PapiWata: Reporting at this very early stage of a possible major disease outbreak that the battle has been won, is premature at best, and could hold up to ridicule the medical body responsible for this very optimistic proclamation that implies NO other carriers of the Ebola virus besides the documented one, could possibly have entered Nigeria by any route over the past few weeks. You know, that's what I was thinking. It is a very Nigerian thing for government officials to go thumping their chests and blowing their trumpets about achievements when problems are festering in some corner just waiting to break out. |
ratiken: When I read comments from here, I seem not to understand why some folks are quick to acknowledge and believe news from the propaganda stables of Bokoharam but will always doubt statements from the defence headquarters. Are they really for a win against this insurgency I always ask?The BBC reported a statement made by Col Didier something, a Cameroonian army spokesman; it then reported a statement by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters. Meanwhile, before reporting the Cameroon statement, it reached out to Gen Olukolade, Nigeria's defence spokesman, who told them he would respond later. So how has the BBC acted unprofessionally? Do you people know anything about journalism? |
OrlandoOwoh: Rubbi.sh! How about Jonathan's media, NTA and FRCN that tried to "convince" us that there were no missing girls when foreign said there were? Following Jonathan's admission, there is no day NTA does not say girls are missing.FRCN did not say no girls were missing. FRCN is objective for a government-owned outlet. NTA is another matter. |
mu2sa2: Op, playing the ostrich with boko haram is what led us to the present situation. Fg officials told us before that boko haram had been defeated. Lies cannot wish away boko haram. That's right. The government has told its share of lies. We should be able to believe our government but we can't. |
whatlyf: on the contrary, I won't say the media has been totally "compromised" but our Journalists are acting unprofessionally. They know any news on BH sell hence they publish whatever jargons on the Front Page citing annonymous source. The investigative journalism is not there. Some media houses wll publish articles frm the comfort of their parlors without having on the spot assessment or hearing from a reputable source. Personally, I give the military the benefit of doubt though I'm disappointed with the slow pace of progressThank you. |
Yea, that's right. There's an obsession about incestous sex in American eroticas. Have always wondered what its all about. And, yea, the only one I ever read was pure "twincest". |
lastpage: What a waste of "human resources"?Lol. You forgot Chukwumerije. Must be a coincidence though. Ngozi Braid is not that smart, though - just a pretty face. As for FM, well, I will always remember him as a smooth liar. |
Reptyle: Goodluck to Mr. Mba. I only hope the new man is as articulate as Mr. Mba and brings as much or even more finesse to the role.Mba was an articulate spin doctor, a liar. Not that he was even that good but luckily for him you didn't have tough journos around here to grill him. I bet he would have stuttered out of the studio if he faced a Stephen Sakur or Josephine Hazeley.. |
Anybody knows her full name? Didn't see it in the article. |
lastpage: * And even more troubling is that you did not take time to "read-up" on the origins of this devilish ISIS group!I have been hearing some people say this. Do you have any evidence or can you lay out your argument to back it up? |
idupaul: From what I see you have no idea of the Genesis of ISIS ,without that knowledge my comment won't make sense to U:::: Sorry its not my faultWhat is the Genesis of ISIS? |
pickabeau1: This was what I thought u meant tooDid it occur to you they might have no problem with polyginy and you have no basis to impose your personal standards on them and call them weird? |
MaziOmenuko: The number of battery-bars your phone will get will be directly proportional to the level of head-ache you will getNot necessarily - have some kids come over, go to the market, turn on your battery powered radio, anything. |
This should be on the front page - Seun, Mynd44 and co. |
Panter215: Guy the company Zmaap is a co-share of US and Canadian government. Check online. Note stories had it that the 1st US doctor that received this drug was already bleeding and very weak. (Read the CNN initial report). It was called a remarkable recovery but today, over 7 days later, they are still in isolation. I see nothing encouraging that should make us put all our hopes on this drug. We have to try all options. Lets test this nanosilver in a controlled form and I do not believe we do not have the labs in country to do this. He's coming out soon - I believe I heard something earlier today about reuniting with his family. The lady is said to be progressing - you have to be cleared of it totally before coming out of isolation. It takes time since it's not a Chris Oyakhilome cure. Zmapp is obviously not good enough - it hasn't been sufficiently tested. But I understand why people are prepared to risk it. Nothing there justifies dishing out nano. The Americans got the drugs quite early. They flew the stuff to Liberia before the patients were moved to USA. In any case, 2/3 is encouraging. You think Nigeria can test and carry out trials of pharmaceutical products? Oh, well. You also seem to think it can be done sharp sharp and deployed to Yaba. |
ElFenomeno1: Thank you.Lol. Someone actually said Lagos should have tested the drug before making this statement. The FG out to have begun the processes by now though. |
bigass: Nigerians are stupidd. Thats my take on this. How would a sane person say it's an APC thing. You guys have forgotten that people survive it and giving them might reduce their chances?Reading Nairaland one can't help wondering. |
duni04: I have a question for you. I read in the papers last week that one herbalist in ogun state has a cure for ebola. Do we get the consent of the Ebola patients to be treated by this babalawo in ogun state?Yes. Let's get their consent and give them salt and water too. |
Panter215: Guy, only 3 people are know to have used the Zmapp drug and 1 is dead now. The other 2 are in state we are not sure of since they are still in hospital, over 1 week after receiving that drug. Yet we all want to use it. Does that not make us guinea pigs. Only difference is that US is selling it. I do not advocate we try the Nano Silver un tested but were we have no choice, then we have to do something. Can FGN commission a test program for this nano silver.US is not SELLING nada - where did you people get that from? Liberia made its request to the company which agreed to give it out FREE after talking to FDA. Liberia made its request AFTER it was used on two Americans who were reported to be doing well. The death of the Spaniard came later but it changes nothing since even a kid can differentiate his case since the drug was given to him when the illness was advanced. I'm not in support of mass use of Zmapp at this stage but it makes more sense than Nano whose manufacturer we don't know just as we don't know whether it has been given to a monkey or not. |
proffemi: Wrong, very wrong. Zmapp has been tried, with very encouraging levels of success, on primates. That is very far along the animal testing stage. Do you have evidence of any such tests with Nano?Thank you. Tests ought to be on by now but no, FG wants to give the stuff to Nigerians. I'm sure they don't have the facilities for such tests but they can contract it out. |
Symphony007: Some people mumu no be small!! What concerns APC and PDP in matters of health? Or is that how partisan your brains have gotten? Zmapp has been tested on both monkeys and humans and has proved to work with side effects. Now you want the government to give this new drug that has neither been tested or has no success track record on nigerians? Do you know the side effects, you people are advocating nigerian ebola patients be used as lab rat, and when they are and there is catastrophic after effects even worse than ebola, who will help us? Who? We don't even know the name or company of this fictitious "nigerian scientist in diaspora" that sent the drug. Since we're so desperate as will try anything, why don't we get all our ebola patients into a lab and start injecting them with every chemical compound we can find. Who knows, one might work.Honestly there are times I just give up on Nigerians. A commissioner does the only sensible thing and refuses to use Nigerians for experiment and people are screaming APC! And these people vote in elections. Nigeria will remain a hole for a long time. |
thegoodjoehunt3: Map BioPharma have agreed to release their Experimental drug (ZMapp) to Africans, what has stopped our President and the Minister of Health from contacting Them for the Experimental drugs (Supporting them financially). This embarrassment with this Nano Silver issue shows the height of incompetency in our health Ministry.Thank you. But unfortunately, that is not the way things work here. In saner climes, the claims about the NSA memo if found to be true are enough to send Chukwu packing. Again our government fails us and puts the lives of everyone at risk. |
thegoodjoehunt3: Now, this is embarrassing.I tell ya. |
MissMeiya: It seems to treat everything EXCEPT Ebola...Lol. Noticed that too. |
babyosisi: After reading how they are treated in quarantine, how she no go try to escapeThat's an important point. But escaping and travelling hundreds of kilometers to mingle with friends and family doesn't seem wise or professional even under those circumstances. Bad governance seems to be our lot in Nigeria but we still have to make the best of things. |
IGBOSON1: What of the stupid one that defied Doctors orders, escaped, and ran to Enugu? You would have thought she should know better given all the medical training she's had!Yeah. I hope she survives but they should make sure they withdraw her license or, at least, suspend it for six months. She appears unfit to be a health worker. |
chino25: Hello young lady, my name is Chinonso Samuel Dike, but my friends call me Chuno. I'm 37 and I don't have a wife or girlfriend. Spare me of my misery and take my virginity. Pleaseeeee!Lwkmd |
Obiagelli: i will give up on nigerian politics if this guy goes to the pdp.It will be sad. And poorly thought out. The APC and the PDP may be two sides of a bad coin but when it comes to rejecting candidates with some track record or credibility, the PDP takes the cup. Particularly in recent times, that party normally reaches into the gutters to pick its candidates. Anambra, Ekiti, then Osun -sometimes you wonder if Jonathan and his advisers are out to destroy the PDP. |
TOYNEX: returning in the evening after d days work and being asked "are u back"?He's not dumb - just trying to chat. If you think he's dumb, well. . . |
defendedvictim: dat kind conversation. d funniest part wz dat I said, 'yes its me'He didn't expect you to answer - that particular question, I mean. (Google "rhetorical question".) He expected you to say something else to continue the conversation. |
Ishilove: Most of the so-called dumb questions I've seen in this thread are not dumb, but simply rhetorical questions, that is, questions that are asked for the sake of emphasis, and not to get an answer. You guys should note the difference.Good to see a sensible post. People don't even use their heads anymore. At this rate you can't ask these guys "How are you?" |

a)following proper protocol, such tests would take months (my opinion; I'm not really an expert in this area) (b) there is NO lab in Nigeria that can carry out such tests.
