Music they say "it's food for the soul". Its origin dates as far back as the stone age!. The world of music has produced many Super stars who contributed one way or the other to the growth of music which has made music become a universal language that cut across racial, religious, ethnic and tribal barriers.

Many people have ventured into the world of music and those who possess uncanny talent in the art, entrenched their foot prints in the sands of time which has earned them a place in History, People like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig Von Beethoven, Luciano Pavarotti, Rudy Carpenter, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, The Temptations, Michael Jackson et cetera.

Nigeria too has her own fair share of people who have left their footprints in the sands of time in regards to music, People like Bongus Ikwe, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Christy Essien Igbokwe, Onyeka Onwenu, Oritz Wiliki, The Mandators, Mike Okri, Charly boy, Evelyn Edna Ogolie, Peter Side Otong, Tina Onwudiwe, Stella Monye, Funmi Adams, Blackky, Majeck Fasheck, et cetera.

One thing you'll have to admit is, apart from the fact that music serves as a source of lively hood for these people, they also use their God given talent to try and pass a 'Positive message' that will impact positive ideals to people all over the world!. Ideals that will make an individual become useful to his or her society.

In modern day Nigeria, you'll notice that, what music was in those days is not what is now! It has been polluted and subjected to all forms of moral degradation to the extent that the very essence of it has been flushed down the drain. You'll discover that most people who venture into music, see the art of music as a means of escaping poverty!. Because of the fact that many of our Nigerian artiste of today are from poor background and music paved a way for them to emerge as millionaires.

When you listen to the songs of today and compare them to those of old, you'll discover a Paradigm shift has occur, one so annoying glaring you shed tears of sorrow when you think about it. The artiste of old sang songs with many positive messages, that is, messages of hope, joy, love, peace, tolerance, forgiveness, et cetera. Little or nothing can be said of our musicians of today who have completely bastardize the very art of music.

The music of today have done nothing more than corrupt and pollute the minds of the youth! When you carefully listen to the songs being played today you'll only discover just three type of messages there, that is Alcohol/Marijuana, Women/Sex and Money. Apparently the videos of these songs of nowadays display all sorts of pervasiveness, such as blatant show of nudity, sex, alcohol, and an amazing show of opulence.

If music is "food for the soul" then one is not surprised that it has course all manner of untold backwardness and perversion to the mind of the Nigerian youth. You will observe a child barely four years of age who can't even recite A, B, C to Z but is able to sing 'go gaga going crazy' and 'first of all, go down low' from begining to end!. Small wonder the youth of today have adopted the 50 cent slogan of 'get rich or die trying' and all forms of sexual innuendos as their modus operandi.

I believe its time we go back to the drawing board and ask ourselves, what went wrong? How did we fall down the drain?. What is responsible?. It is only when we do this and try to correct the ways of musicians of today that our kids will grow up and be steadfast and become the leaders we so much want them to be!. Let us remember, "What is worth doing, is worth doing well".

Nairaland GeneralNigerian Women And Their Zeal For Competition! by joseph1832(op): 10:37am On Nov 24, 2012
Over the years, I've come to notice a very prevailing trend among our Nigerian women of today, A trend they take so serious you'll have to admit that should they focus their time and energy on something else, something more productive which adds value to them, they'll stand Primus inter paras.

The trend am speaking of is their innate ability to 'Compete' with one another. Competition is what some Nigerian women came to this world to do. Its the very essence of their existence.

Yesterday I overheard a girl talking to her friend telling her that she'll get a "Blackberry Bold 5 by fire by force because her other friend bought one, and that friend is now forming for her 'cause she use a Blackberry Curve 2". Immediately I started reminiscing back in the days when I was in Uniben, where competition is the main event of the typical uniben girl, Infact if you don't compete you're almost seen as a lesser being. They compete on almost all the mundane things you can think of such as who's prettier, whose got bigger boobs, whose boyfriend is more handsome, whose got a boyfriend and who hasn't, who wears finer cloth, who's is loaded and who's not!

Even today the level of competition is still in trend, you'll notice in Nollywood the way the female actresses always want to out do each other, exempli gratia This actress released a single, that actress followed suit, then came another, This Nollywood actress drives the most expensive car, the rest female actresses went to buy expensive cars, this Nollywood actress is married, the rest went head long and started getting married, that Nollywood actress is separated and divorced, other Nollywood actress followed suit and got divorced... I mean what the hell! (Pardon my outburst). Even our women in the corporate world are still guilty of this.
What I find amusing is that they never seem to compete on the important things such as who's intelligent or who's brilliant, who's gonna make 1st class, or 2.1, whose going for Msc or who's not, Who's 'happily' married, who has a successful carrier without scandals, or who's the true embodiment of an African woman etc. They should all take a lesson from Joke Silva.

My question now is, why do most Nigerian women like to compete? Is it part of their genetic make up or is it something they picked up while growing up?. The answer Is yours to find!.

PoliticsThe Mystery Of Aso Rock by joseph1832(op): 10:14am On Nov 23, 2012
You'll have to agree with me that Nigeria is fast becoming a country flowing with all sorts of mystery. Everyday we hear stories that leaves our jaw wide open in wonderous awe, that one might be unwilling to ask what is responsible for this mysteries?!.

Just like the country is full of untold and unspoken mysteries, the citadel of power, that is the building that house the most powerful man in the country as well as the number one citizen of the country has its own mysteries, mysteries that might even make an individual afraid should that individual decides to occupy the seat of Power. Let me give you a giude.

Ever since Rtd General Ibrahim Babangida relocated to Aso Rock from Dodan Barracks, The Rock as I'll like to call it has been one haven of unspoken mystery. After he reluctantly step aside, those who occupied the seat of power have been faced with one thing in common; 'the loss of a relative or loved one'. Here's a list of those who have died while occupying the Aso Rock Villa.
The first to go was the late General Sani Abacha who died on June 8 1998, you'll all agree that the circumtances surrounding his death courses one to lift an eye brow!. Next on the list was our former lovely first lady Stella Obasanjo who died while undergoing elective liposuction in a spanish clinic on 23 October 2005. Former President Umar Yar' Adua ( A man I respect) was next, the antecedents surrounding his death almost threw country in quagmire because his absence left a very dangerous vacuum in the seat of power, He died on 5 May 2005 In Aso Rock. More recently President Goodluck Jonathan reported lost a brother to the claws of death. Even Rtd General Babangida after leaving Aso Rock lost his wife Maryam Babangida to the claws of death.

One might ask; how come those who occupy and occupied the seat of power tend to lose someone so close them? The only ones who have occupied the seat of power and not lost anyone close to them are Chief Ernest Shonekan and Rtd General Abdulsalam Abubakar (This might be attributed to the fact that they didn't occupy the seat of power for too long) The answer, I leave you to decipher.

Christianity EtcFootball A Religion That Unites Like No Other! by joseph1832(op): 5:18pm On Nov 22, 2012
You'll quite agree with me that football (soccer) is now becoming something more loved and admired than most religion in the world! The origin of football dates as far back as 225BC, but the most interesting thing about this game is the amount of passion and emotion people ascribe to it. Some people might even say football is a religion of it own, before I go further let me take a sneak peak and give some simple definition of religion. The oxford advance learners dictionary gives us three simple definition of what religion is. First is the belief in the existence of God or gods, Second is a particular system of faith and worship based on religious beliefs and Third is a controlling influence on ones life; a thing that one feels very strongly about.

Based on these definitions you'll quite agree that like the famous religion of the world that is, Christianity and Islam, Football quite satisfies the three definition above. Let us look at this critically, the first definition spoke of a belief in God or gods, I believe Football has a God attached to it, how often have you heard football fans say the God of football will never abandon their clubs in times of need! The second spoke of a particular system of faith and worship... Football also meet this criteria, owing to the fact that millions of fans troop to the stadium (synagogue or church if you like) to (worship) watch their stars (pastors or reverend) dazzle them with amazing tactics. See it this way, God of Football, players (pastors), Fans (followers), Stadium (church) and Referee (ushers), and the third spoke of something an individual feel strongly about... This is my strongest point, many people have strong feelings attached to football particularly to their clubs or country to the extent that they are willing to wound, maim and kill for it, something that is very present in our religion today.

I need to emphasize strongly and passionately that what religion (christianity and islam) have failed to do, Football have done it times without number that is bringing both christians and muslims as well as hindus and buddhist under one roof to co exist peacefully. Football is the only religion that brings people of different tribe, ethnic and religious background together under one roof!.

Like every other religion, football also has its fair share of violence! Violence in football goes as far back as the origin of the game or better still religion itself! We've seen and heard about many attacks being carried out by football bigots or fans.

Whatever the level of violence or hooliganism associated to football is, you'll have to agree with me that "football is more than a game" its a positive source of income and it unites even the greatest of enemies!.

Relationships is something I generally don't like talking about, but one can hardly ignore the level of narrow mindedness being paraded by both party involved. You'll notice the way guys always try to blame the girls whenever this issue springs forth, same goes for the girls.

But what I can't seem to phantom is the way some girls go around parading some disturbing messages on Blackberry messenger! I saw this message on a girls pm (private message) on bbm that goes thus: "Lord give me a guy I can happily pound yam for cos majority of these guys nowadays deserve indomie without egg". This particular message is now so rampant on bbm that I am completely 'whelmed by it. It is now a known fact that the majority of the Nigerian girls (youth) can't even cook, so I ask, how can someone who can't even light a stove boil indomie? Even the ones who can even cook produce tasteless meals that I find appalling! I've encountered many girls whose performance in the kitchen makes me shed tears. Even when you provide them with necessary ingredients you'll discover that the meal that emanate is nothing to write home about!. When our mothers were girls there was no seasoning like we have today, it was strictly salt and pepper, yet the meal was 'off tha schizzle' I ask this when God finally gives you that man who deserves pounded yam you end up giving him bread and coke right!.

Another message is one that I feel very uncomfortable with, "you sleep with a runz girl you give her 15k, your girlfriend comes to your house, wash your cloth, iron them, clean the house and you give her 3k, then you say you are testing her, na God go punish you!" I wonder the basis of this, I ask this, do a girl go out with a boy because of money? I know of a girl who vehemently told me that she can't date a guy who doesn't have money! So if your complaining that your BF is giving you 3k, please go and look for a job! You are not the one who worked for the money neither are you the one who will tell him how he spends his money. A guy appreciates a lady who is self sufficient. What majority of these self style runz girls go through at the hands of some animals (guys) is inhuman! Should you want to suffer the same inhuman treatment, the choice is yours!

If you dating a guy just 'cause he's loaded and he doesn't lavish the money on you, don't complain, 'cause when he starts, you'll begin to see the beast in him (am not saying its bad to spend cash on your GF). If you so desire money, work hard for it (legitimately) when a girl is loaded, and her man is loaded you have a fusion of cash (after all na corperation make rice full pot). Don't be a leach.

PoliticsNigeria, The 8th Wonder Of The World! by joseph1832(op): 2:49pm On Nov 21, 2012
Many of us have often heard about the seven wonders of the world, I believe what makes them a wonder is due to some unbelievable marvel they possess upon gazing at them. The seven wonders of the world are relative non living things, they are, Colossus of Rhodes, Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Lighthouse of Alexandria, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus and The Colossus Of Rhodes. These objects are a marvel during there era, one can't help to ponder about the architecture and the enormous among of energy put into creating these things. So what do these things have in common, in one word 'Wonder'. Now, it is with this word (wonder) that I introduce to you, the 8th wonder of the world, The Federal Republic Of Nigeria. (Round of Applause) what makes Nigeria a wonder? Permit me to give you a few clues. 1. Nigeria blessed with both human and natural resources and reputed to be the most populous black nation in the world still remains an under develop country. 2. Nigeria a country where about 34 million citizens live without toilets. 3. Nigeria a country where a political party contested and won election without having a manifesto. 4. Nigeria a country despite the economic hardship, the average citizen still enjoys himself one way or the other. 5. Nigeria a country where you'll find a full graduate of a tertiary institution unable to construct a sentence or give you a simple definition of a noun, verb, pronoun etc. 6. Nigeria reputed to be the second most if not the most corrupt country in the milky way. 7. Nigeria a country where you find majority of its citizens are utterly shameless! 8. Nigeria a country where the majority of its citizens voted in a President just because he had no shoes when he was a Child. 9. Nigeria a country where the level of gullibilty of its citizens its totally un parallel. 10. Nigeria a land flowing with milk and honey, but only the political elite gain from the milk and honey. The list is endless... When you critically look at the Federal Republic of Nigeria you just can't help but wonder and ponder about the events occurring within her borders, If there's one word I can use to describe my country its 'wonder' I honestly believe Nigeria has earn a place among the wonders of the world because she is so riddled with wonder!.
Christianity EtcHow To Free Your Mind From Religion. by joseph1832(op): 9:46am On Nov 20, 2012
It's a known fact that Nigerians are very "touchy" when it comes to religion, and given the fact that in every nook and cranny in the country one can't fail to see either a church or a mosque lurking around! You would expect that given this state Nigerians should to be up and doing, trust worthy, honest etc because religion weather christian or islam forbides their followers from doing contrary! But reverse is the case, it comes without great surprise that even with our religious bigotry, Nigerians are among the most corrupt people in the world! With the level at which churches and mosques spring up from left right and centre you would expect something entirely different, My question now is what are we not doing right? Or what went wrong?. Permit me to answer this question. 1. It is a known fact that the majority of Nigerian populace are half wits and basically non compos mentis, this is the reason why you discover that we are so easily deceived by Pastors and Imams who either use rhetorics or miracle to deceive us. 2. Relgion as Karl Marx once said is the "Opium of the People" Nigerians are so intoxicated with Religion that the are so very willing to kill for that religion, something the Bible and the Quran strongly speak against. 3. Many Nigerians now believe their Pastors or Imams to be demi-gods if not god! You'll notice all over the country the way many christians model themselves to look like their Pastors. Jesus Christ already said "I am the way, the truth and the light, no one comes to the father except through me" given this statement one wonders why so many are still being lead by the nose. 4. "There can't be bad government without bad people" this statement goes a long way to say the people ( we Nigerians) are the product of our government because the government is selected from the people and the people is the government. 5. Nigerians lack to ability to read, carry out research etc... The bible said "test every spirit to know weather it is of God" our inability to do this have rendered us useless in the hands of wealth seeking Pastors, who go around spreading their myopic understanding of the Bible. If every Nigerian where to cultivate the reading habit, they will never find themselves such easy prey for Pastors to lynch on. I for one knows what it is for one to be too dependent on someone. Those who knew the old me will testify that a change is present, why simple, because I started studying 'hard' I encourage everybody to do the same because when you 'know' you stand Unique.

I want to categorically state it that am amazed at the level some Nigerians (including the educated) think. It comes with out shock and surprise that when it comes to religion in this country many of the so called religious tend to lose their sense of reasoning, infact the metamorphose into Zombies. The recurring issues of pastors and their affluent lives calls for deeper reason, I read an ariticle where the writer was saying all sorts of hogwash and mundane things about how God will punish us if if continue to lampoon Pastors. Of course not all Pastors in Nigeria are bad, A fact am very well aware of but the truth is the majority of them are totally not good! The writer emphasised his points saying "God will deal with Nigerians course of the way we attack Pastors" what a marvel! At this golden age an educated individual can still reason like this, I ask this; Majority of our Nigerian Politicians are christians and they belong to one church or the other, why is it that their Pastors are not berating them about the way they totally neglect their responsibilties, instead they keep mute and enjoy the lavish gifts the Politicians shower on them! Any body, be him a Pasotor or an Individual who keeps mute when suffering is around him/her, commits sin! Nigerians should wake up and smell the air around them! Majority of our Pastors don't give a hoot about their followers, all they care about is the continuation of their lavsih live style! Nothing more mothing less!, If Pastors and Imams come together and challenge the FG over their negligence I believe you'll see rapid changes! I truely hope all is not lost for us in Nigeria, let us remember that "the deepest pit in hell is reserve for those who keep mute in the face of oppresssion"

Beyond reasonable dought one can actually say that the problem of Religion now adays isn't just the Pastors who lavishly squander their wealth gotten through playing with the psyche of the Nigerian masses. But the masses themselves. Religion today serves as an anchor for many Nigerians who have supposedly lost Faith in their Government but found faith in Pastors, small wonder one has to noticed the way churches spring up from every nook and cranny all over the federation with the Pastors of these churches who now sound like a broken record when they say "God called me". Many Nigerians have failed to distinguish between a man who said God called him and a man whom God actually called!. Sighting the way many Nigerian Pastors stopped preaching about the good news but have derailed into preaching about Prosperity, Success and Wealth. I ask if wealth is such an important factor in getting to heaven why did Jesus Christ tell the richman to sell all what he had and follow him?, why didn't Jesus and his disciples preach about wealth and prosterity everytime?. People have continously ask me "how do you know a true man of God?" I'll say this: A man of God is a man who will never keep mute in the face of oppression and Intimidation, A true man of God will speak the truth no matter what (even if his life is threathened). Like Nigerians that we truely are, we always tend to ignore important details... How can a man say he's called by God and he is filled with such tremendous quantity of Hubris?. The list goes on and on, Some men of God in Nigeria don't even care about their flock, all they care about is the continous flow of offering as well as the sowing of seed and the steady flow of Tithes from members. Our men of God today should take a cue from the likes of Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu, Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul. Martin Luther King and Desmond Tutu didn't keep mute when their countries was plagued with oppresssion and injustice, they stood up and led their followers.... The situation we now have in Nigeria is just as similar to that of U.S during the Racist period and South Africa during Apatheid! I ask this, how many of our Nigerian Pastors today can emulate King and Tutu? How many of them speak ill of the evil that runs amok in our country, how many of them speak to the FG about their oppressive policies which only favours the elite and not the masses, I leave you to answer these questions.
