Very good question. Never seen him deployed there.

blueto:
Yes, the decision can be changed before the world cup. But for now, I agree with your opinion, but can Ekong play comfortably on the left side?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 3:33pm On Nov 17, 2017
Yes Kareem Onisiwo.
Exactly!

SerVik:
Very true. There is a Nigerian in Mainz and Balogun is already talking to him. However, not every foreign born have that luxury of playing with an SE player.

V. Moses can play in almost any formation.

Napoleon55:
as a matter of fact,no formation that excludes V.Moses should be adopted, unless perhaps he is injured(God forbids)

People just refuse to be enlightened. Rather they choose to live in a cave. Cave way of doing things. Exactly why Nigeria is what it is today, and will continue to be so.

Where did you read it? Is it secret?

Modified
Now you are canvassing for a system were these players will have to send tapes etc. in other words beg the NFF, and wait. wow!
when a man thinks in his head that he is important, and everyone around him sees the opposite. Fool's paradise.

TheGoodJoe:
Did you read some players even sent their tape? Did you not read some players contacting the NFF/Technical crew stating that they are ready to play for us. When they are ready, they will let us know.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 2:20pm On Nov 17, 2017
How would that discussion have been possible without a relationship?
Don't forget my earlier bolded. Mikel talked to him several times, and Aina joked..

Are you saying our current SE players should be the ones "begging"?
without a relationship first, how would Mikel have been able to talk to Aina several times. Wouldn't it be seen by you as "begging"?
Please highlight your system of making these players know that declaration is the easiest route to SE.

TheGoodJoe:
The bolded highlights my point. We want those that are ready to play for us. Finito. When they are ready, they can let us know and they are welcomed to fight for places.

Finito.

Colin is not Collins. two different names.
Mikel is derived from Michael. In Mikel Obi's case, it was PROBABLY misspelled at a point in time, then it stuck to him.

BascoVanVeli:
Just like Mikel I guess it looks better to him
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:29pm On Nov 17, 2017
Like you said we should not go to the WC with intent of sticking to one formation. Dynamism is king.
So other formations have to be in consideration. I think versatile players will have a stronger chance of making it to Russia.
Don't forget most of these players can play at least two positions.

Mujtahida:
This set up reveals that we are short of central defenders and we would drop either one from Aina, Shehu, Ebuehi. One would also drop from Moses Simon, Musa and Onyekuru.
.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:20pm On Nov 17, 2017
I think we need a good ball holder and passer like Mikel. I think those are the qualities we miss whenever he is not on the pitch.
I think emphasis needs to be put on ball holding before we start throwing names

Modified
Okocha was somewhat a ball holder because it was hard for an opponent take the ball from him because of his sublime tricks. Mikel, rather, guides the ball so well, hence was able to replace Okocha in this respect. Okocha's passing is supreme though.

lexyman:
we need to play our next friendlies without mikel ... if we must do well in in the world cup ,its so obvious we lost lost a match and drew one without mikel , ... Rohr should look for someone to deputise him ... SHOPPING FOR A MIKEL DEPUTY SHOULD BE THE NEXT TASK FOR ROHR .

GUYS LETS MAKE A SHOPPING LIST FOR HIM ...

SO FAR I CAN ONLY THINK OF :
joel Obi
Sone Aluko
Azeez Ajagun
Chidiebere Nwakali
.

lets list players who can play in that role
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:11pm On Nov 17, 2017
Eniola debuted for England in 2004. Omatsone debuted for Nigeria in 2009. Eni is older.
This is a quote from wikipedia:

"Aluko was called into the England set-up at the age of 14.[citation needed] She chose to remain loyal to the English coaches who had given her the opportunity to play international football, but said: "The main thing for me is for people to understand that choosing to play for England doesn't mean that I don't support Nigeria. I'm as much Nigerian as I'm British. Of course Nigeria means a lot to me, it's part of me, but I've been brought up by English coaches."[55]"

Modified
Eniola was only 17 on her senior debut. Her brother must have been 15 or so

forgiveness:
I don't know but it his sister rejected Nigeria after she saw the way we mistreated her brother.

I like the 3-5-2 formation.

AS IT STANDS (of course we still have more friendlies to play that could change my opinion), these are my picks based on 3-5-2.

Key: ...... (slots yet to be filled)

blueto:
Greetings!

This is my preferred starting eleven for now in the 3-5-2 formation.
Moses should start for the RWB role while the likes or Ebuehi and Shehu can come in as subs. We can recall during the last world cup edition in 2014, Moses couldn't do very well against world cup teams in a forward role, despite his impressive runs against African teams in Afcon and other subsequent games against African sides, so why not avoid the same mistakes this time?

Another point is that, he can also impress in the wing back role, he is indefatigable in running, he can draw players to himself, thereby providing more space for Iheanacho and Iwobi to do some serious damages to the opponent's defenses. He can also drift in the 18 yard box to cause havoc when Nigeria is attacking just like how Idowu was found in the 18 yard box of Argentina too from the LWB role.

Another very important thing that Nigeria stands to benefit if Moses plays wing back is a very good defensive cover. Chelsea rarely concedes a goal from the right side if Moses is on the pitch and he is playing RWB, I can tentatively say that Chelsea have NOT conceded a goal from that right side with Moses playing the RWB role and even if they have, it will be on very few occasions. he always have that side looked against any team, and since he got injured now, Chelsea have been conceding many goals from there, which goes to show what Moses have been offering in that role. Now imaging him playing that role again for Nigeria and replicating that form, that will be a big plus to Nigeria.

Another point is that the flow between Mikel, Iwobi and Iheanacho combination should not be tempered with for now. If Moses is made to play a forward role now, his style of football may not suit the flow and thereby disrupting it. The combination between Mikel, Iwobi and Iheanacho have been devastating to defenses and should continue.

Why I picked Ogu ahead of Onazi for now is because of his good combination with Ndidi. We see the best of each other (Ndidi and Ogu) when they play. Ogu have showed he also has some pace and can use his positioning also to neutralize attacks, which can come in handy against those highly rate teams.

Awaziem is good with his left foot so he should play in the LCB role while Balogun should move to the center beacause of his "lack of pace."

So here is my preferred line up for now

1. Siblings are different. So just because a family member makes a decision does that throw questions on the entire family?
2. Your judgement on patriotism. Maybe you need to expatiate

goldfish80:
I remember Philip Idowu, he represented in England in long jumps.

I sensed political undertone abit from Aluko's case because his sister refused playing for Nigeria. If they were as patriotic as we think, they both should have played for naij.

Sone could have political ambitions in the future. It would have been impossible for him to get top political appointment if he represented another country. Recall Fashanu, even with his connections and influence was not permitted to run for any electoral office in the glass house.
He tried a couple of times and gave up.

I checked the Russia2018 World Cup Regulations book, and there was no such thing like that. Is it a new rule?

Well this is what I got from page 24 (List of Players):

19 List of players
1.
Each association entering the preliminary competition shall provide the FIFA
general secretariat with a provisional list of at least 50 prospective players for
the preliminary competition no later than 30 days before its fi rst qualifying
match. This list shall show each player’s last name, fi rst name, current club,
date of birth and passport number as well as the coach’s last name, fi rst name,
date of birth and nationality.
2.
This list is not binding. Further players may be added, showing the same
information, at any time but no later than the day before the qualifying match
in question.
3.
The only document considered to be valid proof of a player’s identity and
nationality shall be a passport that explicitly states the player’s day, month
and year of birth. Identity cards or other supporting offi cial documents shall
not be accepted as a valid means of identifi cation. The participating member
associations shall present each player’s valid national passport for the country
of the participating member association to the FIFA Match Commissioner
on the day before the match. A player without a valid passport shall not be
entitled to play.
4.
23 players may be entered on the start list (11 players and 12 substitutes).
The 11 fi rst-named players must start the match, the other 12 are designated
as substitutes. The numbers on the players’ shirts must correspond with the
numbers indicated on the start list (numbers 1-23 only). All goalkeepers and
Preliminary competition 25
the captain must be identifi ed as such. Three players must be goalkeepers,
with the number 1 shirt reserved for one of them.
5.
Both teams must return their start list to the referee at least 85 minutes before
kick-off. They shall also provide the referee with two copies of their start list.
The opposing team can request one of these copies.
6.
After the start lists have been completed, signed by the team administrator
and returned to the referee, and if the match has not yet kicked off, the
following instructions apply:
a) If any of the fi rst 11 players (starting players) listed on the start list are not
able to start the match for any reason, they may be replaced by any of the
12 substitutes. The replaced player(s) may no longer take part in the match,
and the quota of substitute players shall be reduced accordingly. During
the match, three players may still be replaced.
b) If any of the 12 substitutes listed on the start list are not able to be fi elded
for any reason, the player(s) concerned may not be replaced on the bench
by an additional player, which means that the quota of substitutes shall be
reduced accordingly. During the match, three players may still be replaced.
7.
Although no longer eligible to play as a substitute, the injured or ill player who
was removed from the start list may be seated on the substitutes’ bench, and if
so, would then also be eligible for doping control selection.
8.
No more than 23 people (11 offi cials and 12 substitutes) shall be allowed to
sit on the substitutes’ bench. The names of these offi cials must be indicated
on the “Offi cials on the Substitutes’ Bench” form to be provided to the FIFA
Match Commissioner. A suspended player or offi cial will not be allowed to sit
on the substitutes’ bench.
9.
The use of any electronic communication equipment and/or systems between
and/or amongst players and/or technical staff is not permitted.

You can have a 4-4-2 formation. The selection of players can make it attacking or defensive. Yet it is still 4-4-2.

Playing Seychelles in March won't have been a bad idea, unless we can arrange two friendlies in March.

Mujtahida:
It's not looking like a good decision. Moreover like you suggested earlier playing the qualifiers in March can also double as part of WC preparations.

Let's not look at things exclusively from the WC perspective and leave the Afcon to suffer cos the real consequences of that decision will settle in after the WC is over. European, South American and other federations will go home and we be suffering congested Afcon qualifiers timetable.

One advice for you. Read your submission at least once before you post.
I have bolded your first line. Read through it again and again. Now tell me what it means.

TheGoodJoe:
They played to instruction because Rohr set-up the team to play negative due to his personnel selection. You can not select Sergio Ramos to play as a defensive midfielder and expect him to play like Yaya Toure playing the same role. Even if you instruct him to play like Fernandinho, he can not. So using the term play to instruction is not precise.

First line was off point.. how about the subsequent lines? Does it not refute your assumption?

TheGoodJoe:
Your first line is totally off point. I said Rohr wanted to keep it tight at the back and chose players to help him achieved that. When we were down, he opted for players who can contribute more offensively.

The formation can not be only played one way.
.

TheGoodJoe , here it is:

"I keep asking him: 'When are you going to come and play for Nigeria?' and he jokes: 'Whenever you come and invite me I will play!" Mikel told Goal. "I think it is something that we would have to discuss.
"If he wants to play, we would have to speak to the federation and make sure that he really wants to play for Nigeria. If he is ready, we can talk about, but in the few times we have talked about it, he hasn’t given me a very positive, decisive answer to take back to the FA.
"I need a positive answer for me to take the case forward to the FA. We will see what happens."

haha.. oya dig the story of Aina and Mikel.. If I am wrong I will concede..

Okay so which player did we try to convince after he had said no? let's put this in perspective

TheGoodJoe:
Mikel asked Aina are you ready to play for Nigeria. Finish.

Aina asking if Nigeria has invited him does not add up. We do not know if he is ready to play for us. Until we know before he can get an invitation.

That is not begging. That is Enquiring if Idowu is willing to play for us. No beef with that. The problem is if he says no r he is not sure and then we want to convince I'm to play for us. That is begging.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 11:05pm On Nov 16, 2017
oga long talk. You are saying he chose the wrong players for that formation, simple. Then that's not far from what that writer was saying. The writer said Aina and Shehu did not play well according to what the formation demands. It's pretty much the same.. just that you seem to be blaming the coach for his wrong choice. while the writer is blaming the players.
But hey, don't forget Aina bombed forward when he played against Zambia. Shehu also bombed forward in what led to Iwobi's goal. In Shehu's impressive games for SE, he was seen going forward, and combining very well. They were not just good enough against Argentina.

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:59pm On Nov 16, 2017
No Mikel told Aina he should play for Nigeria. And Aina asked if Nigeria has invited him. Does that not sound like "that's not how things are done"?
So you then go to Mikel and ask him, what did Aina say? Which kind toasting bet that.. e just be like those days when guys dey send pickin to go talk to girl.. lol

So Rohr calling Idowu is not "begging"? What if Idowu said no, won't you say that's a slap in the face? Won't it hurt the pride you were trying to protect?

TheGoodJoe:
We do not have a scanner to find the not feeling Nigerian crew. So when I say enquire is like Mikel Obi asking Aina when he is willing to play for us or Rohr calling Idowu to enquire if he will play for us. If someone called Alaba, no beef.

If the player says he is not interested or if he is dragging his feet, no need for further contacts to convince. Let him know the door is open and when he is willing to play for us, he can let us know (declare).

No need going all out to convince a player who finds it strange playing for us. Or a player who has a burning desire to play for another country over us.

You still havn't explained the process of enquiring.

Who is the not feeling Nigerian crew, at what moment do you realize they are not feeling Nigerian? When they fail to declare? Please explain the process of enquiring. I would so love to understand.

TheGoodJoe:
So, the not felling Nigerian crew who are sitting down and want us to do everything for them to play for us are doing it the hard way. Abi?

Let them be waiting for red carpet or Rohr to call and say I have been following you. Because, that is not the lazy way.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 10:43pm On Nov 16, 2017
Just say Shehu and Aina played to instruction, at least we can start arguing from there.. When you say set up, it looks like you are talking about formation

TheGoodJoe:
Analysis is making assumptions by watching playing patterns. I even went as far as pointing out our turnover rate to express that we were playing conservatively in the first half. It is something I have sang about repeatedly and called for a more offensive set up.

Rohr played in a conservative manner and Shehu played it well. When Rohr switched to a more offensive set-up, Ebuehi excelled. So I am against tagging Shehu poor because he played well with respect to the set-up.

Do you remember Chelsea playing a similar formation against Manchester City but the set-up was negative.

Netherlands Yet To Give Up On Luring Eagles Latest ‘Oyibo’ Sensation Ebuehi

Dutch journalist Jermain Leitbig says the Netherlands are still hopeful of convincing Super Eagles right full back Tyronne Ebuehi to play for their senior national team.
Born in the Netherlands to Nigerian parents, the ADO Den Haag full back impressed a lot of Nigerians when he came on as a substitute for the Super Eagles in their 4-2 win over Argentina on Tuesday.
Despite playing for Nigeria in that game, he is still eligible to represent Holland and Jermain Leitbig says he will definitely be considered as the Dutch begin a process of rebuilding following failure to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.
” I hope you know he only played in a friendly game for Nigeria, and not a competitive game hence he can still play for the Netherlands. He plays in a position where the Dutch are short of options, so he could be an option”, Leitbig told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” Unless he plays for Nigeria next year, the Netherlands are still in with a chance to convince him, afterall it wasn’t like they didn’t try to stop him when he made the move to switch to Nigeria.

” Let’s wait but for now Nigeria hold the advantage of having him but no doubt Holland will be monitoring his performance for ADO Den Haag. The battle for his future is far from over”.

How is that a suggestion? A suggestion for the NFF to announce to the world that anyone who wants to play for Nigeria should just declare?
How do we achieve that since that is your suggestion?

TheGoodJoe:
That is not an assumption. It is more of a suggestion. They should know it is easier to get reached when they declare.

Gerrit?
