Lol.. How do we know that it is true that U have not guessed wrong? U have to be here in this thread long enough. I don’t care where the coaches are from, as long as they are not angels voting. Jarus: FIFA publishes votes for WPOTY by country captains and coaches. Over 300 coaches and Captains around the world could not be wrong.
I dont know for other person, but I have never guessed wrong WPOTY in the last 10 years. It's usually very glaring. |

You didn’t need to break it down. I had already understood with fewer words.. Modified Let me add that you are now sounding less sentimental. I want to encourage you continue in this fine way. safarigirl: lemme give you a scenario.
If a teacher meets his student and tells him "when I was your age, I was a trouble maker like you".... Would you say that was premature?
Because the basis of my comparison is on the fact that Salah HAD a rough patch at his time and the same MAY be happening to KC. I am not saying KC is Salah, because obviously, Salah is older and has spent many more years in professional football.
I am only saying there is a POSSIBILTY that KC, LIKE Salah, could become an ace forward.
Just the same way I could use Moses as an example of a player that hasn't always had it rosy.
The idea is to SHOW that if one person could make it, surely, another person could. It is not saying " this person is as good as this other person currently"
The fact that I have to break down something so simple to anyone is befuddling. |

it's not soley on the players performance. It's also about his impact on the team. A player who performs well personally, but fails to win a trophy with his team, will have a less chance compared to one who ALSO wins a trophy with his team. What does that tell you? Stop basing it on a player's performance alone. We can do a Messi vs Ronaldo, since that rivalry started and you will see that FIFA is not infallible. Jarus: I dont see any big deal in assessing player's performance. It is usually very glaring except for anyone with some nationalistic biases. |

Oga Jarus.. What's the title of this thread.. wait until we come to a European thread, then we can make that argument. This thread is to support Nigerian players. But that does not mean we should throw away logic. That said, the question remains, what should be the criteria for CAF. I made a list of 8 parameters. Until CAF is clear about this, and their criteria doesn't have to be dependent on FIFA's shortlist/criteria. The point is we need to be clear about ours. Abi do we always have to wait for oyibo, before we know who is worth what? I repeat our shortlist don't have to be dependent on FIFA's. That's colonial mentality. We have to be clear about ours, then we can debate from there if it's a good criteria or not. Jarus: Martins made the initial long list for 2005 APOTY but could not have made the Top 3.
Tell me which of Eto'o, Essien and Drogba you think he could displace as top 3 for that year?
He was nominated for the long list FIFPro Young footballer of the year, how do you want him to make final 3 ahead of Etoo, Drogba and Essien that were nominated in Top 30 in the world for senior category?
Eto'o and Drogba were among FIFA WPOTY Top 10 in 2005. Essien also made the initial shortlist and came 22nd in the world. Essien was also voted best player in French league for 2004/2005 season.
These are people you think should not make Africa's top 3 ahead of Martins in 2005?
My Naija people need to follow other players too. Football doesnt revolve around Nigerian players only. |

I too want KC to succeed. In fact I have a soft spot for Manu’s 2013 eaglets. But let’s not forget that KC was promising, Else he won’t have got a working permit to play in the EPL. And he started very brightly. I can’t wait to see him fulfill his full potential. But comparing him to Salah is premature. It’s not a matter of what’s my opinion. Just learn to say it as it is sometimes, even when it involves your boy. You don’t like KC as a footballer more than I do safarigirl: if you think there is no basis, that is your personal opinion. |

Na only you bring KC into this matter. There is no basis for comparison here. Wait until KC gets many more games under his belt. safarigirl: what stood out is that Salah had his own rough patch with Chelsea as well and Kelechi may be having that now.
So, is it fantasy that Salah had 2 goals in 19 games for an EPL team at some point in his career?
As far as I know, Kelechi had a very decent record with City, not like he has always been poor. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:38pm On Dec 20, 2017 |
so na only Chelsea stat stand out to you, of all the stats there. only you said, "Kelechi's stats will probably" But what I laid out there is a reality. safarigirl: Kelechi's International Stats will probably look like that after 56 Caps.
19 games for Chelsea and 2 goals.... He must have been exceptionally useless for them back then.....makes you wonder what some of the Kelechi detractors must have said of him back then....the same ones praising him today must have laughed at him then and said how much of a waste of money he is. Papers would have called him a flop and Chelsea fans on Twitter must have called for his head
But Time changes all things, just like time changed the downward spiral of Moses' career and elevated Salah back to that Premier league he must have had nightmares of from his last experience
I wonder how many Egyptians tossed him aside back then.....
Goes to show, pesin wey good good, they may have hindrances and may not always show their class because of some circumstances, but doesn't mean they are gone forever. |

lol yes there should be a specified amount of points per parameter. And maybe votes should also be one of the parameters. That way votes won't carry 100% weight. And this should apply to Best of FIFA Awards as well. kennysville: You know what I feel? I feel after those parameters must have been spelt out, let computers do the actual voting. What's the criteria? Kog45: Thanks but i will not accept that am being biased.
Nigerian players cannot set the standard or criteria on how CAF should does her things regard APOTY,they should try to measure up to the criteria and only way is to continue working hard to merit the award.
I remember of recent Mikel and Enyeama almost nick it so i don't see CAF being sentimental, this is a body that considered Ekong for the same award |

you mean every year a Nigerian was in contention? Well, let's just say they seem to change the criteria every year. They need to come clear as to what criteria should have more weight. So that will have a standard that will guide the conscience of the voters. safarigirl: the problem with CAF is that they seem to change the rules every year against the Nigerian.
This year it ia club exploits, next year it's AFCON, before you know it, they will say it's based on sexual exploits.
But whatever criteria they use, the Nigerian must get the short end of the stick. |

kennysville: Lolzzzzz. Excellent analysis. Except that e get k-leg small
The problem I have with all of these is when the rules change, you wont be here to defend it and clearly show us what really happened. I never wanted to comment on this APOTY but i think I have had enough! Left to me, the award is a popularity contest. Its no longer about contributions to the world of football. Even your analysis says it all.
This is why when you watch talent shows, absurd people win in a ridiculous manner that befuddles the mind. And still we will have some weird way of explaining it away.
All the goals Okocha scored in the EPL nko? Werent they enough for him to be named APOTY? Ever since he left bolton wanderers, what has become of them? You wanna know? They wandered throungh lower tier leagues. At least he was named BBC African footballer twice. Where was all this recognition in Caf? So my friend, this analysis sweet as it sounds, is still a biased one.
If Caf wants to put things right, it shouldnt be about exploits in European leagues. The parameters need to be a lot more clearer and not on sentimental speculation of international rating. And certainly also not on goal scoring prowess. End of story! @bolded, that has been my point |

Ex Nigeria U17 Goalkeeper Udoh Wins Another Man Of The Match Award In IsraelDecember 18, 2017 https://i1.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/IMG_4047.jpgFormer Nigeria U17 goalkeeper Akpan Udoh was once again voted the man of the match for his Israeli side Bnei Sakhnin Fc in their 2-1 win over Kiryat Shmona in the youth league in Israel. Udoh stopped a penalty in the game to help his team pick up all three points, in what was the fourth straightforward league game he has played for the youth team. Already he has joined the first team in training this season, thanks to his impressive performance between the sticks since his move to Israel two months ago. The goalkeeper who was in goal for the 2015 Nigeria U17 team that won the World Youth Championship in Chile moved to Israel thanks to the efforts of Israeli agent David Ouziel. A part of the Nigerian U20 team that failed to qualify for the African Youth Championship last year, but the 18 year old is still eligible to feature for Nigeria at the same level. --OGN |
