SCAMMING ALLEGATION: FG INSISTS ON APOLOGY FROM U.S.
National Published: Saturday, 26 October 2013 21:11 Written by From Laolu Akande (New York) and Gbenga Akinfenwa (Lagos) Hits: 46
The Federal Government, Saturday, explained why it is demanding unreserved apology from the United States of America over a statement credited to one of its Senators, Ted Cruz, about Nigerians being involved in email scamming. An open letter from the Nigeria’s Ambassador to the US, Prof. Ade Adefuye, stated that the country wouldn’t sit back, fold its arms, while a politician assaults the integrity of the country and its people just to appease the base instincts of a few misguided elements in his constituency. “Our immediate reaction at the Embassy is to assume that you were wrongly quoted and that the statement would be denied. We are however surprised that this has not happened. We have no choice than to assume that the statement was deliberately made by you. “For a start, we are shocked that a high profile Senator of a country which is at the forefront in building a peaceful and stable world in which nations and peoples treat each other with mutual respect could be engaged in an act which offends the sensitivities of an important component of his constituency,” he said. Adefuye reminded the Senator of the numerous constructive contributions, which Nigerians have made to the economic, social and political lives of Texas especially in the Houston area. While saying that every country has its own share of law breakers, he warned that the activities of few should not be used as opportunity to cast aspersions on the integrity of a country and its people, saying it is not only unfair but also excessively offensive. “You yourself made the point that the so-called email scammers have disappeared from the scene. But it is not because they were recruited to work on Obamacare. It is because of the successful efforts of our government working through the Embassy and the international law enforcing agents to curb the activities of these few lawbreakers,” he stated. The Ambassador insisted that it is not the practice of any Nigerian diplomatic mission to interfere in the domestic affairs of its host countries. “Distinguished Senator, the least we can say is that Nigerians feel offended by you. They demand an apology,” he stated. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php/news/national-news/136820-scamming-allegation-fg-insists-on-apology-from-us__________ Una go wait tire for apology. Seriously, I think we are majoring in minor here. If the Nigerian ambassador can describe a few of Cruz's constituents as misguided - even though he doesn't know that - why can't Cruz talk about a few Nigerians who engage in scamming? Are there no Nigerian scammers? We should have just ignored this. And the second highlighted portion wasn't necessary. The senator was being facetious - the email scammers haven't disappeared or slowed down much. |

1MCN: This reporter just canonized the Melaye-led protesters absolute Saints. Some people had the priviledge of watching the video clip of the protest and saw the both parties. Again, Melaye also acquired a Bulletproof car while he enjoyed his short stay in the HoR. Maybe his protest is, 'Stella, why did you acquire a more expensive BPC?' Did I hear about 20 cars?!
What I notice in this whole debacle is that the SR gave a very detailed report of the entire stuff and because of their too obvious ethno-tribal curvature, surreptitiously roped Mrs Oduah into it by saying she 'forced' the agency to acquire.... Trust me, if Fola Akin was the minister and Stella was the DG of NCAA, the reporters would rather call for the head of the NCAA DG! While I don't want to hold forte for Mrs Stella, it's obvious that the same people that champion this 'Remove Her Crusade' are the same people asking for the removal of almost all Igbo cabinet members (unfortunately, these Igbo cabinet members are among the best performing members).
I've learned that here on NL it's only marketable if it the label reads Igbos in bad light.
Melaye should explain how he automatically rose into a billionaire in 4years in the House.
Tell me what you like, but hear a clear truth. I'm surprised you accept the report as detailed but reject the line about "forcing" the agency to acquire the cars. Maybe you know something I don't. I read SR and I don't have a very very high opinion of them, but I think accusing them of ethnic bias is inaccurate. In fact, I think it's low. You can accuse them of many things but "tribalism" is certainly not one of them. It's those who have been asking Nigerians to leave Mrs Oduah alone and calling her the best aviation minister rather than call for a thorough investigation by the security agencies that I find to be riding the ethnic bus in this matter. What we have here is a prima facie case of wrongdoing. What we need is an investigation - by the police or EFCC of ICPC. Not the panel Jonathan is setting up since administrative panels have no power to investigate criminal matters under Nigerian law. Why am I even bothering? This is Nigeria. PS: Your post contains some baseless allegations. I don't know where you people get this grand conspiracy against Igbos from. |
The part that displeases me the most was when the Judge said evidence such as torn clothes, torn cover and bruised Vagina be provided as evidence.... Surely, it is the work of the Police ( that is if we have medical experts that are trained to examine rape victims) to provide such evidence. We don't have such in Nigeria, so telling the victim to come up with such evidence after a painful ordeal (if she was indeed raped) is unprofessional and cruel. If we are to win the war against rapists in Nigeria, we need to to build rape-victim units across the country, where rape victims are examined and counselled within the first 24 hours of an attack. A special unit of the police will then visit the place to gather evidence. I personally don't blame the judge, the blame lies with our inept system. What if she was/wasn't telling the truth? It's hard to say with our current system.
Right Policewoman: So until i show a medical report, a bruised puzzy, stained bedsheet and pant, the court will not believe i'm raped? What happened to taking samples from her and analysing it for DNA match? smdh But that's the work of the police. The judge is merely saying your "DNA match" was not tendered before him. The police rushed to court without bothering about forensics, maybe hoping the girl's tears will sway the judge to convict. |

I am certain that if he had applied for employment in the ICT department of any government agency - including the NSCDC, he would have stood no chance at all. Instead, some incompetent buffoons hiding under the obnoxious cloak of 'connection', 'federal character', or worst of all, so-called "favour" would have been employed ahead of him - even when they cannot locate the power button on a computer. Tunisia’s ‘sex jihadis’ who were sent to Syria to have sex with 100 rebels EACH are coming home pregnant with their children
• Tunisian government minister reveals women who travelled to Syria to comfort Islamist opposition fighters in sexual jihad are returning pregnant • Lotfi ben Jeddou said women return home after 'having sexual relations with 20,30,100' front-line fighters • Minister insisted border security has been tightened to restrict young people from travelling to war-torn country • Earlier this year a group of girls reportedly went to rebel-held Northern Syria to offer themselves in 'sexual jihad' • Religious orders or 'fatwas' were reportedly circulated online calling on women to take part
By MARTIN JAY IN BEIRUT and JENNIFER SMITH
Tunisian women who have travelled to Syria to offer themselves to Islamist fighters are returning home pregnant with rebels' children, it has been revealed. A Tunisian government minister told members of parliament this week the women, who are waging 'sexual jihad', are 'having sexual relations with 20,30,100' men before returning to Tunisia pregnant. Interior Minister Lotfi ben Jeddou made the revelations at the National Constituent Assembly on Thursday, though didn't elaborate on the number of women who have returned in this condition.
'After the sexual liaisons they have there in the name of 'jihad al-nikah' -- (sexual holy war, in Arabic) -- they come home pregnant,' he said. Jihad al-nikah, permitting extramarital sexual relations with multiple partners, is considered by some hardline Sunni Muslim Salafists as a legitimate form of holy war. The minister also did not say how many Tunisian women were thought to have gone to Syria for such a purpose, although media reports have said hundreds have done so, France 24 revealed. However, Ben Jeddou also said that since he assumed office in March, 'six thousand of our young people have been prevented from going' to the country. He has said in the past that border controls have been boosted to intercept young Tunisians seeking to travel to Syria. Earlier this year a group of Tunisian girls travelled to rebel-held Northern Syria to offer themselves to opposition fighters. Their action came after growing in concern in Tunisia about religious orders or 'fatwas' that circulated the internet calling on Muslim women to perform jihad through sex. A Tunisian minister of religious affairs appealed to girls at the time not to be influenced by Islamic preachers outside of Tunisia who made a number of 'sexual fatwas'.
Noureddine al-Khadimi rejected 'sexual jihad' fatwas, urging Tunisian people and state institutions to not respond to them. Tunisian newspapers reported that a young Tunisian man divorced his wife, and that they both headed to Syria almost a month ago to 'allow her to engage in sexual jihad with the mujahideen' there. This report followed earlier ones of a video widely circulated on the internet and social websites in Tunisia shows the parents of a veiled girl called Rahmah, 17. They said Rahmahat disappeared from home one morning and they 'later learned that she had headed to Syria to carry out sexual jihad.' The young girl has since returned to her family, who have kept her out of sight, and said that their daughter is not a religious fanatic 'but was influenced by her fellow students who are known for their affiliation with the jihadist Salafist.' Her parents said these fellow students may have brainwashed her and convinced her to travel to Syria 'to support the mujahideen there.'
News websites and social networks in Tunisia circulated a fatwa attributed to Sheikh Mohamed al-Arifi in which he called upon 'Muslim women' to perform jihad through sex. However, sources close to the sheikh denied that he had issued the fatwa, stressing that anyone who circulates or believes it is insane. Saudi Arabia was widely considered to be financially backing the Syrian rebels fighting in Northern Syria and whose hardcore ‘Salafist’ strand of Islam influences a great number of the young fighters – many of whom are ‘jihadists’ and come from all around the world, including the UK. Reports in Tunisia stressed though that the fatwa had gained much attention on pro-Syrian regime websites, the goal of which may be to tarnish the image of the Islamic fighters by stressing a key point of Syrian leader Bashar Al Assad that fundamentalists, supported by Salafist groups in Saudi Arabia, are amongst the Syrian rebels.
Al-Hadi Yahmad, a researcher on the affairs of Islamic groups, told Al-Hayat: 'The issue of sexual jihad was initially attributed to a Saudi sheikh who denied it, and this fatwa is abnormal and not endorsed by religious scholars.' He added that this fatwa — had it indeed been issued — may involve Syrian girls living in Syria, who can 'support the mujahideen by marrying them for a few hours.' Under Islamic law, a man can marry and consummate a marriage with his bride, before divorcing her the next day without any resistance from the bride or her family simply by following religious etiquette. Noor Eddin al-Khadimi, said that Tunisians should not abide by the fatwa. Her calls were duplicated by the Tunisian opposition also. Salma al-Raqiq, a Tunisian opposition figure, said that the 'jihad marriages' were a disgrace for the Tunisians. She also called on the authorities to start dealing with the increasing phenomenon of Tunisian jihadis heading to Syria to join radical Islamist groups. Al-Raqiq told the UPI press agency that the phenomenon was a dangerous one. She said that young girls, including minors, have been sent to Syria to 'marry' jihadis for a few hours. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2427113/Tunisias-sex-jihadis-sent-Syria-sex-100-rebels-EACH-coming-home-pregnant-children.html#ixzz2fWPKeYOK "Holy sex-ual jihad"! |
Politics › Ibori Confiscation Hearing: Mike Okiro The Most Despicable IGP, Ribadu Tells UK by JuanDeDios(op): 11:08am On Sep 21, 2013 |
Pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu, returned today to the Southwark Crown Court, London where he was cross-examined by lawyers for former Governor James Ibori of Delta State. At his first appearance yesterday to testify in a confiscation hearing over assets accumulated by Mr. Ibori with his loot, Mr. Ribadu told the court that the former governor, who is currently serving a 13-year jail sentence in the UK, had stolen as much as $500 million during his eight years in office.
At today’s proceeding, Mr. Ibori’s lawyer, Ivan Krolick, questioned the former EFCC boss on his testimony yesterday regarding $15 million bribe that the jailed governor had offered him. During cross-examination, Mr. Ribadu provided a more detailed account of the bribe which, in his testimony, was delivered to him in cash at the Abuja home of Andy Uba, a former domestic aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo. The former EFCC boss had also stated that he took possession of the cash and immediately deposited it at the Central Bank of Nigeria. He told the court that he wanted the CBN to count and hold the cash for the “people of Delta State,” adding, “I was very determined to return it.”
Mr. Krolick told the court that the bribe saga was “a plot hatched by Ribadu.” He insisted that “Ibori was not at the meeting at Andy Uba’s house, and no bribe was given by him. [Ibori] is in no way connected with this.”
A Nigerian legal analyst who watched the proceedings told SaharaReporters that the defense lawyer’s denial was “extremely weak and unconvincing,” adding that Mr. Ribadu’s account was corroborated by other EFCC operatives. “In addition, how could Ibori deny providing the funds when the physical cash is sitting at the Central Bank of Nigeria? Nuhu Ribadu’s evidence was compelling.”
Mr. Ribadu told the court that the EFCC under his control was extremely busy with more than 100 investigations on corrupt officials in Nigeria. He added that Mr. Ibori was both clever and determined not to get caught, recalling that as he and his team of investigators closed in on Ibori’s corrupt activities, the former governor made several overtures to befriend him. He testified that Mr. Ibori would telephone him “as much as 20 times a day; he was very persistent.” He further testified that the former governor became desperate as he feared that the investigation would make him “lose the governorship and the money.” He recounted that Mr. Ibori did not like EFCC investigators visiting his office and asking questions. In a telephone conversation, Mr. Ibori reportedly told the EFCC boss, “Stop it, stop it. Take the money and stop these investigations. I can give you more.”
Mr. Ribadu told the court that he played along with Mr. Ibori because he wanted to reclaim the bribe money for the people of Delta State. He added that he would have liked to catch the former governor in the act of handing him the cash, but Mr. Ibori enjoyed immunity from prosecution as a result of his office. The former EFCC chief told the court that he could not even question Mr. Ibori about the source of the bribe, adding that tracing its origins was an arduous task because of the huge number of banks in Nigeria.
He stated that then Governor Ibori offered to deliver the money to Ribadu’s home, an option Mr. Ribadu rejected. The former governor did not agree to deliver the cash to Mr. Ribadu’s office. In the end, according to Mr. Ribadu’s account, it was agreed to meet at Mr. Uba’s walled and gated “compound.”
He said the eventual meeting took place in the daytime on September 25, 2007, shortly after the former governor had lost his immunity from prosecution. He narrated how he met Mr. Ibori in a private room in Uba’s house, with only the former governor, his associates, and Mr. Ribadu sat. According to him, Mr. Ibori handed him the money after about 15 minutes. The cash was contained in dark-colored cases which Mr. Ibori opened to show the then EFCC chairman, before instructing his men to hand it over to Mr. Ribadu’s men who were waiting outside.
Mr. Ribadu told a riveted court that the money was immediately taken to the Central Bank of Nigeria and counted. He added that the CBN issued a receipt dated September 26, 2007 for $15 million.
The $15 million is still the subject of ongoing litigation between the federal government of Nigeria and Delta State. A Nigerian high court judge today deferred a ruling on the ownership of the funds till a later date.
The Crown prosecutors closed the confiscation hearing today by reading out the contents of an email exchange between Mr. Ibori and his UK lawyer the day before the bribe was delivered by the former governor. Mr. Ibori’s email read, “Just had a chat with my insider. Should [serve] as restitution…I can walk away, without a trace…”
Mr. Ribadu told the court that, shortly after the drama with Mr. Ibori, he was relieved of his EFCC post and ordered to attend a course at the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies at Kuru, Jos.
He narrated to the court that the “despicable Mr. Mike Okiro took over as the head of police as the Inspector General of Police.” He told the court that Mr. Okiro ordered the removal of his car and bodyguard, leaving him exposed. He added that he knew he was being watched and followed all the time. In addition, he told the court that two attempts were made to assassinate him and his briefcase was stolen in “sinister” circumstances. He disclosed that the stolen briefcase contained his diary as well as laptop with his personal evidence and notes about aspects of his work, including meetings and exchanges with Mr. Ibori.
He told the UK court that he held Mr. Okiro unreservedly responsible for what happened to him, adding that the former IGP ran a cesspit of corruption. When asked by a prosecutor whether Mr. Okiro had any ties to Mr. Ibori, the former EFCC chairman answered in the affirmative. He said, “They are very, very close personal friends and Ibori recommended him for the post.”
The confiscation hearing continues on Monday. So Ibori recommended Okiro too. Na wah oh! Seems the Yar"Adua regime was the worst we ever had. Letting Ibori run the country, bribing the Supreme Court judges, etc! |

Atleast Shehu has confirmed by the above statement that the fierce opposition to GEJ from certain elements from the north is not because GEJ is marginalising the north or any part of the country, whether in terms of appointments or project execution.
