TravelRe: Man Stuck In A Vehicle After An Accident In Lagos (Photos) by july66: 12:10pm On Oct 10, 2016
Blackberrybabes:
It was a sad tale over the weekend in Lagos around Ijora Costain axis of the city when a commercial bus had a fatal accident while on full speed. The driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle and made a head-on collision with a huge with a rigged pole by the side of the road. This caused so much damage to the front of the vehicle and not less than three people were injured in the accident.

The most affected of the injured was a young guy who sat beside the driver. He was so unfortunate he got stuck in the wreckage of the vehicle. It took a very long time to get him out after much effort by concerned road users. Emergency lines were called several times and the response was the number was not reachable.

He was eventually taken off the wreckage by a team of vehicle towers that were called to the scene of the accident. an ambulance arrived, but not until the victim had been rescued and in a very critical condition.

He was later taken away in the ambulance for further treatment.

he was lucky. He would have died if the vehicle had cut fire considering how long it took to bring him out.
PoliticsRe: DSS To Arrest 8 More Judges, 7 Still In Custody-daily Trust by july66: 11:09am On Oct 10, 2016
HungerBAD:
Eight more senior judges are under investigation and will soon be arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) as part of its latest attempt to cleanse the judiciary of corruption, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.

Seven judges were earlier arrested in different states across the country between Friday night and Saturday morning over alleged corrupt practices.

A top official of the service told Daily Trust that the seven senior judges arrested were still in custody and would be arraigned in court any moment.

The judges in custody last night are: Inyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court, Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Kabir Auta of the Kano High Court, Mu’azu Pindiga of the Gombe High Court, Mohammed Tsamiya of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin and the Chief Judge of Enugu State Justice I. A. Umezulike.

The DSS said Saturday that it recovered over N93 million and $530,000 cash from three arrested judges. The source said the judges were allowed access to their families and were cooperating with the agency.

“We still respect them. They are not being treated like common criminals,” he said.

As part of the investigations, three registry staff from various courts were also invited for questioning, the source said.

He added that the corruption cases against the judges were disturbing and investigations were carried out with “facts and figures.”
He said the current clampdown on the judicial officers was based on intelligence, and not on the perception of ordinary Nigerians.
“We received petitions against these judges on cases they are handling.

The worst part of it is where they collected money. We knew the issue would be controversial even before we started,” he said, adding that the corruption in the judiciary was so enormous that some judges took money with both hands from litigants.

“A particular judge entered a departmental store and collected bribe from a go-between. He didn’t even bother to buy anything. He just came out with the money. That is how bad it has become,” he said.

He said Nigeria had lost so much money due to the compromising posture of most of the judges. Citing the corruption cases of Halliburton, Malabu and Siemens, the security chief said: “In the past four years, Nigeria lost multi-million dollars cases against foreigners because of the corruption in the judiciary. Nigeria lost $1.9billion in one swoop case.”

He said those organizations criticizing the current actions of the security outfit had the right to challenge its constitutionality or otherwise in court.
He said the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) which earlier condemned the DSS operation, “should have the courage to take us to court.”
He said the DSS intervened because it had the mandate to protect the internal security of the country.

“No any other agency is constitutionality mandated to handle the issues of subversion, sabotage and espionage apart from us,” he said.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) had earlier recommended the sack of justices Auta, Tsamiya and Umezulike for alleged corrupt activities. But the security chief said that was not enough, adding, “The NJC gave soft landing to the three judges. What happened to the proceeds of crime running into hundreds of millions?”

One funny thing about this country is that those who claim to be fighting corruption are not better off than those they are investigating. When they notice that no searchlight is on them they do a quicky & help themselves. The temptation of corruption is such that the present efforts may not reduce it. Rather the crooks will device more technical ways to cover their ills.
PoliticsRe: Ikimi In Secret Moves To Join APC, Sends Emissaries To Tinubu by july66: 10:46am On Oct 10, 2016
itsdumebi:
Following the defeat of the PDP in the September 28th Edo Governorship election, the former minister of foreign affairs and a supposed prominent leader in the PDP Chief Tom Ikimi has begun surreptitious attempts to return to the ruling APC.

Politics Nigeria gathered that Chief Ikimi told close circle of friends in Abuja that he was already reaching out to the APC leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he termed a reconcilatory meeting. Chief Ikimi, often hailed as the "Oduma" (lion) of Esanland is reported as pleading through his emissaries that Asiwaju should display the "nobility of forgiveness".

It will be recalled that both Ikimi and Asiwaju had a bitter feud after Ikimi failed to secure the chairmanship of the APC which he blamed on Asiwaju. This led to his exit from the party.

It was also revealed that Chief Ikimi has approached some close circles of Comrade-Governor Oshiomhole to initiate an urgent peace meeting. Chief Ikimi told his representatives that he has enough evidence to prove that the PDP lost the election.

Chief Ikimi is said to be very angry with Ize-Iyamu and State party chairman Dan Orbih over the disbursement of resources donated by some PDP governors for the election. He was quoted as saying "instead of Pastor and Dan to come up with explanation of what actually came and how and what was expended, they are trying to single me out for failure in Esanland, I will not be humiliated by these boys" he concludes.

Chief Ikimi is being blamed by Ize-Iyamu for the failure of the PDP to have a 'complete sweet' of Edo central senatorial zone.

The PDP won four of the five local government areas that makeup Edo central senatorial zone. Orhionmwon local government area in Edo South was the only win for the PDP outside Edo central , making it five while the Apc won thirteen of the eighteen local government areas of the state.

I thought Ikimi was a statesman. Esan man. He obviously cornered some of the money released to him & wants them to declare how much came instead of asking him how he disbursed what was given to him. What a shame. He is now ready to swallow the pride he exhibited when he withdrew his membership of APC. Dog swallowing his vomit.

It is because of issues like this that we accuse the government of being partial in the fight against corruption. If old cases are to be revisited, an independent EFCC should decide on that & not get briefs from the presidency. The EFCC boss was recommended for the appointment by the president & obviously gets briefs on who to go after or who to soft pedal on. For the future I think there should be a legislation on alternative ways to appoint heads of agencies like EFCC, ICPC, INEC etc like for instance letting their appointments be recommended by the Chief Justice of Nigeria who is not a politician. I listened to CNN last night when a commentator was referring to Africa as a place where dictators put their opponents in jail once they are in power. What is happening in Nigeria immediately comes to mind with the suspected lopsided trial of opposition elements. Imagine the issue of pressure being mounted on the president to soften the anti corruption war on his party members. Is the president the chairman of EFCC to warrant such pressure?

dainformant:
Early this morning, governor Nyesom Wike and his entourage mobilised to stop alleged attempt by men of the Department of State Security, DSS and the Police to abduct a Judge at his number 35/84 B residence, Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt. According to reports, the governor was allegedly manhandled by men of the DSS and the Police who came to whisk the judge away.

Read the press statement which has been released to that effect.

The illegal siege on Rivers State by Federal security agencies continued unabated during the early hours of Saturday as hundreds of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives and policemen attempted to illegally abduct a Federal High Court judge residing at Number 35 Forces Avenue in Port Harcourt

The illegal failed abduction was led by Mr Tosin Ajayi, Rivers State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr Francis Odesanya.

The operatives of DSS reportedly rough-handled Governor Wike, pushing him around and injuring his hand. A few of the operatives cocked their rifles and threatened to shoot the Governor.

They were irked by Governor Wike's arrival at the scene shortly after the failed abduction process began. It was learnt that Governor Wike received security information on the illegal moves, minutes after the operation started.

The security operatives blocked the entrance of the residence of the Federal High Court judge at about 1am on saturday morning, claiming that they were acting on orders from above. As they dragged Governor Wike, they insisted that they must be allowed to leave with the judge.

However, the commotion attracted passers by and journalists who thronged the vicinity to know why hundreds of security agents in several Patrol vans had been mobilised.

Upon the arrival of the national media, the Rivers State Director of the DSS, Mr Tosin Ajayi jumped into his vehicle and fled the scene.

However, addressng journalists, Rivers State Police Commissioner, Francis Odesanya said the two security agencies were at the scene because they received privileged information.

Odesanya claimed he was at the scene as a peace maker. He declined comments on why the Police joined the DSS to abduct a serving Federal High Court judge.

In an interview with journalists at the scene of the failed illegal abduction of a Federal High Court judge by the Police and DSS, Governor Wike said it will not be under his watch that security agencies wiĺl be allowed to entrench needless impunity.

He declared that their reckless action portends danger to the nation's democracy, noting that he is convinced that President Buhari is not aware of the level of impunity being perpetrated by Federal Securiy agencies.

Governor Wike stated that whatever the situation, the rule of law must prevail in a democratic setting.

He said if the security agencies had a lawful directive to implement, they must follow due process .

According to him: "Not under my watch wiĺl I allow this kind of impunity to take place. That is why we are here. I don't know which judge they were detailed to abduct. I didn't bother myself to know which judge. All I am interested in is that, at this level, it is not allowed.

"He is not a criminal and he is not an armed robber. If the person has committed an offence, invite him. It is only when he refuses to honour the invitation that you can adopt this commando style.

"The Commissioner of Police is here, the Director of DSS is here. Their operatives cocked their guns and threatened to shoot me. I have never seen that before. Again , this is to tell you what we are facing . We know that more will come. For us in this state, we shall continue to resist it."

Governor Wike added: "It doesn't matter what it will cost. When you talk about liberty, sacrifices must be made. We are not trying to stop an arrest. All we are saying is that things must be done decently and in line with the rule of law.

"Rivers State is under siege. For you to see a governor out at this time of the day, something is wrong. A siege is an understatement. If this type of thing happens next time, the people wiĺl resist it to the last".

The governor stressed: "They are trying to do something funny in this state, probably to declare a state of emergency.

EducationRe: SSANU, NASU Protest Against Vice-chancellor In FUTA by july66: 8:19am On Oct 07, 2016
dayoade2007:
A day after the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure was invited to
Ibadan quarters of the EFCC, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU and
the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU of the school staged a mighty protest within the school
premises.
The protest which started at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon had protesters chanting "Ole" and
lasted till half past three the same afternoon. The VC who was recently invited by the EFCC
over fraud and corruption allegations was accused by the Staff Unions of refusing to pay their
long-term allowances.
The Staff Unions requested the VC be removed with immediate effect and that the Federal
Government set up a panel to audit FUTA account.
The Staff Unions were heard saying "You can't be facing corruption charges and be ruling us.
We don't want another Saraki."
They went ahead to say "We're advising Prof. Gregory Adebiyi Daramola not to come to FUTA
from 4pm this evening. Nobody must go to office tomorrow. We must resume here [the front
of New Senate building, the VC's office]."
"We're not on strike, we're on protest. If you don't come and you're caught, you're on your
own. But if you come to work and join the protest, an injury to one is an injury to all" the
protesters said.
"It is our enemies who will not see tomorrow. They will have diabetes and the diabetes will kill
them. They will have cancer. They will die of hunger" fiercely it got as they rounded up.
Our correspondents were not allowed to go near the core of the protest as students were not
allowed. However, one of the protesters who does not want his name disclosed told us the
protest could go un-peacefully if they were provoked.
Rumours have it that since the emergence of the Vice-Chancellor, FUTA Staff members have
been deprived of some financial privileges as the VC trashed out autonomy of staff members
on funds and disregarded due process in issues of leadership sustainability.
The students on hearing the news, have continued to raise concerns on the possible
consequences. It will be noted that the sophomore admissions list that should have been
released is yet to be released. The students also hope it will be resolved soon, so it does not
affect the academic calendar.
As against the false news that Professor B.K. Alese was involved in the protest, the Dean is
presently out of school and could not have been found anywhere near the protest ground.

With this protest, the source of the petition is obvious. Many of the protesters are more corrupt that the man they are accusing if given same opportunity. This protest is "bad belle" protest. I read the story yesterday. The man is collecting his own allowance while depriving them of their own. But they do not have right to stop the man from coming to work just because he is facing allegation of corruption. Allegation is not conviction, neither has he been arranged. The hunger in the land & frustration is the reason for this upheaval.

I think if we must be truthful with ourselves for once, Buhari is very tribalistic. No two ways about it. What has happened to federal character commission. Are they afraid to speak out? I think the time has come for key appointments like CJN, head of INEC to be done through more neutral ways because in Nigeria they tend to strive to please the man who put them there.

If Sherrif calls this kind of meeting, you wont find up to 5 national Assembly members.

When I read the comment of folks concerning the Edo governorship election, we have a long way to go. People will rather perish than toll the path of truth. God help us.

people like you are not interested in the process as far as the result satisfy you. That is why Nigeria will remain a toddler for a long time.

The whole process is so funny. I learnt that all those who tried to record the voting exercise with their phones had the phones seized. This shouldn't be except there was something to hide. A party whose name didn't appear on the ballot paper & communities who didn't vote all had votes allocated to them to confirm the allegation the results were prepared before votes were cast. INEC should be ashamed. Nigerian factor has taken over INEC.

Shut up, are you even in Edo state?.
This is not shut up matter. Everyone is aware of what transpired. Wait till the court processes begin. I am sure even you will be ashamed being a Nigerian because of what people will testify about. My only pain though is that I would have preferred that court processes be concluded before swearing in to prevent a situation like that of prof Osunbor where he was governor for about 2years for a mandate that was manipulated in his favour as confirmed by the courts.
