Mobilia:Nice one, yes Jesus loves all no matter who you are. Like where I read some days ago in Hebrew 3 : 1, Jesus is our Apostle and High Priest, who is compassionate to all, that is why he came in human form to pass through what human beings experience as recorded in Hebrew 4 : 14 & 15. May we not take for granted the grace of God that has appeared to all for salvation , amen. |
Nice thread, I pray it will not be abused and derailed. |
Mobilia:You are knowledgeable in almost every topic in this section. I pray you will be able to put into practice what you have learnt, learning and will learn. Wishing you well and happy new year. |
CanineOfJackal:Yes you can Luke 18 : 1 And He spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint. The question now is what type of prayer? Such a person can only pray a prayer of repentance. May God help us. |
Be hopeful sis, help will come your way in Jesus name. |

[quote author=dokie post=74781450]Remembering Buhari makes me sick to my tummy. I wish I could forget he existed. Hmmm |
sholatech:I hope the electorates will react to it during the forthcoming elections. Lalasticlala, have you collected your pvc? |
In August 2015, when I first publicly voiced out my disapproval of what I called the embarrassingly undisguised Arewacentricity of Buhari’s appointments, a few people, mostly southerners, asked why I was bothered since I'm a northern Muslim who is “favored” by such appointments—“favored,” that is, on the emotional and symbolic plane. I was—and still am—bothered for at least four reasons. One, I criticized similar such parochial appointments by previous presidents from the South. It would be hypocritical to look the other way because I'm now “favored” by such appointments. (Yes, I have more friends and acquaintances in powerful positions in this government than I’ve ever had since 1999). Two, Buhari came to power on the promise of “change,” on the promise of doing things differently. Three, people from my region and religion won’t always be in power. I want to be able to stand on a firm moral pedestal when I criticize future presidents who replicate Buhari’s (and previous presidents’) provincialism. Four, and most important, I am personally embarrassed by Buhari’s insularity—and every progressive northerner should be. It’s the sort of embarrassment you feel when your best friend who thinks highly of your mother visits you in your home and your mother, during a family dinner, gives you a considerably bigger food portion size and choicer pieces of meat than your friend. You feel like screaming: “Mom, I know you love me, but you’re embarrassing me by showing overt preferential treatment to me in the presence of my friend.” That’s precisely how the appointment of yet another northern Muslim Inspector General of Police has made me feel. Can’t Buhari even pretend for a moment and pleasantly disappoint his critics by appointing someone from the South as IGP? A northern Muslim DSS boss was fired by VP Osinbajo and the most senior office after him, who turned out to be a southern Christian, was asked to replace him. Instead of confirming his appointment, Buhari, upon his return from London, brought another old northern Muslim from retirement (yes, he was tired, retired, and enjoying the reticence of retirement) and made him the DSS boss without ever interviewing him for the job! Buhari’s self-defense for his provincial appointments is that he needs to appoint only people he can trust. If after working for more than two decades in the Nigerian military, far and away Nigeria’s most ecumenical institution, he can’t trust anyone outside his cultural, regional, and religious comfort zone, HE IS the problem, not the people he distrusts. By the way, why does he hanker after the votes of people he doesn’t and can’t trust but whines about getting “only 5 percent” from them when they don’t vote for him? That’s unreasonable. You don't trust a people to appoint them to "sensitive positions"? Then don't ask for their votes--and don't whine when they don't vote for you. Farooq Kperogi My Take February is around the corner let the electorates do the needful. |

SWIFT AND SHARP by Moses Oludele Idowu The Obafemi Awolowo University sex - for - grade teacher, Professor Richard Akindele has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment by an Osogbo Court. But he will most likely spend 2 years since the sentences run concurrently. The presiding judge, a woman, Justice Onyetenu refused plea bargain or the defense plea to temper justice with mercy since the culprit is a first offender. So barring a pardon by the state, our professor of accountancy ( or is it accounting) will have to account for his deeds in the cell for the next 2 years. His Samsung X3 phone is also forfeited to the Federal Government. His career now ruined forever. His knowledge or expertise, no one would require for the rest of his life. No university would probably accept him after his sentence. This is not all. The family will carry this stigma for a long time. I particularly sympathise with the wife and the children, they will carry this reproach for the rest of their lives, for which they knew nothing. Richard Akindele is also a Venerable of the Anglican Church, I am told. I have heard even from ministers that sexual sins are rampant in certain sections of the Anglican church. It used to be cultism but God raised a man, his name is Adetiloye, who fought that scourge completely and totally. Now, we need another Adetiloye who will fight immorality in this church. I am troubled by these developments and the negative reactions it will generate. But this is not why I am writing today. Why I am writing is the nature and discriminatory nature of justice in Nigeria. Why the wheel of justice seems to roll differently and with different speeds for different people from different social classes. It s not justice that bothers me. It is the colour of justice in Nigeria that troubles me. My question this morning to this nation is: why is it always quick and easy to dispense justice against the poor, the socially disempowered but hard to get justice against the rich and the politically- connected? Akindele was accused this year, investigated, charged and tried and the trial concluded - all within one solitary year. Swift, smart and sharp. No waste of time. No adjournment. No interference. No gimmicks. People say the wheel of justice runs slowly. It is not true. It only runs slowly when you are poor and not socially connected. If you are a poor man better be careful. Nigeria' s justice system works and works efficiently when you are poor. And a lecturer is poor in this consideration. In Nigeria, justice is not only dispensed it is done with social background factored into the question. Salisu Buhari forged his certificate to become Speaker. He only had to resign and given soft landing. Evan Enwerem did the same thing, he only had to go home. Iyabo Obasanjo was accused of collecting 10 million naira as senator for a course she never attended and of promoting a dubious company to secure contract. She only slept one night n a police station and that was the end. What happened to Siemens case? What of Haliburton? Malabu nko? Where is the Grass cutter, who once worked for Buhari? What of Oke and what happened to the investigation about DSS and the millions of dollars? How many of our officials have certificates as they claimed? One gubernatorial candidate of APC is already been accused in Ogun State. But nothing will happen to him. This is Nigeria. Two nations, separate and unequal within one physical frame. That is why I blame Richard Akindele. He should have known the Nigerian justice system is harsh, very harsh and effective when it comes to the poor, the politically disempowered and the socially disinherited. Akindele should have remembered George Orwell's Animal Farm - " All animals are equal but some are more equal than others". A senator was caught on video making love to two women. He did not deny it. He is still a senator today. Isn't it a crime to corrupt public morality? I know in US, it is a crime for public officers. Another governor was caught on video receiving bribe. He quickly rushed to court to stop the House from investigating him. If you are innocent why are you afraid of an investigation? This is the man who has been embraced by our see- no- evil, hear - no- evil "man of integrity" who dwells in Aso Rock. A woman under whose watch hundreds of millions of shareholders fund disappeared is now heading one of the DISCOS... The only crime in Nigeria, the real crime is to be poor. Only the poor is harassed by the police, handcuffed and paraded even before trial and investigation. The rich is invited to come or report at his own convenience by our Colonial- trained police. Once you don't have money, you are in trouble in Nigeria. You are at the mercy of God. Even from in the Church. That is why we need a genuine revival, a religious awakening. Or let us have the opposite number revolution. As I have shown for years in my writing and lectures history shows only two methods: either revival or revolution. Britain and France are history's best examples. Nigerians are crying that there is no choice between APC & PDP having tried the two and failed. Should we go back again to PDP? No, you don't have to go back and you don't have to continue with APC. There is another option that hasn't been tried: REVOLUTION. Tunji Braithwaite recommended it. Nwabueze too has recommended it. I am also now recommending it. It will at least be better than one man claiming to be richer than a whole state, a man whose only job is political patronage system. Another in a northern State is purporting to pay the salary of three local governments when the state that had been wrecked cannot do it, from years of profit from looting. What is the difference between APC and PDP? One thing about Nigeria is we segment crimes. We categorize crimes - bad, not too bad, acceptable, etc. No society is built on such flimsy foundations. To the children and especially the wife of Professor Akindele I send this word of courage: Cheer up, this storm too shall pass. Live your life and worship your God. You are not the sinner, and you have nothing to be ashamed of. He too will learn his lessons, from this. For those of our members on this platform, lecturers of OAU, kindly pass this message to the wife and children, on my behalf. |
If this is done in all sincerity, then the government should build on it to entrench peace in the state. |
SweetBuns:Why don't you accompany him nah? Merry Christmas to you. |
Topic : The reason for the season Text : Daniel 9 : 6 Introduction It is time again to celebrate another day commemorating the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, tagged Christmas, though not every Christian denomination believe in the celebration, but to say the truth, whether all Christians denominations agreed to it or not,it really worths celebrating. No wonder it has become the most celebrated festival in the whole world. In the course of celebrating this festival are always put in place by various organisations, churches, families not excluding varoou individual. It is unfortunate that many of the organisations such as radio stations are using the season for their own personal gain, thus relegating the real reason for the celebration. Though it is not bad for to make profit from ones business, but the main reason of the celebration must not be defeated because of mundane gain. For a quick reminder, after man lost that golden opportunity of having an intimate and uninterrupted relationship with God in the garden of Eden, God has planneed out a a way to bring back such lost relationship between HIM and man. This HE did by sending HIS only begotten son and offered Him as a sacrificial lamb in order to reconcil man back to HIMSELF. I think that the birth of this only begotten son of God is worths celebrating even when the actual date is not known. What is the season? It is a season of love and sacrificial giving as seen in what the almighty God did to mankind. The love here is not in the context of the world's definition of love, but according to the definition given to it as stated in 1 Cor 13. Reason for the season As started in the introductory part of this study, the reason for the season is basic to reconcil man back to God, to give life to the lifeless, and to bring light to the dark of the world. John 1 : 4 & 5 It is disheartening these days that many have been using the season for their own selfish interest. I could remember when I was much younger, during my secondary school days, one of my older neighbours did send me to his girlfriend then in preparation for the cross over night to the Christmas day. This neighbour of mine then could send me like more than five times to his girlfriend all in a bid to make sure she didn't disappoint him to the much awaited time. What a way to celebrate this unique day!.... It is unfortunate that instead of reflecting reason behind the celebration, it has turned to a day when many ladies will get unwanted pregnancies, thus relegating the reason for the season. This and many more atrocities are what some use thus period to do. May God have mercy on us, amen. Brethren, though this season calls for huge celebration for what God has done and still doing in our lives, but at the same time calls for sober reflection. It is a time one should sincerely ask him/her self question like "are mine really and truly connected to God considering my ways of life"? Brethren as we are celebrating this Christmas, let's do so with the assurance of our sure relationship with God. Let brotherly and sisterly love continues towards all people especially to those in the household of faith. Having opportunity to met those in dare needs, don't let us hesitate in making such happy, who knows, you might be using that mean in winning souls to the Kingdom of God. Remember as the day passes by, the world is gradually coming to an end, we must prepare for eternity any time any day and not be carried away in the euphoria of the celebration. A Kingdom where Jesus Christ reigns as King forever is our heritage. I pray that the grace to make it into the Kingdom of God at the end of everything here on earth shall be released unto us so that our celebrations will not be in vain in Jesus mighty name, amen. Merry Christmas and Happy new year in advance Shalom. Changing Marriage Mindsets. Are you mature enough for marriage? Some people have no business getting married because they are not mature enough for marriage. Maturity is not only about age, you need to be emotionally matured in your relationship and marriage. So how do you know you're matured in your marriage? 1. Selfishness. Your marriage is not about you. It's about US. There's no room for selfishness in your marriage. There's no "me,me, me and me". You need to think and decide not only for yourself but for your spouse too. Maturity means making the right decisions and working on goals meant to benefit not only you, but also your spouse. 2. Respect, Trust and Honesty. Respect your spouse. Don't malign your spouse to your family members, friends and colleagues at work. Trust your spouse. Trust their decision making process. Don't cheat on your spouse as that's the quickest way to to break their trust for you. Be honest in all your dealings with your spouse. Tell the truth always. 3. Accept your spouse for who they are. It’s important to recognize that the person you are in love with and married to, is not perfect. And it’s beautiful if, despite these imperfections, you still have the eyes to see the best part of them. There's no perfect man or woman out there. 4. View issues from your spouse's point. You're not Mr Perfect or Mrs Perfect. You are not always right in your marriage. Never think that you’re the only one who knows how to make your marriage work. You’re not always right and you can’t have the final say in everything. Being in a healthy relationship means having the wisdom to understand and see things from both perspectives, not only yours. 5. Always be patient and always forgive. There are moments when you will get hurt, when you will feel that you’ve been betrayed or taken for granted. However, don’t let these get to you. Let patience give you strength and let forgiveness give you hope that everything is just a part of the process. 6. Your marriage is not Perfect. There are days when the love of your life will break your heart. There will be moments, too, when you make the wrong choices that can eventually hurt your relationship. It shows you're both human. Don't let your challenges break you as a couple or damage your marriage. Fight for your spouse and for your marriage. 7. Stop over thinking and overprocessing destructive thoughts. Don't spend your time and energy to accommodate negative and destructive thoughts that could potentially end your marriage. 8. Make your spouse a Priority. Be more sensitive to your spouse. Be a good listener. Take time to listen to your spouse. Admit your mistakes and learn from them. 9. Choose your words carefully with your spouse. Words are powerful and how you use them can either make another person smile or cry. Learn to choose what to say and what not to express. You have all the right to express how you feel, good or bad, but don’t use this freedom to intentionally hurt the person you love. Taiwo Adewumi. |
OkaiCorne:No we are under the new covenant which is Christ Jesus, and Jesus said in Matthew 5 : 17 that ....... “Think not that I am come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. Tithe or no tithe, in the epistles of Apostle Paul, we are admonished to give generously, not by force but willingly, even more than one tenth of what we have. |
CodeTemplar:Exactly that is my own understanding of that verse too |
