't see much benefits. |
Career › Re: Pharmacy Vs Nursing: Which Is More Lucrative? by JIREN01: 12:28am On Sep 08, 2020 |
sweettease: You sound so knowledgeable about what nurses make except it is not entirely accurate. I have friends that make 450-650k in Nigeria as nurses, without their BSc, granted it's in the oil sector and all except one have specialty qualification outside general nursing but I also have another with 12yrs experience that makes 400k/month outside the oil sector, I've come across others that make way more in higher managerial positions, all private sectors. I also got a 150k/month offer as a neonatal intensive care nurse when I had less than 4 years nursing experience in 2017. I dont know the full details of the public sector except for those earning 115-150k and they dont have up to 20yrs experience like you stated so I'm not going to dive into that.
As far as traveling abroad goes, it's always good to weigh your options, I didnt even plan to relocate outside the country before or right after school of nursing in 2013 but during the 2016 recession, I had a rethink and God used nursing to bless me. I decided where I wanted to go from a list of US, UK, Republic of Ireland and Canada. The first 2 offered jobs, green card sponsorship and relocation expenses and Ireland offered 2 out of those 3. After I made up my mind on the one I wanted, wrote the required exams and applied for jobs, I got 3 jobs while I was in Nigeria, i chose 1 that offered the most for the shortest contract and good pay. Relocation and green card sponsorship was by the facility, they even offered to sponsor spouse and kids under 21 If I had any, they paid my flight ticket, first 2 months rent, entire visa process (I left the country with an immigrant(green card) visa), gave me a non interest car loan after I got here and helped me settle in. There was no nepotism involved. I'm sure you cant get that with pharmacy anywhere. There is also more job opportunities and career options for nurses home and abroad. Also, you actually dont need to be a pharmacist to set up a pharmacy, you just have to partner with one. Wow; Impressive, although the chance of actualising a similar feat is quite slim even among your fellow nurses. You are wrong with sounding so certain a similar feat can't be achieved with pharmacy anywhere; I agree it could be quite challenging for a clinical role; however, I have a number of senior colleagues who have gone through similar route for a research/academic role. So it's not so far-fetched as you think. |

sweettease: With the nigerian situation, you can find pharmacists willing to be associated for a fee, so it is just like another job and he is easily replaceable if the contract is done right in a situation where the non-pharmacist holder controls the fund. Being a partner doesnt mean you have 50% share for contributing no fund to the business. Besides, the option of being a partner isnt even readily available for pharmacists, a lot of them will jump at that opportunity. On the partner issue, it's actually one of the most readily available options alongside Medical repping. I've lost count of the offers I got even before finishing NYSC (I had my professional license already) and even till now. It seems a number of rich businessmen are becoming aware of the benefits associated with private community establishments, more reason they're willing to delve into the area. |

bizme: You that own a farm and get profit from it you are not involved in greed and extortion right?
Well done, the condemn-er of the brethren. The chief accuser of the brethren.
The mechanic that repairs and services your car is not greedy when he collects his fee? The market men and women that you buy stuffs from in the markets are not greedy when they make profit from you?
But the Pharmacists, the Doctors, the Nurses, that provide both professional services and pharmaceutical products are greedy, yes? Why? Because you feel they are rich, and because you belong to the group entitled Nigerians who believe those who have money by default owe the poor every thing.
Pele, chief condemn-er.
By the way, I don't only have a well-paying job as a pharmacist, I also own a pharmaceutical company, a farm (including poultry), a financial services firm (co-owned with partners) and so on... Perhaps, you need an adjective that is much worse than "greed" to describe me since I am responsible for any condition that you might have. You really have time replying every of his response. |
Programming › Re: What Made You Pick Interest In Programming by JIREN01: 10:58pm On Aug 25, 2020 |
LSarcastic: Mine was crazy. It was just after I wrote WAEC back in 2015. I was jobless and entered into a state of emptiness. Though we were not mandated to do so, I still went to school everyday. It happened day after day until I stumbled on a movie(It's always a movie, isn't it ). I still can't remember the name up till now; an Indian movie about a group of guys who stole tons of gold to be transported. Among the team of thieves was a hacker who eventually sabotaged the entire team with his skills.
I was impressed with that and started trying to get into the field. I was also motivated by the lack of some features I fantasized on in the games I play. I felt 20 people should play PES as multiplayer, each controlling a single player. I got an application from Playstore: XeusHack. I started stuffs there and learned a lot. I would use ideas I learned to play on my dad's PC, making zip bombs, batch files and the sorts. I didn't understand any of the things I typed then.
I then got to a particular topic: Programming. The article then was like, if you can't make your own tools, you're nothing more than a script kiddie. It then listed dozens of programming languages, classifying them by usage. At the bottom of the list were two languages tagged as: "for proffesionals". These two languages were Python and Ruby. Since Python was at the top of the list, I Googled it and got an interpreter: QPython(It's still my favorite Android interpreter and I still use it till date due to it's tight coupling with Linux). It's name is now QPython3L.
My first program in Python(you can guess it) was Hello, world! The moment I ran that code, that was the last time I ever though about hacking. I delved deep into Python and I've not looked back from Programming ever since. The movie is titled "player", and the hacker's name is spider. Quite an interesting movie. |

Open a dom account, covert your money to USD and keep it in there so inflation wont wipe our the value. 2. Get a job or learn a business. 3. Further grow your savings. 4. Invest a portion of no 1. in a usd mutual fund. 5. Get someone experienced to mentor you in whatever career path you choose. 6. Dont leave your parents house until you have grown your net worth to at least $50k. Regarding the last part, he might never leave then. |
