I think what many Nigerians fail to realize is the exploit of SE in the mid 90s was a culmination of continuous team building for about 5 years of Clemence Westerhof's reign as SE coach. It wasn't surprising that the 94 team was cohesive and were rampaging (if memory serves me right). The team was not full of stars. There is no basis for comparison with the current SE. Gernot Rohr has only been with the team for about a couple years now. This team is young, and has the potential to exceed whatever the 94 set achieved in another 3 years time. Mujtahida: My dear forumites I pray you all to read this expose I want to do: Well, forgiveness you just put out the fact that Eguavoen was playing in Belgium. That's deceptive and you know it. Let's take a deeper look at the condition of Fc kortrijk from 1990-1994 that Eguavoen was there: 1990/91 season they were fourth from the bottom of 18 teams in division one. 91/92 season they were 17 on the 18 team table and were relegated. 93/94 season they were still in relegation. He played two seasons in division one in a low ranking team and another two seasons in relegation. But through your romance filled eyes this is still better for you than famagusta that is topping the league in Cyprus and Ebuehi who is just two seasons in the Eredivise.
When I saw Iroha's wretched stats I just shook my head at your deception or ignorance. Here are the facts people: Iroha was at Vitesse from 1992-1996.he played just 21 times for a period of 4 years. Verdict: correct benchwarmer. Meanwhile he had been playing professional football for seven years before this time.
Oliseh was at RFC liege from 1990-1994, he played 75 matches and scored three goals. Now divide the number of weeks in the four years with 75.that would give you an indication of his regularity(in fact he was first playing for their u -19 side). As for his goals just 3. Yet you are comparing him with Ndidi who played for two years at Genk with 64 appearances and four goals and is barely a year at Leicester with 33 appearances and two goals (all Oliseh's facts are settled but Ndidi's are still unfolding but one can see who already has better stats. He didn't feature in those UEFA matches for RFC Liege.
Uche played for 9 years for Fernerbahce with 191 appearances and 19 goals. Quite solid.
1993-1995 at Anderlecht 14 matches no goals From his Wikipedia page: After three seasons he was bought by giants R.S.C. Anderlecht, who won the league twice during his stay. Nwanu played very few matches; he retired after an unsuccessful spell in RKC Waalwijk.. Truly no verdict.
I wanted to run away from this our first champions league winner Finidi but I still checked:1993-96, 85 appearances 18 goals. VicMo has been more of a journeyman. Hard to put his stats together for club. In any case he doesn't play offensively for Chelsea. But when I checked their stats for the Super Eagles I was shocked: Finidi played for the Eagles from 91-2002(11 years) played 62 times and scored 6 times. VicMo has 28 appearances with 10 goals. I just weak
Amokachi is an outstanding average player better than Ighalo and Nwakaeme. Seriously and I love him
We all love Rashidi. He is great. But by your standard and that of komekn, Rashidi who played just one season of first division football in Portugal will not smell Super Eagles team. Your adulation of him smacks of hypocrisy. It is we who insist that clubs should not be used to screen out good players whose adulation of him is authentic. You opposed Nwakali just because of his club. You would have jettisoned Rashidi for Ekoku since Ekoku was in a more fancy club.
Let us look at Siasia you have used to bullet Iheanacho. Siasia was at Lokeren for six years from 1987-1993. Played 151 times and scored 31 times. Now let's look at him at Nantes. He was there from 1993-1995. He played 44 times and scored 4 goals. Iheanacho played 46 times at City and scored 12 goals. So who has better stats? Moreover note that Siasia had been playing professional football for ten years as at the time of his stint with Nantes while Iheanacho is just four years in the game In the gwg Siasia played from 1984-1999 that is 13 years, appeared 51 times with 16 goals. Iheanacho has played from 2015 for the Gwg 13 times with 8 goals and he has not done even half of Siasia's time in the team. Verdict: out of respect for Siasia let me keep quiet.
I checked Amunike's stats and that of Musa. Amunike's stats is just a bit better. Amunike won APOTY at zamalek playing 71 times and scoring 26 goals from 91-94. Musa did not win APOTY yet look at his stats for CSKA Moscow:2012–16 125 appearances, 42 goals. This should tell us how low the level of football in Africa was as at 1993.
Bottom line is that the 94 set were not better both for club and country more than this set as such(yes they won an Afcon but remember 2013 we won Afcon) . We have not even talked about those in the 94 set who were not in the first 11 ooo. But in the end such comparisons are deceptive because one set is done and dusted. Another is still unfolding.
However we can all see that it's through the soft eyes of a blind lover that forgiveness and komekn looks at the 94 set. The reality shows a completely different picture when compared to this current set. What I think is that football has improved so much from that time(personally I still prefer the 90's football but then I recognise that football has improved) and that is why the 94 set looks so glorious (plus they won Afcon) and this set looks ordinary in the eyes of some.

gbam!!! tbaba1234: It is simple, these stories have been romanticized for modern public consumption but they are still steeped in Idolatory.
In the centuries of brutal colonialism, Africans were told that they had no history and no civilization. The mental slavery still exists today. People actually believe in their hearts that a white man is better than them. The Benin wall according to some historical records was longer than the wall of China in the 16/17th century. We had books of scholarship in Timbuktu, Mali, black people built in pyramids in Egypt and Sudan. Today, the treasures of the Benin kingdom are still in European Museums.
Africans have not told their stories, they have not looked within for solutions. Several of our problems can be resolved by looking within. We can not keep looking for aid money that is designed to help European and American contractors.
The same thing goes for our football. A holistic approach is needed to revamp our football and make its model for Africa. The talent is there. We need to take bold steps to change things. |

Swiss third tier.. okay! mazimee: Swiss-born Nigerian: Super Eagles need a goalkeeper like me .com Dec 24, 2017 10:27 AM
SC kriens star, Sebastian Ogenna Osigwe has expressed his desire to help the Super Eagles in the goalkeeping department ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The 23-year-old, who was born to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother is currently enjoying a fine season in the 1. Liga Promotion in Switzerland, having kept six clean sheets in 17 appearances.
Interestingly, Sebastian's dad, Vitalis Osigwe represented Nigeria in the past as he was part of the 1985 Golden Eaglets squad but only missed out on the U17 World Cup following an injury against Poland in a preparatory game.
The Super Eagles were the first African team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup but the biggest dilemma facing the Gaffer, Gernot Rohr is identifying a reliable first choice goalkeeper after the retirement of Vincent Enyeama and absence of Carl Ikeme, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
The number one spot have been rotated between Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi while Deportivo La Courna's Francis Uzoho made an impressive debut against Argentina in a recent friendly but Sebastian feels he has a lot to offer the Three-time African Champions. Speaking exclusively to SportingLife, he said: "If I get a call-up to the Super Eagles, it will be a dream come true.
"The team really needs a goalkeeper like me and I'll love to help. Perhaps follow in the footsteps of my dad who also represented this great nation, Nigeria.
"I followed the qualifiers closely and appreciate the work done by the likes of Ezenwa, Akpeyi and recently Uzoho. Goalkeepers need experience and consistency and I believe it's something I can bring to the team."
Sebastian has played for the Switzerland U15,16 and 18's but narrowly missed out on representing Nigeria at U20 level after initially making the 30-man provisional squad for the 2013 World Cup in Turkey.
SC Kriens sit top of the league table with 39points from 17 matches before the winter break.

I like these Croatians.. Exactly the kind of spirit we want them to have.. Mujtahida: whether this is a realistic appraisal of our team( which i feel it is not) or hubris speaking i'd love for us to shove some sand into this coach's mouth when we meet them.
Croatian Coach On Nigeria : Iwobi & Moses Too Similar, No World-Class Players Published: December 23, 2017 Croatian Coach On Nigeria : Iwobi & Moses Too Similar, No World-Class PlayersCroatian manager Tomislav Obradovic has predicted that Croatia will overcome Nigeria when both teams face off in the World Cup on Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad on June 16, and has stressed that there are several players with the same characteristics in the Super Eagles squad.
Obradovic was coach of the Rwandan U20 National Team for two and a half years, and he almost qualified the country for the 2009 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Asked to compare Nigeria's offensive players Iwobi and Chelsea's Victor Moses, Obradovic told Sportske Novosti: ''Compare all of them with their characteristics? Everyone is similar and quick, good within a group. But where are the world-class players?
''It's probably quite enough, but as a team I do not think they have world-class quality. Why do I say that? They have too many players with the same characteristics.
''They can not beat Croatia. Not in one segment of the game. Neither technical, tactical, nor organizational, nor in any sense. ''
Tomislav Obradovic warned the Croatian team that Nigeria's counter attack can be dangerous because they have fast players.
''The only way they can outsmart us is if they threaten us from the counterattack because they have such players, quick, fast.
''We have to hold the ball, wait and play our organized football because we are better, disciplined, stronger on the ball, better one on one ''

My point is why is Jordan using the reason of his father? His father has some unresolved past with Nigeria which is why he has advised his son against it. But how are u so sure that Jordan doesn’t secretly fancy playing for us? I don’t know how u were raised. But even while growing up even though I had to obey my dad most times it didn’t mean I always agreed with him. Jordan will play for Nigeria even if it’s after Russia. My reason? Because he keeps quoting his dad. Doesn’t sound like his saying that is what he really wants. AND THATS IF OGN’s REPORT IS TRUE. forgiveness: OwnGoal
Home Nigeria Nigeria My Son Won’t Play For Nigeria – Father Of Bundesliga Rising Star Torunarigha Tell Rohr May 15, 201703620
Former Nigeria youth international forward Ojokojo Torunarigha has confirmed his son Jordan Torunarigha is not interested in playing for the senior national team of Nigeria.
Torunarigha is rated as one of the upcoming defenders in the German Bundesliga, where he scored his first senior goal over the weekend in their 2-0 win over Darrmstadt from his role as a left back.
He is presently with the U-20 team of Germany, and his father confirmed Nigeria have approached his son over a switch of allegiance as exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, but he told them his son is not interested in playing for Nigeria.
” I always say to him play like you can play football, and you can see it has helped him progress from the youth team of Hertha Berlin to the main team, and also for Germant through U-16 and now U-20. We were approached by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
” They wanted my son to play for Nigeria but I told them he is not interested “, said the father who played 12 matches for Nigeria and also represented Chemnitzer FC in the 1990s.
Presently he works at Hertha Berlin as coach of the U-10 of the Bundesliga side, and aside Jordan his other son Junior plays for Dutch second division side Fortuna Sittard, who are coached by former coach of the Nigeria national team Sunday Oliseh.
http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/05/15/my-son-wont-play-for-nigeria-father-of-bundesliga-rising-star-torunarigha-tell-rohr/
However his father Ojokojo who played 12 games for Nigeria in the 80’s revealed he told Nigeria that his son is not interested. A claim which Jordan has now confirmed.
Jordan is yet to team up with the Germany U-20 team at the World Youth Championship in South Korea due to the club duties, and he reckons progressing through the ranks at Germany is his aim.
“ I was told of the interest from Nigeria by my father but as someone who has played for Nigeria in the past, he advised me to focus on progressing through the ranks with Germany instead of considering a switch to Nigeria “, he said.
Whether he said it or nor is inconsequential to me because me I still want us to get him but for clarification sake, you can read the reason he has not pledged to play for us. |

Many people are scared their players will not make it to Russia. Sentimental beings..
Even my favorite player Victor Moses, needs more competition. There is no room for laxity. Every player must fight till the last day in camp to deserve a place in Russia. Let the invitations keep coming. Competition will get stiffer, players will raise their game up. It is for the good of the team.
Having said that, the defenders I want us to invite include:
Tosin Adarabioyo Dominic Iorfa Kingsley Ehizibue Jordan Torunarigha Felix Uduokhai Kevin Akpoguma Efe Ambrose Nura Abdullahi Kenny Otigba
Yes the players who do not finally make it are ever welcome to fight another day #QatarInView
All those saying Echiejile's place is guaranteed. You are defending a guy who since his move from Portugal has not been able to cement a starting spot for every club he has moved to. Una really like mediocrity. Not like he is even shining in the GWG. His days are numbered in SE.

Oga stop getting too heated up about the issue. Adarabioyo deserves an approach. But hey don’t forget Rohr did not make a move on Tammy. It looks like there has always been an intermediary that has a relationship with the player of interest. Rohr is in the best position to talk to the German trio for obvious reasons. forgiveness: I was expecting to get reactions from the @bolded but I was not disappointed there was no reactions.
However, when I mentioned Tosin Adarabioyo, Dominic Solanke, Lookman Ademola, Kehinde etc we saw negative reactions. Maka why?
What is the difference btw these German boys to the Queen's boys?
Did they not all openely rejected us?
Why is Rohr not critized here for trying to beg these boys?

What matters most is Iwobi keep being the Iwobi we know in the GWG safarigirl: all reactions have at least three players being blamed, not just Iwobi.
Those are just four random reactions though, random reactions could go both ways.
Anyway, I no watch the match.
I think I mentioned in their last match that Iwobi misplaces passes a lot, he was just losing the ball anyhow and you could tell he was either nervous, uncertain or juat scared by the way he played
Looked nothing like the Iwobi that plays for Nigeria, I suppose he continued like that in this game. I think he lacks confidence in an Arsenal shirt and I can't say why that is
Something must have happened psychologically to him because the Iwobi that first made a break in Arsenal's team, the #Big45 Iwobi was a ball of confidence, this #Big17 is weak |

Now he wants to be bold and try something new and Kog45 has doubts (justifiably so Sir). My point is that one cannot satisfy people.
I appreciate ChrisKels for bringing us this juicy snippet of information but Kog45 remember the interview Rohr granted to 365 magazine which was posted here for our reading. Remember he said that the nature of the opposition would determine the tactics we use and that he needs about four more players. While I understand your reservations I want to ask would you rather we stick to our tested tactical formations for all the teams we would play against than adopt tactics based on the opposition we meet?
I too I'm concerned about having our backline filled by inexperienced defenders although I see them as good backups. Let us not forget the SA loss and the lesson it taught us. Secondly I hope that if we secure this guys their commitment to the Gwg will stretch beyond the WC. We want Super Eagles players not WC players. |

Bla bla bla.. how do we change our way of doing things? Hopefully it will be another blessing in disguise? terzurum5: The Nigeria Football Federation is left disappointed as coach rejects women's job
By Oluwashina Okeleji https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/54F7/production/_98415712_gettyimages-458112482.jpg
Randy Waldrum previously managed Trinidad and Tobago's national women's team.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed its disappointment that Randy Waldrum has rejected the chance to become coach of the women's national team.
Waldrum and the NFF failed to agree terms for the American to succeed Florence Omagbemi in the role, despite an announcement from the federation in October.
Earlier this week the 61-year-old opted to accept a new role as the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh women's team.
"I'm quite disappointed that Randy Waldrum was appointed and he decided not to come," top NFF official Chris Green told BBC Sport on Thursday.
"I'm actually disappointed in the fact that I thought we had a good coach in him."
Green explained why Waldrum had changed his mind and admitted some of the blame must lie with the NFF.
"He said in his letter [to us] that from when the [NFF] president gave him the job, they did not do anything or contact him any further," Green added.
It doesn't speak well of Nigerian football that after the Paul Le Guen saga this one is happening again, it doesn't tell well, but what can we do? We just have to learn and move on.
NFF official Chris Green "There are other things that are required like signing the contract itself, working conditions and all the basics that parties have to agree to - nothing was done.
"He was left in limbo and said he has to feed his family, but (we're) extremely disappointed that we've lost out on another coach."
It is the second time in 18 months that a foreign manager has rejected a coaching offer from the NFF, after Frenchman Paul Le Guen rebuffed the chance to handle the Super Eagles in July 2016.
This latest setback comes as a big blow to the Super Falcons, Africa's reigning champions ,who have not played or trained since lifting the Women's Africa Cup of Nations a year ago.
But Green apologised and admitted shortcomings by the federation as they have failed their women's team - Africa's most successful national side - once again.
"Nigeria is a great country with abundant talent for anyone to want to coach, but on our own part [as administrators] there are many things we should have done that are left undone," he admitted.
"Administratively, that is not how to get things to work out for an organisation like the NFF or in football generally because things are changing in football with new dynamics.
"It doesn't speak well of Nigerian football that after the Paul Le Guen saga, this one is happening again - it doesn't tell well, but what can we do? We just have to learn and move on."
Green's comments about the women's game in Nigeria come just a few weeks after NFF president Amaju Pinnick told BBC Sport the federation's focus would now switch to the women's team.
Nigeria are the only African team to have played in all of the Women's World Cup tournaments since 1991.
But they have failed to translate their continental dominance on the world stage, as their best performance came in the USA in 1999 when they reached the quarter-finals.

Let him start scoring for Mainz. elyte89: Anthony ujah has only played 7games for Nigeria since his first debut in 2013,and mostly coming in as a sub
So I feel its too early to discard him just like dt..if he can do fine in his present club,we can consider him
If we can condone emenike for 2years without hitting a bar let alone of scoring,so I don't c any reason stopping d coaching crew giving him d chance again.

IF Ujah repeats what he did in the past -- scoring double digits -- then he is good enough if Rohr thinks he is good enough. However, the player is average IMO. Let me also agree Eto was the best in 2004/2005 season but can you pls explain what he did to win the award for the 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 season?
Oh! I remember he played for middle table Mallorca then. |

Oga when dem call u name now you will complain oh. I'm for the call up of Adarabioyo and Tosin though.. But you know what i mean. Modified Oh and I forgot to add because you mentioned Tammy. Tammy does not deserve another approach. he never deserved another approach. we have already set the ball rolling. what he needs to do is declare that he has a change of mind.. then it's up to us to accept him back or ignore completely. AND. his current form is not good enough. let's keep watching him against Qatar 2022 forgiveness: I think NFF should intensify moves to approach some of these players now.
Tosin Adarabioyo - Manchester City
Dominic Solanke - Liverpool
Lookman Ademola - Everton
Kehinde Tosin - Manchester United
I think we have to forget the past and still approach Tammy Abraham. After all, Zaha also shuned Ghana before he latter turned out for them. |

this is the mindset I was talking about. Having the view that FIFA or UEFA's opinions always have to reflect in CAF. Jarus: You are very funny.
Drogba that was the 10th best player in the world in 2005 was the player you want to compare with Martins?
Essien, the best player in French League and 22nd in the World for 2005?
You talked about FIFA stuff, but those 3 players got bigger recognition by FIFA, and you want the order to change in Africa? |

You have a point.. tbaba1234: I understand why you say that but his stats in Germany have not been bad. Perhaps, Nigeria does not know how to use him. |

Okay.. let me get this out of the way, i'm not arguing for Nigerian players as regards APOTY.. But I understand, if you got that impression. What I'm simply saying is the same criteria don't always apply year after year, whether its FIFA or CAF awards. Why is that? It's commonsense, it's humans that vote. And you cannot take away politics entirely in the voting system. So what we have is we tally up subjective opinions to make an objective opinion. Does that mean the system is flawed? Not necessarily. That's the rules. Can it be better? Definitely! As regards your claim, if you can find me a witness or two who has been with you here as early as you have, and can tell us that all you have said is true, then fine.. merely stating it doesn't make it true. Jarus: Before some of you joined NL not to talk of starting this thread, some of us have been discussing this issue of APOTY every year.
I took part in every NL thread on APOTY in the last 10 years!
And before I discovered NL in 2007, I have been actively been discussing APOTY award since 1998, offline.
When it comes to Nigerian football, only very few folks here are as passionate as I am.
This is just being realistic, no Nigerian has deserved APOTY and not given.
The nearest was JJ vs Hadji in 1998 and JJ vs Eto'o in 2004, but still Hadji and Eto'o had a slight edge in the 2 years.
There is also a school of thought that believes Ghana's Kuffour deserved the 1999 award ahead of our own Kanu. I don't agree with that but it is worth mentioning that even in some of those controversial periods favoured Nigeria.
The earlier we realize that no one is sitting somewhere denying Nigerian players any award, the better.
If you do very well and shut down the world of football like Eto'o, Drogba, Yaya, Aubameyang etc, no one will deny you any award.
Let's face it, what we have been producing in the last 15 years are just average players. Produce world beaters like Yaya, Drogba, Eto'o, Aubameyang etc and see if you will no win it. |
