He's not breaching the contract.

The contract says he will work for 5 years but if he terminates early he will pay the associated costs.

Termination is part of the contract and he has said he is ready to pay, so there's no breach.

@deeonebanging your employer is not obligated by law to provide you a reference - https://www.acas.org.uk/providing-a-job-reference.

All that they are obligated to do re references is to be true and fair if they do give one. So the best thing would be to soft-pedal and get the present employer to tell you how much you have to pay, which you can then pay and get the reference. Alternatively, you can let the prospective side know and ask them to allow an alternative.
I dont think there is any alternative o when it come to taking another empoyment as a sponsored skilled worker as his current employer has a big role to play in the process of changing sponsored jobs .
By law he can't bypass his current employer to take another sponsored employement elsewhere as UKVI cannot even grant him a new COS if his current employer doesnt cancel the current one .Since he still has a binding contract on his neck , he just have to find a way of settlling his contact with his current employer so that he can be gracefully released without any issue.
But come to think of it ,this naija employer wicked no be small sha ,5 years binding contract to work as dom carer ? impossicant embarassed embarassed i am yet to see any carer that can achieve that without breaking his/her back

Tinubu is a disgrace to yoruba race. He is the worst of us. A country that has Chimamanda Adichie, Okwonjo-Iweala, Akinwumi Adesina, etc. shouldn't have a Kleptomaniac drug baron like Tinubu in politics let alone becoming president.
In nigeria ,it is the worst of us that is leading the best of us .what a tragedy !

Same here o. Are you also using pay as you go? Would like to ask how you manage your electricity usage. I feel my consumption is kinda high as I spend an average of £9/£10 daily. Someone said it’s probably because the house is 100% electricity and no gas. Abeg anyone with useful info on minimising this should also give me hint biko
Do you know the kind tarrif system being used in your house ?usually for 100% electricity supply system , the tarrif system being put in place is the economy 7 dual rate system ( peak rate in day and off peak rate in the night) .

Elders, United Utilities don comot sleep from my eyes, abeg £584.08 for the period of 31.03.2023 to 31.03.2024 coupled with £299.91 that i am still trying to clear before 31.03.2023. eleyi o wa poju bayi. Isn't this too much ? How can i go about it ? Is too much ke. For ordinary water o. Any tweak to this thing ? Edakun o. When i called to complain, they said the bill is being charged on the size of the property. 2 bedroom apartment o with only me and my wife. I told them we're just 2 in the house. They said its not about the number of people living in the house, but the size of the property. I just weak. And i noticed one thing about these UK customer care services and this cuts across all services being rendered when you call them to complain about something, instead of them to solve that issue or give you a solution that would favour you, they would rather tell you their own reasons why you should pay the amount they're charging you and you have to pay. Next thing you go hear na say "What's your name for us to set up direct debit" shey you dey whine me ni, na because of direct debit i call ni abi una wan strangulate my life and pocket.
Oga stop complaining , £584.08 for the period of 31.03.2023 to 31.03.2024 is mere £48 per month not even up to half of working hours in a day.
That is the same reason why things are not working in nigeria ,everybody wants good life but dont want to be commited and responsible ,that is fraud of the highest order
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by jum33:
please is 32 kwh of energy consumption per day is normal or too high for a family of 5 living a 2 bedroom apartment as i pay an average of 270 pounds per month which is feel is too outrageous for electricity bill . (Mind you the apartment is solely electricty powered no gas )

Elders in the house. I have a question about council tax.

I thought the student council tax exemption covers the entire household for the duration of full-time studies or am I wrong?

I’ve heard from two prospective landlords now who are saying it only covers the student and that their partners are expected to pay council tax.

I remember getting a council tax bill of around £1200 in Nov/December but I called to tell them we applied for exemption. They requested we send a signed copy of the schools exemption letter which I did the next day and since then nothing.

Does the exemption cover the entire household or huh
Sure

This care work talk is really a thing for consideration.

I need advise actually

I and my wife both got admission to same school , while my wife is studying, i deferred mine ( Applied data science) to October

Currently about to start carework next month, no talk of sponsorship yet.

The goal is to be a data analyst/scientist starting from an entry level role, i have some certifications and projects completed but the jobs are not coming.
Applying on LinkedIn but only few calls back.

Should i go for studies after my wife completes hers or keep looking for that entry level role which i am not sure will come with visa sponsorship.
let me be blunt here ,Uk IT employer dont really care about your master in IT what what they want to see in your experience and track record in the field .
Focus on enrolling in IT bootcamps that can give your world class training ,capstones projects and working experience

Dear justwise, lexus430 and co. Please what's the process of switching from a healthcare visa to another healthcare visa? My brother is on a healthcare visa as a carer but recently got another sponsorship from a mental hospital as a support worker and wants to switch. Does he have to go through the application process again or just inform home office of the new COS thanks.
I think the most important cruz of the matter there is for your current employer to withdraw their current COS so that his new COS can be mapped to skiiled visa .The application will be a seamless one if the current employer is willing to release you easily like that

Just wanted to chip in with the carer vs psw visa debate.

You don’t have to exhaust the tenure of your visa in any situation you find yourself in.

5 years carer visa doesn’t mean you have to stay tied down for 5 years. You can keep applying for your ‘dream job’ or just any better job and change to skilled worker visa at anytime.

Some people have switched from a 5-year carer visa, without spending up to 6 months as caters.
Its doable but the stress and both the physical & mental exhaustion that come with everyday carer job will demand will make the whole switching journey one huge herculean task .Beside, a potential employer that will give a data analyst role job will employ u based on previous working Uk experience not based on master certificate and where will you get time for that data analyst working experience when your whole productive full time role has been taken by the carer job .Assume it's a part time role then it will be another ball game entirely .
I have been in similar situation before, so i m talking from practical first hand experience .

No way back, You should look for a part time data analyst role to keep building your skill/experience, then switch in future when you can.
I dont think he can see himself taking on a data analyst role and the prospect it will offers later if he can make such a decision of taking a carer job

Good Evening Ancestors! I'm asking on behalf of a friend
She is about to relocate to the UK on Dependant/spousal visa and she asked me some questions which I don't have answer to
1...She is a medical doctor with more than 5years experience in Nigeria but she is not willing to practice in the UK though she intend to have GMC registration but she prefers it is her last option. So, what long term job can she do in the UK? Any certications she can obtain?? Can she venture into IT or pharmaceuticals?? Note that her background in Nigeria is just medicine no other experience though she has Cambridge A levels certificate (GCE A LEVELS)
2...what is the difference between support worker, carer, healthcare assistants because she intends to get a job as soon as she lands so as to keep body and soul together. Oh she prefers the one without personal care
3...On jobs she can do, can it be remote/hybrid/night shift because she has twin toddlers in which they want to reduce childcare cost
Any pointers are welcome
She really want to change career but so confuse
She will be reading.
there is no health care assistant job that doesnt have come with some level of personal care

Boss am confused o. Is the shortage list not same with skilled worker list.

So are you saying there can be An employer that has license to sponsor even though such employer's niche is not in the listed list of shortage occupations?
so far such employer job is in the skilled worker list and has a license to sponsor ,then you are good to go .Shortage occupation list is a subset of skilled worker list .The advantage of having your job on the shortage occupation list that you will be able to acquired more points on the point based skilled worker visa application.

Does it mean those with permanent job that’s NOT on the shortage occupation list are wasting their time?
sorry for my error ,it is not actually not compulsory for the job to be on the shortage occupation list ,job being on the shortage occuaption help to build more point to get a skilled visa (it runs on point based system just like canada ).What is most important is for your employer to be willng to offer you sponsorshop in form of COS and your ability to gather points to meet the criteria .

For someone that was driving in Nigeria, like how many hours of driving lessons will the person need to pass driving test. Just an average.
Forget that you have been driving in nigeria ,just have it mind that you are starting afresh again cos it a totally different learning experience here ,this is the government recommendation for no of practice hours before taking the exams:
"The average learner needs 20 hours of practice to pass the driving test, in addition to 45 hours of driving lessons."

My dear brother/sister please I would advise to run away if you can. I rented a newly refurbished property with an underfloor electric heating in 2021. It was newly done so i was the first tenant.

On moving in and staying for sometime we realised the flat doesn’t really get warm. An engineer came in to investigate and realised teh heating coils hasnt been done appropriately under the floor. This is the major con with underfloor heating, if there’s an issue its a lot of work to get it fixed.

Now because of being unable to fix it the landlord bombarded our home with mobile heaters. This is where we suffered because it was all electric in the property.

To cut the long story short, the money we spent on bills in the flat was enough to relocate a loved one from nigeria to the uk loool.

Let me just state that my post does not negate the pros some other people mentioned. Its just that My family and I would never ever get an accommodation with electric heating.

Also note some electric heating flats are also some times slightly cheaper in London because the agents know wats up

Note also, i know a friend who uses gas underfloor heating. Its way better. I would go for gas underfloor it gets the house extremely warm. Its great
This is how electric heating system is made affordable
1.Ensure the heaters are the storage types
2. Your metering tarrif is dual type economy 7 or economy 10
3. Charge the storage heaters only during the low tarrif period usually the night and discharge during the day time.

Gurus in the house help my confusion please😂

As a student on a tier 4 visa you can decide to switch, get the CoS and start counting 5yrs towards ILR (permanent residence) OR you can decide to finish from the school, pay £2000 to get 2yrs Pgwp. Here is were my confusion lies omo

So let's say I decided to finish my school, get my 2yrs pgwp and luckily for me I got a job (permanent role)

1) will I still be needing CoS since I got a permanent job role?

2) will I start counting 5yrs for my ILR since I got a permanent job role or will have to apply for ILR immediately I got the permanent job role?
To start counting towards your 5 yrs for ILR ,the permanent job gotten must be on the shortage occupation list and the employer must be ready to sponsor you and a COS must issued for that
