All the countries I mentioned has been colonised by British.. china was colonised by British, same as India.. and yes most people in all this countries also speak English but it’s not their primary language.. i don’t have any problem at all for people to speak English and other foreign languages.. but our own language first..

If you don’t know where you are coming from you won’t know where you are going to.. Your own language is a form of identity.. if you are been stripped of your language, culture and identity.. then who are you ? There is nothing good about using your oppressors language after hundreds of years of slavery and colonolization and current era of recolonisation and economic slavery.. it’s still slavery to be using other people language as your official language when you have your own language.. To me english is no More superior to my yoruba language.. I’m not British or english.. why should I be using their language.. I will suggest you do a quick google search for most countries and understand the solution to having multiple ethnicity or language in a countries doesn’t necessarily mean you have to use english as a solution.. countries should learn to think outside the box and be innovative.. china alone has over 300 official languages, India as about 121 languages.. are they using English?

Nigeria starts in 1914, and before then, a few traders dealing with other ethnic groups used interpreters, which was additional cost to the traders. People rarely go outside their ethnic boundaries, therefore don't have much reasons to communicate with outsiders.

Besides, English has been using as a mean of communication to various ethnic groups in Nigeria by British about 2 centuries before amalgamation, so it is not new or allien to the country.

Remember English language in Nigeria is less than 100 years.. and the first university is less than 65years.. We have been co-existing, trading and communicating for several thousands of years before English came to Nigeria.. may be a bit of history will teach us how we have been communicating and how we can improve on the previous communication used

Do understand that English is Not our language and it can never be. English belongs to White people from England, USA Canada etc.. We are african and have our on tribe/ language here in Nigeria.. A Yoruba man can never become an English man, or Irish or welsh.. Same as an English man can never be a Yoruba man.. All other developed and advanced country use their own language to teach, communicate and as an official language.( such as Germany, Japan, china, etc) It’s still a form of colonisation to be using your colonial masters language.. I hope the policy will be extended towards secondary and tertiary institutions as well as work place.. it will be great for our country..

To me, this is not a good policy. A kid will perfectly understand his/her mother tongue language as long as the parent spoke it at home.

English is our official language, failure to introduce it early in the life of young kids will only make them lag behind in future. How do you expect such children to compete with other kids in national and international competitions.

There should be ways to make things better where ever you are are.. if you are not married.. find a wife or husband, go to the gym.. find an hobby you enjoy or volunteering job that can allow you socialise and make some friend.. find some extra business you can do that will
Keep you busy.. even naija can be lonely if you no get money sometimes.. remember we only have one life to live.. today is a part and past in your life so do what you can to make it enjoyable.. you should also look at the positive side knowing it’s a temporary.. imagine your kids having choice of Canadian passport and a better life for your generations to come.. I again yourself meeting your financial goal and moving back to Nigeria and building your dream home etc.. stay positive

Earlier this year, I went back in time to few years back when I was doing so well in Nigeria. The noises from friends and all nurtured the decision to move abroad inside of me. I became so restless till I finally leave. The first day in Canada was the day I knew this place isn't where I can be forever. Most of us would have come back before the time we had in mind except for the fact that I don't still have enough. If I want to travel to naija for vacation now, I will need up to $4k. If I take that away from my savings, I don't know how I can recover.

No one tells about the downside of this place. I feel lonely, depressed and empty most times. Because no one to talk to, just everyone in my workplace goin about their business. If I make attempt to talk to them, they just waive it with a smile. It's been 3years here and the people I still talk to on video call are friends from Nigeria. It's been 3years and my savings is still Short of $20k despite how much my friends in Nigeria do tell me how easy it is for me to make money abroad but I never tell them my situation. I can't wait to make enough and leave Canada for good. I know a lot will come at me with the usuall "come back to Nigeria na", please this is not an attempt to denigrate your abroad heaven, just for me to rant out and be fine
