Let's stay with the argument here. No one is crying over Ike Ugbo because we are loaded with options. We are talking about the scouting process and how it is handled administratively.
Napoleon55: "Ike could have easily went to nigeria but it was clear that he wants to b part of this journey"
For me,he went for d country who shows more seriousness at the right time, but it was not clear he wanted to be part of any journey.
First,he desired to play 4 england, then nigeria, finally canada because that's dbest option 4 him.
There are many players out there.. you win some, you lose some.. Those you win, we will hear the story. Those we don't you don't, you also tell the story if asked. It's the same scouting process, no discrimination.
Arabiandude: So what happens if after going about it privately it didn't work out and not even the player coming out to say anything in the case or Lookman? Won't he still assumed that nothing was done?
See, let me just tell you what I feel is the truth, there is no one that's bad in all ramifications, most times these guys at the NFF works really hard to get genuine results, just like every other in position of authorities. So we shouldn't always complain over everything because sincerely speaking, most of the guys out there today criticizing those in position of authorities will do worst when given same opportunity to fix things and make things right
I am going to make an allegation not because I see am with my eyes, but because of how we normally do things. And I could still be wrong.
There are people in the NFF who sit down on these files and are expecting the parents of these boys to do something before they will move their hands. Why am I saying this? Because this is typically what we do in Nigeria.
For those who don't know, do you know that to get a visa interview appointment date in Lagos now, you have to buy a slot? Now we are talking US embassy things oh. When it comes to blatant crude corruption all of us know anything is possible in Nigeria.
Ejaria matter that is public knowledge of where his interest lies
This is Pinnick in 2016:
"If you talk about Tammy Abraham, he is like my son, his father and I grew up in the same neighborhood. so when they talk about him, I just laugh because I know what to do. As for Ovie Ejaria, I talk with the father often, he just called me recently. These are people we have met and they are all excited about Nigeria,"
" I am yet to see a Nigerian that is regretting being a Nigerian. No Nigerian, even if they have four or five passports, they are always excited being Nigerians. I can assure you that we shall get them to play for us at appropriate time."
to answer your question, reveal the process and struggle after the deal is done and dusted. People like him (as you put it) will praise Pinnick and the like.
Arabiandude: I really need to bring this to your notice, if you haven't noticed about this yourself before and you need to stop it. You seems to find fault on almost everything that people do, mostly those that are not in your good books. Pinnick or whatever his name is approached these FB privately, you would complain because to you he isn't doing anything because he choose to do it privately, and hr does the same thing publicly, you would still complain that he was supposed to do it privately.
Do you know why some persons that indulges in given and helping takes along the media when going to help? It's because of people like you because if they choose to do it privately, you and your kind will complain that these people are wealthy but aren't helping.
I am telling you how we know it. I lived in Nigeria long enough, and visit at least twice yearly until 2020. i no know wetin u dey yan about "used to mediocrity" bla bla bla
humility33: I thought u said u leave outside the country
U seems to be so concerned and used to mediocrity or stagnant mode of recruitment
We need to embrace global changes and move same pace with the world
I hate it when we see nothing wrong or seems to get used to Nigeria administrative lopsidedness
Just imagine our female football is going way side already and lots more
for 3 years Canada has been chasing Ugbo did Canada say kpem? Before oga coach start to talk na after Ugbo annouce switch to Canada. See scouting process!
I will not put anything past our administrative style. We are Nigerians we know how we do things at home.
Modified I have been searching Google News (Canada English), I can't even find anything on Canada chasing Ugbo prior to the recent news.
humility33: Express it here for me Because all i read there is a coach that refuse give up in his pursuit
"Through our excel structure we were able to find a contact at Woodbridge who had let us know that Ike had the potential to play for Canada, this is back in 2018," Herdman told reporters, including One Media.
"So we contacted Chelsea's Head of Recruitment and at the time they just stonewalled the opportunity, they were very clear that Ike wasn't interested in representing Canada although we never got a chance to speak to the player who was young at the time.
"They were very clear he was on a pathway with England and that Canada wasn't an option."
He added : "Ike could have easily went to Nigeria but it was pretty clear that he wants to be part of this journey, this brotherhood we've created with this young group of men, and to take a country somewhere it's never been before and to have that experience that doesn't come around very often in people's football careers".
John Herdman: It was a 3-year process to land Ike Ugbo for Canada Chelsea tried to block Herdman's pursuit of the young forward. But in the end, the Canadian coach got his man.

If nothing else, John Herdman is persistent.
Don’t try putting a roadblock directly in front of the Canadian men’s team coach. He’ll only bust through it, or find a way to navigate around it, and continue down the same path before eventually arriving at his intended destination.
A day after forward Ike Ugbo announced his plans to switch national associations from Nigeria in order to represent Canada, Herdman revealed it was a long process that was rife with many obstacles early on. Herdman ran into a brick wall when he first contacted Chelsea FC three years ago about wanting to talk to Ugbo, then a member of the Blues’ youth setup, about the possibility of playing for Canada.
haha.. Ugbo knew what he wanted? There were also stories that he was switching to Nigeria. So how did it change to Canada overnight?
CODMOK: If there's player I will ever respect, it's Ike Ugbo. The guy plain die. No hanky panky. He declared publicly knowing what he want. I am glad that he has now decided for Canada. Be plain.
There are too many conflicting stories. When I get time I will have to read all the stories from the start and deduce something. Is someone telling me Ovie Ejaria also has been playing hide and seek?
CODMOK: You didn't read that the boy just declared for us?. On this matter, leave NFF alone and tackle the players playing hide and seek with us
Kog45: Oga Napoleon the team no get identity we dey talk about World class, average abi na top class.
Bro make I no lie you,no world class player in Nigeria team,Ndidi just need to quit Leicester team to push for it,likely Osimehn would even attaint it before him....Ejuke and Chuckwueze are average for now with good potential to become top class if they can manage their career with good agent.....Iwobi is always hot and cold,so he is average...Iheanacho of Man city has the potential to be a world class but now average....Musa is average though he had four world cup goals but for his football career since that Leicester move, damn too poor.
The issue is simple, the team lack identity and today football we are watching is just too technical to just put 11 players on the field without any sound technical directives....this is more reasons we lost to a team like CAR,Sudan came up from 4 goals down to level up.
My man wahala dey and only Rohr can solve it...not only on this thread, fans are tired of Super eagles and they don't even believe in Rohr again, never did Nigeria recall a player from retirement even great Okocha didn't have that privilege but Rohr is telling us Ighalo is the answer....hope it works well.
why we dey vex for Rorh na as he dey qualify us for every tourney?
The "Super Eagles of old" were the total opposite. They win convincingly. in fact if this SE dey play like them, SE for don gather so many fans so tey this thread go dey explode.. Tell me why people are not as interested in SE like back in the days. People love to win, yes, but they also love to watch good football.
After more than 5 years with Rorh look at our brand of football. Let them hype the "SE of old". Top 5 in the world no be beans.
andrewbaba44: Lol ,I Agree with you ,but we go fight if you also begin hype current eagles
The way dem Dey talk about super eagles of old you go think say dem go World Cup finals
Wait oh, Rohr dey consult people at the top before making decisions during match time?
If you watch Elegbede TV interview, see wetin Rorh talk:
"We wanted to bring Alex Iwobi for Ahmed Musa if I remember well and then our people from high said they are afraid of Ahmed Musa and it was perhaps right.
na una dey take sides na.. no dey listen to reason.
AndSunGorilla: I thought you are on the side of experience o. You can't eat your cake and still have it in the fridge sir, Moffi and Awoniyi have to pave way for our experienced striker and goat Odion Jude Ighalo, the real prince of Arabia!!! The supergenie outside the bottle.
When a white man comes to my country and tells me he does not care about money and he is not Jesus Christ, na then I go begin doubt oh. Their own brand of corruption is very sophisticated. *runs away*
okay this was exactly what I was insinuating earlier. If we believe our indigenous coaches made such demands from such players, why are are we doubting when the allegation is put against a foreign coach? Na the matter egbon Kog45 dey talk. In both cases the coach accused need to answer to the allegations.
Napoleon55: All these bribery allegations r always made by players who were not good enough,or those who fell out of favour due to their attitudes.
Before coaches or assistants would demand a player to pay before invitation,he must have viewed that player as not good enough. I can't imagine if coach would ask players like ndidi, chukwueze, osimhen, iheanacho, ejuke etc,to pay money before they can be invited
Was Emma Sarki good enough for SE as at then considering the competition we had? Now let's consider how this bribery thing they work. Sometimes it is players who are not considered good enough that are asked to pay something, because the good ones have already earned it.
And if many including Rohr did not feel Nwakame measured up, that does not automatically mean the allegation is false. For me I am still awaiting Rorh's response, not that I believe the allegation.
Kog45: Pls try and read Emma Sarki allegation cos some here believed that he was saying the truth.
If they can believed such then am waiting for them to say something on this...
I've seen defenders pop up to score in deciders during championships. In Alaba we are talking of a world class player who can make a difference in other areas besides just defending. We will have that convo about Adeyemi in future. It's quite premature to say.
TheLoneCitizen: At international level, forwards are the ones who win you Championship. This is a short burst knockout round.
Not a long-term league competition. At this level an attacker will always be more valuable than a defender.
What you do at the club level only shows POTENTIAL of what you can do at the national level. Many of these players that are performing in Europe etc did not hit the ground running immediately there, it took the right coach, the right tactical set up, the right teammates to some extent for them to start performing. Enter the national team, you also need a good coach to see the POTENTIAL, and study why the players are excelling at the club level. Compare that to what he has at his disposal and try to fashion out a good formula that will utilise the strengths of the players before their success at club football can translate to national team football. And this can take time.
This explains why in the past we have had players who were never great at club football but were one of the best when they play in the national team. It is the same reason why you have players that are banging in Europe but you start to scratch your head why they cannot show similar prowess in the national team. my friends, Rohr has been our coach for over 5 years now. He has broken the record of the longest serving coach in Super Eagles history if I am not mistaking. I saw the signs long that the coach could not take us forward.
This is not the time for this player vs that player. We cannot afford to miss the next WC. We have to do anything possible. Just because Ighalo now plays in Saudi Arabia does not necessarily mean he has lost form and he is worse than those playing in Germany etc. it is not necessarily a player comparison thing. It is a matter of if we TRUST our coach to make new additions to the team today that will immediately translate to success? I see us moving to the next round of qualification, but I will repeat again the next round will be very tricky. This is not the time for sentiments or playing player preference.
Nothing is guaranteed. But I will rather TRUST a guy who is still competitive and who has been there, done that most recently to make a sudden impact than another performing player who may need a series of games to show his potential in the national team. If we no qualify for world cup, na for here wailings go plenty. After qualification, dump Ighalo, and I don't care. But nothing is guaranteed either way. The Ighalo way is a reasonable gamble based on our prevailing circumstances.
MetalJigsaw: Rohr Hit Back At Critics Of Super Eagles Style Of Play, Breaks It Down, Denies Defensive Approach thedabigal.com.ng
Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says it’s not true that his team approach game with the mindset of defending as said by many.
Speaking in an interview on Elegbete TV monitored by OwnGoalNigeria.com, the German coach said his team play a brand of football that involves moving the ball quickly and turning defence into attack.
Rohr said it’s not true that they don’t play an entertaining brand of football as suggested in some quarters as they try as much as they can to play a type of football that is effective and appealing to the fans.
“I would say we play an attacking style of football; Our strength is to have good strikers, good wingers and we try to play to our strength which is quickly transitioning from defense to the attack, having good solidarity on the pitch, playing quality football and having good touches of the ball.
“Our philosophy is to set up like a block, defending together and attacking together and don’t give any space in the midfield; and then our collective football has always been to have the best results on the field of play,” Rohr he concluded while reacting to a question on his team’s style of play.
Why do you say so? Well, we still miss Alaba because of the void we had in our LB position for over a decade, and even now he would bench our current LBs/CBs easily.
TheLoneCitizen: I still feel in the history of Nigerian football, even greater than Alaba, Karim Adeyemi will be our biggest miss.
