No, but it's one of the ways. I hope you know Esan language is fast on the road to dying out. In fact, at the present rate, there'll be no Esan speakers by 2132 AD. If political leaders aren't concerned about about that, I don't know who should be and who will save the language.

Lucky Igbinedion that spoke the language very well, what did he offer to the people of Edo?
Including almost all the past governors that can speak the language. No wonder Edo state has perpetually remained behind in the scheme of performing States because we look for the most trivial of reasons to crown one as Governor.

I fully support Peter Obi, any day and any time and twice on election days, but I will pick Asue Ighodalo over any other nonentity Governorship candidates because his track records and excellence in the public and especially private sector is very similar to Peter Obi's. As a matter of fact, I would gladly put in as freelance to work with Asue Ighodalo if possible.
Right. But the man for try learn Esan small sha.

You passed Abraham as a prophet because he "heard from God REGULARLY and was shown future events." i pass him off as a prophet because God called him a prophet. Isaac also "heard from God REGULARLY and was shown future events." Nothing wrong with your niece hearing from God or is there? You seem like you're trying to trivialize it here.
As to what i do in marriage, i follow the new testament examples. TWO become ONE is also clear enough for me. And when a thread says that NO prophet married only one wife in the Bible, to make room for fleshly desires, i say satan is a liar and the father of liars.
No, not trivializing it. Just pointing out that “hearing from God”, on its own, doesn’t quality one as a prophet (ref: Cain, Manoah, Isaac, my niece, etc.)

It was the pattern to Abraham’s hearing from God, the depth of what he heard and the implications for the entire world that makes me think it’s not an error for you to call him a prophet. You say God called him a prophet, well, I don’t seem to recall the verse where God did that. But if God calling someone a prophet is your criterion, that’d certainly lose Isaac the slot you tried to award him.

Isaac DID NOT hear from God REGULARLY while being shown future events–certainly not in a manner close to his father. His wife heard more than him sef and should get a slot before him if we’re using this criterion.

New Testament example. Well, that’s a sound position to adopt. Some Christians just happen to find OT examples legit since Jesus did not nullify them and even the apostles did not. After all, some churches (e.g. Celestial) choose to be very heavy on the OT. And I really don’t think Oshoffa Jnr’s exaggeration (“no prophet”) nullified his point or made him a liar.

Isaac heard from God. i didn't refer to him as a prophet but since Oshoffa's son thinks he is a prophet because his father was referred to as one, Isaac gets a slot, too. All the scriptures serve as examples, including the patriarch Isaac, not only prophets.
"Isaac heard from God."
As does my niece. Her dreams always come to pass.

"i didn't refer to him as a prophet but since Oshoffa's son thinks he is a prophet because his father was referred to as one, Isaac gets a slot, too."
grin
I think Oshoffa Jnr was named a prophet by the church though.

"All the scriptures serve as examples, including the patriarch Isaac, not only prophets."
So what do you do/preach on the matter of marriage? Accept the example of Isaac and other patriarchs/prophets who married one wife and reject that of Jacob and others who married more than one? Well, I think that's one way to go about things. It only becomes a problem when you try to argue that only one example is good enough for Christians while the other is bad.

i stay where the Bible stays, simple. If the Bible doesn't give what you call a strict construction for prophet, who am i to? Who is a prophet? Was John the baptist a prophet? Was Abraham a prophet? Probably not in the sense that people understand. But God called him a prophet, so why should i say otherwise?
When did prophets become the standard for polygamy?
Abraham's son was Isaac. If Oshoffa's son thinks he's a prophet because they called his father one. Why should we exclude Isaac the son of prophet Abraham?
John the Baptist did the work of a prophet. Abraham was not a prophet in the classic sense. I mean, all the patriarchs before Moses (Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Job, etc.) were all priests since they performed animal sacrifices on behalf of their families. But they weren't necessarily prophets. Abraham, while not a classic, crusading prophet like Moses, Elijah or Isaiah, heard from God REGULARLY and was shown future events. So if we abandon a strict construction and take on an expanded definition, Abraham was a prophet. Isaac, however, was not. Unless I'm missing something, there's no biblical basis to say a prophet's son is a prophet. Moses's children certainly weren't designated as prophets.

Yes, prophets aren't the standard for conduct for Christians (only Jesus is) but they do serve as examples. Just like Paul, James and others. I think the idea of referring to them is that if they did something and God didn't condemn them for it, it means God didn't have a problem with it. Sounds reasonable.

The thread says No Prophet Married Only One Wife In The Bible. That is what has been proven wrong. i did not come here to tell you not to marry many wives. What is the definition of a prophet? Was Jacob a prophet? Does the Bible say when Moses married the Ethiopian? Can someone backbite about something that happened over 30years ago? i heard many people do that about our politicians. Backbiting is not limited by time.
The Bible somehow forgot to call Hagar as Abraham's wife, but consistently referred to her as Sarah's maid. i am convenient with sticking with the Bible's 'narrow' definition.
You adopt a strict construction for "wife" then go in the opposite direction for "prophet" - even though none of this is even important. You guys argue from conclusion to middle. It's always interesting to watch. As is your position on Miriam/Moses. smiley

Hagar was not a wife but a mistake, except you accept that polygamy is a mistake. Nobody joined them together or recognised them as husband and wife.
What's your Bible verse about Cushite being a second wife? That's a hypothesis by some, not stated in the Bible. Jethro and Reuel are the same person, right?
Anyway, at least you agree with Isaac abi? That settles it.
On Isaac, so every OT patriarch was a prophet in your book? Interesting position.

Wait, so when Moses married the Cushite and Miriam started to backbite him, you believe it's Jethro's daughter they were talking about?

If you say Haggar wasn't a wife, that's a very narrow definition of wife you have, which is fine. What's important is that Abraham had TWO women at the same time and had kids by them (which is what polygamous men do). He agreed to the arrangement and that did not affect his relationship with God. But what's really important is that MOST prophets were polygamous and God was find with it. Therefore, this is really just an academic debate.

In the NT churches, there must have been Christians with multiple wives–and nowhere were they cast out of the church. That's why Paul had to intervene specifically in the case of leaders (bishops and deacons), saying only with men with one wife should appointed.

Comedians. Apart from New Testament men of God, off the top of my head, i can mention Abraham, Isaac, and Moses. Except they don't qualify as prophets in his view.
Abraham and Moses had more than one wife. Isaac was not a prophet. But, of course, there were prophets with one wife. The fact, however, is that most of them had more than one.

Education › Re: Why Is There No Uniform Cut Of Marks For Unity Schools In Nigeria? by JuanDeDios: 3:50pm On Apr 27, 2024
StOla:
Straight answer is quota.

Every state has a quota, so whatever it takes to fill that quota versus the scores of the students from that state, is what you see as cut off mark.

No state has cheated another state. All have only fulfilled their respective quotas to benefit from the subsidised education that the federal government is providing to aid their unity objective of those Unity Schools.

It is not by force to attend a unity school which does not even constitute 5% of all the secondary schools in Nigeria.

Unity School system is a post civil war programme of the federal government to engender harmony and unity in Nigerian children.

I did not attend a unity secondary school and I made it in life.

That I did not enjoy the subsidised secondary education provided by Unity Schools, does not mean I did not enjoy the heavily subsidised public tertiary education that Nigeria provided that landed me a job in a multinational firm.

For that, I am grateful and free of student loans my foreign counterparts are paying.
@op, if it's an honest question you asked, this post is your answer.

If you see how I've sweated to explain this simple concept to educated Nigerians - to no avail, ehn? Now, when people whine about Unity Schools and "how can Anambra be... while Kebbi is..." (a whining they do every year), I just ignore them.
